- Two weeks and a crash-course in editing later, I made this as a response to seeing someone dislike Louie for being "uninteresting." That's so wild to me -- I find Louie quite fascinating! This video endeavors to express numerous things I feel spark intrigue into his character beyond the inherent magnetism of him being... well... a trouble magnet.
Because he is a trouble magnet. I don't say it enough in the video, but please. Don't get it twisted.
I love this instigating gourmet of a spaceman. I want to dribble him like a basketball and squeeze him like a chew toy. Peak skrunkly energy.

Hello.
The man of the hour! :) Everyone say hi and play nice, now, ya hear?
Hello louie can you not kill me with a massive dog on this new adventure😊
Guys it’s him! GET THE CINDER BLOCKS! *panicked mumbles about how Louie head butted every cinder block in existence*
Real
GUYS HES REAL
Fun Fact: the submerged castle's theme does NOT change, so louie and olimar are both terrified.
Which is understandable.
"Inedible. Tastes like chicken." continues to be one of the best lines in the Pikmin series.
given how pikmin dogs look I wonder what chickens look like...
actually given pikmin design principles... fairly normal huh?
that just describes badly cooked/prepped chicken
That one kills me every time!
Probably like a snagret, but fatter
We need to petition Nintendo to have that on a T Shirt or something.
I like to believe Louie is probably a crossbreed between a Hocotatian father and a Koppaite mother.
Koppaites are known for their ravenous appetites, and Hocotatians are omnivorous.
Oh my goodness. 👀 I love this take!!
kinda reminded of the vulcans and romulans from star trek
Fun fact: in the epilogue story for Pikmin 3 he actually apologized to Olimar and throughout the epilogue develops into a closer friendship with Olimar
🥺 Aaahhh, that sounds so sweet!
Louie's musical themes being swung compared to olimars on the beat suggests the hesitancy that he is known for. While olimar is the veteran explorer, grounded and calculating.
Ooh, I didn't even consider that. A great point!! That reminds me of the caution he demonstrated when encountering Pikmin for the first time; it makes sense that this defining aspect makes it into his themes. It's so fun switching between captains and hearing the difference. :)
@@ScaleTree😊🎉🎉
My minor Louie theory is that when he was passed out on top of the Titan Dweevil, it was because his spacesuit put him in the "forced sleep mode" first officially referenced in Pikmin 3. Hell, if you want to interpret the "King of Bugs" title a little differently, maybe Louie made for such a cool hat that the Titan Dweevil was keeping him in a Plasm Wraith sort of situation...
On the other hand, maybe after surviving alone on the planet long enough, Louie just decided he didn't want to go home after all? It's an all-he-can-eat buffet out there...
I'm almost positive the forced sleep mode has something to do with it, too, especially since it's canon that he has a suit with that capability! Also, that's an interesting way to interpret the "King of Bugs" title... sounds like an intriguing, introspective fanfiction premise. 👀
And, ooh, that's so ominously phrased... I like it!
Descripting Louie as “a cool hat” is both hilarious and surprisingly in character
Louie has been revealed to actually enjoy the planet and wants to stay, he may have purposely get left behind in pikmin 2
YES!!! THE LOUIE LEFT HIMSELF BEHIND CONSPIRACY!!!!
Personally, I think that Louie's Giant Breadbug entry is actually quite a stellar review masked behind what must have been some pretty serious disappointment.
Imagine being a gourmet and discovering a creature brimming with massive meat and fat rerserves, a pairing that will net any good cook a delicious cut of meat. Think of the juicy steaks, kabobs, and roasts you could prepare. Now imagine going through the whole song and dance to make a roast from it, only to discover that its meat and fat is just nothing on the tongue.
Now think of what such industial amounts of blank canvas meat and tasteless frying fat can do at an all you can eat buffet, where most of the meat prepared is low quality and marinated/breaded.
Another thing that supports the idea that Louie and the ship are friends is that it didn’t tell on Louie when he ate the pik pik carrots. Maybe he didn’t want to get his friend fired?
Great point!! As far as I can tell, that's definitely the Hocotate Freight ship that Louie piloted when he was given those golden pikpik carrots, so the ship should have known about the incident. Love this!
The Hocotate Ship deserves its own analysis imo
I love the idea that they are friends! I personally like to headcannon (no canon basis here, it’s just for fun) that while the Ship has that dirt on Louie, Louie somehow has information about equally terrible things that the ship has done, and as a result they are locked in a Cold War where neither can tell. This ties into how the ship is much more careful with Louie than he is with Olimar, and while in canon this is most likely due to how the Ship and its captain just don’t get along, I like to think that the ship is just trying to keep Louie happy so he doesn’t open Pandoras Box for the funny
I agree we need an analysis on the Hocotate Ship! Love that rusty old fella
@@hyliaphora-cecropia Omg I love your analysis! This is the stuff I think about all the time
Coming from the fresh perspective of someone who only played pikmin 4, it was so easy to write him off as just some jerk. I feel a little silly now ngl.
