And even Oatchi's collar! I loved the little bit of extra polish with that. Really makes it feel like MY team, MY ship, MY dog (although he's technically the Captain's, we've clearly become his primary master lol). And I really loved figuring out what dog breeds each new person and/or ship was. Some of them are just obvious, like the Beagle and Shepherd. But some are a little more obscure.
@@Creature_of_the_Land same like it was always in the back of my mind but when i was in the groove of playing the game it was like it was already july 21st
Something I love that all the castaways (at least the officers; it took me a bit to notice, so I'm replaying the demo to see if everyone is as well) seem to be named after dogs and dog-breeds. There's Shepherd, The SS Shepherd, Dingo, Collin (Collie), The Beagle, Russ (Russel Terrier), Bernard (the pilot; like a Saint Bernard), to name a few. Update: one of the civilian castaways is named Schnauz, like Schnauzer, one of them is named Kingsly, which King is a common name for dogs. So it seems like all the castaways are named after dogs.
It would be pretty funny if there were a Fox, since they're closely related to dogs, like a dingo is, or a Wolf. But yeah, I noticed the dog names & it is so cute 🥰
I actually am happy that you can not only throw Pikpik Carrots at the enemies, but can practice fighting them for no death runs, or if you HATE certain enemies, you can torture the suckers with electricity & bombs 😂
Arlo’s passion is always so infectious. Hearing him rave about Pikmin 4 doesn’t just make me want to check it out, it makes me want to go enjoy all the things that I’M passionate about. He reminds me how good it feels to be passionate about something.
Miyamoto has always been so “gameplay first, everything else second” that it’s pretty surprising how often Pikmin 4 interrupts you and takes you out of the game with some dialogue. Other than that I think the demo is EXCELLENT
I honestly was so immersed in the game thati did not notice this until you pointed it out which was after I 100% the demo on a blind playthrough thanks to miyamoto obsession with the word dandori
I attribute that to just trying to explain the mechanics for newcomers (although I played the P3D and it does it much better, succinctly). The annoying part is the stupid pop-ups on the middle of the screen just to tell me obvious “tips” that I learned an hour ago and couldn’t have progressed this far without knowing. What’s the point of remaking all the UI to have as much screen space as possible, just to block it more than what you saved?
Pretty sure Miyamoto is not as involved in the day-to-day development as he used to be in the 80s, 90s, and 00s. Pikmin has always been his baby, but he's been acting as a consultant on the Mario movie and has other leadership responsibilities. I'd wager Pikmin having so many more systems like leveling skills, the dog commands, usable items, night mode, caves, and 9 Pikmin types is a consequence of other people taking the lead. Miyamoto has always been about having actions and buttons be as streamlined as possible, which is the opposite direction of Pikmin 4 (besides the lock-on change).
I hope Arlo starts having a major lore/canon/timeline breakdown like the rest of us as he tries to figure out what in the world is happening in this game
I think its just the same timeline but with olimar having crashed again and maybe having either a copycat running around or being taken over by some sort of parasite
Hearing the joy in his voice makes this video really wholesome. I remember years ago when I first watched him lament over possibly not getting another (good) Pikmin. So it really fulfilling to see it in our grasp after all these years.
Fun fact: In character creation, the color you choose for your space suit also applies to the color of your ship, the SS.Shepard, your whole crew's suits, the light on top of all of your helmets (and by extension: your whistle), the captains' bandana and Outchi's collar.
I've never played a Pikmin game, but I'm really digging the aesthetic of this one. It's very cute and whimsical. The music and art style gives off an almost childlike wonder
i was only a few seconds into the demo and already started tearing up and smiling like a drunken fool. it just fills me with such joy its finally here and I am alive to be here for it.
I tried this demo with no prior Pikmin experience (besides the 3 demo) and it’s really fun. There’s so much to do I’m not even done yet. Thank you for being the sole reason I tried it out, I thought the resource and time management would scare me away but the rewind makes it not so scary and it’s really satisfying building up your army! Very excited to eventually play the full game!
I am so beyond happy for all of you Pikmin fans 🎉 I've never played a Pikmin game but just the sheer, pure joy Pikmin fans have makes me so happy. I love this for y'all.
we're literally number 2 on the eshop with the first 2 games you have no idea how vindicating it is for us older fans lol, especially with the marketing issues this series has historically had
It’s never been my thing, but out of curiosity I downloaded the demo, and while I’m still on the fence about whether or not I’m going to actually buy it when it comes out, I was smiling as I was playing the whole time.
I love that when Arlo talks naturally from the heart, his voice is a little deeper. Its like he forgets he is in "performance" mode and just passion mode.
It’s so crazy how different this game is while also being so similar. The biggest thing that changed was the progression. In previous titles, the Pikmin types and captains were the only progression but it’s totally different in this game and let’s so many new ideas come about. It feels so much better exploring the worlds. The camera, controls, and progression all help make the game feel fresh
This demo has sold me on Pikmin for the very first time. Preordered the game immediately after completing the demo! Your Twitch stream was awesome too, btw!!
