His performance of We Are the Champions gets to me every time here. He is more tham likely already suffering the effects of AIDS at this point, although he wouldn't be diagnosed for another 2 years. 100,000+ people in the stadium and something like a billion people watching this live, and for 22 minutes Freddie Mercury ruled the world with Queen giving perhaps the greatest concert performance ever. What I love even more about it is the simplicity of what they were doing. They are dressed simply, there are no elaborate dances or pyrotechnics or anything like that. It is just an absolutely masterful performance. Loved your reaction!
Greatest Stage Performer of ALL TIME . Forget ELvis, the Beatles, Springstein, Madonna, Gaga,, Beyonce, Sheeran, Swift etc etc. This is the God of Musical Performers
@barrymitchell6444 sorry I still gotta give that to David Gilmour. Not only did he have all of those skills that Freddie had, but the man was a poet on the guitar as well. Pink Floyd was so ahead of their time with the complexity of sound engineering that they were using for their music to a point where it hasn't been matched since
Brian May said the acoustics were so bad onstage that they just couldn't hear one another. No earpieces, no autotune. But they had rehearsed the set extensively to get the timing right (a very strict schedule). That's how professional they were as a band - very tight. You can see them giving one another visual cues as they go through. Freddie brings his arm down to end the last song exactly as the red light comes on at the end of their allotted time. Perfect timing.
Interesting that you picked up Elvis Presley in Crazy Little Thing Called Love It was written in part as a tribute to Elvis, one of Freddie's musical heroes.
I've watched this performance 100 times, and it still brings me to tears. Freddie didn't have to do that given his condition, and yet himself and the boys rescued live aid. Bob Geldof was sweating before Queens' incredible contribution. We miss you Freddie ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Freddie had a serious throat infection and was told by his doctor not to perform on this day but I don't think Freddie could pass up having the whole world as his audience. After the performance someone asked him how he felt while singing and he said it was like gargling with thick shards of glass. Brian has said that they could not hear each other on stage and there was no sound check, so the fact that they were able to keep it together is amazing and perhaps a testament to them often performing in these types of large arenas. Also according to Brian they had a very exacting way of communicating on stage when they were unable to hear. Normally if Freddie has something going on and can't manage the highest notes, Roger fills them in. Unfortunately, as I said they couldn't hear each other on the stage. Thank you for reacting to this outstanding set at this concert.
Interesting what you say about them having a system. Because I do think they used it here. Freddie hit some good high B-flats in their opener, Bohemian Rhapsody (sorry - I'm a musician/music nerd) but in their last song, We Are The Champions, it seems that they wisely had planned on him maybe not being able to get that high. So in "no time for losers," Roger sings the original melody and Freddie harmonizes underneath. Then right after, much more subtly, "'cause we are the champions...." The words "cause" and "the" are both those high B-flats. Roger sings them. Freddie mimes them. It's actually a pretty brilliant sleight-of-hand. Freddie sings "no time for losers.... we are... champions." And no-one was the wiser, including me until years later.
I will concede that Freddie hit a nice high C (!) in the first chorus. ("We'll keep on FIGHT-ing to the end"), but I stand by my original point. And he ducked out of the high C in the 2nd chorus, entirely understandably as he wasn't feeling at his best.
People say thing's like 'had them in the palm of his hand'. This, is what it looks like folks. A crowd that weren't there to see them, most were probably there to see all the other acts. Didn't matter too a showman like Freddie or a band like Queen... they smashed it out the park. Haven't heard anyone, ever, say they weren't the best act on stage that day... either side of the pond.
If you listen closely when Freddie starts singing the opening to Bohemian Rhapsody, you can hear the audience singing along. Yes, the song Crazy Little Thing Called Love was written by Freddie as a tribute to Elvis Presley.
