actually in one of the night talks it is revealed that the reason louie tries to make the koppaites leaflings is because olimar told him before to copy what he does since he was new on the company
I told my boyfriend that Louie once described one of the more mechanical enemies as "barely edible" and he gave me the most bewildered look. Louie is so chaotic he found a way to "barely" eat metal.
I mean, to be fair, it is entirely possible to eat solid metal. Digest? Not really. But like most people can eat the metal ends of pencils or chocolate foil wrappers without causing damage to themselves. Although one dude managed to eat an entire cesna plane bit by bit.
@@jmaldonado790my absolute favorite is the one with the caustic/hydro dweevils. "Inedible. Side effects include uncontrollable arm flailing and enthusiastic dishwashing."
*He has no rules. No boundaries. He doesn't flinch at torture, human trafficking, or genocide. He's not loyal to a flag or country or any set of ideals. He trades blood for money. He's your new best friend.* -Hocotate Freight President, probably
You'd think Louie would be the kind of guy who hides a Zombie bite, but he's worse. He'd hang with the Zombies, attack humans together with them, eat human brains and flesh, people would think he's infected, but then, psych, he's still human (well, Hocotatian) and just hungry.
This kind of happens in Mystery Of The Druids. The protagonist is hypnotized and eats human meat, gets unhypnotized, realizes what it is, but still keeps eating
I love the idea that Louie could give less of a fuck about dandori, yet somehow is so much better than Olimar, who is known for being pretty meticulous.
To Olimar it was a fair competition, it isn't a problem if he loses Louie doesn't want to bother, but has something to lose by failing. If the Rescue Corps can prove their skills, Olimar is fine with defeat. But Louie WANTS them to lose, so they'll leave him alone.
And I mean, for what it's worth, I feel like Olimar has the "Slow progress... is also good Dandori" mindset, meanwhile Louie has the kind of insane scatterbrain to multitask a million things at once
One funny aspect is, Louie cheats. In the final trial, you start with 5 Pikmin. Louie with 15 I believe. Even the one before, Louie starts with more Pikmin. Olimar is a fair player, Louie just wants you to lose badly
I did scream when seeing this evil bastard in 4. Also his treasure entries are gold. Olimar has a long story about his family and Louies entry is just "inedible"
Olimar's description: This creature's meticulous nature sees it constantly on the move for organization, whether it be sorting pebbles by size, or by color! Louie's description: _could've used a little salt_
Quick note: The Golden PikPik carrots were worth a lot more than 10100 pokos, as that is merely the amount after Olimar’s ship was sold. Considering his ship had a lot of powerful equipment (and junk), as well as his life savings, those carrots were worth a whole bunch more than 101 year salaries.
Pikmin 4 has the rescue corps describing the golden carrots as expensive delicacies and a major export from Hocotate. Though I think think there’s also the fact that Louie ate MUCH MORE than a few servings of carrots.
It was more than just Olimar's ship, the majority of Hocotate Freight's assets were sold off too. The value of those Golden carrots was immense, and Louie didn't give two shits, a true sociopath.
People say "man it sucks that Olimar had to go back to PNF-404 before even getting to see his family" but really, I think it sucks that he had his ship taken away before he could remove his "full as ever" Secret Safe.
I think the best part about Louie is that you have no idea what his deal is, he’s a complete question mark. He might be malicious, he might be dumb, he might be incompetent, he might be better than Olimar, he might want to be left alone forever on PNF-404, he might just like the planet’s options for cuisine, no one knows if he was controlling the Titan Dweevil or kidnapping it, but everyone DEFINITELY knows he’s Louie.
It's why I wish he would just stay behind on that planet, but then I would worry about him doing significant damage to its ecosystem, even if they're dangerous AF 😖
That means if you have a full squad of 100 Purple Pikmin, max out Oatchi's carrying capacity and finish Louie's quest, you can carry back something that weights 1101!
I also want to say that people really give the president of hocatate freight a bad rap. The first half of pikmin 2 was him acting desperate to save EVERYONE's ass due to a company destroying incident entirely out of his control (and his life while louie and olimar were gone wasn't exactly luxurious), and the second half, while certainly rather greedy, is done WITH him! The dude is more than willing to put his life on the line for what he wants and that's an uncommon trait among the typically lazy/cowardly corporate head stereotype everyone takes him for. High tier CEO, at least among fictional ones.
@@CaliCosmicGalAlso in 3 they go into debt because of the President. He probably developed the mentality of "I can always send those two back for more treasure."
One small thing to note is that there isn't really a known aunt in louie's family tree. The president saying "auntie" was a mistranslation. The original text was referring to his grandmother.
Similarly, his father being mentioned was another mistranslated bit. ババ , meaning 'granny', and パパ, meaning 'papa', look similar enough that they mixed them up. She was just telling him to visit her sometime.
Yorke isn’t the only one with ties to the Pikmin 3 trio. Don Bergman claims to have served alongside a partner he refers to as “Ducky” (who is heavily implied to be Charlie), and Yorke claims that Nellie is related to a “famous botanist”, but he doesn’t know much else beyond that.
