The JD 110 tlb was an awesome machine. Ran one for a guy for a little bit. They should have never stopped making those.
Best part was the joystick u could use to drive forward or reverse when using the backhoe. Every tractor should have that.

Tim, I too wasn’t initially sold on my box blade, but once I figured out how to use it, I do a lot with it. A hydraulic top link would make it a lot easier. If you tip the top toward the tractor you will engage the inner cutting edge and dig, if you tip it away it will ride on the rear edge for spreading and leveling. Don’t just level the box and expect it to do both. You can do this with the regular top link, but it involves a lot of on and off of the tractor. This is what I have learned from using mine. Great video as usual!

    • @kennethbailey2616

Tom Perley I agree, a hydraulic top link is handier than a pocket on a shirt.

Top link adjustable on the move makes the box blade so much better. Johnny 2 may not have the hydraulic remotes. Maybe in the future Deere will make them standard on the R compact tractors.

yes, the "tilt and trim" hydraulics are great to use with rear attachments. I especially like how easy it makes it to attach to rear implements.

I found that if I am dragging dirt to fill in hole/ trench using the lower top link hole on the tractor side cause the box blade roll as it lift. This release the dirt faster.

Tim use your box blade to do all that grading work you will be a pro when your done ! I was so bad with mine when I started this year back in February now I use all the time just start with it level with both blades even from the ground then it’s easy you’ll get it quick . Thank you for the videos much love to all !!!

Tim forgot to tell ya on that really uneven piles you were driving over, set your boxblade about an inch off the ground with your 3point control with both front and rear blades even on box blade very important! Back into the piles first as this will knock highs and lows off and fill in where needed then you will get your grade started. Then you can drive forward over that path compacting it as ya go you will figure out but push in with box blade first then ya can drive forward over it to dump will be much better . I had to learn the hard way lol

Tim's videos have been invaluable for me. Looking to buy my first tractor for some real work around the place. 12 somewhat hilly acres here in Floyd, Virginia. Been trying to decide between the 1025r and a 2 series. Think I'm settled on the 1025r with bucket, backhoe, and mower. Going to see what the dealer can do on a grapple, too. I can see all sorts of stuff around the property I can use one of those thing for.

You may have figured this out already Tim, the teeth on the leveling box will break up the dirt you are trying to move. With this long project you have ahead of you, set the teeth as far down as they can go until you get close to the level area. Then use only the box with no teeth as you are on here to finish the job. Looking good so far. Keep up the great videos. Loving the radial tires. Seem to be working well. Probably doesn't tear up the yard too bad yet has some bite also. I have found it easier at the end of the job to push the box blade instead of pulling it. As you pull it, the tractor will move with hills, bumps, and dips which will cause the box to tilt and angle oddly. If you push it, it levels it before the wheels of the tractor goes over it which being leveled is a much smoother area as there are no longer bumps, dips, and hills. Just some thoughts. These may be helpful tips in learning to use the box blade. It really is a good tool to have.

  • @BigbearSM-IL
    @BigbearSM-IL 5 років тому

Your off to a good start with the dirt. If it ever stops raining, as the larger clay clumps dry up, just running them over with the tractor tires will break it up to where you can fine tune it with the box blade. One of the easiest clean ups and regrading I did with a box blade was early winter. No snow but cold. Ran the dirt clumps over to break them up then graded everything.

Corn and soybeans today, but when I grew up here in Indiana, we had a four crop rotation; corn, soybeans, wheat and hay (clover/timothy) and raised cattle, hogs, sheep for a time, chickens and turkeys. We were subsistence farmers, I suppose. 73 acres, 55 tillable. I truly miss that old farm.

But to answer your question both are excellent choices but it depends on the situation and ground. Once the turf tires cake up they loose traction but the knobby tires does better if you don’t mind wrecking stuff which men are supposed to do.

I am growing corn for the first time this year on my land.
I am only growing about 30 corn plants.
I live in In Indiana, but just planted some corn for the first time.
My land is only around a half acre, so i am limited to what i can grow.
I just use a small hand tiller for tilling.
Most of my garden is in pots.
Keeping my garden raised up off the ground.
Corn gets a bit tall, so i planted it away from the rest of my garden out on its own.
I knew it would need planted in the ground, so i gave it it's own space.

