    I think what I have realized about their arguing dynamic is that there was no way he could ever calm her down. If he walks away or isolates, she escalates. If he stays and engages in the argument with the hopes of coming to a resolution, she escalates. This was a no win for him in every battle.

      I suspect that even if he were to just flat out agree with her everytime, she wouldn't calm down (and he often does try to agree with her! Calling himself a monster, co-opting the language of her abuse). You're right, there was no winning there, no way to diffuse. Its almost like she doesn't even want a resolution. The point is the chaos and the fury-thats what shes going for. Part of her wants it to get to the point where people are shrieking and losing it, and there's a satisfaction knowing that she's the orchestrator. Of course, this is just my interpretation based on my own experience of people who operate in this way. Whether Amber is this kind of person, I guess ill have to wait and see when she testifies.

      @@meghanpoplacean2216 I think what she wanted was compliance....for him to meet and agree with her perspective. I take note of her unwillingness to respect his space and a desire for a time to reflect and cool off so that they could deal with each other with insight. She wanted immediate resolution. It has to be solved now, on her demand. That isn't logical or reasonable. She wants instant gratification. It speaks to her level of maturity.

    The live chat kills me some days. Y'all, she's analyzing as we go. She's not choosing a side. She's telling us straight-up whether or not something works for Johnny's case or against it because he's the one currently speaking. She can only comment on what's being said in the moment. She might *seem* like she's on JD's side, but in reality? Rottenborn is asking terrible questions, making ridiculous objections. I type court transcripts for a living. She's not wrong. The more time you spend around lawyers or in courts or listening to court? The more you learn which lawyers act like petulant children and which lawyers know what they're doing and know how to ask questions and properly react to objections instead of huffing because you aren't getting your way.

    I’ve seen many comments surrounding JD’s wearing of “sunglasses,” on many channels covering this trial. He is legally blind in left eye, requires readers as most do by age 50. My son is also blind in L eye. When viewing bright screens, especially for long periods of time, the light can cause floaties, head aches, lack of ability to concentrate when reading bc optic nerve isn’t a pair as w other 11 cranial nerves. He looks “cool” in them, movie “starrish,” as described by many, yet for one who sees in 2D & has one seeing eye, his reading glasses w tinted lenses are necessary. My son wears glasses to protect seeing eye & imo, my son, like JD, looks handsome when wearing them, too.😂 So, hope that helps anyone who isn’t liking his choice of reading lenses.

      I don't know if he is legally blind but blue tinted prescription lenses are used for people who suffer from photosensitivity especially the one emitted by screens and artificial lights.
      I have binocular diplopia and before getting prism lenses i used a "frost" lense to eliminate the double vision and rely on monocular vision.
      My mother has photosensitivity too so her prescription lenses turn brownish when exposed to the sunlight and get back to transparent.

After I had been beaten by my ex so many times I found it to be cathartic to just let it my injuries bleed everywhere I could. It felt better than just trying to bandage it up because then they would have to sit with the consequences of what they had done and have a lasting reminder instead of just moving on and acting like that physical violence never even happened. From my understanding the monster in Johnny's eyes is 1. failing at sobriety; he said it in a really drawn out way but at 2:56:54 he explains it best and 2. when he would participate in the fighting with Amber.
    I can definitely see how if he was being referred to as a monster all the time by the person he loves, at a certain point he would probably just start to accept it. There is so much evidence showing how non confrontational he is by always try to escape the fighting (whether that be with drugs or by leaving) and even in the past court case he caved in to questioning to be more agreeable at times. That doesn't sound like an abuser to me, just sounds like someone who has been beaten down and antagonized to a point where he cracks and either fails at sobriety or be stoops to Amber's level and insults her back.

      Sounds also like survival, too. To diffuse a violent situation, sometimes acquiescence can prevent even worse violence, especially in situations where the power imbalance is great (like between an adult and a child). This was probably how he survived as a kid. Accept what the abuser is saying and doing because resistance will just provoke them to double down and go even further into abusive extremity. He's trying to diffuse a bomb.

You could tell from her lexicon as displayed in court and during her interview that she definitely thought she was smarter than most, and certainly acting as a lawyer on the screen does not mean you are lawyer. What a lesson in arrogance

    All of this breaks my heart for Johnny Depp. I have been a great fan of his for years and I remember when he started doing the character captain jack. It was near to when he had his first born child and I remember he said it was a role he wanted to do as he wanted to finally do something his children could see him in and feel proud. Something clean and friendly for children. Many of his previous roles had been rougher characters and not so child friendly types. This was something he said he wanted to do for his children.

    I missed Johnny's testimony when the trial originally aired - only started watching after I saw everyone online freaking out about Muffingate. During Amber's direct/redirect I thought it was incredibly painful when Elaine went 10+ minutes without getting a question in because of objections. watching Johnny's testimony now, learning that the same thing happened with Rottenborn, it was almost laughable.
    Amber's testimony sunk her own ship, but seeing JD's genuineness during direct and the poor lawyering during his cross... I think her case was doomed from the start. So many of the audio's Rottenborn played either didn't move the needle, or showed it was a no-win situation no matter how JD reacted because AH would escalate anyway, or they flat out were worse for her than him. I spent most of the cross scratching my head wondering wtf Rb was trying to accomplish

She's a mimic w\o an ounce of talent herself. Just a great pair of tits that time & gravity will take away. Even w\the best surgeons. I mean she's already been destroying her looks w\whatever she tried to do what 18mo ago. I'll say her face looks a bit better here than the UK trial & how wide her face was. But still not enough makeup in the world to hide her ugly!