Aww, no worries at all! That's a pretty common reaction for people who play Pikmin 3 as their first Pikmin game as well, thanks to the fruit theft. There's definitely lots more to him, though! :)
My impression is he's a hunger-gremlin sociopath /hj
But he's so silly?? /neutral (i dont know how to feel about this mans)
The piklopedia entries are funnily deranged yet fit him.
the fact the Louie likes to attempt to cook basically anything he finds is hilarious to me. Definitely what makes me love him. I get it, if I where on an alien planet i'd wonder what the aliens taste like too.
I don't think Louie was left behind. He was standing next to olimar at the end. My guess is that he intentionally stayed behind. I doubt he likes his job, and he already nearly lost it thanks to his appetite. Even if the president was dumb enough to fall for the space bunny line that time, it's not going to work again, atleast not with him paired up with Olimar. I also get the feeling he's not ecstatic about visiting or going back to live with his grandmother. It looks like she calls and/or emails him seeming every day. I always got the feeling Louie wanted to get away from his life, and this was his chance.
Ooh -- thank you for sharing! :) I wonder if there's evidence that may further support this theory in Pikmin 4 (no spoilers, please!). The implications of this would be so fascinating if so!
One of his final lines in P4 is "GO HOME!!" After chasing him through the entire final level. 404 is his home now, there's more food here than he could ever eat. He's become a better Dandori master than Olimar by this point, even taking over several gigantic creatures through some mysterious insect communion. Most people think he's evil or villainous, but I think he's purely selfish and manipulative. He was cooperating with Olimar in 2 because it was convenient.
@@andrewbabiak5233 isn't this basically a spoiler?
@@aliasella488it avoids specific details which I think is what she was asking for given that she did ask him elaborate
No I think he loves his grandma, in pikmkn 4 he says how he wishes his nana could see this place and says he wants to bring back some of the "food" for her
Louie is my favorite along with Olimar!!! The fact he made it to the dream den with no Pikmin is really impressive, he’s probably jacked
Louie and Olimar are both great!! Definitely my favorite captains to play. It's certainly amazing that Louie made it to the bottom of the Dream Den alone. Another point towards the swole theory, I suppose. :D Thank you so much!!
Yeah lmao
I dont think he fought the enemies. I think he just ate them instead lol
@@OmegaGenoHonestly I believe you 😂

Louie doesn’t attract trouble. He is the trouble
Finally, some good fucking food. I love Louie a lot, and I’m glad to see someone not just writing him off as an asshole.
Thank you -- and same! I understand why some people think Louie's a jerk, but I thought it would be good to share what fleshes him out and makes him much more interesting. :)
I'm glad there's more people who love louie and/or don't think he's evil. He's just - Louie. He's just kind of a weirdo with some issues but like olimar stated in Pikmin 4 deep down between all those clumsy parts he's still a good guy
Same, my heart gets ripped out of my chest and stomped on everytime I see someone calling him evil
@@Joebama87 same same
like he is so much more than that
There was a TikTok I saw explaining how Louie could be autistic with him enjoying being on his own, likening soft fuzzy items and creatures, cooking being a special interest and more.
+ nonverbal since he never really talks unlike olimar ^__^
I am autistic. When I read his Pikmin 4 logs I became incredibly suspicious that he was on the spectrum.
HE'S CANONICALLY LABELED AS MUTE BY OLIMAR AND HIS BIG ASS INTEREST WITH FOOD FEELS LIKE A SPECIAL INTEREST FOR HIM TO ME AND I LOVE IT
He’s apathetic, takes things to literally, acts impulsively (with food especially), doesn’t talk a lot (except when it’s something he’s interested in), struggles with communication, absolutely obsessed with cooking, bugs, and cooking bugs…yeah he’s autistic 100%
Honestly as an autistic person, I really do see him having autistic traits. His descriptions on some of the treasures are really telling, and he’s also referred to as mute. This makes me believe he might be either non-verbal autistic, or has selective mutism. Food and culinary also seems to be his special interest.
As much as I hate to admit it, I really see myself in him.
Not only is he a good survivalist- his dandori skills are insane
25:42 I have another interpretation for Louie's Pikmin 3 vocabulary, so koppaites, like the P3 trio, breath oxygen, while it is leathally poisonous to Hocotatians, like Olimar and Louie. So Louie could possibly be breathing POISON for his entire time with the P3 trio.
As for why Louie isn't DEAD by the time they reach the Oak, one of the P3 Trio(Most likely Alph) could have realized that fact a little bit after Louie was retrieved for the second time, lowering the ship's oxygen levels enough to keep Louie alive.
therefore poisoning themselves in the process. /silly
A couple words to describe Louie,
He has no rules, no boundaries. He doesn't flinch at torture, human trafficking or genocide. He's not loyal to a flag or a country or any set of ideals, He trades blood for money. He's your new best friend.
