It's basically always people from the West they ironically preach about love and respect and equality among everyone but think of themselves as the only moral authority on the entire planet. If your culture is considered bigoted, it must be destroyed, and by extension, if you are part of that culture, you too must be destroyed. In Japan Twitter, it is rude to reply to someone directly if they are not following each other. It is very common to retweet a tweet and add a tweet afterward because they want to share their thought or just even silly random commentary to their followers only. This is what people who engage in cancel culture don't get, everyone got their own boundaries and comfort zone, it is IMPOLITE to throw your opinion on a stranger and force them to provide their beliefs, even on the internet.
Ironically enough, they’re pushing Eurocentric/Western views and values upon the world. They complain about imperialism, yet they participate in a dumbed down version of it.
Westerners don't usually understand the concept of politeness.

So Ito basically said, "Just make gender neutral spaces for trans people, and gave a basic definition of what a woman is, answering Matt's wtf question that sadly people can't answer" but twitter took that common sense advice as an attack? I'm sorry WHAT!?
Because that's not what they want to hear. They want to hear that he thinks trans people should be able to go into any space of their gender of choice without issue and that there are no gender definitions and anyone should be able to immediately just be 100 percent the gender they want. And otherwise you're a transphobe. A well thought out solution to the "problem" is not what people want to hear they just want to be validated and told they can do whatever they want and everyone else has to 100 percent believe what they believe. It's no different that politics at the end of the day.

I wish I was joking but people genuinely believe that even asking questions is somehow harmful to their ideology or views, which is extremely telling about the intelligence (or lack thereof) of the speaker.

He didn't deserve any harassment to begin with, but at least the people asking for explanations weren't harassing him, they were in fact being quite polite.
As for telling people to learn Japanese, that is the same thing as telling a Japanese to go learn english if they don't understand something and ask for an explanation. He did eventually give the explanation, so the question here is why not answer right away?
And regardless of that, it seems like the misunderstanding was more of a cultural barrier rather than a language barrier, as it was explained in other tweets that he retweeted later on. So again, why tf tell people to just go learn Japanese instead of deescalating things?
Telling someone to go study a whole new language isn't gonna help by any means (in the short term), specially when you consider how complex and different from western languages Japanese is.

However people quickly discover that saiying "today I had carrots for lunch. I like carrots" doesn't yield as many retweet/like/notifications as saying "GOD YES CARROTS. WE SHOULD BRUTALLY KILL ANYONE WHO DOES NOT LIKE THEM CARROTS". These platform are litteraly built to bring out the worst in human beings through dopamine addiction, which is why it's never a surprise to see these terminany online people always having such hateful manners. Moreover, nobody likes being the bad guy so naturally they all end up being justice warriors.
Why search for context when you can just get mad at someone, insert yourself into the situation, and feign offence. Glad that there were people to explain what was going on and good on Ito for not being taken for a ride by Wrah.

You're right, by making name calling and so called "criticism" such a trivial and meaningless, purely subjective and whimsical matter they're turning disagreements and genuine concerns and topics a completely fictional existance, when any kind of polemic boils down to someone not liking you. Online debate barely exists anymore, it's all clout and schoolyard child fighting.
The best thing to do is to just stick to your views and just assume everyone is simply trying to destroy you for no reason. And that, essentially, means that people are generally invited to become jaded and uncaring about anything that doesn't involve them and their own ideas and fixations.

It's always been preferable to me to be able to converse with someone you disagree with and criticize their stance. When I saw Ito's response of "could you learn japanese," the first thing I thought of was "educate yourself." I recall being used a lot when someone would ask about a progressive stance and they'd get angry about having to explain it. I'm sure it's been out there for a while, but it's nice to finally see that come full circle in some form

I’m currently following a Japanese game dev, I used Google translate to speak with them and they told me its fine to use English cuz Google sucks.

