Personally I would't think of a pattern as a "principle" different from "repetition". It's the repetition of multiple elements in the design therefore it should fall under "repetition" principle category. Right?

To me, the difference between art and graphic design is that graphic design has 'rules' (or guidelines/principles), whereas art doesn't. Art is more free. Freedom to express.
