The best part of this is that they were already at the age where most bands are retiring when they decided to release the heaviest thing they ever did.

KK Downing and Glenn Tipton have for over 45 years been regarded by everyone in the community as one of the top 2 guitar duos ever alongside Dave Murray and Adrian Smith of Iron Maiden!!!!🤘🤘
@@randywissler9923 yes indeed. Iron Maiden used to open for Judas Priest way back in the day. Smith & Murray are fantastic individual guitarists, but Glenn & KK were so in synch with one another that they could switch off leads in the middle of a solo without missing a beat! They were like a four-armed, two-headed metal machine!

The 90´s: Metal is dead Judas Priest: Hold my beer...
Megadeths best came out in the 90's. Anthrax's also. Pantera hit hard in the 90's. Iron Maiden had so great stuff. Metalica Black album. Some of Ozzy's heaviest stuff was in the 90's. You need to shift a decade up. Around 2000 is when it really fizzled out
The lyrics tell the story of the Painkiller, the character featured on the cover of the album, who is a cyborg superhero who saves mankind from destruction. "Painkiller" has become one of Judas Priest's most popular songs
You're 100% on the money with the lyrics. The Painkiller is pretty much a metal superhero. He's on the cover of the album. Like a Chrome Angel riding a dragon motorcycle with buzzsaw blades for wheels 😂
This is Heavy Metal. This one starts like a Sledgehammer to the head then you get brought back to life and get the Sledgehammer again , but harder. Love it , never gets old.
Hey there man! You bet that Judas Priest are still around, and better yet: they’re still insanely popular. Their two most recent albums were both #1 in the charts all over the world - not sure how they did in the US, but I think they did pretty well there too. Their album ”Invincible shield” actually came out in the spring of 2024 so it’s still new, and if you check out the lead single ”Panic attack” you’ll find out that they’re still doing it the ”Painkiller” way after all these years - and well! Lyricswise you don’t have to worry about these guys. Some of their titles may look suspicious at first glance, but on further investigation, you’ll always find that it’s just Rob Halford being clever and making you work a little to get the actual message. Unless the lyrics are just about the joy of being part of the heavy metal community - he’s written his fair share of those too. Some of my favorite lyrics of his include ”Savage” - about the cruelty of conquering and enslaving indigenous tribes - and ”Electric eye”, that’s about actually being a spy satellite gathering all of our secrets without us even noticing. This guy is not just a good singer, he’s got a way with words too. Yeah, that court case you mentioned … Here’s what happened. In 1985, two young guys from Nevada, Raymond Belknap and James Vance, shot themselves. The former died, the latter was horribly disfigured and died years later. They both had psychological issues, had substance problems and came from real dysfunctional families - poor guys. But their families insisted that the real reason for them shooting themselves, was that they had just been listening to Judas Priest’s 1978 ”Stained class” album. The original claim was that the song ”Heroes end” encouraged suicide - which only a brief glance at the lyrics showed was not the case. The claim that eventually made it to court, was that the words ” do it” could be heard if you played one of the other songs BACKWARDS. Even crazier, that song was not even a Judas Priest original. It was ”Better by you better than me”, a cover of a 1969 song by one of the early British heavy metal pioneers Spooky Tooth. So the case, after it finally ending up in court in 1990, was dropped after six weeks. "It tore us up emotionally hearing someone say to the judge and the cameras that this is a band that creates music that kills young people," Halford admitted later. "We accept that some people don’t like heavy metal, but we can’t let them convince us that it’s negative and destructive. Heavy metal is a friend that gives people great pleasure and enjoyment and helps them through hard times."

Their 1st album was released in 1974, while this is from 1990. Their older stuff is more hard rock than metal. They wanted to compose the most "Metal" song possible, and they succeeded!