The king. The legend. The one and only. Preach!! :D
I remember seeing a hc that Louie is actually half koppaite, which would probably explain his hunger. Then again, the E/D thing is plausible.
He doesn't have a fucking eating disorder, he's just a cartoon character.
He can also breath on their ship meaning he atleast breaths the same stuff as them
I honesty think that Louie doesn't get toned down in Pikmin 3DX, in the main campaign he is a bit simple, but in the side modes he has some really interesting character moments, Him and Olimars dynamic has a good amount of depth to it, not just that he is his "space dad". I wont go into any details because going in blind is much better, but to say that he is one note would be doing him no justice in how he acts and behaves in P3DX, at least from my POV (Also the video was very well made, I can't wait for more videos like this!)
Haha, the "space dad" comment was a thing I mostly added because I see that in the fandom a fair bit. :) I'm glad to hear that you feel Louie doesn't get toned down in the Pikmin 3DX side stories -- that gives me a lot of hope for when I eventually play them. Thank you so much!
Olimar's themes are different because he is familiar with the enviroment and he also knows more about biology, while Louie doesnt know anything about the planet nor its animals
I’m not sure if this is true, but apparently the dad and aunt mentioned are just mistranslations of grandma, implying she is nudging him to visit her and she sent the cookies, so that’s why their only mentioned once each
Interesting! I ought to look up the source. :) If that's so, then it's wild that an error like that got past Q/C... though I still quite like the idea of Louie having more family than just his grandma.
@@ScaleTree translation errors with Nintendo had more often then you’d think! Especially with some of their earlier games. Stuff is censored or straight up rewritten pretty often, with the example I think of first being splatoon. The whole racism undertones was actually added in by the translation team. The Japanese version is more about war, climate change and it’s effects!! The third game even has themes of worker exploitation but that stayed pretty consistent
How Louie managed to get left behind in 2 is actually pretty clear, especially with text in Pikmin 4. He seems to enjoy life on PNF-404 a lot more than life on Hocotate. The only way I can come up with for how Louie could be left behind is that he intentionally slipped away before the last rocket launch.
I can understand that happening in Pikmin 3, but in the credits for Pikmin 2 Louie looks at the camera in shock that he got left behind.
But yeah he did end up finding it a nice place.
Louie is a character where he’s more fascinating when you find out only the bare minimum about him.
Despite that I would still love a game where you play Louie after he’s been left on the planet. A mode like regular pikmin but with a bit of pg survival horror and a bit of cooking mama.
I’m still curious how he cooked, cannonbeetles, waterwraiths, and smoky proggs.
A game where one plays as Louie after being left on PNF-404 sounds sick!! If a mod or fangame ever comes out like that, I'd be sorely tempted to play it!
@@ScaleTree know any game modders?
then please spread the idea.
This is such a deep Louie analysis, id love to eventually see a sequel to this when youve played 3 Deluxe and Peakmin 4
Thank you!! :) It may take a while to put out a sequel because I want to 100% those games, but I definitely want to do one in due time! ("Peakmin 4" is a pun I've been hearing a lot -- so far, on my first playthrough, I can see why!)
@@ScaleTree Absolute PikWIN
The pikmin 4 treasures logs for Louie has him being the most funny thing ever made
He could be startled by the Red Pikmin because it's like his own favorite food is running at him.
I mean I'd be freaked the fuck out if a burger with legs arms and eyes ran at me.
glad other people appreciate louie too! you’ll be positively delighted by pikmin 4
Louie is such a lovable little shit, I love him.
I love Louie, and I feel people really make him out to be more evil than he is. While he does eat the golden Pikpik carrots he's still the secondary protagonist and actually is integral to completing the mission. And Pikmin 3 Deluxe helps characterize him as being dependable despite his eccentric personality. His quiet nature and hyper fixation on food leads me to believe he might be on the autism spectrum, or at least be interpreted that way. Though Pikmin continues to use him for more of a comedic purpose, so I doubt we'll get a much deeper characterization for Louie, like with Olimar and his journals in the first Pikmin. Unless it has something to do with food.
did anyone else note that theres no living creatures around the Formidible Oak? thats certainly something that a person aware and focused on the wild-life would notice. and Louie being said to be in tune with bugs, it might make him even able to notice something wrong with false-bugs made by the plasmwraith. I felt they tried to imply Olimar got a tad carried away by the treasure hunt, when Louie isn't the type risk too much on that.
An excellent point! Maybe Louie was far too creeped out by the uncanny energy of the bugs in the Formidable Oak and just noped out.
God i love Louie. I agree with ya that he's buff but i also headcannon do to his lazyness, and on his off days if he has to go grocery shopping he screams to me lose tshirt, sweatpants and socks with sandal guy.
Headcanon THOROUGHLY accepted!
I really enjoyed this deep dive into Louies character, i already loved Louie as a caharcter but you really got me thinking more into his relationships, especially with the email.
Im excited to see your thoughts on Pikmin 4. It would be great to see.
