@Mystical Pipes Well, yes, but like most of the vocal reactors, she tends to prefer to see and hear the live versions that best represent the voice, wherever possible, so as to see their technique and hear their true voice. Studio versions often have too many studio tricks, hiding the true voice. I agree, Unleashed is a fantastic version, but is there a live video version of that? If there is, I would love to see it! :)
@Mystical Pipes For sure, you are most certainly correct about that! I love the early footage of them. So cool! Of course, much of that is pre-recorded tv performances, as was the practice of the day, but sometimes you get pre-recorded music with live vocals, or rarer still, real full live concert footage, of decent quality..
My first experience with priest was 3 days after listening to whatever was left of gun's and roses in the early 2000s. I was so disappointed after listening to Axl (I was very young and didn't know much), that was probably 40 or something at the time, that I was wondering what to expect from Halford. My expectations where ridiculously low at that point for a guy that was pushing 60. I was first row, right in front of KK's area. It was the best live performance I've ever witnessed. Ridiculously good. I saw him 3 times more, and next time tomorrow. Never disappointed.
One of my all time favorite metal bands and vocalists. A great live song to check out is Victim of Changes from 1982 in Memphis, TN. Another great example of his vocal range.
Dreamer Deceiver is also an excellent showcase of his voice, letting you hear both his intensity but also his more breathy and soft singing all in one song
Not only is Rob Halford one of the all time greatest singers. He’s also one of the nicest people on the planet. Was fortunate enough to meet him during the Painkiller album cycle. Such a salt-of-the-earth guy.
I took my son and daughter in law to see Judas Priest in Vegas 3 years ago and when they did "Halls of Valhalla", Rob Halford's voice stunned everyone on how amazing it was. Literally everyone just stood there in amazement. I first saw Judas Priest in 83 at the US Festival and almost 40 years later, Halford was still blowing people's mind with his incredible voice. Even people I know that hate metal praise him.
His range at his peak was absolutely astonishing…and bear in mind he’s in the same exalted company as Ian Gillan, Ronnie James Dio, Robert Plant and more!
One of his biggest talents isn't just his fairly massive range, but that ability to instantly go to a super high wail from anywhere in his range. There is zero transition if he wants to skip it. Just hanging out in the middle, then wham, it's like a guitar bend almost.
Rob Has a range that is hard to actually.believe. there's a reason he's so well loved in metal, not just for how talented all of Priest is(they are) but because of how much their music can bring folks in to metal. I'd highly recommend if you're curious two songs, their cover of Diamonds and Rust, and my personal favorite of their songs, Electric Eye. Both are great places to see what I mean about Judas Priest being a great spot for folks to come in to Priest. Having SEEN Judas Priest live in 2022, he STILL is impressive today. Man did this song at the end of an hour long set, and I was shocked the drummer didn't damn well die.
Between the three of them, they basically inspired the vocal stylings for power metal. Which in itself is an incredible genre and shows what they all brought to the world of music.
Rob Halford is my favorite singer. I got into Judas Priest when I was 14. I'm almost 46 now and I still love it, especially because of that magnificent voice 😊

After he left Judas Priest he formed Halford which was a tpreturn to Metal for him.look up Halford live in Aneheim California and enjoy. I have been a fan for over 40 yrs and even in his 70’s now he is amazing.
It is almost like Rob Halford has somewhere between 3 and 5 voices or modes he sings in. He truly is and always has been an amazing singer. The amazing thing is that he smoked cigarettes for years and had a crappy diet. About 10 ir so years ago, he stopped smoking and started eating better, and his voice became stronger. He is 70 years old and still out there killing it. Thanks for the reaction / review video.
Not 5 octaves. Different modes or tones that he uses. He can instantly switch between a high voice with a lot of grit to a low and clean voice and shift right back. He's developed a great global compression. I don't know what type of training he's had, but it's obvious he's had some type of training in order to have lasted this long.

Painkiller was a "comeback" album by Priest, that probably saved their reputation at one of the world's first proper heavy metal bands, as well as their future in what would soon become a difficult time for metal. It's easily their most relentlessly aggressive album, securing their position after a drift into lighter, more commercial territory through the 80s. Rob's influence on metal vocalists, and the band's on metal in general is immeasurable.
So awesome to see you analyze Halford. He’s kind of the one in a million exception. Everyone who learned to do this healthily?, owes it to him, but he actually originated his sound from being required to scream over Top of the band thru the PA, in the early/mid 70s when “monitors” were still an underdeveloped technology

Yeah I'm an old metalhead fan of Judas Priest from back in the day. This was a good video. Glad to see Rob getting the recognition from the non metal community for his vocal skills. Thanks.
if you are impressed by him from the late 80's and 90's you should listen to the live album unleashed in the east from 1979 and you can hear him live in his prime and your minds will be blown! he hits notes that you would consider impossible and his voice was smooth and less raspy. judas priest has been one of my favorite bands since the 70's and they to this day have yet to disappoint. iron maiden is another band with an amazing vocalist bruce dickinson... another of my favorites since they first hit in 1980.