@@SCSlime99well she will. We know from other dialogue Koppai is just hitting their population boom in 4 and if Brittney is already famous then she probably was selected for the job for a reason.
Louie being better at Dandori than Olimer actually makes some sense. As Olimer said when you beat him the last time he only wanted to return home, so he was throwing the battles to let you win. He was probably only turning people into leaflings so you’d be forced to figure out a cure, and use it to cure him. Also it’s kind of a mercy transformation because Koppites and other tiny people would die without life support on this planet. On the other hand Louie sincerely wants to remain on PNF 404 and is trying to defeat you so you’ll leave him alone. It’s also a case of Louie being a genius ditz vs Olimar being a methodical thinker.
One of the more interesting conversations from olimar when he talks about oatchi and moss's genetic ancestor and impies the possible existence of people who lived on pnf-404 and was advanced enough for space travel. I also love how only olimar is more critical thinking of the treasures and their purpose despite schnauz's own notes.
Yes because PNF 404 is Earth after the extinction of humans, this implies that before the extinction Event happened, some humans and animals, plants, etc escaped Earth for the stars and eventually became groups like the Hocotations and Koppaites
If you read some of Shepard's family logs, it's implied that her entire race came from another planet after something happened to their original planet. After dozens of generations, their race forgot how to travel through space and had to relearn it. With the connection between Oatchi and the final boss, I think this means that Shepard's race originated on Earth and were forced to leave, but not without taking some dogs with them. It's possible that her race might even be the descendants of humans, as the notes also suggest they had to adapt their bodies to their new environments, hence their much smaller size.
Still not entirely sure whether Pikmin 2 already happened in this continuity, but it does seem that, with nothing better to do and no urgency, Olimar can finally pass time investigating the mysteries he could only briefly conjecture about before, where most of his off-time went into personal journals and taxonomy.
Louie controlling the titan dweevil is an interesting aspect. As there are many interpretations of it. Of course there's the fact that he could actually be controlling it. On another hand, Olimar's piklopedia entry for the Volatile Dweevil mentions how they're behaviors change based on the items they carry. Which Louie's anger towards being left behind could have influenced the Titan Dweevil
based on how he behaves in 4 i would personally side with the video's view that louie stayed behind intentionally so as to not face his issues or anything at hocotate, and the reason the titan dweevil acted violently was to get them to go away/maybe kill them
One thing to note is that if you leave all the treasures in the cave, only take Louie back to the ship, and go back to the cave the Titan Dweevile will come back and attack, but this time without Louie. Seems like it might just be a violent creature on its own.
@@phili4600Considering how those weapons could cause so much casualties, yes, I suppose it's possible that the dweevil behaves accordingly violent with those devices
I think the issue with Louie (in universe) is that he's too childish he only cares about food and his Nana, he doesn't care about anyone or anything else, even his use of the Titan Dweevil and the Ancient Sirehound is just him trying to make others leave not caring that he could hurt them
Louie is essentially an evil version of Luigi as TV Tropes themselves in the Corrupted Character Copy trope point out “Louie superficially takes after Luigi quite a bit, being the lanky Foil to the lead hero. Unlike Luigi however, whose cowardice and other faults are used to show how heroic he is when he overcomes them, Louie's numerous personality faults make him a selfish, unlikable hindrance and eventually a full-on villain”
This is a bit of a reach, but I like to imagine that part of the reason Louie tried to run away with and leafify the Koppaite crew was actually because he wanted to leafify _himself_ in order to live on PNF-404, but because he stole their food (which was juice made from glow sap), he had already been "vaccinated" against it. So, he double-checks that leafifying them doesn't work and hangs onto Nelle on the off chance she can "cure" him of his immunity Legit, I'm surprised the game didn't end with Louie leafifying himself and running off to Go Native-- seems like it would've been a natural "end" to his character. Maybe in Pikmin 5 we'll see him as the main antagonist again after running off to PNF-404 on his own to go full Heart of Darkness/Apocalypse Now
Man, if that was the case, imagine having Louie mildly inconveniencing you throughout the campaign with his own squad of Pikmin, unbuilding bridges and slowing you down and whatnot
Olimar says that back on Hocotate when Louie was first hired, he told Louie to follow his example to learn how to do his job there, and that he was likely just mimicking the way Olimar was leafifying everyone. That said I was also really hoping we would get to see him as a leafling at some point
It is confirmed that Louie was sent to find and save Olimar. If you go into the log history and find Louies logs you can actually find a list of logs from when he first arrived
Louie is an eccentrically dangerous element of chaos, where many of the series’ events are unintentionally caused by his dangers. I’d like to think of him as an accidental villain, where he is dangerous to the protagonists but isn’t malicious outright, just ignorant about his actions. His hunger got in the way of his job, and would cause the company he works for to fall into economic downfall, and would get left behind when Olimar’s rush to get back to Hocotate ends up with Louie getting stuck on PNF404. It would cause a dangerous round trip, which would end up with him getting stuck in the cargo bay. Perhaps he was just a bit mad that he wont be able to return home. In Pikmin 3, Louie would end up getting captured by creatures and mistaken for Olimar, which results with him thinking he got kidnapped. He stole the juice because well… as you said, to rub it in his captor’s face, and end up with him unknowingly screwing over the kopaites. And in Pikmin 4, he was told to copy Olimar’s actions. But… Louie has one braincell bouncing around in his head and lacks much of a moral highground. He would drag Nelle along and yet again, screwing everyone over. Oh and by the way, Louie’s first deal is somehow much harder than his second? I got platinum on his second battle and got bronze first.