Looking at your tires at work. Thinking of my mowing (series 1) with tractor tires not lawn or mix. If in 4 wheel due to wet and mud - like to skim along due to water leaking out of the hill as well as rain. On once in a blue moon I'll dig the leading corners of my brush hog into dirt and it dives. The lugs dig in and the correct response is to raise the mower instantly, but one can't respond. 4 tires dig holes. Looking at yours, I think you would tread water and would continue once the mower is raised. Ever experienced this ? I bet those new tires are nice. Martin

I have been looking at the 5075e (without cab) for our small acreage. We have 20 acres - ~15 of it is heavy woods and brush. The other 5 is basically where we spend our time the last 2 years doing what we can. We cut firewood and have a massive amount of dirt work to be done repairing the grounds around the house and pond from water erosion, repairing septic drainage system, maintaining roads and cutting trails, ripping out the in-ground pool in a few years, removing invasive brush everywhere, and landscaping the entire back yard and around the house.
I need a backhoe attachment, grapple, box blade, bucket loader, rock rake, tiller, brush hog, post hole digger to do the work. Every time I look I see I more projects to do when I get a workhorse. I want the tiller to put in a food plot in the far back of the woods that has about 3 acres, and also need to work up the 5 acre yard to level and re-seed with grass after removing several dozen tree stumps.. Originally I was looking at the 5050e and believe it would be adequate but think the 5075e is probably going to handle the heavy work load better moving rock, dirt with the loader, and operating the backhoe. I cannot wait to get my tractor this fall. Nice to see the 5075 at work.

I’m using the 3025E on our 20 acres that is similar to what you describe-it’s a workhorse and has exceeded my expectations for tilling, brushogging, moving dirt, plowing and post hole digging. The 5 series would be awesome I’m sure, especially with the added hydraulic capacity.

@@TractorTimewithTim It would be my pleasure to work with you again... maybe on the tractor this time. I totally agree on the loader, it is an easy implement to use with a little practice, and I prefer finishing things by back-dragging with the loader bucket floating. That being said, the box scraper is a better tool for maintaining a gravel lane or establishing a trail. It is especially useful for cutting a trail across a sloping grade.

Do you do any system checks or maintenance before you put your tractors to bed for the night and/or before you begin the job?

Hey Jeff! Great to hear from you.
      Good questions.
We do not clean the tires. They clean out fairly quickly.
I should probably be more systematic about daily checks, but I do not do much. I occasionally check the engine oil level, and hydraulic oil level. But the engines don’t use oil like the older tractors might.

It’s recommended in owners Manual as well👍🏻

Yes it is ‘required’ in the loader manual.
I don’t understand why the front tires are so narrow.
Ag tires would be a lot more popular if they would configure the wider ones like they do in Europe.

@@TractorTimewithTim I have used a 72 inch box blade with a borrowed Case 430. Using in dirt (dirt was dry} to than pile up with old Terramite with 60 inch bucket to than move with a bump trailer to a new driveway for our 5th wheel camper.
Hydraulic top link does help change from ripping soil to scraper to move it.
Size does make a difference when moving dirt is the project.

I know it’s hard to get to read all these comments but I would read be interested to see if you looked at graders instead of box blades. I am referring to what looks like a box blade but instead of a 3 point hitch it uses a clevis or hitch ball and has 2 wheels behind it that are hydraulic lift operated. They look like they would level a lot better than a box blade.

    • @ynotshowme2ur3times
      @ynotshowme2ur3times 5 років тому +1

Teflon tape only works on pipe fittings.....jic and oring fittings and such any of those tapes or pasts wont help nothing as they dont even seal in the threads to begin with. They seal inside the fitting sealing the threads it would still leak were the fitting turns.

    • @dcmkcbbq

@@ynotshowme2ur3times What is needed is gray teflon tape. It contains nickel, anti-seizing, anti-galling and anti-corrosion. Tightened properly they will never back out and there are many uses in the aerospace/defense industry that I was in Quality Control, including ESS (Environmental Stress Screening) for 36 years. You don't want loose fittings at 36,000 feet!

Im not getting into the birds and the bees farm fight on ttwt. But in all the farm jobs ive been put to work on and now in the woods with heavier equipment......and many different brands to boot from green to red and orange .to yellow equipment.......and also from having to go through 5 women till i found the one that works.......you can use all the lube or glue you want but if it dont like sticky nor slipery it just dont work. Jic and many newer fittings are often misunderstood.........and also underestimated. They have the added joint angles and or orings for a reason. I didnt mean to try and complicate things by saying so. Just you can use any color sealant you want........jic does what jic wants. Its made to be dry and get it done. The fitting often may come loose in use.. ..only thing you can do is tighten or change it out.
Sorry if i ofended you ive never been to colledge. Ive have to basicly lern everything on the fly. One thing i learned around 9yo was how to swap out pipe fitting with the newer jic mainly cause downtime and tools took time and money let alone carrying pipe tape or paste to go bad in the toolbox between dust and dirt and wood debris ext depending on job. Why need 2 wrenches and an additive if you can have a supirior fitting that is machined to mash together in its core and prevent leaks? In my 36 years of being given jobs and acomplishing them and they keep me around i might not be a rocket person but unfortunatly the new school stuff ends up prevailing in the long run. Some things only take weeks some years......like this new emmisions junk. Its enevitable well have to deal with it eventualy

Tim mentioned his fittings were coming loose and I simply suggested the use of the correct teflon tape that has worked in vibration conditions that I was involved in.

Tim, you will find that leveling dirt with a box blade really works if the tractor has draft available on the three point. Years ago I had a Ford 420 Industrial TL that had a cat 2 thee point with draft. Two to four pulls across the dirt piles and flat as a pancake.