As a long time Halford fan I suggest "Here Come The Tears" into "Dissident Aggressor" from Sin After Sin, really illustrates his full vocal abilities and range
Hear come the tears - gorgeous, one of my all time favorites from JP, not only because of Rob’s vocals but also because of the intensely of the band as a whole!!

Basically all of those bands cite Priest as a tremendous influence. Dissident Aggressor has become the predominantly recognized progenitor of several sub-genres.
Love the cut in's because in one video you capture as much as anyone can. I have Rob at the top over everyone because metal allows everything from A to Z and he can do A to Z like no one else.
Thank you both for being open to hearing heavy metal music!!! Rob is who "we" all call the MG! Metal God! Go find Victim Of Changes from 84' . Its a live showcase of his talent!
ive loved judas priest since i was a kid in the early 80s, but my favorite rob halford performance has to be the super group bullring brummies, singing a cover of the wizard on a black sabbath tribute album
He's not trained. Dio, Bruce and Eric Adams are better. They're the top 4, imo, Rob's lack of teaching is his only drawback (E.G. Pushed lows, strained highs)
the irony of this song is that even in 1990 it was absolutely Rob pushing himself to the very limits of his ability, to the point he injured his voice either in the studio or on tour. The band still perform the song to this day but Rob doesn't even _dare_ try to sing it like the studio version, especially as he gets older.
I'm always up for seeing the delight on someone's face when they hear Rob's range and prowess. Gives a warm feeling that one of my favorite all time bands is honestly appreciated by yet another generation.
Check out Blood Red Skies for both spectrums of Rob's vocals at his best (studio preferred). Other artists to check out: Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name live at Hammersmith, Queensryche - Take Hold of the Flame, live in Tokyo, & Steelheart - She's Gone (studio or live. The earlier, the better). These are all magical performances.
An underrated vocalist you guys should listen to is warrel dane from the band sanctuary. His voice has a lot of versatility I'd recommend the songs die for my sins, battle angels, future tense, or seasons of destruction. First 2 songs and last 2 songs are from different albums
one of the 2,3 best in his two first albums. amazing, animal, incredible, awesome. warrell dane is one of the best only for two albums. but them i don´t like the way that he sings. and i think that he can´t as the time goes by.....but a supervoice in everyway
They asked Luciano Pavarotti who is the best Male vocalists of the century. Without hesitation he said, "Rob Halford". You guys want a song that will blow your hair back? Play the album version of Blood Red Skies of Ram it Down. He is on another planet.
Halford is a metal God!!!... Definitely check out Queensryche " Take Hold of the Flame " live in Tokyo... "Sister Mary" or " I Will Remember "... another vocal God Geoff Tate.
@@gregdavidson4374 . I only saw Queensryche live once (in the mid '90's during their Promised Land tour) and I gotta say, Geoff was magnificent (as were the whole band) so I can't speak to consistency. Cheers!
Who knows Judas Priest well and is just discovering these reaction videos and getting a big kick out of people hearing PAINKILLER for the first time? 😁😁 I last saw Priest in 08.
I really enjoyed your reaction. Judas Priest is one of my all time favourite bands and Rob Halford is one of my all time favourite singers. There are some amazing Heavy Metal singers out there that don’t get the recognition that they truly deserve. If you’re going to go down this rabbit hole, I highly recommend Iron Maiden with Bruce Dickinson, Queensryche with Geoff Tate, Helloween with Michael Kiske, Metal Church with Mike Howe and Rainbow with Ronnie James Dio. I look forward to watching more of your videos. Take care 😊
Every Judas Priest album is it’s very own experience. Rob Halford has an amazing range. This guy is second to none. Painkiller which is a great song and album is only a glimpse at this guy’s amazing voice.😉
Even though I love Painkiller like every Priest fan, if you really want to hear Rob's best vocal performances you need to listen to Victim of Changes (live ideally) or Riding on the Wind (live)
You should watch a recent live video of him singing this song. Its 30 years old and he is in his 70's and still nailing it. That's why they are the metal gods . Metal gods is a 40 year old song and his lower range is just as spectacular!!
Both of his books in the last few years are fabulous. His journey toward being a very natural ambassador of the LGBTQ community speaks volumes to his perseverance. His voice is the undisputed champion of the genre, and as you might expect his narration of his first book is a genuine pleasure beyond the literary content because his voice is simply lovely. I've been fortunate to see them live many, many times spanning 39 years.
Definitely need to watch Dio, his cover of mistreated is one of my favorites, but I don't think there are any that of his songs that aren't great. Another great singer to check out is Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden.