In regards to 3 deluxe, it is sad that Olimar is not as friendly with Louie, but they do have some great bits of dialogue hidden in there. On one mission you are tasked with reuniting Olimar and Louie after they have a falling out, as you play it Olimar comments on how Louies hunger keeps causing issues, but deep down he knows Louie is a good guy and felt maybe he overstepped the line in their arguments. Our captain still cares, my head canon is Olimar at heart is a family man, and being sent constantly to Pnf 404 by his boss is getting to him and Louies antics may just be the straw that broke him for a moment.
Great video, you have earnt my sub! ^_^
Thank you so much -- both for the lovely comment, and for subscribing!! I'm glad that this video got you thinking more about Louie and his relationships; he's such a compelling character, both alone and in respect to others, so I had to make my first episode in this series about him. :) I'm definitely hoping to make a follow-up with Pikmin 3 Deluxe and Pikmin 4 info once I've 100%ed those games, though that may take a while!
Also, you've given me a lot of hope for Pikmin 3 Deluxe... I was so worried that the side stories totally rewrote Captain Olimar's opinion on Louie, but honestly, I can see why Olimar would be extra stressed and irritable when you put it in that perspective. He's been away from his family for far too long! This man needs a real vacation with the people he loves (and preferably on Hocotate, so there's no risk of crashing into PNF-404). It's sweet that Olimar still recognizes Louie as a good guy, even if Louie can understandably be a handful with his hunger!
Will there be one about Louie in pikmin 4 because honestly that game just makes louie so much more interesting
Good video. As a new fan of the Pikmin series, I've been starving to see and hear more about the Pikmin world/characters/lore and so on.
Keep doing what you're doing. Great stuff.
I like when he goes like “LOUIE.”
You need to see the dialogue in Pikmin 3 Deluxe’s side stories, it characterizes Louie more and made me like him.
Good video as well.
YOU GET IT!!! louie is such a guy to me i'm glad there's other enjoyers out there. funny enough, i always interpreted his relationship with the president being between The Nepotism Of An Overbearing Uncle and Guy Who Hates His Job But This Is The Only One He Could Get. what else is there to do when the guy writing your paycheck is also the guy who keeps talking about stocks over family dinner but to get a little sillay with it. (also, sidenote, i totally relate to him being more verbose in his written entries versus speaking. or even when he's essentially just talking to himself as opposed to with others. like yeah. yeah. it's like that sometimes)
AHH, THANK YOU! ❤️ Louie enjoyers, rise up! I love your interpretation for his relationship with the president; I can practically feel Louie quietly rolling his eyes but not speaking up about it. (And I can definitely relate to that, too. :'3 I'm still amazed I made such a thorough script for a video like this.) Thank you so much for sharing! :D

From what happens with Louie and his history, as well as what he enjoys with food and non-food, it’s very possible that he might have a less commonly known ED called Pica. If you didn’t know, Pica is a disorder which causes people to eat things which are inedible/not food (some real life examples of this are people eating dry wall, deodorant and even bricks). In the logs for the treasures *and yes Louie has treasure logs* he is seen trying to eat a lot of the treasures, and furthermore enjoying the feeling or taste of some. Although Pica is a horrifying ED and is obviously very horrible to whoever has it, in a lot of cases it doesn’t mean it would interfere with his interest with normal food, and as a main focus, cooking. *I was in the shower and I was rambling about this to myself so sorry if I’m waffling a bit but I think it’s very interesting*
I hated Louie until I read his enemy descriptions. He's so passionate about food and cooking :)
One thing that isnt brought up in this video that is very interesting about Louie's character is the interpretation that he is autistic. Firstly, he is commonly very quiet unless he is by himself or writing in his journal. When he is talking to others he is very commonly not able to communicate much. This can be interpreted as being nonverbal. His dreams of cooking and the fact that he talks about it so much can be seen as a hyperfixation or special interest. In the side stories of pikmin 3 deluxe, he will commonly ans intentionally use "we" when referring to himself alone, which is also a common trait of autistic people. The rest of this comment will contain spoilers for Pikmin 4, which has the most evidence, so bewate.
Louie's treasure log displays him literally playing with a stim toy (a fidget spinner), even saying it is "SO FUN!". The amount of autism displayed in the treasure notes is hard to quantity honestly. He loves to play with buttons, opening and closing things, lining objects up, and for whatever reason riding anything thst looks like a dog.
to talk about general Pikmin 4 content, we now know that Louie definitely wants to be left on the planet, which is part of the reason he tries to stay away from the rescue team. The final boss basically confirms louie is controlling the titan dweevil at this point, there's very little that can be argued here. The reason he captures castaways seems to be because he is copying Olimars behavior like he does at work (more autism evidence but I digress). It's also heavily implied that he's much better at dandori than olimar is which is really funny lmao. There's also 2 entries that suggest he wants to prank the President in ways that would suggest he doesn't think very fondly of him.
