Love your videos and your good nature. Brought back memories of my youth in the Blue Ridge. My grandfather drained a pond that he had dug in the 60's and it had filled to 5-6' of water depth with muck. We harvested the fish and put them in the lower pond and after a few months of drying out, he hooked up rear drag buckets on the 3 point on his 2 tractors and sat on the bank and watched us dig away. That's the easiest way to dig a pond!! he finally told us to stop digging and we rebuilt the dock. Ended up with 11' deep and the most awesome swimming hole/cattle and field irrigation ever known. Complete with a slide for life and a diving board and over 300' X 75' in size. I was having almost as much fun watching you dig as I did when I was younger!!
There are a bunch of people who want to spend your money even though you have the means to do the job. It may not be the fastest way to do it, but as long as you enjoy what you are doing, don't worry about the other guy. Keep up the good work.

1st time viewer here, good video. My suggestion is pretty simple, keep practicing with the loader. I saw some problems with controlling the bucket digging angle. What I do is drop the bucket down taking most of the pressure off the front tires, then rotate the bucket so the flat bottom is flat or if you need to dig deeper a shallow down angle. Don't touch the loader control unless your front tires start to get weight on them (you can carry the front tires 5 or 6 inches off the ground, you have split brakes), only rotate the bucket, if you do lower the loader, stop and reset the bucket angle. It gets easy after some practice and you will have a smoother cut without gouging and high spots. When you roll the bucket back at the edge the bucket will raise the front of the tractor and that's fine. No matter what technique you want to use, experience will be everything. The project looks fun, keep up the good work.

You may still have to hire an excavating contractor to finish your project but your little tractor is doing a great job and you're having fun so what the heck.

Tim, I agree with you about the fun of trying to overcome the challenge of digging out your pond with the equipment that you have. So it takes a little longer to use your own equipment but the sense of accomplishment and the fun of doing it yourself far out weighs the time spent. I love doing that same thing myself. The whole purpose of your channel has been to introduce your viewers to different size tractors and implements and what can be done with them. If you have the money for fuel, I think this project is perfect out of the box thinking about what can be done with the equipment and implements you showcase. I am finding this project interesting, and I can't wait to see its progression.
LOVE that you are keeping the pond! I remember when you bought the property.... you weren't sure if you wanted to keep it or not. I'm one who loves a water feature. These videos are fun.... 'those people' who complain about how you do it, or say you should hire someone clearly don't get what the channel is LOL

Looking good. Would’ve been cool to get Mike/ Dirt perfect to come and do a series with y’all on the pond work. I’m not saying to let them do the work but it’s always nice to see content creators get together and get different perspectives on different jobs. But I think it’s awesome that you’ve worked through the challenge and it’s working good!

I agree, If the pond was built incorrectly the first time, get another opinion after you think you have it right and before it re-fills with water.

Fascinating watching you tackle the challenges and get the conquests. I grew up on tractors (field tractors) and I'm about to get a compact loader. Watching what you do with yours is inspiring and gives me insight to what I will be able to overcome and accomplish. Thank you. I am from north west Ohio. I grew up on an 80 acre farm, then I bought my own 80 acre farm. I love trees and wildlife to I planted over 70,000 trees and had 2 wetlands ponds dug. One pond was 1 1/2 acres and 9' deep in part of it. It also had a small island. The sides had a gentle slope to ENCOURAGE cattails and other marshy type plants. The other pond was 1 acre and had even shallower slopes to it. When the guy dug them for me he used a HUGE pan. He claimed and it was proven to be correct that by driving over the clay in the bottom, it compacted the clay enough that using a sheeps foot was not necessary. From my experience I highly suggest you get your pond more than 6' deep (I wanted to go 12' but he hit sand and had to pack clay back in) so the fish have enough oxygen in the water during a severe winter.

GoodWorksTractors talks about this alot. Use the tools you have, and pay them out, vs renting alot of $$$ tools. Maybe takes a little longer but the satisfaction is much greater.
The Military used to make recruits dig holes for no apparent reason. Little Boys and Tonka Trucks and Dozers. It's just what we do. I love it.
Projects are projects. For people that like do accomplish their own projects, the project is not just a project but it is playing. The journey to accomplish the goal is the fun and if it takes a day or a year the enjoyment of the doing it is just more play time.
I've never seen someone dredge a pond with a tractor before. Pretty cool.

Love your show and please dont change anything. I only have a little x738 and love john deere. I grew up on a farm in nothern germany and my parents friends had john deere tractors an di loved them ever sins. Keep up the great work and thanks very much for all your videos.
Your approach to this pond project has been perfectly fine. This channel is all about learning the techniques and limits of the machinery and you have shown that very well as you progressed through different attachments. It's not always about the most efficient way possible. 👍

I don't know if you plan on making the pond deeper but if you don't I would use that top soil for the edge of the pond so it will be easier to maintain. But what do I know I'm just a truck driver. Can't wait to see what you 2 have planned for the pond

Good progress! Great to see now that the water level has been pumped out of the deeper pit, you are able to get the tractor in the pond and scoop out the muck.

