    Thank-you Dr Kwon & BBG. This old man (66) went from 220 yards to 250 yards average on his drives after 6 weeks of drills. Now I use them as part of my practice and warm-up routines. I have a new perspective on golf.

    I just wanted to thank Dr Kwon and be better golf. I've been struggling with my swing for a couple of years and knew I was getting stuck and spinning out but didn't understand why until I saw this video. Thanx very much it made an instant 10 mph change in head speed with no additional practice. Looking forward to see what the drills add for speed. Stef

    If Kennedy needs to improve on that swing I’m in some serious trouble LOL. Such a beautiful and powerful swing elbow or otherwise. All the best…hope to see her on TV soon! Brendon…loving Dr. Kwon series…such a unique approach, explanations, and drills. While the basis of Dr. Keon’s is highly scientific and data-based his ability to help all of us feel what great is through these drills and exercises is a breath of fresh air. I’ve been applying the step drills in warm up and pre-swing and it has really helped me so far. I feel like I can get rid of mechanical thoughts and just let the rhythm and natural athletic motion take over which is resulting in more consistent ball striking.

      Agreed!
      Dr. Kwon or ANY coach or biomechanic specialist can have ALL the knowledge, ALL the computer graphics that SHOW everything,
      But, AT LEAST 2 more things MUST happen for this to be useful--AT ALL;
      1) the Next thing Dr. Kwon must do and he did this somewhat is; create LEAD up skills or some drills that Kennedy can REALLY --FEEL AND USE, this
      MUST happen so she can ACTUALLY change her swing!
      2) Kennedy REALLY needs to be an active, good listener and she is trying hard in the video. She WILL NEED TIME-- to work the lead ups to integrate that
      movement, she has OLDER movement patterns that WILL want to stay with her--- UNLESS-- the NEW pattern is DIFFERENT ENOUGH-- so she can really
      not slip back to an old pattern that might be TOO similar!
      This will take time, then she NEEDS to take it to the course and NOT WORRY about RESULTS --at first! That on course TRUST of the new pattern also needs time,
      it could happen quickly-- but Kennedy - needs to stick with it. IF this is a SIGNIFICANTLY enough DIFFERENT FEEL and pattern-- Kennedy could own this pattern
      quickly- BUT she won't KNOW until she is on the course and just NOT worry about scoring and work on her FEEL AND set-up that changes that feel!
      Kennedy - with her OPEN mind, her strong desire to make changes, her attentiveness and most of all ---- her DISCIPLINE are the most CRUCIAL aspect of all of this!
      You can tell she is into this and that is a VERY GOOD sign, and sets her up for success!

I never experienced the arms letting go like that! I can't wait to practice the step drills with my driver more often and get out to the range when winter is over.

      I would disagree with your PGA Tour club head speed below 110, remember the 110 wasn't her playing speed but her swing speed with out a ball. I would bet that all the current PGA Pro's under the age of 50 can swing 110 easily especailly just swing for pure speed. She probably plays at a slower swing speed, but her swing is still very atheltic.

    7:20 - It's not pull the lead knee back, but instead within the rhythm of the swing, kick or slightly jump with the lead leg (knee). That was a HUGE relevation for me. I tired it for a few moments, and wow. Of course getting the timing correct and keeping the spine angle is a challenge, as one part is going up (left side), while the spine angle is increasing by going down (right side).

I added some other drills plus I play some ice hockey so I am really starting to feel the hamstring and glutes. When I hit a good drive it feels effortless. Letting the arms sling through the shot verse using my upper body. The rope lets you know very fast if you are using the arms, you are right about that....rope offers very good feedback if I am using my lower body.

    After seeing the dominance of Korean women golfers and the emergence of their men, this instruction is compelling. The technical brilliance of the Korean women is unmatched in the game. Clearly it is due to cutting edge instruction from men and women like Dr. Kwon. I believe the key to attaining their level is to bring their instructors over to America. Look what happened in women's gymnastics when Bela and Marta Karolyi emigrated from Romania. From doormat, to dominance on an unprecedented scale. Talent without top level instruction will always leave a player two rungs short on the ladder. Take a world class teacher, then blend it with talent and sweat. That is a gourmet recipe for success.