Louie probably called himself the King of Bugs because when he first encountered the Titan Dweevil he probably thought it was gonna eat him but when it put him on top of it’s head he probably thought it was basically carrying him as if he was a King, unaware that it just liked the shiny antennae on his helmet.
25:29 The Koppaites didn’t have their drive key so they couldn’t leave the planet, and considering it is a game over when you have no food left they probably starve to death on PNF-404.
Really good analysis!! Louie has always been one of my favorite characters, he's so fascinating and it's great he's getting more appreciation recently. Do you plan on making a follow-up video regarding pikmin 4? I feel like his characterization there with the treasure logs, the plotline, and so on adds a lot to him!
Thank you!! :) I wanted to give Louie the love he deserves, as he's always been a favorite character of mine, too. I think it's a great idea to make a follow-up video for him with Pikmin 4's info -- I haven't seen him in-game yet, but I'm so excited to get to that point during my first playthrough!!
This time he didn't commit accidental space crimes. He did all of them awake and pissed off at everything and anything.
DFKASDJF LOL. Oh, dear!
Only 600 views? For something this long and this in-deph, you deserve *way* more views and subscribers. Seriously, this was a joy to watch, and it actually changed my perspective on Louie's character!
Thank you so much -- I'm so flattered you think that!! :) Yesterday morning it had only ~50 views, and as of the time I'm writing this, it's over 1k... I'm both a little excited and a little nervous! I'm thrilled you enjoyed my video, and even more thrilled that it helped change your perspective on Louie's character. He has such a special place in my heart!
GREAT VIDEO! honestly my head-cannon before this vid was "Louie is a lazy prodigy that REALLY loves PNF-404 ('cause he gets to dine on all the monsters/bugs{further supported by the bug emails}) and thus, doesn't wanna leave so he tries to fight back." but now i understand that he's all that AND petty, however since he apologizes to Olimar @ the end of the Pikmin 3 deluxe epilogue I can recognize that he's just human (or hocotatian). he makes a couple mistakes & just wants to be alone & do his own thing. (at least until Pikmin 4 where it returns to just "ion WANNA leave!!")
I’ve always just assumed Louie went to some pikmin 3 locations during his time alone in pikmin 2 and couldn’t think of what words would explain why the shiny gold thing over there is a bad idea. He’s not the best at communication despite everyone falling for a single lie he told one time.
Ooh, I like this interpretation! :) Louie's definitely not the best at communicating; I can see his fumbled attempts at warnings not sinking in for poor Olimar. "Louie's refusing to go for some reason" is pretty much what Olimar says, so very evidently he didn't convey his motives for staying behind all that well. Thank you so much for sharing!!
That curry analogy was SO ACCURATE 🙌🏽
I just finished watching this, and it's honestly incredible how much effort you put into this video. It goes super in-depth on Louie's character, has good presentation and narraration, I absolutely adore this! You deserve a lot more support, stellar work on this!!!

@ScaleTree ah perfect, no spoilers again but there are three things Louie gets flack for in 4 but two of them can be explained with evidence in the story and one can be debated, but the Pikmin fandom being the Pikmin fandom has taken this as Louie finally proving he’s pure evil, even the previously Louie friendly subreddit has turned against him, if you beat 4 and need help finding said evidence, I can definitely help you!

I love Louie and this video makes me so happy
Louie always gave me “that weird kid at recess” vibes and as a result it gives me mixed feelings cause I was always “that weird kid at recess” to my own peers. Never ate bugs or grass or anything, but my interest in insects and anatomy was (still is a bit) obsessive and I can be very impulsive, absent minded, and even a bit selfish in situations with others. Both his good and bad traits are familiar to me, which is why I get mixed feelings. I always preferred playing by myself, picking up and inspecting the fascinating bugs outside alone because I was confused by my peers at best and severely annoyed into scaring them off at worst. I like to imagine he willingly chose to stay behind, because I often wished I could get left behind in my own little world of aliens and bugs, since I always felt out of place and uninterested in other people. So yeah, I’m a Louie apologist.
Also I violated the Geneva convention once or twice, too. Oopsie Daisy, kings stay winnin’.
Kings stay winnin' indeed! :) I know exactly what you mean by Louie having "weird kid at recess" vibes; I headcanon him as growing up with that experience. I understand having mixed feelings about him while relating to that. Louie's exactly the sort of kid I liked approaching on the playground to see if we could quietly be friends; my childhood bestie was a lot like him (even down to the love of bugs!), so I can't help but have a soft spot for the guy... even with space crimes under his belt. ;D Thank you so much for sharing!
My theory that why Louie only spoke food was since he in a spaceship filled with lower amounts of oxygen which is toxic to Hocatations, Louie may be in a sort of drunk state while inside the S.S Drake since his lungs are filled with low amounts of oxygen
I kid you not this is one of the greatest videos I’ve seen on Louie, I’ve been thinking of making an analysis myself. the editing in this is amazing. This deserves much more views. I hope your new series does well :)
That's such a high compliment -- thank you so much!! :) And if you want to make an analysis video, I say go for it! It's a lot of work, but a lot of fun.
