Sparklehorse + Posthumous Albums

Sparklehorse just put out a new album 13 years after the death of Mark Linkous. Long after most of us had given up any notion of there being any new music. Especially not a fully realized album of all new material. You'd think the album would be a real downer, especially coming from someone who battled a lot of demons throughout his life, but I'm finding the record to be something quite different. What are some other great posthumous albums? Not so much an album of demos or outtakes, but an album of new material that they were working on just before they passed away.

Bird machine is very good goodbye album. Lyrics look simple from the first listening, but more repeats you do, the deeper it gets. Although this time it is much easier to get meaning and majority of references.

I loved Mark’s music, and when this posthumous release was announced, I was skeptical-these types of releases rarely deliver, and even if there’s a few good tunes, the albums feel like a collection of odd-and-ends, no cohesion. I picked this up on vinyl, and after several listens, I agree that it is well-curated and feels like an complete album. I love it-it’s up there with Dixie for me. Great review. Keep the videos coming!

Thank you very much for your great videos!! Especially this one really touched me, because I love the music of Sparklehorse I guess as much as you do. To my mind Mark was one of the best musicians and composers of our time, and I miss him very much. Now I´m giving the "Bird Machine" a try - hope I´m not too disappointed, strange feeling to hear "new" stuff from a dead person! Please go on making videos that are so unique and heart-felt like you did in the past!!

I need to look into the 90s stuff from Sparklehorse. I have 'Dreamt For Light...' and 'Dark Night of the Soul' on CD, but that's it. Have been meaning to delve a little further into the earlier stuff.
