More analysis of Kennedy's swing please 🥺!? Brendon this is by far the best series you have produced. It's awesome you found Dr. Kwon and shared this with us.
Hahaha… I saw your comment but it didn’t make sense until about 4 minutes into the video. Now, you have to drink a shot of whiskey every time she says gotcha and chug a beer every time she says uh huh.
That’s a fair jump in swing speed ! Some would be happy with any increase in swing speed if’s few mph but a jump of 16 mph in that sequence is pretty good with definitely more to come.
Watched this last week and worked on what is explained at 13:00. Great feel for loading up. My previous high ss on a monitor was 98mph.. At a callaway fitting yesterday I was at 98-100 consistantly and a high of 102. Literally added about 3-4mph of consistant speed just with this feel of pulling a weight back to load up then drop down.
Watching that last swing and without knowing the swing speed the improvement was clearly visible, smooth, and powerful. I loved Dr. Kwon's analysis and technical information.
He does an amazing job of explaining this. If I'm getting it right it also explains why the swings of L/PGA players look effortless but why they hit the ball so far.
A lot of hitting the golf ball far is technique, for sure. Her swing is in such good shape he basically taught her how to get the lower body moving sooner. So the club is still going back when the lower body begins dropping and driving. That creates more torque and lag / whip through the ball. She's flexible and in great shape, so not everyone is going to be able get her results that quickly. I'm not sure she'll get all 110 that she gets in the drill. But she probably added 20 yards in one session.
Awesome ! What I loved about this Kwon move ( tail bone moving away from target ) is that is counter to the conventional teaching that the tailbone should move towards the target during the backswing. Home run hitters in baseball do the Kwon move and so should we
Yes. It is. I enjoy this kind of stuff. I also enjoy the almost opposite stuff like Wisdom of Golf, Shawn Clement. You'll see that Shawn finds these natural body movements, for max power, based on his "task oriented" teaching. Where can i find more of Dr. KWON???
I went to the range and tried this out and the problem I had was with the “ re-centering” move. When I was able to recenter I did notice more energy into the ball. But if I didn’t recenter the ball went all over the place. So what would be important addition to this concept would be how to consistently re-center
@@chrisstevens2593 Yeah that's the issue with this swing. You can't get the timing right very often. But if you are a pro you prolly can practice enough to find a timing/recenter with this swing. Will we see the next swing being running up to the ball and striking it? To try to get more of the leverage/movement/power in the swing.
At 14:15 she is crushing it. Go Girl! Thank you for letting us in on this session of one on one coaching. Dr Kwon's software tools and his explanations of the results are very cool. The torque explanationespecially.
He has his own yt channel now too. It's worth watching his torque and moment arm explanation there. I think one key is the lengthening of the moment arm, meaning COPelvis must be more to the right at the point of peak combined GF/torque in the DS. Hence the Austin hip move in the BS already. He also responded to my Q there with 'in the BS the right foot pushes down and outward, in the DS the left foot pushes down and outward'. (I understand from this video to add to that the flying start push a la Kyle B off the left foot and that Austin hip move.)
I’ve been following him on Instagram and seeing golfers increasing swing speed after their sessions. It really cool there’s so much going on behind the drill he asks them to do
Really interesting and very helpful. I have same swing speed as Kennedy last time I checked so i will definitely see if I can get the old bod to do this. Thank you for sharing and good luck Kennedy on your Journey.🙂
I agree the best series. I wish Dr Kwon lived in Florida 😘. I've practiced his method and I went from 90 to 84 in just a few weeks. Now I need a putting miracle. 😁.
This is great! Using forces from the ground to create a most optimal golf swing, without actually thinking about all the rubbish golf instructors tell you these days. Never paying for another golf lesson that would only mess my head up. Thanks for sharing 👍
a good trick for this is when you get to the top of your back swing, stop and try to lift your left foot off the grown..you should be able to stand without falling...great drill
@@edwinchan6521 But Mike talked about actively using the hands/arms while kwon seems to focus on "passive arms". I think these are very very different swing ideas.
Awesome speed gain! Regarding "stuck" right elbow (elbow behind vertical line from the shoulder half way down) almost all tour players have this. The only swing i can find that is close to on the line is Paul Casey.
I kinda get the whole idea of Kwons drills are to effectively increase the moment arm but I think a practical video focusing on the moment arm would be very helpful. More about what it is, how to increase it……
By doing the 3 step drill in my living room, my club speed went up 10mph, based on my Garmin G80. Lets see if it will translate at the range this weekend
The more I see from Dr Kwon the more it seems to validate what Mike Austin was teaching. Where Dr Kwon is superior is that he is teaching by the feeling of motions rather than positions. Great stuff.