I love how the demo reveals just enough story and lore to get you invested. Like, the leaflings? Olimar basically being possessed and Pikminifying a castaway _on screen?_ Yeah... I wanna know what happens! I already wanted the game but now I want it even more because I want to solve this mystery!
Piklopedia was confirmed in the overview trailer. It also has a special feature where it'll let you practice battle enemies once you've discovered them.
I'm gonna chalk up the overwhelming amount of dialogue to this being the tutorial section of the game. And I like that philosophy of game demos. They let us play the intro before release, and then our save file carries into the full release, so we can jump right into it. FFXVI just did the same thing, and I love it.
FF16 also being first two hours of the game to let players get the general feel of whats going to be in the game, which this did as well. Slightly worries me that there werent any bosses whatsoever, even something minimal as say the beady long legs. Other than that, this feels like new industry standard for Demos
I always wanted to play pikmin and this was my first experience with it. I feel empty now that I have to wait 20 days to play it. A friend of mine said “you’ll only understand pikmin once you play it” and he was 100% right. I felt in love at first sight with this franchise
You can always play Pikmin 3 Deluxe in the meantime (or go all the way back to 1 and 2 if you'd like although jumping back that far isn't for everyone 😅)
Highly recommend you play the other 3 games as well if you can. 3 is easily the best one for beginners, as it's the easiest and most streamlined, while 1 and 2 are a lot more difficult and have less hand holding. 2 in particular is regarded as the hardest game, but its unlimited day system makes it a bit more forgiving if you're not as good with time management or like to spend more days just growing pikmin (or have to spend time licking your wounds from learning just how harsh those caves get). If you prefer time management, go to 1 or 3. All 3 are available on switch, so it's really easy to play the whole series if you want.
@@iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii4222 it really depends what it is about Pikmin you like. For me, it's the multitasking and trying to see how much you can get done all at once. Because of that, 2 might actually be my least favorite since the lack of any real urgency kind of removes that aspect of the game. Plus Pikmin 2 just spends way too much of the game in the cages for my liking- it makes it feel too grindy for me. If that's what you're looking for in a Pikmin game though that's fine, it's just not for me though so the game falls flatter than the others for me
I really want to see him do more of the silly skits and things like he'd do in the earlier years, those were the reason I kept coming back. Like, it's fine to hear his thoughts on games! But I like puppetry a lot, and it's cool to see someone who's so good at it!
What I love about the upgrades is that, instead of randomly finding the items randomly in the overworld (Pikmin 3), you use the materials you collect to produce the upgrades. Pikmin 2 had the excuse that those things were developed from the treasures you collected, but in Pikmin 3 the upgrades were just... things Olimar put there to whoever. I also see it as another layer of strategy because you use the materials for the shop and the overworld to construct bridges and build paths, so you have to manage those resources as well.
My main issue is that there is SO much dialog. It seems like every few minutes there is a dialog break that goes on for way too long. It felt like half my time playing the demo was spent skipping through text, and after the first hour I just pressed + and skipped all dialog and honestly felt like I wasn't missing anything.
I've never even played a pikmin game in my life and I am so SO excited for you, your passion and joy for this adorable little franchise is contagious and I'm really looking forward to watching you play more
It’s funny because while playing the Demo, I was watching Arlo’s prior Pikmin videos, and among those videos, Arlo was going over the Hotel Transylvania Pikmin clone and a bunch of stuff that he mentioned that was in that game made it in a similar form to Pikmin 4. I can’t imagine the joy those developers have felt seeing how their project inspired their source of inspiration.
I played the demo, first Pikmin experience I have ever had. God, I loved it. A couple things to note: the castaways are not in specific places, but the order you find them in is the same. For example, dingo is always the fourth castaway you encounter, whether your fourth cave is industrial maze or cracking cauldron or any other cave. The castaway after dingo (to my memory), grants you the piklopedia. Hope this is news to some.
For the record the demo allows you to 100% the area. Work it right to get as close to 1500 as you can then finish unlocking everything in the area, then on the last day rush and collect everything, moving the base as you go and empty out the caves.
Yeah I was surprised how far they let me stretch the demo. I managed to get 50% in 5 hours before I complete the goal and couldn't continue. If I have a chance I might start up a new save file and aim for the 100%.
It made me really happy to realize that you can 100% the area on Day 3 if you go all in on Oatchi's carry strength, and that Miyamoto definitely made it possible on purpose.
Everyone i think Arlo likes Pikmin, seriously though, i always have a big beaming smile on my face when Arlo screams in utter excitement over something, it's so wholesome, thanks Arlo man
Nintendo’s best franchise IMO. Every main Pikmin game is on the Switch now and you owe it to yourself to take the plunge if you haven’t yet, especially since 4 is shaping up to be something special.
I never played pikmin before, but the enthusiasm from people on UA-cam, like you, got me to try this demo. It is so easy to understand where that passion comes from now.