Well, the older you get, the harder it is to learn anything, really. So blaming yourself for being bad at linguistics isn't all that.. adequate. You can do that, but believe me, self loathing will do you no good.
In addition to that - Japanese, or, any language in the Asian part of the world, is incredibly intricate and complex (well, besides basic Korean, but when you get into the more complex part of Korean, it gets on pratically the same level), so, it goes without saying that it will take hundreds, if not thousands of hours to learn it. Start off slow, and pick up the pace where you can. Don't overwork yourself, don't try to step over stones, because, as a wise man once said - "Just like a house needs a set foundation, so do you. Trying to learn something without a foundation, would be like trying to build a house on a hill without a foundation. It will fall, as if it were a house made of game cards."
I had some japanese friends i made in a game and still learning japanese, and believe me, its hard trying to communicate, and sometimes google are just so bad, we at times use deepL translate

They refuse to attempt to understand through the machine translation the words written in japanese (which btw, can be easily done through little research or even the use of ChatGPT, to the point that even I can understand with just the automatic TL) yet demand the artist to go out of his way to write in English an explanation..
Like, they don't even know if his english is good, and yet they think that it would definitely have no misunderstandings?

Barely anyone around me is willing to speak english. A lot understand it, but most of them don’t feel comfortable speaking it.
In my country about 90% of the population knows English only my grandparents and my niece don't know it. but my country has no balls we love to hate on ourselves for no reason. most countries are not like this a lot of countries are like 1950s america and that includes japan.

From what I gathered from what he said, he's more than willing to accommodate trans people socially and culturally, and holds nothing against them, but balks at calling them actual women/men instead of trans men and trans women. He's willing to accept them in society and see them treated with humanity and dignity, just not willing to accept them as biologically of the gender they wish they were. I think it’s important to know that in Japan rn, there have been an increase (or people are starting to take more notice) in men pretending to be trans to enter female-only spaces and/or sexually harass women. So many people are cautious and want to approach it carefully.

Here in Brazil a common way of writing laughter is with ks. Three ones are not uncommon.
It is because we pronounce the letter as "kah",which is one of the onomatopoeias for laughter.
Pretty sure twitter people would think it is related to a certain group that used three ks in there and take the person as a racist with no regard to context. Then try to make people explain in english despite many people not knowing enough to even understand why they are offended about it, much less explain properly their position.
I think that also happens in Spanish-speaking circles as well.

Reading Japanese names is really simple and easy, I don't know why people keep saying them wrong. Hero just straight up called him Mashiro 1:02 no sweat. It's Ma-sa-hi-ro. Each one sounding like they are written. you don't have to guess anything, just how did Ma-sa become Ma-shi.

In regards to the locker-room thing, it's such a strange conflict. See, I am pretty lax about nudity, I don't care about watching other people when changing, so if there was a merry mix of men and women, I'd scarcely notice. But, I am well outside the norm, I think.
The men's locker room is for men, that being human males. The women's locker room is for women, human females. Regardless of how they identify. If you, as a transwoman, go into the women's locker room and face protest, your humanity is not denied. We recognise you as a human being with human rights. And we recognise that you entered the wrong dressing room. You're still human, and you can go and be human in the men's dressing room, because you are, in the end, a human male.
And it's okay to be a human male. It's every bit as good as being a human female. It's just not the same thing, and most people are uncomfortable with being naked together with strangers of the opposite sex. They have rights, too.
I'm gonna say it: the concept of gender being eliminated never sat right with me- and I'm genderfluid. For many people it doesn't matter, but for the great majority it is another part of their identities as important as their names or where they come from. Deleting gender so there's no transphobia or confusion is... dumb. It's ok to say man and woman; male and female. It's also ok to say either when you're speaking about certain experiences. It's not an obligation to make everything neutral, you can just refer to the majority of a group when speaking and that's alright!