The technology available for measuring all the elements of a golf swing have greatly advanced training. What Mike Austin was able to achieve in his day is startling, and now the baton is passed to Dr. Kwon and others like him.
Very interesting. Her swing looks great to begin with, but now you can see how important that weight shift is for distance. I would love to see Rory's swing analyzed with this set up.
I got a big increase during lockdown of about 15 mph but with a ball there - hitting a ball when the courses reopened was a different result and only had 4 or 5 mph
Yes, I'd like to see more analysis of Kennedy's swing. The swing plane analysis sounds really interesting. How that translates to speed, love to see that!
This really was written before I saw the rest of the video. What I see is that she is doing what many women do and taking too much advantage of her flexibility to the disadvantage of speed. She is rotating her upper body too early because she has enough spinal flexibility to get the club down without waiting for her hips to unwind. This movement takes less strength but more flexibility. If she keeps her back turned longer while her weight shifts, she can then explode taking full advantage of the hip/shoulder discrepancy and delay the release of the trail arm and hand for maximum acceleration through impact. This takes more holding and braking power within the trunk, hip and thigh muscles but is much more efficient and ultimately much more powerful. This is written after I saw the rest of the video. So it's basically what I said in that there's too much reliance on flexibility in the spine which is why she is just spinning on the backswing which leads to the same tendency on the downswing. In order to do what I mentioned in the first half, it is a given that she would have to apply more force to the ground with her trail side in the backswing which essentially will increase the force of her "fall" significantly in the downswing which is what I was describing earlier. This will allow her to release the trail arm much more powerfully.
Is there more of this video to see more of the ending? I would have loved to see what he was saying about the right elbow being stuck behind the right hip.
Im doing exactly what she is doing. Rotating around my body evenly. I'm about 105-108 right now. Going to try and use this concept to gain more swing speed. Lets see if it works.
Is this really a 3D analysis? What is acting on the forces when you swing 20 pds of arm weight at 80mph-110mph in the down swing? Is your mass keeping you from coming over the top? Lateral movement is not just in the right or left direction when you are dealing with centrifugal momentum is it? If you do the rope drill, and start out with your left foot behind your right foot, you will find out real fast that you need to counter fall to generate speed and get the feeling of where your center mass is. These are great videos and analysis Dr. Kwon. I am pulling out my physics books again to follow you.
I think he will get her to drive the swing from the ground and the key will be the entire body move in transition to shift pressure while allowing the backswing to mature.
Very insightful clip. Does anyone know whether this loading in the backswing also apply to irons and / or to a greater extend to the driver / woods? And how does this differ from slightly swaying in the backswing (something I was taught as unwanted)?
Similar to baseball for a pitcher and hitter. Both lift their front lets to hit. I tried to lift my front leg high like a pitcher on my back swing to coil up, and instantly realized there was not enough time to do so. Then I found that I can however lift my front heel up to where all my weight is on my back. Then I pushed through...
That my friends is a baseball swing in action. It's not a sin to have dynamic feet and hips in a golf swing especially during the backswing. Transfer of weight is crucial for a strong swing.
I stopped Kennedy's swing and moved it back and forth, frame by frame. I couldn't see one thing to improve! I wish I had her swing problems. :-) Now, let's go see what Dr. Kwon says.
I wonder if originally she was taught more of a stack and tilt method? Her initial weight shift, arm extension and end weight would all suggest that motion.
Interesting. When Dechambeau and Berkshire put out a video of them practicing long drives on a sim, Berkshire mentioned to Bryson a way to get more distance was that you WANT to sway back in the backswing and forward in the downswing. I'm sure this is what he was talking about.
Yeah I bet you get more distance since you use more sway/movement but I guess there must be some timing issues. With enough practice you can prolly get the same sway every time and less timing issues.
@@anklepick9524 Sway isn't really the correct term to use, my mistake. It's more of completely loading weight onto your right side (Pulling the club from the guy made her load her weight onto the trail side of her stance) then loading all of it to the lead side BEFORE the downswing begins. I'm pretty sure that's what Berkshire meant when he told Dechambeau to sway back then forward in his swing for more distance, moving the weight around to introduce more torque in the swing for higher swing speeds. There is always timing involved, but minimizing that timing is the ultimate goal for consistency. AND if the timing you do is in starting the backswing and not at impact then you can get a more consistent ball flight. imho. (h stands for honest)
Super interesting. I guess an argument for the more static approach is timing is easier. She's an athlete so it will be interesting to see if she maintain her timing and consistency with more moving parts.
Great content in the video. The sports sensor swing speed radar your using in the video are known to be quite inaccurate, I have seen them off by 10+ miles per hour. It would be nice to see her hitting balls on track man something more reliable and accurate. For her to increase by 16mph in a couple of swings is kind of hard to believe.
