  • Pain on the inside of the knee, right where the knee bends, is often thought to be a meniscus tear...when it might actually be something called a tibial shift.
People will get knee injections, take medication for the knee pain and even get knee surgery to treat this problem.
Check out the video to learn exactly what a tibial shift is, how to find it on yourself and how to begin to fix it on your own.
The self treatment we teach here, takes just a couple of minutes to do.
The treatment shown in this video is just the beginning of a series of exercises to do to set up your knee to be healthy from the long term.

      Hi.
This is my problem in a nutshell 👍 that bony bit on the inside of the knee hurts a lot when I press on it.
I just followed the video and I already feel a bit of relief although I’m just about to go to bed so I’ll see how it is in the morning.. but one question if I may. Is it both parts of the exercise every 1 or 2 hours or just the foot scoop part.
      Thanks in advance 👍

I thought my only hope was surgery. I had so much pain, which had increased over the years. I did this “shift”. It did not help immediately, but since he stated in the video that it could could take a year to repair if the problem had been going on a long time I held out hope and also did the exercises for inner knee pain from one of his other videos. The pain diminished over the months and one year later I can happily say it is better. I can hardly believe it. (I can sit cross legged in the floor once again!) This shift along with the exercises really worked. Thank you so much. I am very grateful!

Hey there.. I've just started this, but have had pain for a year plus in one knee, and a couple of months now in the other also (but nowhere near as bad) so i realise it will take a while.. I wondered if you'd mind sharing your symptoms as you went through this process. I'm a little unsure, and worried that I might do more damage if I'm pushing the leg parts in directions they don't need to go (if I don't in fact have this problem).
I am having definite relief (slightly) from doing it, but am feeling a little weird when walking. So it feels like my knees are clicking more than normal. I'm really not sure, I mean maybe it's because I'm realigning them. Anyway, any input would be really appreciated. Thanks a load.

Thank you Dr. David. This video may have saved my life. I have been struggling with this exact knee pain. I had the cortisone shot and PT on the knee, and the pain got worse to the point that I couldn't stand it any more. I couldn't complete my last PT session and I had to use crutches to even walk or stand. I tried the leg pressure and the foot scoops and the relief was almost instant. For the 1st time in recent memory I could walk without massive pain, and I felt some hope. Thank you!

Thank you Dr. David, I'm thankful I found your channel. I'm 68 and had 2 lower lumbar surgeries in '92 and '93. I know this burning searing pain in my knee is nerve related. I could barely walk and sleeping was nearly impossible for maybe a week. I did the shift maneuver and the foot exercise and got a lot of relief the first time I did it. I wasn't able to pull my foot in very far at first but I got it in further as I tried. This is day two and I hope to continue getting relief. God bless your efforts.

This actually worked! I had a knee pain on my inner knee that seemed to be getting worse. I exercise every day (walk 5 miles and use the elliptical) and I noticed a knee pain about two months ago that was exactly as described in this video. I couldn’t find anything on the internet about this pain and I was resigned to getting it addressed by physical therapy although my mobility wasn’t substantially affected (I could walk but with pain on my knee). I then saw this video and the therapist seemed to describe my exact pain. In desperation, I started this exercise exactly as prescribed, without expecting any results. To my surprise, my knee pain substantially decreased after one week and it has improved to the point where I forget about the pain (this is week 2). I plan to continue the exercise on a daily basis until the pain is completely gone. Thank you for this very effective advice!

I have continued the exercises but have a bit of a click kinda feeling behind my knee...not too bad. What might that be and how could I get rid of it? I am also finding the knee more painful during sleep. Kinda weird but don't know what to do about that either. I have tried ibuprofen before bed and do the tailgate dangle. Is there anything else that might help discomfort at night?

A few days ago I was feeling terrible and lost for what to do due to my recent knee pain (thinking the worst and considering seeking expensive medical advice)... but after following the simple yet effective instructions in your video, in just 48 short hours, I was not only feeling mush less discomfort, but squatting plates again at the gym!!!! today I woke up sore, but only DOMS pain in my muscles... my knee feels 100% again! This video was a godsend. My inner knee pain erupted one morning as I got out of bed...no gradual buildup...just kaboom. Tried staying off of the leg, ice, heat, even physical therapy. I kept telling the PT's that the routines were not really alleviating the pain entirely and in some cases my inner knee pain worsened. Lying on my side was the worst...the pain was intense doing this...the side if the knee was tender to the touch.
After several months of this I came accross your video after searching. I tried your exercise and in 2 days NO INTENSE PAIN. I will be performing this exercise regularly several times daily...thanks so very much. Keep up the videos!

Here's a strange twist, I have had problems walking properly, too, can't walk in a straight line. There is now improvement. I have more strength in my leg and my back doesn't hurt like it did. This was one of the few videos that described inner knee pain and the pointed out the exact location of the pain. my pain has gradually increased over the last 24 but after doing the two things shown in this video, I was up and walking around with significantly less pain. great video.

I’m a healthy 53y.o. female, but after I started placing pillows underneath my legs during sleep (as I heard it helps to protect our spine), I developed sudden inner knee pain with a slight bump as I tend to wake up with my right leg flipped in an awkward position. When I started to feel some aches, I went to see the Orthopaedics and they ran some X-rays and says its nothing and sent me for Rehab to learn some leg exercise routine for knee pain (which was all about turning the legs outward and stretch for 10 secs, etc). It's been 2 years and no help and they asked me to take supplements and painkillers. I said nope. I have an inkling I twisted something or perhaps its an old injury but I don’t know what... voila! Today I found you! Your detailed explanation, with the skeleton, and the real patient makes a lot of difference. It makes so much sense Dr David. I am going to try this! I will let you know.

My knee gave a small inaudible click and I have been walking and moving without pain, even squatting.
    Many, many thanks.
I will keep building the strength back into my knee and then both knees so I can re-balance my body again.
When I woke up this morning I felt like I had slept better and still no pain.
    Thank you so very much.
    Cheers Wylie

I concur. Not 7 years of pain but 7 months. 3 days of these exercises and almost gone . Amazing.

I have had this knee pain for a while now and didn't understand what it was. The first time i did the exercise it was so painful, I only managed it once. That was 2 days ago. Today my knee is feeling much better and I can do the exercise with no pain. It's like a miracle. Thank you so much. I'm so grateful.

Thanks , i finally understood the root cause of the pain! I knew i have too much of external and too little intern hip rotation, under active gluteus minus and adductors, from sitting crossed legs on the floor maybe... With this self manipulation and the exercise you showed i feel like the rehab will be complete. Thanks for the precious information doc!

I had no idea why my inner knee hurt. I thought it was my middle age. I couldn't bend it to sit indian style. I ran across this video and gave it a try. While doing the maneuver, I honestly didn't think I was doing anything at all. But instantly, my pain was 90% better. I sat on the floor indian style and couldn't believe I was able to do it. It helped, but the pain did start to creep in again after working and being on my feet all day. So I did the maneuvers , it has been pain-free again. I'm so thankful that I ran across this. I had no idea the tibia was slightly out of alignment or out of place. Thank you so much for sharing this video !

So happy to have found you Dr. David :) I'm in North Carolina or I would make an appointment. Meanwhile you have taught me some self care techniques in all your videos that are really helping with all my old lady aches and pains! I'm actually quite active doing landscaping, home improvements and carpentry, daily 30 min walk but I can't squat and hurt my knee recently, walking backwards too vigorously up a hill. This tibial shift technique is working for me - Thank you !!!!
