  • This is perhaps our most important episode yet! We didn't expect the kitchen to be so chock full of tips until it ran past 30 minutes. Thus, we've decided to split our Kitchen episode into two videos. This is Part 1 of 2 where we will cover four key topics - (A) how we solved a service-yard hacking issue with this wonderful solution called Cerarl Panels, (B) important design tips for mortar base and carpentry to allow accessibility of kitchen floor traps and pipes, (C) sintered stonetop tips, and (D) our super rare flush-mount sink and explain why you should consider one too.

None of the videos on LEMON8 or here show how bad the corner is, could you mind sharing? I think none of the local installers here are able to cut a nice rounded corner that matches the radius of the flushmount sink model yet..

@utubedotcom Hello! We showed close ups of the entire stone cut from 14:18 onwards~ It's hand cut so understandably won't be perfect, but we wouldn't generalise and say "none" of the local installers could do it 😅

With regards to the trimming of the sintered top for your induction cooker hob, I have the same experience except that mine is quartz stone. They basically cut a hole and lay the hob over it. No silicone or seal so that you can clean around the edges. Also in case the induction cooker spoil, you can easily change it IF your induction comes with a plug head. If wired into, then you'll have to do extra work to take it off. My induction hob came with a plug head so I made sure I have the correctly rated plug point under my countertop to plug it in.

hi! first time coming across your channel, and love how your kitchen looks! btw regarding installation of the kitchen hob, initially our contractor also told us that it can just be simply laid down on the countertop, but we thought it was strange to do so since there may be a chance of water leaking underneath the hob when we clean our countertop. so we referred to the installation guide of our hob, and it said to use a thin double-sided foam tape to seal the edges. so we got our contractor to buy the tape separately cause they threw it away during installation.
so you might wanna check the installation manual of your hob cause im not sure if it defers between brands. :)

This vid appeared on my feeds and glad to have found it. I like the practical and no-hype, lack of over-used terms for a change. Wonder why an "ID" rather than a solid contractor to project manage was involved in the first place as HDB does not allow structural changes so scope would not require interior architecture services. The home owners have such a good eye for design and novice solutions around common problems, they could have worked excellently with a good contractor to save being frustrated with an ID that was less innovative than them.

Hi! Uneven walls - yes, we got BSC to come and fix it midway through reno. But they simply eyeball it and plaster until it looks levelled. But there is a limitation because they need to taper it eventually to meet the doorframe (abit hard to explain). So it won't be perfect but just less noticeable (the walls was so uneven until the paint cracked)
Slanted ceilings / beams - they told us they cannot do anything 😅

Is it to prevent water from mopping wetting the cabinets or is there another function?

    • @thesuakus
      @thesuakus  3 місяці тому +1

Hi! Yes it's to protect carpentry from water damage in the event of flooding, but it also has other benefits like letting your feet stand comfortably when you lean into the countertop. If you have a robo, it will also not collide into the laminate and scratch it.

Most headache and most expensive is reno
Few things u need to know before commiting with any iD
    1) they MUST have their own workers
    2) they MUST have their own factory for carpentry
    A) visit their workshop
    B) check on equipments they have so to prove they have all workers needed (eg, tiling tools, electrical , plastering tools, paint , etc etc . If they have their own workers the quality of their recent projects are of same quality as those using sub con because of costing will be changed and there will be quality difference
Most iD will lie to u that it is their own workers, so when u visit u can see their workers with whose company logos … when u visit their previous project normally it is their relative or friends so don’t waste time.
There aren’t much good ID around , but if they lie I think they have already failed in the first part as they have already break your trust for them.

Just wanted to share an alternative view on the service yard. I stay in 4rm similar kitchen layout to yours. In fact mine is a bit more enclosed i would say. Anw 9 yrs in, i dont close my service yard door wheh i cook but i do close the windows sometimes cos scared oil splatter. I dont have any issues with clothes smelling after i cook (unless its like steak but for that the smell goes through the whole house). I believe the doors n windows itself already help to block off a lot of the odours so thats why.
