      @Gerardo Dibbert Lets ignore that there is absolutely no evidence that he wasn’t actually jogging. I call BS on the idea that if you were totally innocent and armed men started chasing you while yelling death threats that you would say “I’ve done nothing wrong so I’ll stop and see what they want.” No, the more innocent you are, the more likely you are to be scared bc you would have no idea what the men wanted.

    I'll never forget when they finally went to arrest Gregory and Travis, and you could tell that the cops we're almost physically hurting when they had to arrest them. I had made a phone call to the Glynn county Police department just the day before, I'm not ashamed to say I was harassing them. The next day they got arrested. I like to think I was part of the public outcry that finally got them arrested. I'm proud to say that.

    As a result of Ahmaud Arbery’s murder last year, I stopped jogging in my neighborhood and signed up with Planet Fitness. I live in the Pennsylvania suburbs, and I used to jog every day like 5am before I started work. Regardless of anyone’s opinion on my reasons for joining the gym, you can’t argue with the fact that all it takes is one time for someone to think that it’s suspicious for me to be out jogging that early in the morning. Especially if I don’t respond (or comply) to them because I have my Apple earbuds in listening to music. If I’m shot dead, I don’t get to argue my point or proclaim my innocence. At least at the gym there are cameras and plenty of people who can bare witness that all I’m trying to do is workout. This is my reality.

However, in America there are many citizens who really don’t care because he might have a criminal past. So he deserves what’s coming to him. The guy can only be accused of trespassing. However, when he was executed, he was empty handed. You would think he was a murderer, rapist or terrorist. Thank God I live in Western Europe.

    Why isn't Arbery grabbing the gun considered self defense?
    This young man is accosted by three large white men who are armed and he tries to get away and when he can't he tries to take away their weapon. Why isn't Arbery allowed to defend himself?
    So you are not allowed to claim self defense if you are doing something wrong. If you are doing something illegal in the first place you are not allowed to claim self defense if you kill someone.
    What we need to determine is if the actions in chasing down a random person while armed with a gun and detaining them with no evidence that they did anything is legal. If that is legal then what's to stop anyone from being held at gunpoint and then killed if they "resist" as in run or try to defend themselves?
    Let's change things around. If you are white and find yourself running in a predominantly black neighborhood and you are chased down by armed men, are they in the right? Can we have the kind of vigilante rule that comes with the implications that what these men were doing was legal?
    These men can call the police if they believe a crime is being committed (although the police are suspect here too but still) or they can document the scene but they shouldn't be allowed to chase down a person down and they certainly shouldn't be allowed to kill them. If that's legal then this country is going to Hell in a handbasket.

    • @sparkyjones560
      @sparkyjones560 3 роки тому +16

      He can't "claim" anything because he's dead. simply put he can't offer a defense or his side of the story on how it was to him, and if the video didn't come out, there likely wouldn't have ever bee an arrest or a trial over it, these good ol' boys would have been taken at their word by their local government and law enforcement friends.

      I'm white, I've lived in my neighborhood sine the 1980s and it's shifted quite a bit since I moved in. when I moved in it was most all white, in the early 2000s it was most all black, now it's well mixed, but I was stopped by police frequently and asked why I was in the neighborhood during the 2000s , and always searched for drugs.
      It's not a bad neighborhood, I've lived in worse this has issues but it's quite mostly, which is why I stay here. But these biases exist, cops and people will wonder what a black man is doing in a white neighborhood, and my neighbors all knew me so that wasn't a problem, but the police didn't so they constantly stopped and searched me because I'm a white dude in a black neighborhood, and automatically suspected of being there to buy drugs, it's the only thing they every looked for, drugs or significant sums of cash.
      "what are you doing here? this neighborhood is dangerous for you?"
      Me: Ummmm.... I LIVE here.....
      "are you holding?"
      Me: Holding what????
      " you're detained at the moment, Let me see your ID".... oh.... you do live here.... got any drugs on you guns knives and grenades missiles or large sums of cash? Turn around so I can search you for my safety"........

My husband drives around to look at site all the time. Sometimes no one is working and sometimes they are. Sometimes the trade people working will ask him for a referral for heating/cooling contractors, kitchen companies, cabinet makers, plumbers, electrical contractors,flooring, drywallers,painters.They help each other out. If I had guys with guns chasing me down the street in a truck, I'd be wanting to get as far away as possible. The testimony I heard from those people sounded like they were doing a reshoot of Hard Target but without the happy ending.
    They seemed to be painting a picture of a caught-in-the-act criminal fleeing the scene of a crime, not that they were simply hunting down a man who committed the heinous crime of being black while jogging.
    That one of them was brandishing a shotgun at him and he tried to grab for it says to me he didn't want to die. Perhaps it's just me, but I'd figure if someone looked like they were about to kill me, I'd try to make it hard for them if I could; if that meant grabbing for the gun and doing something to make it inoperable, I'd probably try. (Bending it round my assailant's head so he loses interest is acceptable. Killing him is *absolutely* not.)
    Then again, I'm white, not a jogger and don't live in good-ol'-boy country, so this kind of thing is highly unlikely to ever be a problem for me. At that, I don't feel too safe only living 3000 miles away, so there ya go.
    In the end, it's a pointless killing of a man by people wholly unqualified to do what they were doing. People who now seem to be playing the victim card, as if the family aren't suffering enough already.