I think the big thing about Louie is that he’s selfish, not malicious or even stupid, but just very selfish.
I don’t think Louie’s reason for stealing the juice is as well meaning as you suggest, but I think it’s due to the stressful situation: he lets his appetite get the better of him and takes the food.
I think it’s pretty easy to assume Louie had no friends as a kid, he struggles a lot to have conversations with people in pikmin, and he seems to have a lack of understanding of social norms.
And I think it’s this combination of no friends/no understanding of being a person and his hunger that he prioritizes himself with little regard for others.
And despite the dark implications of his grandmother’s misguided and abusive practices, they worked in their goal to shape Louie into enjoying being outdoors. Both in how he’s such a good cook with bugs, but also his quick ability to be as skilled as olimar with pikmin in pikmin 2, and surviving on PNF-404 all on his own. And may even inadvertently ended up allowing Louie to connect with bugs and communicate, or control, them.
And I think this development of his outdoors nature and introverted and lonely life on Hocotate, a very industrial planet, made Louie go from upset and worried from being abandoned, to being at peace and seemingly wanting to stay on PNF-404, I think (especially cause of spoilers) Louie actually wants to stay on PNF-404, and that he was using the Titan Dweevil to try and keep olimar and the president away so he can stay.
I also agree that I think Louie is an interesting character and that he gets a unfair treatment by being treated as nothing more than a malicious monster of a person. I think he’s just a very flawed, extremely selfish, and possibly mentally unwell person with aspirations for living a happy life, whether it be at peace in the wilds of PNF-404, or that successful cook show he dreams of.
Also thank you for coming to my TedX talk
Louie being selfish is a perfectly valid way to interpret him! I agree that Louie probably didn't have a lot of social opportunities growing up, that his grandmother's influence helped shape him into being an outdoorsman (and probably also helped him gain that insect connection), and that he likely just... wants a nice life for himself. I'd go on if I had more time, but your comment is very well-constructed and thoughtful. :) Thank you so much for sharing!
Note: I believe in the original Japanese version, no emails referenced any family members of Louie's other than his grandma.
This is true
So I've now been informed! It's certainly interesting, though I nonetheless like the idea that Louie has more than just one canon family member.
Not sure if this is of much interest but i followed an account on tumblr not too long ago called "Louie-posting" which i thought was just a funny lil account where someone roleplays as Louie saying and doing silly Louie things, for example a favorite post of mine is a post of Louie saying "where are my tongs?" And another account called "Waterwraith-posing" reblogged it only saying "clack clack" implying it took Louie's tongs.
But i learned pretty fast that there seems to be an actual story playing out that began(to the best of my knowledge) with Louie hosting a grilling party that goes pretty well and was actually pretty cute but until a "Dingo-posting" account brough a CAR to it and Louie, not thinking much of it tried to grill it where it EXPLODES, "killing" Louie.
And i say "Killing" like that because now Louie is in a cocoon of sorts and is metamorphosising, he's also pretty upset last time i checked because he couldn't have sauted mushrooms in the cocoon.
It's really weird and intriguing at the same time.
I follow that blog!! 🤩 It's on another level of bizarre, but I mean that in the most honorary sense of the word -- whoever is running it is clearly having the time of their life. That sauteing mushrooms post you mentioned got fanart (which I really ought to reblog) and it's become a running joke between my partner and I. Honestly, that in particular is a 3 AM mood.
I believe my guy is emerging from the cocoon as of around the time I'm writing this as well. 👀 I'm intrigued to see where that goes!
Great video! I'm looking forward to your next one.
Louie is my favorite character from the Pikmin series. Not only do I relate with his characteristics, but I'm just really intrigued by him in general. With the success of Pikmin 4, I hope to see more of Louie and Olimar's adventures on PNF-404.
Ur content is so good omfg keep going
This was alot of fun to watch, You did an amazing job and you where very entertaining. Earned another sub
In Pikmin 2, most of the level themes for Olimar are written in a 4/4 time signature. This is a very simple and classic time signature historically for most all western music, if you hear a song there is a higher than likley chance good chance it's in 4/4. Louie's on the other hand are the same score but depicted often in a 3/4 time signature, which isn't that rare but the difference in natural note emphisis transforms the song into that "swing" you depicted. This could mean many things, but one fact for sure is Louie always works at his own tempo.
Ooh, thank you for clearing that up! Time signatures were always rather nebulous for me, so I appreciate you putting the difference in layman's terms, especially in regards to the emphasis. Louie absolutely marches to the beat of his own drum! :)
I can’t wait for you to add information from Pikmin 4 to this. I don’t know how far you are in it, but there’s a couple little details that you’ll find interesting.
I'm definitely doing a follow up with Pikmin 4 and more than likely 3 Deluxe as well! :) Right now I'm playing through Pikmin 4 on this channel and I'm so eager to eventually find Louie... so far no luck, but I'm hoping the next area will have him!!