If only more people felt like yourself. I don't think any amount of reading or education will make me think of the phenomenon of trans people as somehow not unusual. I genuinely have nothing against them as individuals, even if I may never fully understand their reasoning. I will always be supportive of peoples' right to express themselves however they choose.
But for one, the concept of 'deadnaming' seems terribly sad to me, as though a person is trying to reject or deny part of what makes them who they are, instead of simply accepting it, integrating it as part of their identity, and moving on from it. And no amount of mental gymnastics will lead to me feeling that there is no distinction between transmen/women and biological males/females. No matter what gender reassignment surgeries or hormones are taken, what voice training they may do to sound more convincingly masculine/feminine, and even how attractive they might appear to the opposite sex. A trans woman, for example, will never be able to conceive and give birth, no matter how much they may wish otherwise.
I sympathise with their desire to be seen as indistinct from those born as a certain gender but I also feel it's impossible. Their bodies and brains are structurally different, their lived experiences are different. We only have to look to the performance and controversies around trans athletes to see evidence of this. It is difficult because to some, maybe even many, trans people, this would make me 'transphobic' even though I bear no ill will. I value peoples' subjective realities but not to the extent I feel comfortable denying the objective one. That's the line I draw.

Agreed. I am asexual. I do not expect the vast majority of people to know what that is, or live their lives like sex doesn't matter to them like it doesn't to me. I think the problem is that a commonly held belief is that outrage somehow signals the presence of virtue. Being told to do research before you accuse people of things isn't insulting unless it's true that you're ignorant of the context. But just because you're ignorant doesn't mean someone else is obligated to educate or inform you of anything. It's your own personal responsibility to be educated and informed before making accusations. There's a difference between saying "I don't understand" and "you realize that's offensive."

A phobia is an irrational fear of something that shakes people to their core to the point where they can't even function. I have a phobia of falling from great heights, the ocean in general and being stuck unable to move in a confined space. My point is I don't think most people are deathly afraid of trans people. Phobia is now being used to label other's that maybe just don't understand the situation. isn't being labeled something that your not a hate crime? People can be so ignorant and hateful just for clout on the internet. It's really sad
These people don't know what an actual phobia feels like but they label any criticism as such. I can't stand static heights, and I button up real quick. Same for deeper than my height bodies of water but that came about from coming within seconds of drowning. Additionally large groups of people also cause me to experience the claustrophobic feeling I get from being in deep water. You'd also think making light of someone's mental hang-ups like phobias by claiming criticism as a phobia or any other random shit of the week as a phobia would be mocking mental health. Last I checked they don't like people making light of mental health, while they simultaneously do that themselves lol.

The whole idea of identity in Japan is quite expansive since very early on. Even in tribes before America was invaded by the Europeans, gender for them was much more complex and multi-faceted. The ideas of gender being just two things are only born from European ideology where even then, men are held up in high regards. It would be better if the "rules" we set up for gender were done away with so people can live as themselves instead of what the world expects them to be.

English is difficult for Japanese speakers because grammar structure(English is subject + verb + object; Japanese has verb and object swap places), pronounciation(English speakers have more sounds than Japanese people), context(unlike the English language, Japanese is more dependent on context like pronouns such as "I" or "you" are omitted, but the sentences do make sense based on context, like 私は学生です("watashi wa gakusei desu", I am a student) can be shortened as 学生です(gakusei desu)).

People be like, well gender is socially constructed and distinct from sex Okay but social constructs are... socially constructed and culturally relative... So like different cultures will have different understanding of the idea of woman/man. So sure a group of people can change how they understand woman/man as having no implication of sex. But the opposite is also true. And in a time where culture is changing so rapidly it makes perfect sense that some people would hold onto the sex distinction while others will let it go. People who think their definition of gender is the one and only universal definition of gender on the basis that it's socially constructed are missing the point entirely. To say that people should be treated with respect, and be safe regardless of their gender, or anyone's definition of gender is imo is much better than trying to argue that your culture/groups definition of gender is universal.
Anybody who says gender is a social construct are by default the definition of either being indoctrinated or just plain stupid.