Checking Louie's logs and him talking about golden carrots? No, yeah, he's definitely outright malicious He's past "bad employee" and is at "criminal" at this point, if Pikmin 3 wasn't enough to go on lol
From what I've seen, I see it more as Louie basically only cares about his own wants and needs in the moment, and doesn't care if anyone gets harmed by his actions in the process. He won't actively go out of his way to hurt someone, but clearly is willing to use violence if others try to "help" him when he doesn't want it just to preserve the life he has now on PNF-404
@@OriginalGameteeryeah he's just a self serving asshole. No hostility until you get in his way, and completely uncaring of anyone or anything unrelated to what he wants. I dare say he's a sociopath. It's probably really fortunate that he only has one brain cell that's entirely focused on food, otherwise he'd be a straight up villain through and through.
I always wondered where Louie got the kitchen supplies for his Various recipes, along with the kitchen itself. I like to imagine he just reverse engineered a ship into a makeshift kitchen so he can use it for cooking (like using the heat from the engine to boil or grill foods)
If Louie was in Olimar's Pikmin 1 situation, he'd never be able to leave the Impact Site, since I bet he'd prioritise having something to cook with over being able to lift off with :P
@@RivLabsor he would actually repair the ship just to go to other places with tons of food (and more parts for his flying kitchen) He would enjoy being in the Distant Spring since there's TONS of enemies lol
In Pikmin 3 when he blew up that wall, it’s almost presented as if he didn’t use a bomb but ran through it with such force that exploded. I mean there’s also not really any time for him to get and use a bomb because he runs of the ship and then the wall explodes.
The thing about Louie is that I hesitate to call him either evil or incompetent. He has a truly bizarre, utterly alien way of thinking, being more akin to a bug. The satisfaction of immediate physical needs and desires is paramount without regard for conventional morality or ethical behavior. It's hard to call him evil when the things he does have no malicious intent behind them. By that same token, I wouldn't call him incompetent, either. He can survive in a hostile environment with little to no aid and make complex plans to handle most circumstances. He's a capable leader if his Dandori skills are any indication, and he has a natural talent for taming animals. The thing is, Louie isn't a villain because he has no ill intent. He doesn't go out of his way to scheme against the heroes and wants nothing more than to eat and play. At the same time, he's only an antagonist because the protagonists won't just leave him alone, and he knows their meddling will interrupt his desired life. Surprisingly, Louie is one of the most complicated, strange, and compelling characters Nintendo has ever created. He's the kind of character you want to dig deep into and study because he's the kind of character to make one ask, "What is this guy's deal?"
Louie was forced into living with bugs for his entire childhood, so him being akin to a bug is not that far off, he’s even referred to as the king of bugs and is thought to have been controlling the titan dweevil
Just because there's no maliciousness to his actions doesn't mean Louie isn't evil. Evil is an absence of good. So, because nothing Louie does benefits anyone other than himself, and often goes out of his way to inconvenience others, Louie is by all accounts evil.
I like that Olimar is like the only person in the entire universe outside of Nana who cares about Louie, even though he probably shouldn't, and Louie forgets what he looks like almost immediately after his absence. What a little turd.
Something you didn't mention: in Pikmin 4 he also has notes on all the treasures, which does give some further context in the way Louie thinks about things other than food
One thing I would like to add to this list of Louie’s personality traits and quirks is that in 4 he has his own notes on treasures given us a window of his thought process Which can be summed up in three categories Food, Playing and his Nana Aside from his food obsessed ways he does display some sort of “child at heart” mentality as he tries to play with lots of treasures much like a child would which easily translates into something of a personality quirk much like Autism or Asperger‘s he commonly comments that he tries to fiddle with, attempt to climb on or stick his head in enclosed spaces which are big signs of his quirky behavior He also makes a lot of connections to his Nana which is probably the most driving force of his behavior, as she’s one of the few people that he shows any affection or concern for In the end Louie can be summed up as a sheltered man child with the capabilities of a apex predator
Because this ties to the late game of Pikmin 4, I'm gonna say that I'm probably not the only one who thought that Don, Yorke, and Nelle are just Charlie, Alph, and Brittany at home.
They are. York is related to Alph, Nelle is related to a "famous botanist," and Don has a partner nicknamed "Ducky." They literally are just Pikmin 3 captains at home.
They were originally going to be the Pikmin 3 cast, but I guess Nintendo got cold feet. Their models are literally named after the captains from Pikmin 3 in the game files.
@@sleepy-fc6rfthe reason why they’re not is because 4 takes place before 3. During one of the nighttime chats one of the characters says that “Koppai is on the brink of a food crisis”, hinting towards the plot of pikmin 3. They prolly wanted to put the pikmin 3 captains in the game, but then realized that it wouldn’t make sense lore wise so they pulled out
@@ekeneanyanike7013I'd argue that P4 is in its own timeline, given that Olimar seems to be unaware of the Pikmin's existence during the intro cutscene. That doesn't mean P3 can't still happen though.
