To be fair, they always let the song play in full. They have a pre-show mix tape that plays in its entirety before the band comes out. Bohemian Rhapsody has been on that mix for decades. Blitzkrieg Bop too.
Worth remembering this ISN'T a crowd that have come to see Queen. This is what all Brits can do. and no we couldn't sing the whole national anthem like this nor would we want to.
People say Michael Jackson was the greatest performer of all time....I don't see tens of thousands of people singing any of his songs word for word in unison.
I would suggest the ovation was for the music, that fantastic song and their parents that gave them all an appreciation of what they weren't alive to experience.
I was in the crowd on this day. Green Day started to play it for when they were planning to walk on the stage. But, they didn't come out until it was finished because of what happened 😊
One of the things I love so much about this video is not just that it was canned music the crowd was singing to, and not just that they were singing all in unison, but that they were singing with so much passion! You could hear the emotion in the collective crowd voice, which isn't an easy thing to accomplish because usually the more voices that join in the more neutral the vocals end up being as people blend together. But here, everyone was feeling it to such a degree that it could clearly be heard, and that just by itself is so beautiful. Thank you guys for reacting to this and giving us your insights into it.
@@sarablack2547 That was the first time... That many people singing and you can still understand every word. This is not a few people singing and others joining in randomly. That is part of the beauty

I really love concerts with audiences that are really engaged and participating in the show. That’s one of the things that makes me love Depeche Mode so much, Dave seems like he was practically born to be on stage and holds the audience in the palm of his hand the entire time. And of course there are lots of specific things that are done with certain songs at every show, like the side to side waving hands toward the end of Never Let Me Down Again. I FINALLY crossed one thing off my bucket list last year when I got to see them live for the first time ever; there’s always been something every time they’ve toured that’s kept me from going, especially since it also requires an out-of-state trip: I’m in Central Arkansas and the nearest city they regularly play is Dallas, five hours away. I actually saw them in San Antonio though, at the very beginning of the tour: at that point, they hadn’t announced all their concert dates and although I knew it was inevitable they would end up coming to Dallas, (which they did), it would be toward the end of the tour (which it was) and who knows what all could go wrong before then, causing them to have to cancel.
80,000 people ( originally listed as 65,000) listening to canned music waiting for green day concert to start, the Bohemian Rhapsody came on for the waiting crowd. Everyone sang together perfectly. Just another song on a recording but it was pure love and memory. Other Green Day concerts with smaller numbers repeated many times.
I was there it was amazing, green day actually waited until we had sang it all and by the end so many people were hugging and had tears, it was beautiful. All our school assemblies really were for a reason ❤❤
This song is 49 years old now I remember back in 1975 when it first came out. My children grew up listening to Queen, now my grandchildren are growing up listening to Queen. People from all around the world, that don't even speak English can sing this song perfectly. In a hundred years people will still be singing Bohemian Rhapsody and remember Freddie Mercury and the incredible gift of music he left behind . The world was a better place with him in it 👑
It is a duty of a good parents to enlighten our kids and educate them, music is definitely on the agenda. All my kids know this song and the words... they are in their thirties, fourties now. When out with my two youngest we stopped for a meal in a pub. My daughters were 5 and 11, asked to pick a song to sing they decided on 'Six days a week'... this was in the late 90's. It made me very proud!!!
British crowds are crazy. They do out of the box things. A crowd for a Madness concert made so much noise/commotion that it registered as an earthquake x
That's not the sun peeking out through the clouds in the back. That's Freddy shining his light down on them while watching with pride and a tear in his eye.
I'm 71 and one of my biggest regrets is never seeing Freddie, Brian, John and Roger perform live. I watched Live Aid on tv and followed everything I could but, like Jess said, having technology that allows EVERY future generation to hear and see them will keep them all alive forever.
Bohemian Rhapsody is almost an alternative National Anthem throughout the UK. Many "youngsters" who were not even born when Queen were performing can sing every line of the song flawlessly, and frequently do at many major events. All it essentially takes is for the music to start in the UK and you will often get one or two people, to a huge crowd at a concert or sporting venue singing the whole song with gusto and immense pride. Freddy is beloved, and Queen are a national treasure. You should look for other venues where the crowd sings along to Bohemian Rhapsody. I'm sure you will find quite a few :) Great reaction, and thank you!!
You guys have to watch Queens' whole set at Live Aid. At one point, Freddy takes complete control of the entire crowd. It feels a lot like this, but Freddy is present. ❤️
I see the crosses being bathed in golden sunlight and the light also soaking the crowd, I can also imagine Freddie turning to the others in Heaven and saying "Look darlings...... this is my legacy".
The cheering at the end is the joy of the amazing shared experience with strangers and friends. Happens a lot after we sing together but maybe it’s just a British thing. In no way were they cheering themselves.
In the UK it is a rule that every one knows every word of Bohemian Rhapsody no matter what your age (IT'S THE LAW). Unborn babies Learn the song in the womb and as we know the 1st word babies say is "MAMA" proving the fact they learn the song in the womb..
Glad you pointed out the angle with the sky, it almost looks like Freddie is there in spirit as well as how they are singing the instrumentals. Gotta love it!
Yeah, I was there and it was absolutely amazing. It was just before Green Day came on, they started playing BR and everyone sang along. Happy New Year to you
I've looked at this video a few times and what you said about the clouds Jess, Whilst they're all singing the sun comes through the clouds, the cloud shapes and the rays of the sun. Like you say its just like Freddie opens a door in heaven and is sat listening! Lovely video. RIP Freddie. Miss him, his music and just his presence!. X
No artist and band can make thousands of people sing their song synchronously without them even being there, and that's why QUEEN IS A LEGEND. I bet after 100 years, they'd still be known.