I just canNOT get enough of them! I've watched this probably over 1,500 times and STILL, I tear up when I realize I know something that Freddie doesn't know yet. I know he has AIDS (VIV now but becomes AIDS soon) and at this point in his life, he didn't know. I also know that he will suffer unbelievable pain, unbelievable devastation, and lose most of his foot. He didn't know that either.
Thank you Emma…..not many people notice the signal he gives to the band…clicking his fingers at the side of his head at…”I gotta be cool, relax”….there was some problem with the sound, I think, and Freddie, ever the professional was ensuring that everything was ok🤩

There is 2 singer that no one can come close to. Freddie Mercury and Patsy Cline. Take away auto tune. No one can touch them. Nov 25 1991. Very sad day.
After Freddie died they held a tribute show for him. I think you should check out the band Extreme's performance at that show. They do a medley of different Queen songs and do a killer job. Many think they stole the show. Other bands on that show were the likes of Metallica, Guns n Roses , Def Leppard, Elton John, David Bowie and George Michael.
Roger Taylor, the drummer has a four octave voice as well as Freddie and he can go higher. Great musical voices. This is a master class of a live performance. Best live rock performance in history.
Freddie Mercury was the Real Deal. He wrote his own songs, he can sing, play the guitar, play the piano, crowd control at 1 million. All four members have attended universities: Mercury had a degree in graphic design and illustration; May has a degree in physics and has done graduate work in astronomy; Taylor has a degree in biology; Deacon earned a degree in electronics with first-class honors. Even dead Freddie STILL has not peaked. Freddie died back in 1991... 32 YEARS after he went to Eternity he is still watched. 78,000 people following Freddie's direction. Freddie was the Original Extrovert. When Freddie went to Eternity he left a hole in the fandom. Somehow the fans got it in their heads if enough people sang Bohemian that Freddie would return ; this is one attempt : ua-cam.com/video/cZnBNuqqz5g/v-deo.html
This is the most INCREDIBLE performance by Freddie and the entire band. They stole the show. He was sick and warned by his doctor not to sing. Love that you enjoyed it. ❤
I was at that concert I was 16 and went with my sister who was a big Queen fan. We came over from Ireland by ferry the day before. Wandered around London for a couple of hours then caught the bus to the ferry next morning. Don't think we slept for three days.
For us oldies there is a certain British charm in knowing this was (in a way that would not be thought of today) introduced by two top comedians in the UK. And then we have what is almost a comeback performance by Queen. They were not on the same level as the 1970s (where their best-loved songs are rewarded here) but it did lead - as with many groups on show at Live Aid - to a kind of rediscovery. The London end of this event also included the likes of The Who and David Bowie. So they had something to prove.
Freddy Mercury had a throat infection in this performance, doctors advised him not to perform. To be honest I think it added to the hair raising, goosebumps of a performance from the Legend that was and is Freddy mercury and not to forget Queen as a whole. 4 members in perfect sync.
Thanks, Emma - Freddie was amazing, but so was the entire band... check out Brian on guitar & vocals, Roger on drums & high-register backing vocals, John Deacon on bass... just one of the best musical collaborations evah! appreciate your reaction... and look forward to more...

Great seeing your reaction; you can't begin to imagine what the atmosphere was like there on that day, if only you were 40 years older...
Pure Queen ❤ Pure Freddie Mercury ❤
I feel sorry for David Bowie who had to follow after this ultimate set from Queen
He definitely fought till the end ❤
This concert was also sent out live via satellite to approximately 1.8 BILLION people!!
There was an encore Is This The World We Created, there is a great rendition of it 1986 at 28:15 Wembley . The Luve Aid one is often blocked
Yes, Queen don't own the copyright for it, which is why it gets blocked.
Every time I see Emma's eyes light up and she starts her head bob, my heart begins to melt...
What a total master of his craft 😊
40 years ago, and he knew...Music isn't videos.
Glad you are back....
Me too😘❤️🙏
don't stop me now, i'm still waiting😊