Scott Travis on the drums, from a band called Racer X. Monster band... Scarified is a great instrumental... They do a Priest song called Heart Of A Lion also
One of the greatest metal songs ever written, and a staple of their live shows. Saw them at the Tons of Rock Festival in Olso, Norway this year and it was one of the most epic things I had seen since I saw them at Download in 2019! 🤪🇦🇺🤘
Anyone and everyone I knew in the 80's that loved metal, Judas Priest was in their lineup. Along with DIO, Iron Maiden, Motorhead and many others. Even if you were mainly into Thrash Metal, they were still beloved.
This is a classic Priest song also featured on Guitar Hero that most people couldn't play. K.K. Downing and Glenn Tipton are regarded as one if not the most talented guitarists in the world. They are a huge influence on players today. They've been at it for more 50+years. The same could be said about singer Rob Halford. I saw them last year and he's still belting out these notes. He has a 5 octave range and also has a beautiful soulful voice on some of their ballads. As for the song itself, it's about a soldier that's nicknamed Painkiller and takes drugs to be able to deal with the horrors of wars. So yeah, once again Metal guys tackle issues that not of people want to. In this case, possible PTSD but 30 years ago when it wasn't even talked about. That's why at 55 I still a Metal fan because most bands do take on the ugly side of society. Hell, Dave Mustaine of Megadeth sang about Holy Wars in the Middle East and a conflict with Israel in the 80's! There's a lot in common between Hip Hop & Rap / Metal when it comes to tackling social issues. If you can find Rob Halford testifying at that trial on UA-cam it's absolutely beautiful. The man is articulate, intelligent and so empathetic towards the family of that young man. That trial nearly destroyed him. Powerful stuff. FYI K.K. Downing left the band years ago and sadly Glenn Tipton has been battling dementia I believe, preventing him from touring. They've just released a new album and are touring the world again with other guitarists, although they've already recorded a few albums with them and even Tipton played on a few songs as well. Lastly, you'll get a kick out of this one: Rob Halford, singer, is gay. He came out about 20 some years ago. He was afraid that Metalheads would judge him. I'm sure he had a few nasty comments, but again, the Metal community proved to be a lot more tolerant and accepting than most other genres of music.
This is probably their most extreme song, and they had been popular for a decade and a half by then. They were one of the original true metal bands, and their music has changed constantly. Should check out Victim of Changes live to see another side of them.
I think the song is very meta. It's about metal itself (about how people use heavy and intense music to cure themselves of their angst and inner demons) So the metal genre is the superhero to those struggling with frustration and bieng able to vent by listening or even playing the music.
Painkiller was an ultra-metal song released in the early 90's basically to show the fans that metal wasn't dead yet. Their best period was mid to late 70's. Victim of changes was a killer track from their second album in 1976, but their true masterpiece was a song called "Beyond the realms of death" which i still believe was one of the greatest metal songs ever written.
You are not alone in that belief. The first time I heard that song lasted two days. Still not done hearing it. RIp my poor casette player for all that rewinding.
My dad used to play them in his truck when I was growing up in the 90s but he had a really weird playlist where it would go from Judas priest to Nirvana, to Eddie Brickell
I seen them at OzFest in Kansas City in 2003. They put on a hell of a show. Then Black Sabbath came out. One of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. And I’ve seen a lot of bands
Your other JP reaction was one of their first.theyve evolved through the decades.. you don't know the more popular Judas Priest songs like You Got Another Thing Coming or Livin After Midnight.. Then there's Victim of Changes, Diamonds and Rust, Electric Eye the Rage and more!! ELECTRIC EYE next please! You will love
FIRST TIME I HEARD IT I COULDN'T BELIEVE MY EARS.. WHEN I LISTEN TO PAINKILLER I PUT ON MY HEADPHONES AND TURN IT UP AS LOUD AS I CAN. I LOVE A GOOD SCREAMING GUITAR ❤
I always had a theory that the Painkiller was actually the angel from the Sad Wings of Destiny album cover. They both where the same cross emblem that has become synonymous with Judas Priest🤘🔥
This is the original lineup. Dave Holland had to be about 60 when the guy played the drums on this track. 3 years ago he blasted this same track live before my eyes. And ears.