The two weirdest feeling changes for me are the aim assist lock on and when throwing pikmin to carry things the slight pause when you've thrown the bare minimum for the object, just takes some getting used to. I am so hyped for this game! I've played this demo and 100% the first area 3 times now.
just finished the pimin 4 vod and arlo said "I'll release the video on it tomorrow". I checked, it wasn't there, and then suddenly there it is in my recommended! I've never played a pikmin game before but I'm trying the demo now. Arlo has convinced me
I gotta say, I like Pikmin. I really do, I played and replayed the heck out of Pikmin 2 back during the GCN days and even the Wii days, but it's not one of my hype games like Metroid is. This demo... has left me just as excited as I was for Metroid Dread when it was announced. And it's such a meaty demo, too. I played for 4 in-game days and actually had to save and continue the day after. I want more Pikmin now, and I'm really sad that we've got to wait until September for Pikmin's 1 + 2 physical release.
Your enthusiasm and excitement for this game has inspired me to try the demo. I never thought much of the series but I figured I'd give it a shot. Enjoyed the demo immensely and this will be a day one purchase. So thank you for opening my eyes to this series.
Arlo waited a very long time for Pikmin 4, the fact that he’s actually getting to play it is unbelievably cool. Listening to his impressions of the demo has only heightened my excitement for this game.
I had never played Pikmin before, I hadn't even heard of it when I was a kid. I got excited about it because you were so excited so I decided to try out the demo and had a very strong "Where have you been all my life!?" moment. I need this game
Addressing your fear that it won't be difficult enough, keep in mind that we didn't get to fight a single actual boss in this demo, and only one mini boss, not to mention there are sure to be new enemies that we will be terrified of. We also haven't got to play night mode, which could be way more difficult for all we know. Just wait. The difficulty will be there.
My biggest problem with the demo is that it Never. Ever. EVER shut up for more than 5 seconds. You walk 2 steps, cutscene. Walk another 2 steps, cut scene. Finally start the 1st proper level, cut scene. See a new enemy, cut scene. Oatchi does something, cut scene. And even during gameplay when there isn't a cut scene your squad constantly is talking, usually giving you the answers of where to go or what to do. Which is a big problem, not only because it is condescending and ruins the fun of figuring stuff out for myself, but also because the 1 level they show off is massive by Pikmin standards. You see this garden environment and you want to explore it for yourself. You go to your 1st cave, and want to explore it by yourself. Imagine if in Tears of the Kingdom Link was stopped every few seconds to explain every item and enemy in sight and given the answer to every puzzle. It would ruin the game. But in Pikmin 4 most cases NPCs tell you what lies ahead and what to do to get there. And NPCs also don't shut up by having to explain things I was already willing to suspend my disbelief for. I can accept that time doesn't move the same when underground, I don't need to halt the game so an NPC can explain why it is that way. It's the same problem modern Pokemon has. I want so badly to get immersed but the game won't let me. I really hope that it is just the beginning of the game that's like that, and the rest will be more hands off. If it keeps up as is then this will be the weakest Pikmin game in the series, Hey Pikmin included.
There's also the question of why Oatchi is in the game if Ice Pikmin are already here. Both seem to serve identical purposes; getting across the surface of the ice without going underneath the water level. I know Oatchi will get upgrades to expand his abilities, but if his base ability is something the new Pikmin already do, then it seems wasted. I'm also not a huge fan of how his charge tackle controls. It just felt a bit wonky to me. I'm still going to buy the game, but only because I'm hoping that most of the above gets sorted out later in the game.
I’m hoping it’s front-loaded just because there’s a lot to explain for newcomers, and they’re clearly pushing this game hard as a sort of last-ditch effort for the series. Hence why so many revisions to try and optimize things.
@@RachelXKnight666 he streamed it on twitch, and the steam vod (just an archive of the stream, though no chat) is on arloplays, which is linked in the description of the video in the "Stream VODs:" section
@@aceae4210 thank you. I was confused because I checked his twitch channel and it wasn’t there. I appreciate you letting me know where I could find his stream here on UA-cam!
I love how its also less linear now. Like- sure you could do A LOT on every Pikmin game, but for example in 3 it was essentially linear with extras. Sure theres Fruit but theres always a linear path and road (or in 2 collect the globes to get new areas). Now theres just "get treasures to upgrade the ship" ITS SO GOOD. Of course there will be a fastest, optimal, route, but generally its just so open
This is the first pikmin game where I felt like I was an adventurer discovering stuff and I think 90% of that has to do with how they present the world to the player. The behind the back angle really lends itself to the scale of the world and makes it feel like you’re exploring and discovering new territory.