I personally don't care too much for pikmin but find Louie an interesting character as despite him being morally corrupt he is studying some important qualities to the planets habitability that other characters are too sane to test themselves, Louie is "the guy that ate every type of plant, animal and mushroom to let us know which are safe to eat" personified as a character.
Strangely enough, after you finish all of his requests, he gives you the ability to have the player character pick up items like the pikmin do. I mean granted it's only the strength of a single pikmin, but the fact that he is the one that teaches such a skill in the first place raises so many more questions.
I actually think Louie is someone who never intentionally wants to hurt people, he just doesn’t have a full grasp on what to do or what is even going on, especially with how his hunger often motivates him to take action.
I happened to glance at your video, and read the title out loud. My husband then loudly said yes, and stared at me. He then turned his screen to me, showed me Louie's entries. I'm now scared of Louie and his infinite potential war crimes.
I’ve never actually seen a character in Nintendo get more evil overtime. Usually it’s a Wario kind of situation where they go from a straight up antagonist to an antihero to just straight up some dude they hang out with.
@@marcinexus or in the case of magolor he turns from a evil god of darkness bent of world domination into a capitalist apple sells men. So he arguably becomes more evil
i have read all of Louie's entries in Pikmin 4, and a few things stood out to me about him -her loves his nana -he dislikes his boss -he loves cooking, food & experimenting with food -he likes money and the idea of being rich -he might be on the spectrum -he seems to feel neutral towards Olimar -a guy of few words, with lots of personality and -he clearly took the wrong occupation, he should have been a space traveling chef, not a delivery boy
i find louie very funny because of how he compares to the rest of nintendo’s antagonist characters. he’s not some kind of ancient evil incarnate (not literally anyway), he doesn’t have any real deep-rooted grudge against the protagonists, he doesn’t have any aspirations deeper than “slack/goof off and eat things”, and he’s not a sadist who harms others for his own entertainment. he just wants to do whatever he wants with zero consequences and eat alien species, and it just so happens that his goals almost ruin the protagonists’ lives and nearly kill innocents multiple times
another thing to note, in the second game the ship even directly attributes his survival to his instincts and "the desire of man". he's very akin to one of the animals around him, in the same way that olimar naturally finds kinship with the pikmin.
Let's also not forget that in his log for one of the caverns in the primoridal forest, he refers to the horned cannon beetle and sovereign bulblax as "big snacks".
He is the ultimate chaotic evil/neutral person in the whole world of Nintendo. Thanks to this video, I feel like the theme for Emperor Bulblax was more fitting for the final boss than the intense guitar theme that was used.
I wouldn't say he is chaotic neutral at all, chaotic evil makes more sense, considering how selfish he is and how much he lies and puts everyone in danger. I mean he tried to kill everyone. *_Twice._* He had every chance to fess up about eating the carrots and purposely lied so I don't believe he is ignorant by any means, he's just stupid, selfish, and a cheat.
Apparently Louie and Olimar have a good relationship as Olimar always forgives Louie no matter what he does which is probably why Louie came to help him in pikmin 4 but his hungry got in the way
In pikmin 2 after the debt was paid Olimar and Louie both enter the ship. Yet Olimar looks back and discovers Louie's seat empty and seemed genuinely shocked. It looks like Louie snuck out before takeoff and Olimar was actually concerned that he was left behind. After not seeing his family for a long time Olimar was willing to go back to the planet again right away. I dont think it was entirely because his boss said he wanted all the treasure but he probably genuinely wanted to bring Louie home.
One thing worth mentioning is that in Pikmin 4, Louie also has entries in the Treasure hoard, which was absent in Pikmin 2. Some of them feel like what a child of Louie’s size would say about them, some seem to enforce his trickster/annoying personality, and the rest are about food (even with some treasures that aren’t food) because Louie. I find some of these entries to be the funniest things in Pikmin history.
The email that mentioned his aunt was actually a translation error, it was his grandma who sent the cookies. Also I’m pretty sure that Louie did tell Olimar that he ate the carrots. Edit: Since Louie’s grandma said that bugs liked at him, does that mean that the bug enemies that attack the captains are actually trying to play with him but hurt him on accident? Also it seems that Louie was unconscious during the Titan dweevil fight, and he calls himself the king of bugs because when he found it he likely thought it was gonna eat him but it put him on it’s head instead causing him to think it dubbed him as royalty but it actually just liked the shiny antennae on his suit. Also in Pikmin 4, Louie was probably putting castaways in the onions since at work Olimar told Louie to copy everything he does.
