Don't be too quick to judge Rob Halford voice and vocal range. The band has other songs that are completely different. You should take a listen to a song that sing called diamonds and rust along with dreamer deceiver. Victim of changes is also a great song as well. You would be pleasantly surprised to learn of just how much range the singer actually has. Anyway, keep up the great work, I absolutely love your channel. I saw them live on the Painkiller tour and it was 100% the loudest night of my life. Their song "Touch of Evil" shows more of the vocals without as much of the sonic distraction from the massive drums and guitars.
Judas Priest is a lot, you say? They are supposed to be a lot! The music revolution of the 1960s had grown to the point where it was not simply merging rock and other forms, folk, blues, country.. It was inventing new things. Metal was one of them and was both very new but at the same time a return to the energetic and 'shocking' roots of rock and roll. New in style, but old in spirit. As someone who grew into adolescence as rock and roll was first being born, I am pleased beyond saying that this new form of music, this new music that was OURS, is still going strong in all of its many many forms and still gaining new fans.
Oh yes, rock and roll has stemmed so many new genres in which I am incredibly thankful for! I absolutely love the rock from the 60's and 70's and EVERYTHING it created afterwards. I only wish I could've been around when it was actually the mainstream sound 😕
Glad you could listen to Judas Priest...and this is one of their all-time best songs...but in order to appreciate it more, you must delve deeper into their earlier catalog...this song arrived in 1990, and was on their 12th album (their first album was released in 1974)...they are still touring today, so 48yrs since their first album. Rob Halford is on the short list of the greatest rock/metal singers of all time. Btw, that band photo in your video is not Judas Priest...it's their ex-lead guitarist's band KK's Priest.
You're always suggesting Painkiller to opera singers, vocal coaches for their first reaction to Judas Priest, and they end up thinking Rob Halford only sings with crazy rough scream vocals...
Rob Halford has a 6 octave vocal range. He is one of the most talented singers in Heavy metal music. Judas Priest is an AMAZING band. That's why they are called Medal Gods!
This is the poster song of Metal music. There are songs that are harder, heavier, faster, more iconic, and technically better, but this is the one song that best represents all aspects of Metal.
My dad told me when PAINKILLER album came up back in 1990 it caught everybody off guard; even Judas Priest fans didn't expect to be hit like this... With this song and this album, the band took the heavy metal to the category of the fine arts.
Thats because JP were a bit lightweight and poppy before this. Even for the early 80s they were a bit weak as a metal band. This song was totally out of character for them
Judas Priest changed hard rock clothing which up to that point had been jeans-based. The leather and and spikes were taken from the gay S&M scene that inspired singer Rob Halford.
This way there in the rock and roll hull of fame and a 50 year career in music I saw live at madson square garden and the fun’s got happy and ripped all the seats out of the ground great music
One Judas Priest song you should definitely react to is my personal favorite song of theirs, "Heart Of A Lion". However, the version that's the best version of that song, is listed as "Halford-Heart Of A Lion", and only uses the name of the lead singer, Rob Halford, as the artist. Or it's listed on UA-cam as "Heart Of A Lion - Studio Recording".
Halford is the quintessential heavy metal front man. Been doing it for what close to 50 years now. You just throw the mold away after him and you get just about every other heavy metal front man after him pretty much. His vocals are just beastly.
I saw Priest in 2018.....Rob STILL had those vocals then and when they played Painkiller there wasn't much drop off from listening to it from the album. Rob as I recall was also trained in opera.

Try Victim of Changes or the Sinner from Live Vengeance. Many people love their Diamond and Rust acoustic version. I love everything Rob Halford and Judas Priest but there are so much better vocal performances from JP to react to. I don't know why so many people request this as a reaction but that's just my opinion.

idk if you're right about how he does it, I think it's just how his voice sounds that high. If it were uncomfortable or painful, like the way you showed, he wouldn't be singing this song today. He's still singing it live in the original key and he's 70 years old, even adding a C6 at the end the last few years. If it were in any way straining to do, that would've been impossible

Maggie, great reaction! I didn't realize you hadn't done Judas Priest before. There is way more to Rob Halford's vocals than just what you hear here. You really need to check out their song
"Victim Of Changes". But do a live version, either Memphis 1982 or the US Festival 1983. You won't be disappointed!
Run of the Mill, and. Dreamer Deciever/Deciever...their 70's-side❤
You’re gonna have to ice the girls after shaking them around for that long lol
Try singing like that for 50 yrs...😳
It was hard not to think the reaction was more or less patronizing and making fun of the song. That's hilarious!
Please, try some of their early stuff. Victim of Changes is a great vocal line in showing the diversity of Rob Halford vocals.
I heard they wrote this song because people said they were too old to rock out so they said …..hold my beer!
I am from these "Total valid", ... so pure classic for me like Mozart, can listen 24/7. BTW all great bands are from UK - no exceptions.
These guys have come a long ways I've been watching this band since 1975 they have improved Thier skills heavier n faster over the yrs
I had so much fun watching you.
Little known fact, Rob puts so much vocal fry throughout this song because if he didnt, no one would survive.
Dreamer / deceiver shows a different side of his voice from tge 1970’s or victim of changes
i played this album at my little sisters 6th birthday party cos i loved it,the kids werent impressed!
"Unleashed in the East" is where you should travel next in J.P. History. "Beyond the Realms of Death" and "Sinner" will give you a much better insight
On 1:15 min the picture Is from the band KK Priest not Judas Priest.
idk if you're right about how he does it, I think it's just how his voice sounds that high. If it were uncomfortable or painful, like the way you showed, he wouldn't be singing this song today. He's still singing it live in the original key and he's 70 years old, even adding a C6 at the end the last few years. If it were in any way straining to do, that would've been impossible