Here's my first impressions: Positive -The game is bursting with charm, from character interactions to animations -The game is gorgeous - I love the sizzling floors, it gives reds some utility outside of fighting, or an answer to the uncommon fire hazard. - The character creator was simple, but still fantastic. I love how the ship turns whatever color you chose for your character. -Oatchi was a nice surprise, from the trailers I thought he was going to be waaaaay too broken, but he supports the gameplay in a nice way. - normally, I have to turn on a special control scheme for pikmin, because it is not very natural to me. This felt super intuitive and natural. -Vertically for the win! Negative -the game treats you like an absolute baby. Anytime anything needs doing, they tell you. Sure, in three they kind of do this to an extent, but it's just overbearing here. Not to mention, while the dialoge interactions are charming, they point every little thing out, stating obvious facts. The game isn't handholding you, it's basically carrying you. -Checking descriptions of the items, the characters talk as if they know the exact uses of the item in the real world, and not an alien encountering it for the first time. It sounds minor, but it breaks immersion and is super disappointing. I can take wink wink moments, but not when it's nearly every treasure in the game. -The game is easy so far, which is annoying, but it's a relatively minor complaint in my eyes because (as somone who never played pikmin 2, but plans to) I feel it a kind of a nice experience to moderately focus on the battles to focus more on puzzle solving. -the vibes, I don't know, it just feels off in a way I have trouble describing. Like no form of danger and risk I love in the franchise is present in any form, gameplay or story. It doesn’t feel lonely at all, and you don't feel like an explorer of any sorts. Mabye it'll get better as the story progresses.
to your last point… it feels like you’re playing on regular Earth, not this weirdly unexplained post-apocalyptic Earth… that, and there are just a lot of characters, so it feels less lonely. one of my favorite things about the original _Pikmin_ was reading Olimar’s logs at the end of each day, pining for home.
I 100% agree. The hand-holding and the weird vibes seeing how its obviously just present-day Earth is kinda meh compared to the mystique of the older games.
I have played only 3 but what I see is 4 is not totally the same in 3 (may including 1 or 2). They change theme from "survive from unknown" to "soldier's operations" (including AI on the ship, this is why they know every tool how to use due to AI, but yeah, kinda non-sense) They change from RTS game with linear progression, jugging three captains in 3 (compare it to FE Engage) to semi-open world adventure with upgrades and gears in 4 (compate it to BOTW, landmarks are basically towers and caves are basically shrines.) In term of difficulty, I think since Wii era. Nintendo games are never hard in base story mode. So, I think Pikmin 4 will not hard more than 3 (especially with upgrade and gear farming), but it possible to have special caves or secret levels that's fucking hard. I hope they will have truly hard mode for Veteran. I also think games nowadays are over-explanation anyway. So I think it is not weird, but they should have option to reduce tutorials from the start for returning players.
Knowing how long we have been waiting for new content tacking every little piece of new content we can play I’m not sure how we will handle an entire game
It still isn't absolutely, positively confirmed this is a retcon. The log people keep citing as definitive proof could mean either: This is before 2, and it's a tongue in cheek reference to that, OR, Olimar dreamed about the true cause of the events of two, and laughed it off because he thought it was ridiculous. Remember, Olimar doesn't know what ACTUALLY happened to the Pikpik Carrots. It could easily be a red herring.
Favorite new quality of life feature: When you whistle to call your pikmin, the ones that arent doing anything come immediately, but the ones carrying treasure will pause to make sure you really wantes to do that.
I'm really glad you're enjoying it so far!! I look forward to playing Pikmin 4 and the hype is contagious- never played a regular full Pikmin game before this!!
I'm not a Pikmin fan, I never played Pikmin, I'm not sure I even ever plan to play a Pikmin game... But it does look super awesome, and I'm extremely happy for all of the fans that this game means so much to, and I'm here to support my man Arlo!
Fun Fact for you: You can get blue pikmin in the demo! If you spend your first 2 puppy points into the "buff" skill for Oatchi, he can haul with a strength of 10. If you've found both flarlick as well, then you'll just need 30 ice pikmin, 10 of any other pikmin, and Oatchi to haul the blue onion back to base! You still have to find it all first though ;)
You technically don't need Buff 3. I used all the Pup Drive points on other stuff before finding it, but I was able to get it. I had the Ice Pikmin take it out onto the ice but then it thawed and they dropped it in the water. I had to ram it with Oatchi like 20 times to get it to the other shore, then picked it up with Pikmin again.
As soon as I saw the Pikmin 4 stuff in the Direct, my mind wen immediately to you Arlo and I hoped that you were loving it! So happy to see that you are getting your fix and hope it is amazing!
I remember a long long time ago, my mom bought me pikmim for GameCube. I didn't like it as a kid because it made no sense to me. I watched your big fat review of the original, and it spoke to me more than I imagined it would. Luckily, I happened upon that review, and then coincidentally, I hear that 4 is dropping soon. After that review, I visited your channel and saw there was a demo out for switch! Naturally, with all that interest, I installed it and fell in love with the game so quickly. It's so creative and colorful and rewarding in all the right ways. I sat there and played the whole demo in one shot. I then immediately pre-ordered it from the nearest gamestop. Thank you for reintroducing me to this Gem. I'm so happy I revisited the series and am so glad I found your videos! 😊
Also in my mind the 'limited' pikmin number and upgrading it plays into the character being a rookie thrust into having to control and manage pikmin and that ability growing over time is fun
I also worry about the difficulty. This WAS just the first area, but even for a first area it was ridic easy. Even with the artificial Pikmin cap, killing enemies was super easy. I also did not lose a single Pikmin, and I 100%ed the first area (ok, ALMOST 100%. I got to 99% and I have no idea why because I thought I collected every treasure on the last day, but we shall see when the game launches). It treated that spiky enemy as the 'boss' of the area, but it was still super easy. I know, I've played all the way through 1, 2 and 3, so I got Pikmin experience, and maybe new players would be put off by higher difficulty. But that's just the name of the game. It's not Pikmin if there is no real risk of losing Pikmin. The auto-targeting completely trivializes pretty much every small enemy like dwarf Bulborbs and male sheargrubs, and enemies are slower to chomp on your Pikmin. The game will be fun even if it is too easy, but it will not overtake Pikmin 2 as the best Pikmin game if it doesn't have difficulty that rivals or surpasses Pikmin 2.