    Interesting stuff - you would think the elbow getting stuck behind in the downswing would lead to the hands extending outward post impact, not the other way round. His demonstration at the end of the video definitely showed his hands traveling more left - the opposite of the supposed fix. The drill looks great and I bet could be useful, but I would say the risk of doing this drill without guidance is developing an out-to-in hand and club head path

  • @swisstrader

    She would really benefit from a training aid from Flyt Golf. It’s really more for chipping, but its a sleeve you slide onto your right arm and has a rigid plastic in it, so the whole purpose of it is to keep that right elbow much straighter. It’s not meant for full swings but it would straighten her out almost immediately.
    I bought the Flyt to work on my issues associated with always bending the right elbow in chipping which would throw the elbow off plane.

    • @nicholasdemetriades9154
      @nicholasdemetriades9154 2 роки тому

      Good luck! Depends just like every facet of golf. Experiment. Generally if you have strong hands you can grip the club lighter without any loss of control. Make sure you have a grip that matches your swing style and grip size. You definitely do not want any tension radiating to your forearms and shoulders in your setup. Anyway you will get instructors who advocate grip pressure across the spectrum. Its very important that you can feel where the club head is in space otherwise your swing becomes too rigid and/or robotic.

  • @mslu62
    @mslu62 2 роки тому +2

    It is almost like her trapped elbow in the downswing is a product of the backswing. In the DTL. video her right elbow points behind her as opposed to pointing at the camera. Do you feel she would benefit from keeping the arms more in front of body as opposed to being slung behind her torso ? This always results in a very long and across the line appearance at the top. It feels like a very powerful position but in reality it is very difficult to play from that position.
    Thanks guys and gal

    • @The_YouTube_Critic
      @The_YouTube_Critic 2 роки тому +1

      Yep - I really disagree with everything that was done here. Her right elbow is getting behind her, and like most women and young golfers, they are flexible and fast with their hips. Her hips start rotating before she has completed the backswing. That only further exacerbates the issue. A little less depth at the top, and a focus on shifting force to the lead leg BEFORE initiation of the turn and her elbow will no longer be stuck.

  • @billygraham5589
    @billygraham5589 2 роки тому

    Soooooo, Dr. Kwan is saying Ben Hogan had the correct right elbow move? And for me “getting stuck” comes from turning and extension of the hips too early in the downswing....

    I’d like to see a follow-up with Dr. Lynn from Swing Catalyst. Dr. Kwon has done a great job, but I feel like he could be missing out on the GRF piece, which seems to be a huge piece to consider. This series has obliquely touched on forces with the step drills and so forth, but there has been little to no discussion, with measured data, around horizontal, torque, or vertical forces that you can actually do in your swing while playing golf. This has been more around “training” methods, e.g., the step drills and starting with the club forward to transfer energy in the backswing, none of which are function/take to the course things. Nice thumbnails with that booty though :) Interested to hear everyone else’s take.

      @@BEBETTERGOLF Has Dr. Kwon said how to increase the moment arm? My layman’s understanding of it is-you gotta get your center of mass behind the ball and then in the downswing, you gotta get your center of pressure well out in front of your center of mass. I suppose by pushing into the ground really hard but keeping your mass back. This sort of sounds like the traditional “X Factor” but less about turning and more about pressure. Also, Kwon seems to suggest this increases torque, but it sounds more like horizontal pressure to me (getting your center of pressure forward of your center of mass). I’d like to hear what Dr. Lynn and others have to say.

    She’s stuck because she is across the line at the top. She’s across the line at the top because her hip turn facilitates an arm swing that is too flat for the structure to form with her current sequence. Swing lead arm up the plane, not under. Set club on plane, not over. Her club set will change her sequence, improving her trailing elbow structure into impact. Love the Open Stance.

    Lots of people will think it’s the rt elbow coming into the side… but it’s the left arm with no body separation…what causes this is tension. From the mind, anticipation of the golf shot. You feel tension across the chest for some, inside the shoulders- rotator cuffs. It transmits into the biceps and down to fore arms. This stuck elbow is not the cause.. it’s an effect of tension in the body.

      Yes. That's why the women's swings are more efficient and better for the amateur male golfers to emulate if they want to lower their handicaps.