Louie is probably the most unique character Nintendo has ever made since, no one gets him. Does he just want to live on PNF 404? Does he want to become king and just sees that planet as his chance? I mean, he seems to have tamed the Titan Dweevil, and either it or he himself has killed EVERY ENEMY IN THE GAMES. Implying that, Louie, he can basically murder every creature on that planet if he wanted to. Furthermore, he tamed the giant dog without an issue, just showing he can tame literal monster without even breaking a sweat. This guy is so strange of a character, I think he could have his own spin off game where you as the player control Pikmin, against him using every monster in the series. Cause, damn would that be perfect
I get him and he doesnt care about being a king. Louie is autistic so he cares about very few things, but those things he do care about he becomes completely obsessed with. The only thing on his mind is bassically food and all that is important to him plays a role in that (his nana makes food for him, for example). This is also probably why hes so good with animals: its easyer to kill and eat them if they are friendly with you
Louie is a legend! Even without any Pikmin to help him survive he can not only thrive but take down some of the largest and most ferocious creatures on the planet! Even though he technically gets help from moss and Pikmin in the latest game, it is still presumed that he was surviving on his own before he took ownership of moss.
Apparently by the log entries of Louie on the pikmins, is implied he was using them to carry the food (insects) and he was having selfrestrain on eating them (He probably was just finding wild pikmins around, who knows!)
I like to imagine the reason Louie tried to turn them to Leaflings was cause of Moss and not Louie. Moss turned people into Leaflings because Olimar. Maybe she never stopped even when with Louie. Louie really just wanted to be have Moss as a mode of transportation so I think it make sense if he did what Moss wanted if it meant he could keep her around
I feel like Pikmin was inspired by that Twilight Zone episode where two astronauts land on a planet populated by tiny people, and one wants to leave them alone and study the planet while the other one wants to become their god.
Honestly I think Moss wanted some Leaflings around to become leaders for the Pikmin while Louie just kind of zoned out. It's why they attempted to turn the Koppites.
one of the things I noticed through the various descriptions of the treasures via Louie is that he has some strange obsession with riding dogs. There are several treasures that depict dogs that he claims he would love to ride or thinks that it may not be a good ride, which was weird to me
One minor thing is that I'm pretty sure Nelle being appreciative of Louie looking after her in his own way was only half of the reason she wanted him to be brought back, the other half being that she wanted to beat the shit out of him for stealing their food, since the other Koppaites mention how she's "unusually serious when it comes to food" and how when we DO bring Louie back, she requests to be left alone with him for a bit to which Shepherd requests that they "keep it civil"
I think a detail that might not mean anything but gets overlooked is in the opening cut scene of Pikmin 2, Louie gets that bug eyed look and glances up to the ship with a small raise of his brow as the bottle cap rolls into him. To me I interpreted it as him gesturing for the ship to estimate its value. Main reason I think that is because of a lot of Louie's notes in the Treasure Catalog of 4 are comprised of him pointing out how something seemed valuable and it should be sold. It could just be a reference to Pikmin 2 in itself because that's his debut game, but I like to think Louie sometimes thinks about money too because that's a common concern amongst the other characters. It's a subtle little thing that helps me realize Louie does try to help, even if it's usually to help himself in the end! Very nice video I like hearing about this funny guy.
When i rescued Olimar in Pikmin 4 and they pulled up the cards of the mission people and it said: Louie Hocotate I literally screamed out: NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! NOT AGAIN!
I think Louie is a selfish hedonistic man that manages to disguise his selfishness with "idiocy" or "incompetence" to avoid the consequences of his actions.
I think I heard that the aunt mentioned in the President's email was a mistranslation for Louie's grandma. Also this auntie doesn't get mentioned elsewhere, so her existence remains inside the possible mistranslation.
I feel like Louie is just a simple man who doesn't like the burden of the real world so he'd rather just live in the middle of nowhere doing his own thing
Also, fun fact - Louie is the only... well, let's say "human" for the sake of simplicity, but human character in Pikmin that's a noted omnivore. Every other character seems to be a staunch vegetarian.
Fun fact: Louie is basically the lord of PNF-404 since he can eat all of them (proven by his descriptions), his ability to survive literally anything there, and his ability to somehow telepathically control Kaijus (kaijus for them at least) like a giant gun spider and a dog that has mastered the elements of the world around it.
Louie's final boss in 4 was dope af, like I had a feeling the fight was gonna be against a big dog. But did not expect the doom inspired music. Top 10 video game boss fights
@@appojuce1286they didn’t directly say it, but what other botanist do we know in the Pikmin series? I think it’s a cool little Easter egg for experienced fans
I guess it makes sense that Louie has a better AI, considering he's been on PNF-404 longer than Olimar, but man I'm a tiny bit disappointed that Olimar was so weak
Louie is a very mysterious character. He has cause a lot of chaos yet helped Olimar paying the debt without saying a word. I don’t think he is evil rather and selfish goofball. I don’t think he controlled the Titan dweevil since even if collect Louie. The Titan dweevil still attacks without him
You could argue that the titan dweevil was attacking out of self defence Unless if there is a titan dweevil in pikimin 4 that is unmamned, Cuz I haven't played it yet. (Yes I'm spoiling myself, I'm just that kinda guy)
Louie is unquestionably the Apex Predator. He acts not out of survival instinct, but by an endless bloodlust. His only passions are rooted in the death of creatures he deems inferior to himself. I truly fear the implications he holds, suggesting that his unsurpassed malignancy is supposed to be accepted in his society.