I don't think Kennedy has ENOUGH of the BODY movement AWAY--FIRST-- in the take away! She needs a CONSISTENT trigger that gets her BODY moving away from the ball --- FIRST and that drill may need to be EXAGGERATED - to get her the feel of leaving the club STILL as she moves her body FIRST-- on the take away. The transition back to the ball, would be more automatic the way Dr. Kwon WANTS it to be if this happens( not guaranteed, but much better probabilities!) YOU did this in a good drill on your video; "stage 1"- if you play golf do this drill to start Dec,20 2021-- go to 6:42 in that video- I think he will say this and she just needs more of this - she needs that trigger of body movement-- first--- that is my opinon and what I think Kwon will say.
I think this is one of best kept secrets in golf coaching. Bit wonder do the top PGA and LPGA pros this type of thorough analysis? Maybe someone if you know thst better.
I say we missed the boat when it came to Moe Norman. Dr. Kwon is confirming swinging down the line rather than focus on spinning or rotating around the swing.
This is without a doubt, the most helpful and informative swing analysis video I’ve ever seen. I went from 115 mph driver swing to 105 mph in less than a year from taking some time off and I’ve been trying to pinpoint the main cause of it and I think this video just helped me do that. THANK YOU!
guess before the analysis - less lower body movement (swing stays behind ball a little bit more)- back foot on the ground longer, more power from waist and shoulders.
Take a GOOD look at Kennedy at 13:34 of the video; her hips are moving the direction and time Kwon wants; NOW-- look at her upper body, it has BEEN LEFT behind( separation) SHE NEEDS THIS( it won't be as pronounced in her normal swing); these muscles will play a big role the speed and strength of that take away, this WILL also --- be USING her CORE upper body that Kwon wants her to use, more than her arms! NEXT--Kennedy needs to do some AB work on her outer obliques on BOTH left and right! -- they will BE the dynamic strength that WILL add to the take away! Medicine Ball throws on BOTH SIDES, throwing to the her left and right, working her out obliques, and using the ground! She needs inner thigh muscle strengthening on BOTH legs-- they give HUGE stability and will ADD Control to the whole movement! She is very fit, she just needs the next step, that takes a lot of work-- for small IMPORTANT gains-- the "law of diminishing returns"!
I think Kennedy is completely in tune with her golf swing, and understands that there can be improvements to something that is already very good. The proof is in the swing speed increase! Hope to see Kennedy on tour , when she is ready.
Hmmmm 🤔. Her swing looks pretty good to me, strong and powerful. I’m not sure what Dr. Kwon will focus on. It’s going to be fun to see! Thanks, Brandon for this series. I have greatly enjoyed it. 👊👊
I would guess if motion is key in his analysis , could it be, rushing with the arms, at the expense of less separation, and less torque . She has such a powerful swing, evident in the before but not so much strain in the after efforts showing more speed.
This is super interesting. Maybe this was discussed in your previous videos with Dr. Kwon but I would like to know his opinions on repeatability and if that is something his analysis tools also analyze. While I think everyone would love to gain speed, golf is a multifaceted game in which accuracy is incredibly important as well. I know Dr. Kwon is a big proponent of speed in the backswing, but when you look a guys like Morikawa and Matsuyama be so accurate with their swings you really wonder what is the most repeatable and what are we sacrificing (if anything) with a faster backswing. Love the content! Thanks for featuring this on your channel.
@@martynzl Nothing assumed, just bringing it up since it wasn’t mentioned in the video. Anybody with with two eyes can see that Morikawa’s backswing is slower than average. In BeBetterGolf’s video “What the World’s Top Golf Swing Scientist Reveals about the Swing Plane can Help Your Game” (10 min mark) with Dr. Kwon he specifically mentions backswing speed as a key to his teaching philosophy and what is wrong with the modern swing.
@@martynzl Thanks for the explanation. I would like to see the evidence he has for consistency when using this method. Speed is all relative just like I’m sure you could tell the difference between a 50 mph and 70 mph baseball pitch without the need for a radar to tell you that the 70 mph ball was actually 71.3 mph. I’m not sure what you mean by Decade guy in reference to Morikawa and a quick google search didn’t turn up anything. He was #1 in Strokes Gained Approach last year on the PGA and was on pace to get 1.5+ which hadn’t been done since Tiger did it 10 years ago, but ended up finishing 1.17. Next closest guy was 0.895. I’d say he was pretty accurate.
@@martynzl I’m looking forward to researching more about the Decade system. I’m not necessarily advocating for a swing like Morikawa’s just pointing out that he has had success doing it while seemingly violating Dr. Kwon’s backswing philosophy. Maybe he is doing well despite his backswing or maybe his slower backswing is helping, not sure. It looks like the rest of top 10 in SGA have normal looking backswings.