Freddie was there loving that. So was my daughter. She often flies to London or New York, Chicago, once Detroit and Canada to see her favourite musicians from Australia. She may have caught my love of Freddie too and she always loved Green Day.
That was one of the best concerts i've ever been to. I was right at the front of that crowd and the atmosphere was incredible! So glad Green Day filmed it and put it online.
When Freddie left us in '91 he left a hole in the Fandom. Somehow they got it in their heads that if enough people sang Bohemian Rhapsody that Freddie will return to us.
Freddie is gone, but his music will continue to be heard in every corner of the world. He is not with us, but he will not be lost in our thoughts and hearts. Because TRUE LEGEND IS IMMORTAL❤👑👑👑👑❤
I can imagine, that Freddy Mercury is very proud. Proud of strange people singing together. That is, what should be. Just singing together, helping each other. Working on the problem together, not alone. I was on 2 queen's concert. It was amazing. Anyway, thank you. It's always fun to see your videos.
I have seen a video, several years ago, if a 3 year old girl in the car singing every word and even head-banging at the right time. It was so awesome to see the youngest of us appreciate the best of the best QUEEN!
The fact that everyone singing and enjoying Freddie and Queens music was amazing. But, for Green Day to realise and engage their audience in another artists song before their set, was inspirational. Paying homage to an inspirational band like that just shows their integrity in the industry.
this used to happen at a lot of the festivals i used to go to back in the early 2000s. greenday doing the circuit then always had a good preset playlist.. can you imagine how pumped they will have been waiting in the wings knowing the crowd are this up for it, incredible... ive watched this many times and it never fails to make the hairs on the neck stand on end and a tear to my eye. on another note, my wife is italian, so our son calls her mamma, and each time he says it my brain automatically says 'ooo OOO oooo' like the line in this song, Hes 8 now and it still happens nearly every time.... the OG fans of greenday would have had parents listening to Queen a lot, the lyrics are fed intravenously through the long road trips with only a double cassette for company lol
I've seen this so many times and never tire of it, just brilliant. As others have said we learn this from an early age in the UK, my dad was a huge Queen fan. If you look at the cloud, top left at the beginning, it kind of looks like Freddie looking down at everyone.
Every single week without fail there was at least one assembly where either the whole school (if it was small enough as my Primary School was) or a year group grade (once we started Secondary School at 11) got together for announcements. We would sing hymns or other non-religious songs like 'Over The Rainbow' or 'You Are My Sunshine' together and we all learnt how to seamlessly create a choir out of thin air because of it. Many groups say British crowds just hit different because of it. There's a video from this same performance of the crowd singing Boulevard of Broken Dreams so loudly that Billie Joe didn't even pretend to try and sing after the first few lines and was openly crying.
Freddie and Queen are still such big stars and influence the UK we Love them and miss Freddie so much, I’d like to think this would happen in other countries but not at all surprised, it was always going to happen here 🙏🏽 God bless you Freddie we love and miss you so much .
I saw Queen live in 1978 at Glasgow Apollo. Amazing. Seeing Freddie coming on stage on the shoulders of a huge body builder who was dressed as Superman is an image I'll never forget. And the huge gong at the back of the stage for the end of Bohrap and nothing else - priceless.
I love how you can barely hear the intro over the crowd noise yet by the start of the fourth line a collective decision has been made that yes, we are going to sing this now.
Hi 👋🏼 I’m from the UK and I was in the crowd. 80k of us singing. This was while we’re waiting for Green Day to come on stage as the main act. I was right at the front of the crowd
Beautiful thanks for sharing it, made me well up it was a beautiful moment in time that will be remembered for ever. Your right Jess, Freddie was there
We were at a Paramore Concert in Manchester and when it has finished they started playing songs as everyone left the building and Whitney Houston's I want to dance with somebody came on and everyone started singing as we were filing out. Everyone all the way through.
I was in the crowd for this, i remember vividly sipping a beer, the song came on and i just instinctively started singing... I never realised at the time that EVERYBODY was singing until i stumbled upon this video a year later. Still sends shivers down my spine,
The band were literally waiting in the wings to come on, but when they heard what was happening, they just let it happen, all credit to them for that.
I didn't know that. That's excellent.
To be fair, they always let the song play in full. They have a pre-show mix tape that plays in its entirety before the band comes out. Bohemian Rhapsody has been on that mix for decades. Blitzkrieg Bop too.