I like to think that Pikmin 4 is a prequel because it helps explain why Louie keeps running away when Olimar tries to leave the planet. Olimar didn't forget Louie in Pikmin 2. Louie ran away because he was back on PNF404 and wanted to stay and was probably genuinely trying to kill olimar on the Titan dweevil
I love Louie as a character because... he's just so hatable. He's such a self-centered maniac with few if any redeeming qualities. At every opportunity, Louie finds SOME way to mess stuff up, seemingly just because he felt like it sometimes. Makes for a great cartoonishly disruptive (semi) antagonist without being straight up outwardly evil.
9:17 All 3 of the koppaites are related to the pikmin 3 cast in some way. Of course, Yorke is Alph's oldest brother, Nelle has a relative who is a famous botanist, hinting twords Brittany, and when Don was a ranger, somone nicknamed "ducky" was a trainee that was a great (but unsteady) friend twords him and who also gave Don a scar of sorts at an unspecified time, Charlie is shown to have a rubber duck in pikmin 3 that he cares about quite a bit, so this is a lose hint twords him (I think it is very likely Don gave charlie the nickname of ducky, which is fun to think about. All of this also fits with charlies personality, either putting on a tough guy act or being a real softie.) It also goes without saying, but the three of them look very similar to the pikmin three cast, having the same colors and similar builds, hair, and facial features. [If you speak to the trio enough, you'll slowly get the information above] *The following section is just an extra.* I find it wonderful how they threw a bone to fans of every game in the series. Every single game in the series is at least refrenced in some way, and while it changes the timeline for a more intresting story, it doesn't disrespect any game in the series or suddenly make them not cannon. (One still happens. it's just that the bad ending is now cannon. Two is changed a lot, as we are essentially playing through it, but the major story beats from that are plausibly still going on in the background (going into theory territory, its possible the president sent louie to rescue olimar as punishment for his appetite.) Three still happens via the dialouge mentioning that down the road, if things continue the way they are on koppai, they might run into a food shortage.) Even so, 4 still maintains an identity of its own.
The question of 14:09 is easily answered. They’re not evil. They’re just animals living their lives. Louie isn’t an animal. He has no excuse for what he does.
for anyone wanting lineup trumpet and wants to clear final cave fast, every floor can just be cheesed with purples and spoilers the 10th challenge mission in the cave you get after olimar story has the urple onion
Louie's priorities, according to the Piklopedia and Treasure Collection, appears to be food, then money, then sleep, then dogs. He seems to care about nothing and no one else, even though he does talk about his Nana. He's an evil little shit and I hate him. No, I'm not just mad I had to restock my Pikmin at the very end of the boss fight with Glow Seeds when he killed 60 at once... Also, very notable, if you go to the Piklopedia for the final bosses for 2 and 4, you'll note that both of them are *harmless* when Louie isn't around. Louie keeps wanting to stay on pnf-404, but he doesn't seem to know about the life support eventually running out. Also, since oxygen is poisonous to him, I question how safe it is to eat the food on the planet. And whenever the koppaites or olimar ever talk about food, it's always fruits or vegetables so, i wonder if eating poisonous, aliens has effected him...also he tried to eat the water wraith. Would've tried to eat the plasma wraith if he wasn't tied up on the ship.
Hear me out: Louie is a reincarnation of Ganon. When he's in control of the Ancient Sirehound, its eyes turn red, which they aren't naturally. Furthermore, the instant-death element Gloom, which looks exactly like Tears of the Kingdom's Gloom, is used by only two bosses: the Smoky Progg, which is a horrifying mutant and one of the few enemies that can truly be called a *monster...* and the Ancient Sirehound, which again is under Louie's control.
Louie is easily the most intriguing character in pikmin, he honestly makes me think of, of all characters meta knight from Kirby specifically in the early days of Kirby where you really can’t tell if he’s being antagonistic towards Kirby on purpose or testing. Of course I can’t say the same for Louie. But it funny that I made this connection
Let's be serious, The President is not gonna leave Louie alone on PNF 404. For starters his Grandmother would never allow it and secondly Olimar is not gonna work for that tightwad all by himself Louie is gonna keep working for that company until the day that he does and no Olimar isn't giving him a choice
Being leafified allows the castaways to breathe the planet's atmosphere without a helmet. If Louie were to be leafified, and wanted to stay, his only tradeoff would be the mental fog making him obsessed with dandori.
Olimar always has very elegant writings about the treasures and creatures

Omg Louie is Mr L lol
This is a bit of a reach, but I like to imagine that part of the reason Louie tried to run away with and leafify the Koppaite crew was actually because he wanted to leafify _himself_ in order to live on PNF-404, but because he stole their food (which was juice made from glow sap), he had already been "vaccinated" against it. So, he double-checks that leafifying them doesn't work and hangs onto Nelle on the off chance she can "cure" him of his immunity
Legit, I'm surprised the game didn't end with Louie leafifying himself and running off to Go Native-- seems like it would've been a natural "end" to his character. Maybe in Pikmin 5 we'll see him as the main antagonist again after running off to PNF-404 on his own to go full Heart of Darkness/Apocalypse Now
Did not think I'd see a Pikmin and Heart of Darkness comparison but it fits pretty well
Man, if that was the case, imagine having Louie mildly inconveniencing you throughout the campaign with his own squad of Pikmin, unbuilding bridges and slowing you down and whatnot
Olimar says that back on Hocotate when Louie was first hired, he told Louie to follow his example to learn how to do his job there, and that he was likely just mimicking the way Olimar was leafifying everyone. That said I was also really hoping we would get to see him as a leafling at some point

Louis does mention in some of his dialogue how he would like to stay on the planet…
No, yeah, he's definitely outright malicious
He's past "bad employee" and is at "criminal" at this point, if Pikmin 3 wasn't enough to go on lol
From what I've seen, I see it more as
Louie basically only cares about his own wants and needs in the moment, and doesn't care if anyone gets harmed by his actions in the process.