I've been watching your show for a handful of years now. I appreciate all your work into providing honest feedback about tractors and all of the othe products you test in real time. About this job, I think it's ridiculous for anyone to think a 50 series tractor couldn't do this job. Maybe some people have unlimited incomes, and honestly a 50 series is not even in realm of reality for most. I've been in a situation my entire life where you work with what you have, and I don't own a tractor so in my case I just do the hand work. The other side of things is if I had the money to own a tractor I'd do the work myself somewhat out of habit, and mostly because I have a hard time trusting other people to get a job done right the first time.
All that being said, I think your doing a bang up job on your channel and anyone who is complaining about why you don't just hire someone, don't understand the satisfaction of getting after a job that seems impossible and coming out on the other side knowing you put in the time and effort and did something that wasn't easy, but stuck it out and did it anyway.
I think you're doing a great job with the equipment you have. That would be fun. You have the time so enjoy. A little at a time makes progress.
I agree that it is a fun challenge and you won’t know if you made the right decision until you’re much further along on the ride.
Tim that 5 series is just the ticket for this job. While it might be a time consuming project, the tractor therapy is worth its weight in gold. A side note on getting getting a good seal on your pond is a good clay bottom. If that fails there is one other thing that works wonders sealing a pond and that is bentonite. You can apply it before the pond fills or after. Hope that helps.
Keep doin what you are doing. I always appreciate the fruits of my labor more than that of another. I appreciate a sense of accomplishment.

Bringing in the 5075E with a rear blade and the loader was a good move. Beats having to get a large bulldozer and tear up the grass. Bonus is all of the really good topsoil for the grass.
I agree with you that playin in the dirt is fun. With all the tractors you have at your disposal, I never understood why you don't have a skid steer.
I have a suggestion. How about you invite any experienced operators to come out and all work on this project together. Great fellowship. No money exchanged. Have a great time and learn all together. Imagine several pod casters at same time. What a great video too. Maybe even all setting down for lunch showing neighbors and friends helping one another and what a great message
The Amish call it a barn raising. Your would be a pond raising. Alot of friends helping one another and using that great fellowship and learning together. Mabe even next generstion too
Nice work! I just re-did my pond, after 15 years it wasn't holding water. Last summer we were in a drought and I had to pump water out of a nearby brook to keep the level high enough so the fish wouldn't die. The fish are as old as the pond! To get the muck out I pumped it dry and used that water to fill a blue kiddie pool and put the fish into that then used a hand shovel ( 5' x 7' koi pond). Then I used a rubber pond liner and now the fish are happy. BTW I can't use tap water, the chemicals will kill the fish. I have a 55 gallon rain barrel plumbed to a downspout in which the overflow goes directly into the pond. Micro scale compared to your work! Best Regards, Jay

You are doing just fine with your current equipment. The neck will get a work out using the rear blade when smoothing it out. You can always have some extra clay brought in. Suggest increasing the side slope to keep cattails at bay since they like water depth up to about 24". Stocking the pond is fun too. Keep up the good work.
As a little boy I played with John Deere Tractors in the sand box: This is just a bigger "sand" box!! ;-) The mind set is just a "do it yourself attitude." One uses what ever one has to do a job. Sometimes that is not the most efficient way but doing the job yourself often costs less and like this case it is just fun. Only if one cannot find a way to do the job or it has to be done faster than one can do the job: that is when you hire someone else. This pond is not in a big hurry and you have a lot of resources to try so it is likely that you will find a way to do the job.
Tim..I don't blame you one bit..I'm 66 bad heart retired. I have a 1025r I use a rear 60"frontier grooming mower..to mow 2 acres friends say I should take easy and pay someone to mow...but I love the time on my little tractor and if I kill over ..I went doing what I love..there is only one other way I would enjoy ..but I keep G rated...when your on that tractor in my mind I'm on it too..

Great video, looks like you’re making some good progress.
I have found that the first few inches of the muck mud dirt is good fertile top soil, but much further down I have found it becomes pretty much dormant or sterile dirt.
Going to be interesting to see if you run into the same sort of thing I have.

When you dig the clay out of the bottom use it to line the sides and pack it in ,water does not travel well through clay. I dug my own pond with a kioti ck2610 took me awhile but I got it done .good luck hope it works

a local farmer 40years + ago dug two ponds with a farmall M and a kb6 grain truck the pond in woods 1day and the house was 3 days both were 21ft deepest spot woods was ¼ acre house was ½ acre. keep it going like to see this kinda stuff.

I really like seeing the 5 series getting dirty and in action. You are doing great progress with what you have. I know you have front blades for snow, but I'm guessing that's too light duty for pushing dirt. But a front dozer type of blade might work well. Been enjoying these videos
I say you do you, especially if it brings you enjoyment. However, I was thinking you might need an excavator or something more construction grade. But that was only because I was nervous you were going to get multiple machines stuck to the axles. But I like that you are treating it as a challenge, and it’s helpful to know where you’re coming from. Good luck!

If I had as many John Deere's and attachments as you have I would definitely be trying to do it.
My thoughts are:
1) if you have the money and don't have the equipment and/or the time to do it yourself then hire out!
2) if you have the equipment, the time, and money for fuel to do it yourself, then do it yourself!
3) if you have the equipment, some time, and have some money, i woukd recommend hiring someone to either be a "consultant" or to do some of the work that you don't have time for.
I recommend that no matter which way you go it is best you have someone check your design and make sure that it is going to achieve to results you want.
The pond work is looking good!! Looking forward to see how it looks when it is done!!
I think you’re doing a fine job scraping out the mucky topsoil. A little bit of clay mixed in isn’t going to hurt it too bad. Once you spread it out and Harley rake it with Vinny it’ll all mix in fine. And I’m sure that’s going to be reeeeeaaaally nice topsoil and grow great grass.