In the UK you learn to say mama, dada then all the lyrics to Bohemian Rhapsody. It's the law.
Absolutely 😂
😂
Can confirm as a Brit. I don’t recall learning the words to Bohemian Rhapsody I just knew them.
Fun fact - In UK... After 9 weeks at number one... It was 'Mamma Mia' by Abba that knocked Bohemian Rhapsody off the top spot.
It's part of our birthright
Well...Freddie did say, “I don’t want to be a rockstar...I want to be a legend”.......he got his wish🤩

I was in the crowd for this. No coordinating, no words on the screens. One of the highlights of the gig
sooooo lucky. i am sooooooo jealous.
Freddie and Queen stole the show again without even being there. Unbelievable.
Freddie was once asked what his favourite instrument was. He replied:
"Oh the audience darling!"
Yep Freddie was right there. 😥
And he played the audience like no one else could.
Freddie looking down at the audience : Wonderfully done dah'lings. 😊
Community singing is in our genes. Be it in the pub, at the football, the Proms, in church, we like to sing.
Starts from school assemblies then goes from there

I've seen this so many times and never tire of it, just brilliant. As others have said we learn this from an early age in the UK, my dad was a huge Queen fan.
If you look at the cloud, top left at the beginning, it kind of looks like Freddie looking down at everyone.
Freddie would be so touched as are the rest of the band I’m sure.
England! ❤
Music is the greatest force for good over evil. It doesn't have boundaries
Us Brits were born and bred on the Proms, when we sing as a crowd, it's always good haha
This was absolutely unforgettable. I'm so glad I was there. X
Wish I had been there!
Still sends shivers down my spine,
Body´s aching all the time??