If you've not heard Bruce Dickenson of Iron Maiden then that would seem like you'd be more than pleasantly surprised. Ronnie James Dio is Also incredible and probably not what you'd expect.
Bruce is the most boring guy to listen in this kinds of video, just standard classical training, a good range but nothing you cant find in standard music.
@@homerc9101 ive never read something so ridiculous in my life! You've obviously never watched a Bruce Dickinson reaction video if thats what you believe, and Bruce hasn't had any classical training which makes his vocals even more interesting, not less!
Judas Priest is a band of so many faces and facets after more than 50 years of their career. Painkiller is one the extreme end of the spectrum, a very different performance than something like Desert Plains from the Point of Entry album. Rob Halford has so many voices - enjoy them whaen you get there 🙂
Lovely reaction! Speaking of lovely, you should introduce yourself to Tatiana Schmuyluk of the Ukrainian band, Jinger. It's traditional to start with Pisces. I also recommend Ronnie James Dio. Vocal coaches seem to fall in love with him.
If you're interested in other amazing Metal Vocalists with fantastic technique you can't go wrong with. 1. The 80's live version of Hallowed Be Thy Name by Iron Maiden 2. Sleepless Nights - Live at The Fillmore by King Diamond Both highlight the absolutely stunning range of these singers, and the story telling they employ in their lyrics.
If you think Rob Halford sings high... check out King Diamond (Sleepless Nights live at the Filmore is a popular song people react to).. King Diamond's voice is operatic... Extreme highs and deep growls.. If you grab a random song, don't expect it to make much sense.. His albums are almost concept albums that tell a horror story over 5-18 songs.. and like Rob Halford, King Diamond is approaching 70 and singing better now than in the 1980s and 90s!
I'll add a +1 to the recommendation of listening to their song, Victim of Changes. I personally would recommend the live version from the album, Unleashed in the East.
If you want to listen to sone very old priest check out the song Dreamer Deceiver and you will see an entirely different Rob Halford. I absolutely love his singing.
I saw Judas Priest a couple of years ago, and he hit those notes in "Painkiller." Hit them and held them. It was like that when I saw JP for the first time over four decades ago, and when I saw them a couple of years ago, and every time in between. He's superhuman.
Halford is a beast! I saw the Priest first in 82 and last in 2022 and Rob has been the concomitant vocalist throughout all these years in live performances. He’s without question one of the all time best vocalist!
Yup, Rob is our metal god! He's been doing this since the early 70'es and still today his voice are still strong and among the best. But in the late 70'es and early 80'es he was untouchable. I'll recomend two live performances. The song "Sinner" live in 1982 and "Dreamer / Deciever" live in 1974.
i saw Rob in the 70's.. and recently... it's ASTONISHING how little he has lost from his voice at now 73... let me say that again... he is STILL out there ripping it up at 73.. METALGOD ..there is only one
Rob Halford is still going strong at over 70 years old.
Yup seen him live last year and he was killing it. Needs some more breaks, but with 71 it was still best show that year

Love the cut in's because in one video you capture as much as anyone can. I have Rob at the top over everyone because metal allows everything from A to Z and he can do A to Z like no one else.
Easily one of my favorite singers of all time. Halford is both awesome and unique.
Muy grandes JUDAS PRIEST...!!!
Thank you both for being open to hearing heavy metal music!!! Rob is who "we" all call the MG! Metal God! Go find Victim Of Changes from 84' . Its a live showcase of his talent!
83 US festival
ive loved judas priest since i was a kid in the early 80s, but my favorite rob halford performance has to be the super group bullring brummies, singing a cover of the wizard on a black sabbath tribute album
He is a trained vocalist that has perfected his voice better than any other metal singer.
He's not trained. Dio, Bruce and Eric Adams are better. They're the top 4, imo, Rob's lack of teaching is his only drawback (E.G. Pushed lows, strained highs)
@@StaticYonderhahahahah
@@eduardomarques5756 Its true
@@StaticYonder Dio, that raspy danging voice, nah, if you say so,^^
the irony of this song is that even in 1990 it was absolutely Rob pushing himself to the very limits of his ability, to the point he injured his voice either in the studio or on tour. The band still perform the song to this day but Rob doesn't even _dare_ try to sing it like the studio version, especially as he gets older.
Excellent... Victim of changes live is an insane vocal performance. Tatiana from jinjer is amust!
These are all magical performances.
the live video of painkiller at 6:20 mark was recorded when Rob had his voice fried to the crisp.
An underrated vocalist you guys should listen to is warrel dane from the band sanctuary. His voice has a lot of versatility I'd recommend the songs die for my sins, battle angels, future tense, or seasons of destruction. First 2 songs and last 2 songs are from different albums
their cover of white rabbit, truly amazing!
one of the 2,3 best in his two first albums. amazing, animal, incredible, awesome. warrell dane is one of the best only for two albums.
but them i don´t like the way that he sings. and i think that he can´t as the time goes by.....but a supervoice in everyway
Eh his voice was always hit or miss for me, his falsetto and very heady mix is always a miss for me.