      Even pros have faults, they've instinctively compensated for them or their hand-eye coordination is so good that they make those adjustments on the fly. Also, they are so strong that swing speed is not an issue, I know I can play very well with a stuck right elbow and swing at 115 mph, but I'm always wary of pushing or hooking. The main trouble is not being able to control the face precisely because the elbow naturally shortens the radius and makes it easy for the hands to turn inside while the clubhead's inertia is following a slightly more outside path. It's a good player's problem because most of the time the contact is great.

      @@jimralston4789 well you’re going on the assumption that Dr. Kwon is right about this being a “fault”. If a significant amount of tour pros possess it then it doesn’t fall into the fault category for me, sorry.

      @@johnnybravo9087 You're right about that. So it becomes a matter of biomechanical theory. In theory, keeping the right elbow tight against the ribcage is not optimal, but it does do some really good things like shallowing out the downswing and promoting great contact. You can play very great golf that way especially if you've been doing it all of your life. It's just that there is a slightly more efficient way to swing, in theory at least. I can find no fault in his reasoning. I have tried to copy Hogan and others by keeping that elbow tight and it feels good but I know the potential is getting stuck or hooking. It's the swing I play with, but I would like not to have to compensate for it. You hear from so many of the great players that their main fault is getting stuck. It was what Tiger said was his main full swing fault.

      @@jimralston4789 I get what you’re saying, but there is levels in sport. A mid handicapper need not worry about the outlier results of “getting stuck”. As a mid handicapper myself I am guilty of hoping that such a mechanical “fault” is my whole undoing. If Tiger could get away with it, well it probably isn’t my silver bullet! Cheers

    Well, I early extend, have a too long backswing and no power, hit my driver about 90mph, miss left and right, my elbow is stuck, my ankles have insufficient mobility, I can't deep squat without falling over, I have terrible balance, I have weak posture and a flabby gut. I can bench press 100 lbs in my 50s. My hips are very tight and I can't touch my toes. I have no separation between my shoulders and hips. I get a sensation of vertigo when putting. Chipping terrifies me, I usually putt. I hit 4 shanks the last time I played.
    Maybe this drill will help me.

    Isn’t that normal? If you are swinging up on the ball (positive AoA) your hands will be moving left while the swing direction (plane) is right of the target since you are hitting the ball after the bottom of the arc of the swing. Aka since you are contacting the ball after the bottom of the swing arc your clubhead will be moving left of the swing plane by the time you contact the ball.

    • @scifisicko2390
      @scifisicko2390 2 роки тому +2

      In good players the distance from the trail shoulder to the ball is several inches less at impact than at address. Players with good posture at address and straight trail arms at impact have raised the handle and turned with flat shoulders to avoid ploughing into the ground behind the ball (usually seen as early extention). I think your comment is very relevant to the discussion. If you look at a player like Joaquin Niemann, his trail elbow is miles behind his shoulder at P6. He also shortens the distance from his trail shoulder to the ball more than most because his shoulder turn is steeper than most. If you change the position of your elbow at P6, it has to change the position of your hands, your shoulder angle and your hand path. Even though Niemann's elbow is more than double the distance behind his shoulder at P6 (compared to the girl's before swing) he is not stuck in any sense. His trail elbow clears his hip easily (they stay back and out of the way unlike hers) and is nearly level with his belt buckle from front on as he comes into impact. The change made ito this girls swing in this lesson seems to have worked well, (it was made in the context of her hand path being well inside her club path, possibly because her hips move towards the ball in the downswing blocking her trail elbow) but like most tips, they dont apply universally. If you put Jack Nicklaus's trail elbow under his trail shoulder at P6 we might never have heard of him. Ive also never heard anyone say that he was 'stuck'. Another approach to this lesson might have been to fix her early extention to give her elbow room to pass, although this might not have changed her hand path.

    You LPGA hopeful, you are right. Your body is too forward and you need to move back without moving the head. Your elbow is not the problem. Your right hip blocks the right elbow because your left hip is blocking the right hip.
    What you need to do is clear the left hip first in the downswing before you move your arms to the ball. If you listen to him, and move your arms more in front in the hitzone, you will be topping the ball and extending the wrists to hit the ball squarely.
    Watch Nelly Korda swing up the line and notice the left hip starting the downswing.

    The right hand determines the position of the right elbow.
    Keeping the right palm facing the sky (supinate), and the right elbow will NEVER get "stuck"
    Its not swing plane issue, its a anatomy issue.
    When palm turns palm down, the elbow will ALWAYS move outward. ie OTT, "stuck" etc.