Hey! You most likely missed either the blue onion (upgrade Oatchi to carry 10, use 30 ice pikmin to freeze the water and then jump onto the ledge. Get all the ice pikmin back and carry the blue onion that's dug up back to the level with Oatchi, refreeze the water and use Oatchi and 10 pikmin to get it back across. OR you need to find the hidden treasure by scent tracking with Oatchi.
Pikmin 2 is also mad easy. Enemy killing pikmin? Skill issue cause purpler pikmin, bitter spray and ultra spicy spray exist. To comment the same i said in a different video: Complaining about difficulty in pikmin makes no sense as there is no hard game really. 2 balance is completely busted by purple pikmin and sprays. 1 had no sprays but many still say it was easy to do with one ship part a day motto. 3 idk yet aside from rock pikmin busted supposedly and winged pikmin invalidating blues heavily at least thats what i hear often. In 4 ice pikmin are already super broken and even though they are they don't seem to invalidate other pikmin but instead add a support element to the games that has been sorely lacking for the most part aside from white pikmin sacrifices in 2 from time to time if the enemy could be stunned by the poison. If i had to guess i am gonna love 3 far more than 2 and 1 and 4 alot too because 4's demo took me by complete surprise. Caves are actually fun and designed for once instead of being rng spawnfests with random bs on top of boring combat floors after floor after floor and end up dragging on far too long at the end of the game and also looking very boring aesthetically with not much differences at all for the most part. Submerged castle actually sucks because of rng spawn system for hazards and you btw as it means when the waterwraith shows up it could randomly spawn on all your pikmin and force a reset due to rng bs killing off all your pikmin. The caves in 2 weren't made harder by random object spawns, falling bombs and boulders but instead made even more tedious and painful instead with a large dose of salt. That said they should add some difficulty options like how 3dx has ultra spice and even as someone new to the series i know of this ifficulty as it was advertised for 3dx when 3dx got a trailer. I really dislike auto lock on in 4 for the most part as it discourages motion controls heavily for one and it has no value with gyro aiming as an option if they allowed full gyro control but the other is it makes switching enemies a bit of a pain. I think Dandori is really gonna be what's the largest deal with pikmin 4 and we know there is at least 5 difficulty levels so most of the difficulty gonna be from dandori i feel. Pikmin 4 feels like the devs knew what was wrong with 2 and fixed the issues. Also the overworld is so well done in 4 so far. Coop downgrade is just a bit insulting as they literally could have allowed a second player to be oatchi as oatchi can literally do everything your cac can do with pikmin and carry them.
The fact you think 2 is the best is an embarrassment. The game was piss easy, easier than people claim 3 was, with its only real challenge being trying not to lost Pikmin to instakill traps that come out of nowhere, that you had no real way of properly countering.
So been playing the demo, my first experience really with Pikmin. Although I played like a little chunk of the Pikmin 3 demo. And I have to say, the simple act of commanding an army of Pikmin to carry stuff to your ship is really satisfying. I can definitely see it’s one of those games that is just really satisfying to get even the smallest bit of progression. This is a game that I will definitely be getting.
I absolutely loved the demo. I have a few complaints, and am not sure if it will beat Pikmin 2 for me, but I think it's certainly possible. For everything I didn't like about the demo, there were 10 things I did. No option to turn off autolock? Too easy (so far)? A couple weird un-improvements in Pikmin AI? Who cares when we got onion upgrades, Oatchi's extremely fun controls, upgrades via raw material, upgrades for oatchi, meeting many more characters than usual because of Castaways, the return of caves, better puzzles than past Pikmin games, (mostly) better Pikmin AI, Ice Pikmin being possibly the most fun Pikmin type to date, amazing graphics, actually really interesting story so far, Dandori battles/challenges, a really solid character creator, cool new obstacles, generally better and cleaner UI, buyable items, platforming element... I could go on but this comment is already an eyesore. That's not even covering things we didn't get to try yet, like Night Mode, Glow Pikmin, finding the Doctor and curing those leafy guys, bosses (there were somehow none in the demo), etc, etc, etc This is going to be at least my second favorite Pikmin game. And even if I don't end up liking it as much as Pikmin 2, it'll be _really_ close. And who cares what I think! Objectively speaking, this is shaping up to be undoubtedly the _best_ Pikmin game, even if Pikmin 2 remains my favorite.