@Mike Phillips. Agreed, Halford is a true pioneer and an absolute legend...but Geoff Tate at his peak is just next level. Cheers!
@@phillipevans9414 I don’t think Tate was as consistent live but I would say the Take Hold of the Flame was the greatest live vocals I have ever heard
Rob is considered as the Metal God. He's an amazing singer 🤘
Also saw them live in 1985 my clothes vibrated on my body and I could not hear for 3 days after the concert..
I love Judas Priest.
You should listen to Ronnie James Dio. He had a great voice. Man on the Silver Mountain is a good one to start with.
Definitely need to watch Dio, his cover of mistreated is one of my favorites, but I don't think there are any that of his songs that aren't great. Another great singer to check out is Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden.
DIO is the one if the greatest voices in rock history. Period
Rob Halford is and was one of the greatest of all time
If you've not heard Bruce Dickenson of Iron Maiden then that would seem like you'd be more than pleasantly surprised.
Up the Irons!!
The best reaction so far
Hi! Please give desert plains judas priest live a listen! His voice was at it's peak. Greetings from Holland
Judas Priest is a band of so many faces and facets after more than 50 years of their career. Painkiller is one the extreme end of the spectrum, a very different performance than something like Desert Plains from the Point of Entry album. Rob Halford has so many voices - enjoy them whaen you get there 🙂
HALFORD just had his 77th BIRTHDAY PLEASE DON'T BE TO HARD ON HIM!!!!😢😢😢😢😢
I believe it's 72
Lovely reaction! Speaking of lovely, you should introduce yourself to Tatiana Schmuyluk of the Ukrainian band, Jinger. It's traditional to start with Pisces. I also recommend Ronnie James Dio. Vocal coaches seem to fall in love with him.
I would second that. Pisces with the live comparison of Perennial - Live at Wacken.
Tatiana is a wonder of the modern world.
Been doing this for 50 plus years..... the true METAL GOD!!!
If you're interested in other amazing Metal Vocalists with fantastic technique you can't go wrong with.
1. The 80's live version of Hallowed Be Thy Name by Iron Maiden
2. Sleepless Nights - Live at The Fillmore by King Diamond
Both highlight the absolutely stunning range of these singers, and the story telling they employ in their lyrics.
Halford's voice is so powerful, he's been known to blow out mic ribbons. Fact!
If you wanna hear Rob Halford singing awesome the song “angel” from the album angel of retribution!
Listin to Dreamer , Deciever back in the day
I'll add a +1 to the recommendation of listening to their song, Victim of Changes. I personally would recommend the live version from the album, Unleashed in the East.
Lisa, where did you go? You are missed!
Hi. I watched Judas Priest in December 2022 here in Brasil and I can attest that Rob Halford is still kicking asses live after 50 years career! =)
If you want to listen to sone very old priest check out the song Dreamer Deceiver and you will see an entirely different Rob Halford. I absolutely love his singing.
You have to listen to victim of changes from the 70s. A classic
The sentinel for you girls!
People call Rob the metal God but they know they are JP and sing for the Metal God!
I saw Judas Priest a couple of years ago, and he hit those notes in "Painkiller." Hit them and held them. It was like that when I saw JP for the first time over four decades ago, and when I saw them a couple of years ago, and every time in between. He's superhuman.
Check out Dreamer deceiver, deceiver , a young Rob halford live at the BBC , shows his full vocal range
Halford is a beast! I saw the Priest first in 82 and last in 2022 and Rob has been the concomitant vocalist throughout all these years in live performances. He’s without question one of the all time best vocalist!
Yes, Yes...Rob Halford is THE utimate Metal voice..dude is aged but still dropping those Nuclear Vocal Bombs all over the world!!!!
I like the blonde women. I like her enthusiasm and the way she explain things.
100% metal god, there will never be another
My very favorite metal singer. He's opera trained! Unbelievably powerful Live. Sang for 2 hours straight. He truly IS a Rock God!
The Metal God - A living legend.💗🔥🤘
The isolated vocal track is on youtube and it's amazing. For a better example of his range, check out "Victim Of Changes live US Fest 83".
i saw Rob in the 70's.. and recently... it's ASTONISHING how little he has lost from his voice at now 73... let me say that again... he is STILL out there ripping it up at 73.. METALGOD ..there is only one
Show her something from Rob, s 70,s.
Victim Of Changes.... you will hear all of Rob Halford 🤯🤩❤️
Check out Blood Red Skies, Beyond The Realms of Death, Victim Of Changes by Judas Priest