I've not seen these in forever I forget they even existed. Thank you for the reminder 😂 I'm in a lounge in qatar, wearing a pub head hoodie 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 ❤❤❤❤❤
Rather relentless, ain't it? And it was utterly incredible when they did it live on the Painkiller tour - the entire venue was filled with white strobes and it was like we were IN the video. Rob has said this is by far the hardest song to sing he's ever done, and having seen it live many times, I can easily believe it. One thought on the drummer, Scott Travis - he had just joined the band, and this song was his intro to us fans. What a way to make an entrance, right?!?
I've seen them in concert 2 times the Turbo Lover tour and Ram it Down tour! Love them, amazing in concert! Had a blast! Love alot of their songs but You've Got Another Thing Coming is one of my favorites! The reactors always do this song because of the screams etc but they have alot of great songs! Screaming for Vengeance, Turbo Lover, Victim of Changes and Diamonds and Rust! Love them! Lead singer Rob Halfords voice is amazing!
When they added Scott Travis as the new drummer on this release, this took Judas Priest to a new level. Sure, the older stuff was great and will always be classics, but Painkiller and forward is my personal favorite material. oh, and Rob certainly loves the leather...how did we all not see "it" back in the day. "Ram it Down", "Point of Entry", "Turbo Lover", "Hard as Iron"...it was so obvious 😂
This transcends subgenres of metal. This is 1000 proof pure distilled metal. If an alien arrived on earth and asked me what metal was, I would show them this video. It’s so fucking metal it borders on the absurd, in the best way possible. THIS IS METAL. Also you got it 100% on the superhero. Judas Priest loves that kind of shit with these fictional/mythic kinds of hyperbolic metal imagery. It’s fucking great and hilarious and badass all at once. Totally over the top. And that’s metal as fuck.
Good old NWOBHM... the New Wave of British Heavy Metal that evolved out of the ashes of early "heavy metal" and was mastheaded by Judas Priest alongside Iron Maiden, Samson, and Diamondhead. A new sound that invigorated the metal scene in the UK in the 80s. Not everyone goes this hard or has the singer's range, but this movement set the scene for the entirety of modern metal going forward.
Thank Goodness that this was not Your First Judas Priest song! It would have melted Your ears off...lol! One of the Heaviest Songs of All Time. Do Yourself a favor and listen to Turbo Lover by Judas Priest next. It grooves, B.P., and I can sing it! Keep up the great work!
You're about to embark on a rabbit hole when it comes to metal and all it's sub genres. Brace yourself cause it get heavier and a lot faster, depending on the direction you go. Have fun good luck and enjoy. Good review btw 🤘🤘🤘
I assure you, all of us metalheads reacted with shock and awe too when we herd this for the first time. Many of us still do react like that at the 1000th time. This is to me the very best heavy metal album. One of those rare albums that don't have filler, no need to skip a track. And yes, the Painkiller dude, just google the album cover and you will see who it is. No hidden meaning.
After they came out with more commercial stuff like Turbo Lover, they were called soft, etc. so JP proved the world wrong and shocked everyone. This kicks ass.
Young man they're still out touring Rob halford and his mid-70s sounds great they have a album that came out this year called invincible shield check out panic attack for one the entire new album is all Kick-Ass melt your face off rip your nuts off Kick-Ass heavy metal you know the thrash metal bands that are out they all say Judas Priest when they were growing up was like an inspiration to them
You actually nailed this one. They create dark heroes and mythical beings, among other sometimes deeper themes. My favorite in this vein is Sentinel, who allows himself to be surrounded by assailants so he can throw his knives in any direction and score a hit. Nobody comes away with a lesson because nobody gets away. For a completely different side of this group, check out Epitaph. The look on your face will be priceless.

I STILL get full on body goose bumps hearing this song!!!