1:56 I looked at her swing in slow motion before continuing the video, and all the key mechanical elements I look for in a good swing were there so I don't know what I would tell her to improve. Now going to continue the video and see what I have missed.
For the guys who are claiming they've only gained x amount of speed not more like Kennedy.. is basically the difference of watching and imitating and getting a proper lesson. Without a proper analysis you have no idea what you actually need. Hell some of us could even gain 30miles rather than 16. Remember she basically peaked her speed with all her might and couldn't get more SO she visited Dr. Kwon, not because of her trained body. The trained body means she was already physically working at her peak. The change of concept and using it in a different timing has made her new speeds... It really interests me how an office worker keeps making excuses to say the increase is from the body not the idea / concept change. The body is only important to prevent injury. What im envious of her is that if I did do that action I'll be out for weeks as my body is no longer that flexible to put those ideas into motion consistently. If you can lift a club with no issues then I disagree with a strong body being the issue to her massive increase. Remember she already had the body before reaching doc, not after.
Would like to see how much of these gains stay when she has to focus on making good contact, and how you incorporate that swing change without actually pulling it back from hip height
I'm 60 and have been a PGA Member since 1984. From an 'old school' perspective I found this to be fascinating and I learned a lot. Thanks for sharing.

I don't think Kennedy has ENOUGH of the BODY movement AWAY--FIRST-- in the take away!
She needs a CONSISTENT trigger that gets her BODY moving away from the ball --- FIRST and that drill
may need to be EXAGGERATED - to get her the feel of leaving the club STILL as she moves her body FIRST-- on the take away.
The transition back to the ball, would be more automatic the way Dr. Kwon WANTS it to be if this happens( not guaranteed, but much better probabilities!)
YOU did this in a good drill on your video; "stage 1"- if you play golf do this drill to start Dec,20 2021-- go to 6:42 in that video- I think he will say this and she
just needs more of this - she needs that trigger of body movement-- first--- that is my opinon and what I think Kwon will say.
Dr. Kwon's videos explain in great detail why everyone cannot be a professional golfer.
I think this is one of best kept secrets in golf coaching. Bit wonder do the top PGA and LPGA pros this type of thorough analysis? Maybe someone if you know thst better.
I echo to see an analysis of pro player too.
Anyone know what kind of golf balls they're using?
That was so interesting! Thanks all!
THANK YOU!
So you went backwards in progression?
Yes. Took 8 months off.
110?!? That was awesome! Fantastic info and video! Really helps explain the pro’s head dropping and what ground forces are all about! Thanks!
What type of ball is she hitting. It seems to be a practice ball that won’t cause much damage indoors on mis hits. Great series.
Guessing to stretching out, and stay long to get maximum club head spin through the turn. Focus on shoulder turn and arm coming out to attain that.
guess before the analysis - less lower body movement (swing stays behind ball a little bit more)- back foot on the ground longer, more power from waist and shoulders.
Take a GOOD look at Kennedy at 13:34 of the video; her hips are moving the direction and time Kwon wants; NOW-- look at her upper body,
it has BEEN LEFT behind( separation) SHE NEEDS THIS( it won't be as pronounced in her normal swing); these muscles will play a big role the speed and strength of that take away, this
WILL also --- be USING her CORE upper body that Kwon wants her to use, more than her arms!
She has a terrific swing. Awesome technology to improve on the athlete's natural talent and training.
I think Kennedy is completely in tune with her golf swing, and understands that there can be improvements to something that is already very good. The proof is in the swing speed increase! Hope to see Kennedy on tour , when she is ready.
What moves can you make to lengthen your moment arm?
*She needs a Zen Board for sequence matching up proper marching in place footwork! Zen Golf*
ground force pressure moving weight quicker
?
Amazing analysis. Kennedy has a great looking swing. Best of luck to her!
Very informative. Well presented. Thank you
This doctor is just amazing WOW
Do you have a waiting list for the spring sessions yet? And where are they?
That will be ironed out be the end of this month
This is incredible analysis and golf mechanics.
THIS! IS! SO! Fascinating!!!!
Great info in this video, Kwon is amazing
Question about the Step Drills:
Do the drills help with club path and club face being square at impact?
No ! your golf ball keeps flying everywhere. 🤣
Would like to see how much of these gains stay when she has to focus on making good contact, and how you incorporate that swing change without actually pulling it back from hip height
Was she still hitting it straight? What was her distance before and after?
These videos w Dr. Kwon are Awesome! Keep up the good work Brendon
it would be nice to see the same analyst of Brendon and a top tour pro. so we can see the separation of how 3 different good players uses the forces.