Ok this is actually what ive been searching for, thanks for your contribution to the Louie cult!
Your channel is a underrated gem, you've earned yourself a new sub, i'll defo be checking out your future videos, esspecially if they include pikmin
I'm immensely flattered to hear that -- thank you so, so much!! :D I definitely plan on making more Pikmin videos; it's one of my favorite video game series ever, and I want to spread the love for it on my channel. Maybe I'll do an analysis on something in Pikmin 4 now that I'm doing my first playthrough. We'll have to see! :)
I think I have another explanation as to why Louie only says “food” that also suggests a language barrier.
Because of the fact that Olimar has been working for Hocotate Freight for a long time, he must’ve learned multiple languages to better communicate with customers or negotiate with space pirates if they happened not to speak the same language, and it so happened to be that he learned the Koppaite’s language.
Louie, on the other hand, had only started working in Hocotate Freight a few months ago, so being the newbie that he is to the job, did not know the same language as the Koppaites, apart from the single word “food.”
This remains rather consistent as the only times Louie is not saying just “food” is in the logs and never in person, to which it could be explained that Olimar’s and Louie’s logs are automatically translated by the Koppaites’ tablets
Ooh, I really love the thought you put into this -- thank you so much for sharing! :) I could definitely see Olimar as the type to be a polyglot from having worked at Hocotate Freight for a while, whereas Louie has yet to pick up other tongues. The tablets having built-in translation functions also makes perfect sense to me. This is good stuff!
It should be noted that "Aunt" and "Dad" was a mistranslation and they both should have been reffering to his Granma again.
i think i found a new channel to sub to, this is quality content uwu
This is one of my favorite videos ever I love Louie so much 😭😭😭
Thank you!! I'm thrilled you like it so much. :)
1:47 idk in r/pikmin he is easily the most loved captain and is definitely the most memed
That's reassuring to hear!! I don't have a Reddit account, so I mostly hear about people wanting to punt him on UA-cam and Tumblr and such. I'm glad there's a corner of the internet that loves Louie. :)
i absolutely LOVE the depth and such you gave! i had no idea about the much of a character louie has and whatnot, hell, i’m so hyped to see whatever stuff you’re gonna make!! (i am super interested in the pikmin things you may also talk on >:} )
Thank you so much!! I'm glad you learned a lot about Louie and I'm thrilled that you're so interested in watching my future videos. :)
I never expected to end up on the pikmin video essay side of youtube
BUT IM SO GLAD I AM
this video was AMAZING!!! in so much disbelief that you have only 870 subscribers as opposed to 10k or something based on the sheer quality alone
looking forward to more content - be it pikmin or whatever else - in the future!!!
fantastic video. as a louie fan from day 1, it's finally nice to see someone spreading the good word
Pikmin 4 roped me in, which is probably the case for many people. I was sooo surprised to see how people spoke about louie! I saw him and my first thought was Oh. I love this guy. My god. I fucking love this guy. And I wanna put him in my pocket.
And that was exactly MY reaction when I met him for the first time in Pikmin 2!! He's just a little guy! I want to take him on adventures in my pocket and feed him nuts and berries! ❤️ I still haven't met him in the Pikmin 4 playthrough I'm doing on my channel, but I just know I'm going to lose my mind when I see him.
Okay, so I just discovered this channel from this video. And for a first impression, I loved this video. I’ve become a Pikmin fan a while ago, and the character that has always stood out to me, was Louie. People hate on him, but I feel like he’s just misunderstood. I doubt you’ll see this comment since this video was made a while ago. Great vid, and an underrated channel. I’m happy I discovered this video, 10/10
Unrelated but the lobster looking enemy on Pikmin 2's cover used to creep me out, something low-key scary about the hyperrealistic exoskeleton and the spooky black pearl eyes
This is a wonderfully researched and edited video, and I would love to watch more videos from you!
Thank you so much!! :)
"I hope he's referenced in pikmin 4"
....so about that-
This is such a fantastic analysis on Louie’s character but I want to throw in my 2 cents on his character while avoiding spoilers for Pikmin 4.
1. I like the implication that Louie doesn’t like his job a Hocotate Freight, or was forced into it. It’s very clear he wants to be a chef and considering Olimar does comment that the meals he makes are legitimately delicious he definitely has the talent for it. Personally I have the HC that Louie’s father is the one who forced him to get a job at the company (Maybe even bribing the president to do so hence why he’s so complimentary towards Louie.) leading to their implied rocky relationship.
2. I always take it that Louie is in his 20s while Olimar is in his late 30’s and considering Louie is a new employee journeying with olimar on an alien planet, with the latter guiding him through things as they repay the dept, I like to think Olimar did get attached to Louie as sort of a weird surrogate son (Mostly because he hasn’t seen his family in a long time) and considering what Pikmin 4 seems to imply, Louie at the very least does somewhat respect olimar back.
