Hi I am going to start this course in September, but from this I am worried that it will be too heavy on theory/physics for me (I didn’t do A Level Physics) Do you think it is worth swapping to Industrial Design? or is it not too bad and I could stick it out
hey! sorry for the slow response!! I'm not sure if you've talked to them about it (if not it's probably worth it because they're really nice and will probably help you decide better than I'll be able to). Imo product design and industrial design courses are almost identical, I know the ID students have slightly different modules and courseworks that PD students don't have like the packaging design challenge and other stuff but I don't think it's that important when comparing our courses as a whole? (UCD is ALOT different though!) Also just coming out of placement there are plenty of co-workers who started off doing PD at uni and end up as industrial designers and vise versa. I'm sure you'll be fine entering with PD and seeing how it goes for the year cuz the courses almost identical and I doubt there'd be an issue changing between PD/ID mid-year or even second year! I hope this helps :P
Oscar Marchal honestly I wouldn’t be able to say anything other than Loughborough because I don’t have any experience from any other unis!! (But from experience, Lboro and Brunel are basically the top 2 in terms of recognition when leaving DS and finding a job 😅)
@ꜱ ᴄ ᴏ ʀ ᴘ ɪ ᴏ ɴ lol yeah, PDE is pretty much a mechanical engineering course with a façade of design. I'm at the end of my first year of PDE and I'm trying to switch off to do industrial design. I'm not sure PDT is the exact opposite though, I emailed the Design School admissions and they said PDT is "focussed on equipping you with the skills and knowledge of utilising a range of technologies for the creation and development of functional prototypes for manufacture, in addition to form and design communication" whereas IDT is "focussed on equipping you with skills and understanding of product form and styling, usability, design communication, and the production and use of prototypes".
hey! :D i dont know how often you check the comments but i'm thinking of applying for loughborough to do product design, do you think its one of the best uni's in the UK to study design at? im doing BTEC engineering and an A level in maths right now. very cool vid btw O_O
Honestly I wouldn’t know which uni would be best being that I’ve only studied in Lboro but I’d say it’s a nice uni to be in! (Specially if you like doing sports) I’ve got a friend in Brunel who says it’s pretty good too. Also personally I don’t think it’s even worth paying for a degree in product design.
@@lucky45666mlp so sorry I forgot to reply 😶 but YEP apprenticeship > giving design school money for education you can pretty much get for free on UA-cam
PERSONALLY: yes. BUT it depends what you're into? I can't comment much on PDE but PDT you won't really learn much about engineering (if that's why you did PDE)
@@BKYLiew I just feel like in PDE there isn't that much creativity or design. I don't want to lose this sand focus too much on engineering. So I considered PDT to have more actual product design work etc
Angel Kid nope it’s completely different, it’s basically an engineering subject with an add-on of design. Where PDT is design with a (sorta) add-on of engineering
Great video, I am also a Loughborough student and do you tube as well! 🥰
that's really cool :) nice videos!!

Hi. What’s the difference between product design and industrial design?
product is more like product technical design, industrial is more like product aesthetics design
I’m looking to joins a UK design school for industrial design or sept 2020, any recommendations which school to go to?
Oscar Marchal honestly I wouldn’t be able to say anything other than Loughborough because I don’t have any experience from any other unis!! (But from experience, Lboro and Brunel are basically the top 2 in terms of recognition when leaving DS and finding a job 😅)
BKYL what about UAL or RCA for product and industrial design?
Amazing!
Difference between PDE and PDT
What does it stand for ?

Oh right, PDE stands for Product Design Engineering, PDT is Product Design & Technology

@@BKYLiew thank u man is a apprenticeship more of a realistic choice for product design? or just a nice body of work?

@@BKYLiew no worries lol thank u tho :D 💘💘
@BKYL you planning on doing a year 3 review?
yeah ahaha but I did placement so i'm only going into third year next year!
What about now :)
I'm at lboro, studying foundation PDE and thinking about the swap to PDT, would you still recommend the swap? (I commented ages ago asking)

@@JxM4TT1NGZz yeah that case defo go PDT!
Where did review of y1 go?
check the desc! (had some warnings that the Uni/DS want to kick me out for it or something?? not too sure :/)
Are u a international Student or a citizen?
international!
Damn I’m funny 😂
Do you thing design engineering at loughborough would be really similar
Angel Kid nope it’s completely different, it’s basically an engineering subject with an add-on of design. Where PDT is design with a (sorta) add-on of engineering
hey man, cool vid
thanks :D
loool 'DMT' aka design manafacture tehcnology hahaha
Why so negative!?
Cuz that was my view at the time that I made the video? Don’t know what kinda answer you’re looking for...