Out of all of the Judas priest albums I own or have heard this album is by far one of my favorite. All guns blazing
This is probably their most extreme song, and they had been popular for a decade and a half by then. They were one of the original true metal bands, and their music has changed constantly. Should check out Victim of Changes live to see another side of them.
I think the song is very meta. It's about metal itself (about how people use heavy and intense music to cure themselves of their angst and inner demons)
So the metal genre is the superhero to those struggling with frustration and bieng able to vent by listening or even playing the music.
I saw Judas Priest end of September and they were awesome! One of the best shows of that festival for me.
one of the best metal songs ever released and there best album imo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd almost forgotten how fun Painkiller reactions were :D
Seen them on the Painkiller tour years ago with Megadeth as an opener! It was even wilder live!
Crazy show!
Awesome song choice!
This was the first song with a new drummer. So they showcased the drummers talent and brought the "pain"!
Scott Travis (drummer) was a new member of the band when they recorded this album
This, sir, is simply Heavy Metal. No sub-genre just heavy metal. It's that simple.
Yes they're still together and just put out an album last year or earlier this year
this year! And its amazing
March 2024.
My dad used to play them in his truck when I was growing up in the 90s but he had a really weird playlist where it would go from Judas priest to Nirvana, to Eddie Brickell
I just saw them in concert a few months ago, pure metal goodness!
Crazy times... When this came out Grunge was just about to take over.
You're definitely nailing this as the first time listen😊
I seen them at OzFest in Kansas City in 2003. They put on a hell of a show. Then Black Sabbath came out. One of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. And I’ve seen a lot of bands
Your other JP reaction was one of their first.theyve evolved through the decades.. you don't know the more popular Judas Priest songs like You Got Another Thing Coming or Livin After Midnight.. Then there's Victim of Changes, Diamonds and Rust, Electric Eye the Rage and more!! ELECTRIC EYE next please! You will love
One of those rare tunes I'll NEVER get sick of hearing... It's pure perfection for it's genre... One of the coolest pieces of music ever... 🤟🤟
Thank you for the reminder 😂
I'm in a lounge in qatar, wearing a pub head hoodie 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 ❤❤❤❤❤
Please react to - Waitin' 'Round to Die' - Song by Whitey Morgan and the 78's
Rather relentless, ain't it? And it was utterly incredible when they did it live on the Painkiller tour - the entire venue was filled with white strobes and it was like we were IN the video.
Rob has said this is by far the hardest song to sing he's ever done, and having seen it live many times, I can easily believe it. One thought on the drummer, Scott Travis - he had just joined the band, and this song was his intro to us fans. What a way to make an entrance, right?!?
'The Sentinel' next
And Judas Priest came before Iron Maiden and the other band you mentioned.
Yep , IronMaiden opened for Priest
I saw them live for the first time this year. They were great even though they're getting fairly old, lead singer is 73.
Oh, they're still together. Kicked ass on their 50th Anniversary tour. BTW, they're two dudes on the guitar.
This is the song I always say epitomises metal. Electric eye and victim of changes next please.Great reaction
"Brighter than a thousand suns" , is how we describe a manifestation of god in Hindouism .
The entire album is fire, it revolutionized metal when it came out. This is one of those albums where there is not one song that is not a masterpiece.
1st album was back in 1977, this was released 1990 and released 2 albums this year!!! so much you could cover!
Judas Priest is my all-time favorite Heavy Metal band. Lead singer Rob Halford hits all those notes on concert. He has a 6 octave range. Awesome 🤘🖤🎶
Young man they're still out touring Rob halford and his mid-70s sounds great they have a album that came out this year called invincible shield check out panic attack for one the entire new album is all Kick-Ass melt your face off rip your nuts off Kick-Ass heavy metal you know the thrash metal bands that are out they all say Judas Priest when they were growing up was like an inspiration to them
*Judas Priest just came out with a new album. They're still together and you need to react to "trial by fire" off their new album.* 🤘🤘🤘
Bro, they have been around for over 50 years. singer Rob Halford is known as the metal god. bands like iron maiden and others got their sound from judas priest.
