  • It feels like it's been a bit. I burned myself out by doing 20 videos over the course of 20 days. Today I'm thinking about sun. Nice weather. You know why? It's actually nice in Seattle. The sun is out. It's warm. And the extended forecast makes it seem like this kind of weather could finally stick this time. So I'm picking records that sound good on nice, hot days.

Sign O The Times is always up there for me. Lots of great memories playing that over and over at summer parties back in the 80's. Still have my copy that I bought back then. Enjoy the rest of the weekend! 😎🎶

This was a really good video and I liked your description of the Seattle weather, particularly as I live in a very similar climate all the way in Canberra, Australia. Grey cold winters that stretch on for many months followed by bright warm summers. I struggle with cold weather and spend the winter months counting down the days till spring. I could only watch your video with envy as I looked out the window on a grey, miserable winter day and waited for the arctic winds to arrive. But I did also want to comment on your music choices. After seeing your video I reached for my CD copy of The Flaming Lips' 'Transmissions.. ' that I had not listened to for at least 15 years and enjoyed revisiting it. It reminded me of when The Lips went from being an underground psych-rock group to a hip choice for the 90s indie kids. 'Clouds Taste Metallic' remains the go to Lips album for me as it beautifully captures that combo of Beach Boys melodic wall of sound and the noisier side of the indie rock scene. I also wanted to make a quick comment about R.E.M. I recently listened to 'Automatic for the People' for the thousandth time but couldn't help feel a bit duped. Although the songs are good, the production on that album made it seem it was being made as an acceptable 'alternative' for those people who didn't really get all those loud grungy 90s bands but had nevertheless rushed out and bought a copy of Nirvana's 'Nevermind' so they could tell their friends at dinner parties over a glass of Merlot that they were part of the 'scene'. A bit cynical maybe but also a bit funny. It might be heresy to say it, but I wonder whether R.EM. were a better singles band as, apart from 'Murmur' and 'Reckoning', whenever I feel like listening to them I tend to reach for one of a number of R.E.M compilations. Anyway, great video!

I would add The Flaming Lips 1992 album, Hit to Death in the Future Head, to your list, making it five albums in a row. Honestly, In a Priest Driven Ambulance from 1990 should be also! So it's six. Those guys were so incredible back then.

Thanks for the REM recommendation. I jumped off after Monster. And truthfully the last time i was really into them was after they released Green. Went to see them on that tour at the top of 1989 in Cincinnati. I'm gonna check out Reveal. I like your stories about Minneapolis, the bay area and Seattle

Thanks for the suggestions! Love the way you described the High Llamas record. That and the undertones are new to me. Need to pull out Parallel Lines again.

Which alternate radio station…93.7 The Edge or Rev 105?

I was talking about DMX, which was something that came with my cable package and wasn’t a local thing. LOVED Rev 105 and was devastated when they went off the air. 89.3 was/is great too. Just several years between the two. But there was always Radio K.
