I don't have a grapple. I do have the factory third function on my 1025R though. So I purchased a hydraulic cylinder for a top link, pieced together lines and fittings to run up to the third function fittings, and just like that, no more reaching back to adjust the top link. Now I just push a button and life is good. No matter how you use them, extra functions make your life easier. My OCD wished the grapple arms would move together better. Nice piece of equipment though 👍

Hey Tim, from a farmers perspective the practicality of the 3046R is self evident. However; I'd like to see how it handles large round or square bales, if it can. So, future video idea: let's see the 3046R doing some large round/square bale work loading and unloading a trailer. Obviously, a 5 series would be better but, my property is too small for a 5 series.

I am going to expand on what J.C. Wren had to say about shoving stuff into a burn pit. About 20 years ago I worked at a produce packing plant. We had a three sided concrete block burn structure at the edge of the large parking lot. I was the assistant plant manager and production tech. We worked one Saturday morning and everyone had left but me and the back end guy, a tall, skinny black man. He had been cleaning up and putting busted up pallets into the fire pit with our new John Deere skid steer loader.
I was working on a packing machine inside when he rushed in and was shouting, "Mr. Dan, Mr. Dan, the Bobcat is stuck in the fire pit, it's gonna burn up!" To most people all skid steers are Bobcats. He told me to get the dump-truck while he got a chain. I ran out the back door where the dump truck was and backed it over to the pit. He had already hooked the chain to the skid steer and when I got close enough he wrapped it around the frame of the truck and I started pulling. We were just in time, the front tires of the skid steer were already smoking. I dragged it over to the where he was waiting with the wash down hose and he cooled everything off.
What had happened was he rammed the slid steer into the pile to push unburned wood to the back and he was thrown up out of the seat. The seat safety switch turned off the engine. The front of the skid steer was pitched down and with his long legs and skinny butt he couldn't get enough weight on the seat to reset the switch. Another minute and that skid steer would have been toast.
Just the two of us there, we never told anyone. I was there for ten years, we had a lot of fun times. Fun with pallets, fun with fire, lots of pallets, lots of fire. But those are stories for another time.

I was reading up on burn pits the other day and one of the things I came across was people repeatedly saying not to use equipment to push material into the burn pile. Of course, there's the other camp that says if you don't use your tractor, you'll never get hurt on it. And I won't say I haven't pushed brush into a burn pile with my tractor. But yeah, I'm a little paranoid about cooking hydraulic lines :) BTW, when you said she smelled like smoke, you could have followed up with "Because you're smokin' hot!" and gotten some extra brownie points :)

I am going to purchase a 322 or 327. I have a new John Deere 3046R with 320R loader. This tractor/loader is right on the edge of the HP range for either grapple and was curious which one you think is better suited for the 3046R? I hate to give up the 200lbs of extra lift to go to bigger size, but maybe extra width or hydraulics make it worth it? It is for private use, just moving trees, brush and cleaning fence lines on my properties so it is not used hard commercially.

I love the 327 on the 3046r. I would recommend it. The 320/322 would be a bit too small I think. I have found the 3046r to have enormous strength compared to the 1R/2R.

Been waiting for your review of this grapple before purchasing but you didn't really give any details on your impression of it. Debating between the 60" (63" actual) and the 72". Is the extra weight of the 72" worth it for a 50hp compact tractor with a 1700# FEL lift capacity? Also any concerns with this grapple so far?

I would choose the .60” rather than 72”. Very happy with this grapple. I think you would like it.

I bought an Artillian grapple after seeing it on your channel. Do you like the Precision grapple better than the Iron Fist Artillian, or do you just like to try out as many as you can?

It does not look like you used the bracket, that bolts to the loader frame mount bolts. Why not? I had to cut about 1.5" off mine to not block the factory loader hydraulic connection point.

I notice most of your reviews on tractors don’t have enclosed cabs. Is that done on purpose. I’m in a cold weather climate 5 months of the year. So cabs are essential.

    • @TractorTimewithTim

Welcome to our channel. We typically choose open station tractors for a couple of reasons. 1) easy on/off.
      2) easier communication and visibility to our customers and viewers.
Having said that, we don’t have a problem with cabs. We have one on our 5075e.