  • @frjavy
    @frjavy 2 роки тому +42

    Touching back on the makeup - the attorney mentioned Amber used “amica” cream to cover up the bruise. It was more likely she was told about “arnica” cream, which is a real thing some use to speed up the healing of bruises. Arnica does not cover them up, but it speeds up their dissolving away. Her assurances on the podium when interrogating a witness with “amica” cream references was very wrong!

    • @damdamfino
      @damdamfino 2 роки тому +12

      Yes, clearly the lawyer needs glasses. She misread the “RN” in Arnica as an “M”.
      But that also means she’s never spoken out loud to Amber about using Arnica cream, either. If she’s only ever seen the name on text, and never heard it said out loud, how does she know Amber used it?

    When Depp said 'the monster was sobriety'. I think what he meant was the monster was -his battle with sobriety-. Everything that goes into it. The struggles with being sober. The depths of self-hatred, being gaslit, relapsing, being called a monster for not being able to stay sober, for being called basically a weak loser due to his addiction...all of this, it seems to be, falls under his umbrella of 'sobriety', ie: everything in his life that surrounds the discussion of sobriety. He's not being clear here tho, opening himself up for misinterpretation and he may have confused the jury.

    Anyone who is upset about how JD speaks, I would like to suggest a comparison. You come to a foreign country and you don't understand their language in full and no one understands you in full. But you really want to be understood. That's why JD speaks like this. He speaks a different language than we do. He speaks poetry and humor that we don't know and that's his normal language. And he is now trying to explain all this in our language and is also afraid of being misunderstood.
    He has already made the experience that his statements did not lead to success, whether with Amber or in court in the UK. There he went out as a wifebeater. So yes, he is afraid and has difficulty communicating himself to us in a much more foreign language. But his brain works perfectly. I think it is even a bit superior to the normal mortal.
    And on top of that, he is a victim of psychological and physical violence.

I lost my voice in 2015. It was one of the most depressing years I've ever had. It felt as if I had nothing left at the worst of it. It's getting worse, and it's to the point I haven't touched my guitars at all in 3+ months, and barely did for th 15+ months prior. Along with the tendinitis affecting/prohibiting my other hobbies. It gets to you after a while. It's physical discomfort, but also a huge emotional/mental toll having something so important "stripped away" from you. I 100% understand johnny's feelings about it.
      And I can relate to his dark humor/sensationalism in those texts. I often joke/say that I'm just gonna chop my arm off because it'll get rid of the pain/take care of the problem. Do I genuinely mean I'm gonna cut my own arm off? no. It's a dark way of coping with a sensitive, distressing topic. It was definitely the same for him. I have both personal and professional experiences of this, I also have experince of male dv victims and they will tell you anything to deflect from their partner just like woman its no different i also have personal, familiar and professional experience of both male and female victims. Days ago when they read out the witch texts I realised the joke and since my brain keeps yelling, does she weigh the same as a duck though?

    I figured it out the monster 8s the hurt, anger, sadness, that came when sober, when fighting with amber, when disapointed with himself for diinking or doing drugs

    I didn't really watch the trial while it was happening, but I stumbled across this channel and coverage of it a couple of days ago so I decided to watch it now. I'm at the part in the redirect when they're discussing the writing on the mirror and Emily said that writing on the walls seems to be a weird response to having his fingertip taken off. My theory on it is this: she had come to Australia angry about the post-nup that Depp's lawyer had presented her with (if I remember the timing correctly). He was trying to escape her anger with his drinking and trying to ignore her, which made her even more angry. So she threw the bottles at him and it cut off his finger. At this point, Depp is likely under the influence of various substances. He's now in shock from a sudden, physically traumatic injury to his body while still on some level dealing with any number of negative emotions from both the current confrontation and whatever previous traumas the situation was triggering for him. And is still under the influence of substances. So in that state, with his brain not really being able to function or process the situation properly, it honestly makes sense to me that in his mind the only way to try and get her to listen to him and vent his anger and frustrations was to write it on the walls. He wasn't operating at full capacity at that point. It probably didn't even register in that moment "I need to get my finger treated". He was in pure reaction mode and his brain was trying to process and cope with everything but didn't know how to in that moment.
    I've had situations as well where my trauma brain kind of took over and all rationality and reasonable thinking left the building so to speak. I haven't done the same kinds of things as Depp or gone to the same extremes, but I have checked out and done self-destructive behavior while on a sort of auto-pilot because at the time there truly felt like no other way to react to the situation. Things that, even after explaining myself, other people still don't fully understand and can't quite wrap their heads around. So as grotesque as it may sound to some, I really do understand why he would have drawn on the walls with his finger in that moment. Does that make it okay? No, it doesn't. It was still horrible and traumatic for not only himself but likely many other people involved in the incident. It is understandable how he would react that way though.

    Walking away from an argument is something that I lived as well. My bf during an argument wants to take time off to think and calm down so that he doesn’t say anything mean to me. My previous long time relationship was really toxic and with my previous bf we would argue for hours and after me crying for hours, I would just get tired and would ask him can we please just stop, I cannot do this anymore. After that toxic arguing, my current bf’s approach was so different, in the beginning of our relationship, I wanted to continue discuss/argue but he would always take a step back which at that time would get me so anxious. But I realised his idea of calming down and discussing afterwards was the better option than yelling to each other for hours. After accepting that and learning to appreciate his way, we are doing so so so much better. We both know each other’s way of thinking and we don’t even argue anymore. After a horrible relationship, I had to learn how to be healthy and I am so glad to find an amazing person as my current bf. I didn’t even realised how damaged I was because of my previous relationship. So I can see Depp’s idea of walking away and calming down for further discussions. It is the healthy way.

    I WISH I could use my glasses here and there like Amber. I either see or I don’t see relative to whether my glasses are in or off.