One other thing about the Onions being upgradable is that, since our starting Pikmin max count is much lower than the normal 100, it offers a bigger challenge both in terms of combat as well as efficiently collecting all you can because of your limited numbers
I played through the demo twice, the first time doing everything the normal way. I got all the treasure as I found it and completed every cave I came across and then when I hit the 1500 Sparkle stuff which locked me out before I finished exploring. And so I did it a second time, going against everything I stood for and avoided all treasure, only getting castaways. I then explored the entire map and all the caves, even managed to get the 4th pikmin type in the demo. And then when I was satisfied I spent two in game days collecting everything, first day to move everything close to the base and the second day to 100% all the caves and deliver everything. Loved the demo the entire time and am excited for the full release.
I am so happy that Arlo is able to enjoy the Pikmin 4 demo despite the Gameplay and control changes. Its so great seeing someone who waited so long for a game being happy playing it. I myself am enjoying it though I do miss some things from Pikmin 3. I hope most of them will return in the form of upgrades. I miss you, hold-a-to-keep-throwing!
So hear me out, everyone play the demo and buy this game, EVERYONE. I'm talking everyone is here level. Do this to make Arlo, Me, and all of the Pikmin fans happy! (I've played through this Demo 4 times lol. One for every Pikmin game.)
Would love to hear your thoughts on the possible retconning of 2 and 3. personally I'm not a big fan of that aspect and it's a little saddening, there's even a log where Olimar basically says Pikmin 2 was a dream.
People are getting ahead of themselves with that one. Olimar didn't know the reason for his company's bankruptcy - he thought it was a giant space rabbit. The log could just as easily be a tongue in cheek dramatic irony moment, where we the audience know he dreamt of the real reason, but he laughs it off as ludicrous. He still never quite believed Louie was piloting the Titan Dweevil in 2, after all, he underestimates him. It's for sure a HUGE possibility the retcon is still the case, but it isn't 100% yet.
@@moth2120Yeah, I feel that people are just blowing it out of proportion and this is just a direct sequel to 3. There is no reason for Nintendo to retcon the already limited storyline of the franchise.
so many QOL features really irk me, like not being able to throw more pikmin than necessary for a second, or the way the cursour jumps between items, or the way you cant attack a bulborb's eyes in particular anymore. EDIT: also it seems the spotted bulborbs are not likely to attack, out of all the ones i fought, it almost ate 1 pikmin once, but took so long it died. kinda sad there was no boss, but not that big a bummer.
I wasn't originally planning on getting pikmin 4 for myself since I usually just watch people on youtube play pikmin games, but I think the demo might have convinced me to just experience it all for myself first. Such a fun time, even if it's massively simplified from previous games
As someone who's new to this series, I gotta say the amount of hand holding really puts me off. Not enough to not enjoy the game, it's definitely an interesting experience. But the way the opening was set up is so interesting, I feel like the bit with olimar gave me a good idea of how the game worked, and I wish it kinda let up after that. Instead I was dropped in with my little explorer in this massive world and I was so ready to explore and experiment, but instead they cut me off constantly and did or explained everything for me. Heck for a while you can hardly even see cause they leave the controls cluttering up the sides of your screen. Idk I still like the game and look forward to the full version, but the demo left me a little underwhelmed in that regard
I’ve never played Pikmin sadly. Arlo has always made me want to get into the series. I have 3 deluxe, and was going to play it before 4 came out. But now I think I’ll wait for the physical version of 1+2 and play them in order. I’m excited.
I tried the Pikmin 3 demo for Arlo and just didn't click with it, but I tried this one and just immediately fell in love. I also didn't realise that the colour you choose for your suit is the colour of the whole team! I went for bright pink and EVERYTHING is that colour...I've decided to just embrace it 😂😂 I don't usually preorder, but for Arlo, I will!
I want to see the ability to build up a headquarters/town area with pikmin farming, cultivating, building, etc. You need to be able to do more with pikmin than just carry stuff, kill enemies (the same way every time), break barriers, dig up stuff. You need to be able to have the sense of building up your army, your resources, your infrastructure. Most real-time strategy games have as a major part of the gameplay the building up your infrastructure and resources aspect. Pikmin doesn't have that as much. I'd like to see more of that in this series.

And even Oatchi's collar! I loved the little bit of extra polish with that. And I really loved figuring out what dog breeds each new person and/or ship was. Some of them are just obvious, like the Beagle and Shepherd. But some are a little more obscure.
Also the ship and the beagle change color too

'Kingsly' is probably a King Charles Cavalier, in that case!
I love this detail!! It makes sense with how integral Ochie is to the game, and it’s also really cute!
Imagine that the final boss of this game could be a dog-related giant bug. That would be hilarious
Based on Kingsley's Spanish name, Kiness, he's probably named after Pekingese dogs
It would be pretty funny if there were a Fox, since they're closely related to dogs, like a dingo is, or a Wolf.
But yeah, I noticed the dog names & it is so cute 🥰

@@chiquita683Huh?
Miyamoto has always been so “gameplay first, everything else second” that it’s pretty surprising how often Pikmin 4 interrupts you and takes you out of the game with some dialogue. Other than that I think the demo is EXCELLENT
These chatterboxes keep popping up and thank goodness for the message log or I'd never know what half of the popups said.