Or...he’s just a selfish, greedy numbskull. It’s not that deep.
@Darkgun231 It’s not all black and white. Neutrality exists.

One thing I would like to add to this list of Louie’s personality traits and quirks is that in 4 he has his own notes on treasures given us a window of his thought process
Which can be summed up in three categories
Food, Playing and his Nana
Aside from his food obsessed ways he does display some sort of “child at heart” mentality as he tries to play with lots of treasures much like a child would which easily translates into something of a personality quirk much like Autism or Asperger‘s he commonly comments that he tries to fiddle with, attempt to climb on or stick his head in enclosed spaces which are big signs of his quirky behavior He also makes a lot of connections to his Nana which is probably the most driving force of his behavior, as she’s one of the few people that he shows any affection or concern for
In the end Louie can be summed up as a sheltered man child with the capabilities of a apex predator
Louie being an autism icon is not something I knew I needed
Autism be dammed, my boy can dandori
Why are autistic headcanon so crazy xD? /gen /pos... i think

i find louie very funny because of how he compares to the rest of nintendo’s antagonist characters. he’s not some kind of ancient evil incarnate (not literally anyway), he doesn’t have any real deep-rooted grudge against the protagonists, he doesn’t have any aspirations deeper than “slack/goof off and eat things”, and he’s not a sadist who harms others for his own entertainment. he just wants to do whatever he wants with zero consequences and eat alien species, and it just so happens that his goals almost ruin the protagonists’ lives and nearly kill innocents multiple times
another thing to note, in the second game the ship even directly attributes his survival to his instincts and "the desire of man". he's very akin to one of the animals around him, in the same way that olimar naturally finds kinship with the pikmin.

I mean he tried to kill everyone. *_Twice._* He had every chance to fess up about eating the carrots and purposely lied so I don't believe he is ignorant by any means, he's just stupid, selfish, and a cheat.
Apparently Louie and Olimar have a good relationship as Olimar always forgives Louie no matter what he does which is probably why Louie came to help him in pikmin 4 but his hungry got in the way
It's likely Olimar simply doesn't think Louie is smart enough to be malicious but it could be Louie fooling Olimar using his good nature against him
In pikmin 2 after the debt was paid Olimar and Louie both enter the ship.
Everyone loves Louie because Nintendo villains are usually evil kings or living gods, whereas Louie is a delivery boy who wants to eat bugs.
Or maybe you play as Louie, and have the ability to tame monsters and use them! (Or eat them...)
I get him and he doesnt care about being a king. Louie is autistic so he cares about very few things, but those things he do care about he becomes completely obsessed with. The only thing on his mind is bassically food and all that is important to him plays a role in that (his nana makes food for him, for example). This is also probably why hes so good with animals: its easyer to kill and eat them if they are friendly with you
@@Shyontheinternet99 he isnt a mystery. Hes just obsessed with food. Understand that and you can easely understand louie
Apparently by the log entries of Louie on the pikmins, is implied he was using them to carry the food (insects) and he was having selfrestrain on eating them
(He probably was just finding wild pikmins around, who knows!)
also that he descended through the hardest dungeon in the game all by himself without help and hacked the brain if the mechanical spiders
There are several treasures that depict dogs that he claims he would love to ride or thinks that it may not be a good ride, which was weird to me
🤨 Louie…
@@quegglebyiiiI mean, the Titan Dweevil is just a dog with extra legs 🤔
One minor thing is that I'm pretty sure Nelle being appreciative of Louie looking after her in his own way was only half of the reason she wanted him to be brought back, the other half being that she wanted to beat the shit out of him for stealing their food, since the other Koppaites mention how she's "unusually serious when it comes to food" and how when we DO bring Louie back, she requests to be left alone with him for a bit to which Shepherd requests that they "keep it civil"
Let's be honest we'd like to see her kick his ass a bit
When i rescued Olimar in Pikmin 4 and they pulled up the cards of the mission people and it said:
Louie
Hocotate
I literally screamed out: NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Olimar did eat meat they collected as a treasure in Pikmin 2
Louie is straight-up the villain of the Pikmin series.
Fun fact:
Louie is basically the lord of PNF-404 since he can eat all of them (proven by his descriptions), his ability to survive literally anything there, and his ability to somehow telepathically control Kaijus (kaijus for them at least) like a giant gun spider and a dog that has mastered the elements of the world around it.