There were even residents from the committee who would drive up to the property and take brick and stone from our property, loaded it into their vehicle and drove to their home. None of those people who stole from the house were black. This was a rampant problem in New Houston area communities. Investigators even discovered homeowners were stealing sod off of New home sites. None of those who stole would be considered so called thugs. They were home owners who were stealing because they found it easier to steal what they needed than to purchase it. • @wilywascal2024
      @wilywascal2024 3 роки тому

      It seems you misunderstood. It was asked to elicit the details from the mother. It wasn't that the reporter didn't know what she meant or what that detailed, it was just a question designed to provide her the opportunity for her tell her story in her own words. That is what a good reporter (or good communicator) does. Also, it was important that she tell her story, because she was witness to what the police had told her, and she is the one making the accusation that their story changed.

      Moreover, it is typical in interviews like this that a producer, reporter, or staff goes over the information that will be provided by the interviewee before taping. Thus, the question wasn't being asked to inform the reporter, but rather to inform the audience, and it wasn't necessarily to define the phrase "he was lied on" for viewers so much as to inform them of the specifics of that allegation, of that to which she was referring.
      As you observed, anyone could easily understand the phrase to mean a falsehood told meant to impugn a person's reputation. But here the falsehood told by the police was also meant to justify or rationalize her son's shooting, to cover for the perpetrators who chased him down and caused his death, to falsely and unjustly portray Ahmaud as the criminal instead of the victim. Hope this explanation helps make sense of things!

    • @wilywascal2024
      @wilywascal2024 3 роки тому +1

      @@korReeS2 ~ Couldn't really have explained it any clearer or better. The question asked by the reporter is not in dispute. But it seems it was misinterpreted to mean the reporter didn't know what the phrase meant, which is an unreasonable assumption to make. No, the reporter didn't spell out he was looking for background, because he didn't have to; that was implied in the question. The reporter is merely providing an opening for the mother to tell her story.
      These types of questions are asked by reporters all the time, they really are not that unusual. In fact, it's typical for reporters to ask a question where the answer is already known. It is done to get people on the record, to provide a first-hand account, and to allow an opportunity for people to expound upon the answer.
      Either some people are misunderstanding the question by taking it too literally, or they are looking for fault where none exists because they have an agenda to discredit CNN. I assume the best in people until proven otherwise, therefore my presumption for this comment and your reply is that it's just a simple misunderstanding.
      So, I ask you to have an open mind and consider the following. The phrase used is self-explanatory; do you really think that a reporter who has been around and has a good education didn't understand the phrase? How could he not? Is it not far more likely that the innocuous reason I explained is the reason? Having watched this reporter for some time, I know that he is a good reporter with a sharp mind; he didn't fall off the hay wagon yesterday.

    • @Finians_Mancave

      It's a reporter's job to clarify anything that isn't 100% clear and could be misinterpreted. Especially when someone is talking with a regional accent and using colloquialisms. We now live in a global society where someone from Denmark could be watching this news report. Bottom line, better to ask the question than possibly be misunderstood.

    It is clear that this case has nothing to do with vigilantism.
    To see this, one only needs to acknowledge the following:
    * Ahmaud Arbery was unarmed.
    * We have only the word of the defendants with regard to details that do not appear on video.
    * Even if Ahmaud Arbery was trespassing at the time, this minor offense does not indicate the use of deadly force by citizens or law enforcement.
    * Even if Ahmaud Arbery had been engaged in burglary, the legal remedy is arrest and trial, not death.
    * Even if Ahmaud Arbery had been engaged in an attempt to forcibly obtain a firearm from one of the defendants, this would do nothing to alter the fact that he had not been previously armed.
    So, it is the responsibility of the defendants to demonstrate why this case should not be viewed as one in which it was actually Arbery who reasonably feared for his life, and so made a last ditch effort to protect himself. There is no good reason to think otherwise in this case.
    It should be obvious to any thinking, feeling person that Ahmaud Arbery was stalked and murdered by racially motivated violent criminals.

    It seems quite clear that Arbery was acting in self defense, that he feared for his life. Funny how Reich-wingers overwhelmingly want these three white men found innocent for the killing of Arbery, claiming self-defense for them, but not for Arbery, who had committed no crime and there being no justification for any citizen's arrest. They also overwhelmingly want Rittenhouse to be found innocent on the basis of self-defense, despite the fact he was acting criminally by being in Kenosha after curfew and a minor illegally carrying an assault rifle, and who was an active shooter when fleeing the scene of the crime after he shot the first person. With Reich-wingers, it's all about the racism and vigilantism, being able to inflict violence upon others without consequence, obtaining the same kind of screwed up qualified immunity given to police using the excuse of self-defense. It's the modern-day version of KKK tactics used by the current crop of white supremacists, which seeks to be more discreet, but is nonetheless all too transparent.