Please remember you can skip all dialogue and cutscenes with the + button
Most people don't know this and it's really important
I've personally just accepted 4 as an alternate timeline.
I think its just the same timeline but with olimar having crashed again and maybe having either a copycat running around or being taken over by some sort of parasite

Absolutely agree. Some other UA-camrs lack that honest passion. You can just hear it in Arlo’s voice when he loves a game.
When Arlo loves a game, he LOVES a game.
Fun fact: In character creation, the color you choose for your space suit also applies to the color of your ship, the SS.Shepard, your whole crew's suits, the light on top of all of your helmets (and by extension: your whistle), the captains' bandana and Outchi's collar.

It’s so crazy how different this game is while also being so similar. The biggest thing that changed was the progression. In previous titles, the Pikmin types and captains were the only progression but it’s totally different in this game and let’s so many new ideas come about.

There is another castaway in the demo. He gives you the Piklopedia.
The piklopedia is in there and you are given an infinite amount of pikmin that you unlocked only limited by the squad capacity.
If you're wondering, you can see in the big tutorial menu that the piklopedia is explained to be available after finding a certain castaway.
Well said
A shit ton of dialogue is a bad introduction to a game, and a demo is supposed to interested in it to actually buy it.
Play 3, it’s still my fav
2 was by far better than 1 and 3. I was actually pretty disappointed with 3 because it's way shorter than 2 and has overall less stuff to do.
If that's what you're looking for in a Pikmin game though that's fine, it's just not for me though so the game falls flatter than the others for me
Cant believe arlo hasn’t seen death again after all the Pikmin this year.
I miss that duck faced man
I really want to see him do more of the silly skits and things like he'd do in the earlier years, those were the reason I kept coming back.
Personally I like the dialogue it’s charming so I didn’t skip it but I understand
I agree and I hate the dialogue. They are trash and annoying and they take way too much time
SO glad we can skip it. At first..aww cute, that's nice. Then after 15 minutes of yet another dialog..😮 overkill..
I am glad that you can skip it all. I’m here to throw pikmin around to do my chores, not listen to people talking.
The fact that you can 100% the first area in the demo is amazing.
I may have poured a lot of time into the demo
Can we all agree that Oatchi is an absolutely adorable little bean?
For the record the demo allows you to 100% the area. Work it right to get as close to 1500 as you can then finish unlocking everything in the area, then on the last day rush and collect everything, moving the base as you go and empty out the caves.
Yeah I was surprised how far they let me stretch the demo. I managed to get 50% in 5 hours before I complete the goal and couldn't continue. If I have a chance I might start up a new save file and aim for the 100%.
You sir are a genius, I was planning on moving everything to set up for when I got the game, but if I just collect everything in one day I can do it
It made me really happy to realize that you can 100% the area on Day 3 if you go all in on Oatchi's carry strength, and that Miyamoto definitely made it possible on purpose.

I can hear Arlo gush about the greatness of Pikmin all day. That demo was fantastic.

I've been counting down the minutes until Arlo makes a video on this demo because GOD DAMN it overloaded my brain too
This is the first pikmin game where I felt like I was an adventurer discovering stuff and I think 90% of that has to do with how they present the world to the player. The behind the back angle really lends itself to the scale of the world and makes it feel like you’re exploring and discovering new territory.
Here's my first impressions:
Positive
-The game is bursting with charm, from character interactions to animations
-The game is gorgeous
- I love the sizzling floors, it gives reds some utility outside of fighting, or an answer to the uncommon fire hazard.
Negative
-the game treats you like an absolute baby.
Nintendo’s writing has definitely taken a step down since the GameCube era.
to your last point… it feels like you’re playing on regular Earth, not this weirdly unexplained post-apocalyptic Earth… that, and there are just a lot of characters, so it feels less lonely. one of my favorite things about the original _Pikmin_ was reading Olimar’s logs at the end of each day, pining for home.
I 100% agree. The hand-holding and the weird vibes seeing how its obviously just present-day Earth is kinda meh compared to the mystique of the older games.
its just a demo, so lets hope the game gets tougher and less hand holdy, or maybe they bring difficulty modes in the future
I have played only 3 but what I see is 4 is not totally the same in 3 (may including 1 or 2). They change theme from "survive from unknown" to "soldier's operations" (including AI on the ship, this is why they know every tool how to use due to AI, but yeah, kinda non-sense)
They change from RTS game with linear progression, jugging three captains in 3 (compare it to FE Engage) to semi-open world adventure with upgrades and gears in 4 (compate it to BOTW, landmarks are basically towers and caves are basically shrines.)
In term of difficulty, I think since Wii era.
Such a fun demo! Still not sure what to think of the story retcon but overall it was great. Excited for the new release!
Favorite new quality of life feature:
When you whistle to call your pikmin, the ones that arent doing anything come immediately, but the ones carrying treasure will pause to make sure you really wantes to do that.
Sometimes these episodes can be so potent that it lasts us for a minute and we don't need it pumped in every day. Great content, great channel!