Louie's final boss in 4 was dope af, like I had a feeling the fight was gonna be against a big dog. But did not expect the doom inspired music. Top 10 video game boss fights
9:17 his teammate Nelle is actually Brittany’s sister, which is a cool nod to Pikmin 3
they didn’t say she was her SISTER,but just related to a botanist tho, right?
The Titan dweevil still attacks without him
You could argue that the titan dweevil was attacking out of self defence
Unless if there is a titan dweevil in pikimin 4 that is unmamned, Cuz I haven't played it yet. (Yes I'm spoiling myself, I'm just that kinda guy)
Louie is on the same wavelength as a Titan, dear good
Louie is unquestionably the Apex Predator.
That would make sense
Things that people know, Louie is not in danger, he is the danger.
A guy goes to PNF-404 and gets eaten and you think that of Louie? No, he is the one who eats!

All 3 of the koppaites are related to the pikmin 3 cast in some way. Of course, Yorke is Alph's oldest brother, Nelle has a relative who is a famous botanist, hinting twords Brittany,
and when Don was a ranger, somone nicknamed "ducky" was a trainee that was a great (but unsteady) friend twords him and who also gave Don a scar of sorts at an unspecified time, Charlie is shown to have a rubber duck in pikmin 3 that he cares about quite a bit, so this is a lose hint twords him (I think it is very likely Don gave charlie the nickname of ducky, which is fun to think about. All of this also fits with charlies personality, either putting on a tough guy act or being a real softie.)
It also goes without saying, but the three of them look very similar to the pikmin three cast, having the same colors and similar builds, hair, and facial features.
[If you speak to the trio enough, you'll slowly get the information above]
*The following section is just an extra.*
I find it wonderful how they threw a bone to fans of every game in the series.
Louie seem to connect on PNF 404 though he's autistic coded too so yeah
for anyone wanting lineup trumpet and wants to clear final cave fast, every floor can just be cheesed with purples and spoilers
the 10th challenge mission in the cave you get after olimar story has the urple onion
I avoided all spoilers for pikmin 4 and lost my shit when I saw louie. Was great to see him again!
He's the true antagonist of this series and his shenanigans are unforgivable.
...which, I suppose makes him a good character, because he makes me feel intense, irrational anger, and that makes him memorable and effective.
I've always hated Louie and I hoped that the ending of Pikmin 4 was going to involve us feeding Louie to a giant boss. Sweet revenge and perfect justice.
I’m surprised he hasn’t gotten fired from the company yet.
@@mariocooper1996the President is really stupid so I guess it makes sense.
@@mariocooper1996
I assume he hasn’t been fired because he isn’t even the worst that his company has to offer (Olimar refers to Louie as “not my first choice”, implying there’s worse that could have been sent, unless Olimar was being needlessly nice)
Louie would enjoy that too much.
@@dalemonshateu6948 Well it is said in Pikmin 2 that Olimar is Hocotate Freight's 'only employee of any merit' implying that the company has an extremely low standard to begin with
1:21 both the aunt and dad were mistranslations, it’s all just his grandma in the japanese version
I just finished the game last night and I now am realizing that the reason you don’t see Louie all game is cuz he’s at the giant hearth
I wouldn't call him quiet. Whenever I bring him with me he honestly makes more noise than the pikmin.
"Olimar... Olimar... *yawn* Oh. Olimar.... Olimar..."
How did they determine the value of Louie in Pikmin 2? Was the president just like "He's a 10 poko kind of man"??
I love how you save, I assume, the pikmin 3 crew's family
This was a great and short-ish video on Louie! My personal favorite character. I think we need some speculation on the Sage Leaf next!
it is comfirmed in pikmin four THAT LOUIE WOULD EAT THE PIKMIN IF THEY DIDNT HOLD HIS SNACKS
I didnt know pikmin 4 was out until you said it at 0:35!
I like how Louie kidnaps a bootleg version of Pikmin 3's crew
Louie's dandori battle was harder sure, but I got a platinum medal out of pure hatred for the character.
I love Louie's description for Mamuta. "Inedible. Tastes like chicken."
I think Louie should go through a Kefka like transformation in pikmin 5, could even call his theme "Hungrin' mad".
Last week i dreamed of Louie having he's own spin off Pikmin game.
Your explanation of the Pikmin storyline is actually perfect. Also love how you describe everyones favorite idiot!
Let's be serious, The President is not gonna leave Louie alone on PNF 404. For starters his Grandmother would never allow it and secondly Olimar is not gonna work for that tightwad all by himself
Louie is gonna keep working for that company until the day that he does and no Olimar isn't giving him a choice
You notice how Louie's head is shaped like if Luigi's was upsidedown?
Being leafified allows the castaways to breathe the planet's atmosphere without a helmet. If Louie were to be leafified, and wanted to stay, his only tradeoff would be the mental fog making him obsessed with dandori. Considering Louie doesn't seem to have much else going on upstairs anyway, it's probably not much different.
Say whatever you want about Pikmin 4 being "softer" than the previous games, but you can't deny that Pikmin 4's Louie is the most antagonistically he's ever been.
In 4 one of his logs reveals that when he got tasked with delivering the carrots he fully intended to eat all of them
