4:07 This is not true. Votava's run was beaten in 2006 by Richard Ureta and Rodrigo Lopes. 8:43 It's so interesting to see that item drop chart. My mom and I (from who I've learned nearly all of this game's secrets) intuitively picked up on this system over the years. We knew that the moblins in the west forest tend to drop a lot of bombs, there were certain enemies in dungeons that dropped blue rupees, or that to farm rupees quickly you go to the graveyard, awaken all of the ghosts, and then kill the original ghost to get all of their drops at once. To see that our findings match up with the chart and that there's an actual system, is so cool!

The original legend of Zelda is one of the greatest gaming experiences of my life... I remember going to Walmart with my family and my dad said we could get one game for the NES and we all had to agree what game to get. So my brother Joe and I were both looking at donkey Kong and super Mario Brothers but my brother Darrell came over with this gold cartridge and said let's get the legend of Zelda! My brother Joe and I looked at the package I said hell yeah! this game was a true honor privilege and a pleasure to experience back in the day and I cannot give this game high enough praises...
Dude holy shit I love this channel. I don't know where you got the idea to make videos about the history of speedruns on certain games but it's fucking awesome!
Not sure if anyone else mentioned this, but a bit of a correction on screen scrolling (and block clipping, as it's functionally the same thing): Stand 5 px from the edge of the screen, and face said edge. Then you tap a perpendicular direction (so either up or down) for a single frame, and then walk forward. Not both directions.
Zelda NES was my childhood! My dad and I played all the time. What I never understood was how no other NES game (or SNES/sega16 for that matter) had a decent save system, but Zelda was one of the first games out yet the only game to have it, well Metroid and Tyson type code saves, but nothing like Z
Would you consider doing a video on Super Mario Sunshine? It has a very rich history of the community working together and people finding major time skips as recently as late 2015!

Some Impersonator He does summon salt, after all.
BigBoss Jarbou3 Hello, I found your comment meta and hilarious.
7:00 What a freaking legend, man
It’s pretty impressive how few glitches have been found for speed running this game. The Mario games were riddled with them.
I like the soothing music @7:27
Not sure if anyone else mentioned this, but a bit of a correction on screen scrolling (and block clipping, as it's functionally the same thing):
Stand 5 px from the edge of the screen, and face said edge. Then you tap a perpendicular direction (so either up or down) for a single frame, and then walk forward. Not both directions.
"I am the terror that flaps in the night! I am the Like-Like that slurps up the shield of villainy!"
Zelda NES was my childhood! My dad and I played all the time. What I never understood was how no other NES game (or SNES/sega16 for that matter) had a decent save system, but Zelda was one of the first games out yet the only game to have it, well Metroid and Tyson type code saves, but nothing like Z
Zelda NES wasn't one of the first game to have a good save system, i was THE first.
For real yeah, i always wished metroid had saves, i feel like that game needed it even more than zelda lol
Would you consider doing a video on Super Mario Sunshine? It has a very rich history of the community working together and people finding major time skips as recently as late 2015!

One of your best videos. It's great when you include and describe the tricks/strategies of what the players discovered to lower the times.
How did I just discovered this channel? Really outstanding stuff man. You can tell the amount of care and research that went into each video. I really appreciate the time you spent
Liked just for the timecop 1983

Awesome video Salt!
MeatyPunk o yea thanks since we’re all retarded we don’t know what rivalries are.
Usually when you're having a marathon of any particular creator's videos, you'll go back so far that the quality starts to take a HUGE hit. Summoning Salt videos are NOT THAT! The quality is still sublime enough for video game commentary to give me goosebumps! haha
My favourite channel for this month! Thank you for making these highly entertaining progression videos.
Can you do Super Mario Sunshine next?

Average Trey is making it.
But we want YOU to make it.
Summoning Salt 6:08 has a little cutout audio glitch lol
Summoning Salt this channel is already like the holy library of speed runs. So hopefully you can tackle it one day as well
You've got to do one on Metroid for the NES. It's crazy right now.

I'm so excited that I found this, and i'm going to show my parents tomorrow.
They started dating in 87 or 88, and my parents worked together to beat this game on my dad's NES. It was many of my parents' dates.
Thank you so much for this ^^
Now onto something calmer to put me to sleep 😂
Wow. Your parents were losers!
Dude I've been binge watching your videos, they are so good! I'm not even that interested in speed running but your style of presenting is so engrossing
the narrative you give is outstanding