I'm really glad you're enjoying it so far!! I look forward to playing Pikmin 4 and the hype is contagious- never played a regular full Pikmin game before this!!
I'm approaching this series for the first time and I feel like I'm getting more and more caught in the Pikmin fever😂❤
I'm not a Pikmin fan, I never played Pikmin, I'm not sure I even ever plan to play a Pikmin game... But it does look super awesome, and I'm extremely happy for all of the fans that this game means so much to, and I'm here to support my man Arlo!
Fun Fact for you:
You can get blue pikmin in the demo!
@@andrewstoner2032I did it the exact same way. Frustrating at first but ultimately felt really great to get that blue onion.
Happy for u Arlo! Never played the series but i plan to pick up 1-4 cause i always wanted to play em and now.... EVERYONE IS HERE
Throwing used to feel like a mechanic. Now it just feels like a Quick Time Event. "QoL" to some is just oversimplification for others
👆🏻ʜɪᴛ ᴍᴇ ᴜᴘ 👆🏻ᴏɴ ᴛᴇʟᴇɢʀᴀᴍ ɪ ɢᴏᴛ sᴏᴍᴇᴛʜɪɴɢ sᴘᴇᴄɪᴀʟ ғᴏʀ ʏᴏᴜ🎁,,
what a beautiful story. i'm so glad pikmin is finally getting its time to shine
I agree it should get harder but ngl I never beat pikmin 3 because it was too hard
Did you forget the potato? A lot of people seem to have forgotten the potato (including me)
So been playing the demo, my first experience really with Pikmin.
That's not even covering things we didn't get to try yet, like Night Mode, Glow Pikmin, finding the Doctor and curing those leafy guys, bosses (there were somehow none in the demo), etc, etc, etc
This is going to be at least my second favorite Pikmin game. And even if I don't end up liking it as much as Pikmin 2, it'll be _really_ close. And who cares what I think! Objectively speaking, this is shaping up to be undoubtedly the _best_ Pikmin game, even if Pikmin 2 remains my favorite.
It blows my mind looking at this footage and seeing places that are totally new. That demo was so big! And i assume there are 2-3 more environments??
Try Story and Mission modes alone or with a friend on the same system. You can carry over your progress to the full game, once purchased.
One other thing about the Onions being upgradable is that, since our starting Pikmin max count is much lower than the normal 100, it offers a bigger challenge both in terms of combat as well as efficiently collecting all you can because of your limited numbers
Arlo talking about pikmin 4 as if hes describing his favorite food dish will never not put a smile on my face.
Fine Arlo, your infectious love for this franchise has convinced me to buy the game lol
I am so happy that Arlo is able to enjoy the Pikmin 4 demo despite the Gameplay and control changes. Its so great seeing someone who waited so long for a game being happy playing it.
I myself am enjoying it though I do miss some things from Pikmin 3. I hope most of them
will return in the form of upgrades.
I miss you, hold-a-to-keep-throwing!
It's a good year to be a big Pikmin fan, and I'm so happy to see so many new people enjoying the games on switch!!
So hear me out, everyone play the demo and buy this game, EVERYONE. I'm talking everyone is here level. Do this to make Arlo, Me, and all of the Pikmin fans happy!
(I've played through this Demo 4 times lol. One for every Pikmin game.)
Love all the content and stream VODS!! I dont usually have time to catch them live so i love getting a chance to watch anytime
I think it’s weird how everyone is assuming this is a retcon instead of just Zelda-style Timelines.
Could be a soft reboot of 1, with 2 and 3 still existing in the timeline
so many QOL features really irk me, like not being able to throw more pikmin than necessary for a second, or the way the cursour jumps between items, or the way you cant attack a bulborb's eyes in particular anymore.
EDIT: also it seems the spotted bulborbs are not likely to attack, out of all the ones i fought, it almost ate 1 pikmin once, but took so long it died. kinda sad there was no boss, but not that big a bummer.
It's a great time to be a Pikmin fan.
Yep
Play Pikmin 1, it gives you some controls every time something new comes up but after like day 6 it just leaves you on your own lol
I’ve never played Pikmin sadly. Arlo has always made me want to get into the series. I have 3 deluxe, and was going to play it before 4 came out. But now I think I’ll wait for the physical version of 1+2 and play them in order. I’m excited.
I'm gonna come out and say it: Olimar sounds like a gigachad.
If Arlo doesn't receive a review copy of Pikmin 4, we riot.
This is mindblowing. There's so many ways to complete this demo, I beat the demo without seeing a single Dandori battle
Arlo and pikmin is the best match ever
I watched Arlo stream the demo and it was so fun to get his thoughts live. He was soo happy 😂
The first Pikmin is the best in the series
It is just so short! (It also shows its age with the controls.)
@@WarningStrangerDangerThe jank is what makes it so good. I just love replaying it almost every year.
The streamlining scares me. Pikmin never needed it. I like the need for precision and the chaos and death that can occur when I mess up.
I enjoyed the demo a lot yesterday! I'm looking forward to playing the full game!