Ooh, these are both awesome takes! :) I may have to adopt them into my Louie headcanons list, haha. The idea Louie might have been pushed into the Hocotate Freight job by his father despite his aspirations, Olimar latching to Louie as a pseudo-son... thank you so much for the food, dear viewer. I'm so glad you shared this!!
@@ScaleTree I feel Louie does at the very least respects Olimar to an extent (Not as much as his Nana obviously) because he did warn Olimar about the formidable oak and doesn’t seem to have any ill will towards him trying to get him to listen compared to everyone else. Also Olimar likes Louie’s cooking so there’s probably a reason for said weird respect, Olimar was probably the first person to give Louie’s cooking skills a chance.
I've got to say these videos are really good! I can feel the joy and soul you put into them, and only hope it will bring you more new subscribers in due time! You've already got one, at the very least
That's so sweet. 🥺 I've loved working on all of my videos so far and it makes me ecstatic to hear that those aspects shine through. Thank you so much for sharing that, and for subscribing! :)
It has been a long time since I've actually sat down and fully watched a 30 minute video without skipping or just ditching the video entirely, I absolutely love the analysis here, along with the general pacing the video has genuinely shown with each organized moment, and I envy the comedic mastery you've expressed when talking about Louie's personality
That's so sweet to hear! :) So far you're the first person to mention my little bits of comedy; I'm flattered you found them funny, and liked my pacing and analysis to boot! Thank you so much!!
I just found your channel and OMG. Please make more vids and also make one for Pimmin 4 hehe :3
I have a different theory as to why he only says "food" over and over in Pikmin 3. Olimar said Louie eats three times as much as he does, and now Louie is being held captive and only being fed 1/4 of a jar of fruit juice every day. He's probably really hungry and upset, and it's all he can think about.
!!!! Ooooh, I love this! :D And that might help explain why he's constantly chanting for food even after Olimar is rescued, because he's relieved that he'll (presumably) finally be able to have a real meal. Thank you so much for sharing!
fun fact: according to the log about pikmin (louie's version), louie would e a t the pikmin if they weren't so useful. after all, he needs SOMEBODY to carry his snacks.
PFFFF. You know... given what else he eats, I'm not even surprised. XD
God this helps so much when it comes to writing Louie’s character, and Hocotates as a whole, not to mention just a lovely video ❤ Can’t wait to see what comes next!
Ooh! I haven't attempted to write a Pikmin fanfiction before -- I'm glad you're finding my video helpful! :) Thank you so much!!
@@ScaleTree It’s extremely helpful having this information in one place and having your opinion on different aspects, I would love to incorporate some of your head cannons in my writing and designs when it comes to characters and worldbuilding to fill in some gaps if you wouldn’t mind
@@SentientJRPG That would be an honor; thank you! :D Please, by all means, feel free to use any of my character / worldbuilding headcanons you want. Go wild!!
I’m pretty sure Louie’s grandma might of made him eat a tapeworm……
I love this analysis!
Damn thats a good video. U deserve more subs. Also your cat thing is so charming!
🥺 Thank you so much!!
This is one of my favourite Pikmin videos out there, it's such a refreshing take on Louie as a character (so many people seem to forget the Titan Dweevil is still mimicking after the weapons are gone! Louie is scared!). Your research and analysis is very thorough (would love to hear your thoughts on other Pikmin characters, I reckon you've got some good thoughts!). I know you're going through your blind playthrough of 4 atm -equally fun to watch!- but I do hope we get to hear your further thoughts with this new information. Keep up all this awesome work! ✨
Aaahhhh, thank you so much!! 💙💙💙 I adore Louie and I don't feel enough people approach him with an open mind or an open heart. (And that's a great point! Once all the weapons are gone, the Titan Dweevil cowering is a great indicator that Louie is afraid!!) I'm so happy that you liked my video enough to want to see my thoughts on other Pikmin characters -- hopefully one day! 🌻 As I go through the blind playthrough of Pikmin 4, you'd better bet I'll take notes on all the Louie content upcoming for a sequel to this video that I put so much of myself into. :D ✨
Your comment really brought me loads of joy -- thank you!!
AAAAA THIS IS SO GOOD!!!!
I'm glad you enjoyed it!! :) Thank you so much for watching!
Louie is my favorite Pikmin character as well, I really hope you make another part to this after everything that happened in Pikmin 4, would be interested in hearing your thoughts
I didn’t expect to learn more about Louie than I already knew, but I feel sufficiently enlightened! Really enjoyed the video am shocked to see this is only your third one on this channel! Subbed and hope to see more in the future :) (also really want to know your thoughts on pikmin 4 in a video one day)
Thank you so much!! I'm thrilled you found my video informative and that you're interested in watching the ones I post in the future. :) I think a "Thoughts on Pikmin 4" video sounds fun; I haven't finished my first playthrough (no spoilers, please!), but a lot has changed and it's so fascinating from a worldbuilding and game design perspective.
