Any of you are renovating and need some help? Comments down below! We might be able to share some ideas together!
Which are the Taiwan sites that u recommended ?

Where did you get your invisible grilles? Is it ok to get a fixed one?
Hi Alex, I just noticed you installed “invisible grilles” that seemed to be added on, and not part of the window frame. Is that correct? Could you share more details? Thanks in advance.
Hi Alex, my budget is $25 k for a resale 5 room flat. Do u have recommendations for any good and reasonable price individual contractors?
Damn, this is an exceptionally useful video. Your earnest personality really shines through as well! Thanks Alex!
Thanks man! Catch part 2 as well
Someone recommended me to watch your channel for Reno house tips. Oh my! You have very useful info for 1st time house owner like me. This is going to be my Reno Playbook 📚. Thanks a lot.
3mins into your video and I'm alr loving it! Very practical and realistic tips and I like how you go into the details. Especially useful for first time homeowners like myself. Thank you!
Thanks! hopefully you find part 2 useful as well 😁
Super useful pointers, Alex! I’m about to renovate my place so this is damn handy. Thanks so much!
So kind of you, I’ve watched few nos of videos, your are really very concerned abt money and needs. Appreciated. Thank you Gentle Man
I am renovating and I’m just only less than 2 minutes into your video and I have to comment as you gave incredible and essential advice ! I’m definitely improvising my renovation ideas now! Thanks so much!
Haha, do check out part 2 as well!
These videos are great like a mentor, giving you pros and cons of many details people often forget getting into projects.
thanks man!
I'll be renovating my first home soon! This video is a great help!
Wow!! Im impressed on your explanation. Im currently working on my parents house.
Yes , good point on the electrical wiring and networking
Well said. You hit the nailS on all the headS. The point on hacking is so apt. When I went house hunting, I don’t even consider those whose rooms are hacked to combine. Even more so about practicality like open concept wardrobe. Also I want to mention, best to do full floor to ceiling cupboards. Don’t leave gaps especially at the top. You won’t be so free to dust it every week. I hope to hear more stories and ideas on how to coordinate with contractors when you have a rough idea of your own Design. And I totally agree the Taiwan IDs are so inspiring that local IDs hv much much catching up to do.
100% agree for full height wardrobe, its a must have carpentry work. Somehow Taiwan IDs feel more like an actual ID man.
Thanks for sharing your renovation tips! Especially useful for homeowners.
the lighting plan and data part is so helpful, thank you!
Great Video! It very useful, direct to the point and without fluff :) Great job!
thanks man!
Hey Alex, for new HDB flats (5-10 years old), there is cat6 cable running thru the walls, and you should be able to convert the telephone cable in each room into a LAN point quite easily. You can verify whether your house is LAN capable by opening up one of the telephone cable in the bedroom. If they have 4 wires connecting to RJ11 telephone port, and 2 loose cable connecting nowhere, it means you can convert that into your LAN point. This will provide more options to place a 2nd or 3rd Wireless AP in your house, improving the Wifi connectivity. Maybe you can use that for your part 2 :)
yup i'm aware of this haha, thanks for the comment!
Super useful, love your content! Definitely will recommend your channel to people in this stage of life :)
Wow, your video answers quite a few important things that ppl tend to overlook! Indeed, it took mistakes for me to notice and realised those points you mentioned e.g. electric wiring layout + sockets, data network & cabling coz most homes need more than just wifi. Great that I came across your videos, serves as reminders for me as I'm renovating my own house soon!
yeah wifi is bad for HDB due to the super thick walls
Hi Alex, thankfully in your video you reminded me to take note of electrical switch/socket placement and routing.
no problem man, glad it helps!
Thanks for sharing ur reno tips and your genuine comments. Also hard to find someone to share house reno ideas but from a more practical standpoint. Good stuff! :D
thanks man!
This is super informative! Subscribed & saved video, watched thrice too! Info overload!
Haha thanks, don't forget to catch part 2!
Of all the home renovation contents I have watched, this is the best one. It provided tons of worthwhile tips with regards to those that renos that will affects future sale. 👍

I just come across your video today and they are very helpful and well made. Great content too!
thanks man! welcome to the channel
Totally agree to look for contractors for limited budget! I’ve friends who got contractors to furnish their house & they look great too!
ya no doubt, as long as you do your research and look for the design you want
I did the same thing I outsource my design and told my contractors what I wan so I’m my own id and I saved a lot!
@@DALLEY_SANI glad to hear that!!
hi Alex, your tips are excellent. Do you mind sharing your contractor & electrician? to my email sue.kurniawan@gmail.com please.

Super agree with everything you said here! Will go and watch part 2 now haha
haha thx thx, hope you enjoy part 2 as well
I’m also following these two channels from Taiwan 🙌🏻
Yeah, their design looks so much nicer than those from sg
You are the first person I know whom also like me, never like to watch the home design ideas in Singapore! And I watches exactly the same Taiwanese UA-cam home design videos!
yup the default BTO template design
Love your tips and recommendations! Excited for part 2!
thanks bro! I'm sure you won't be disappointed
This is extremely helpful. Thanks.
Very informative and helpful video. 👍🏻
I'm a recent buyer of a resale 3ng house and looking for concepts and ideas. While there's many videos that show only the beauty and aesthetic part of decor, not many emphasizes the maintenance and practical issues and aspects. I'm so happy with the content and advise you provided and subscribed!!

so true, renotalk is full of the similar id design template. everyone house look sama sama.
that wiring plan and electrician work soo detailed! nicely done bro! Very informative thanks for sharing! Waiting for your part 2 reno tips!
haha because electrician wiring work is massive, can't screw that up. Part 2 will be even better!

Hi Alex, why u did you want to connect the electric wiring from your computer, TV and singtel device?
Sorry I'm not a IT person. :p
@@selinaloh4388 its ok I'm an IT nerd. Wired connection is faster and more stable. Wifi has a cap to the speed. For Tv, you will most likely use that for netflix or any video streaming. As for computer, it will be streaming + gaming + downloading, all these will be better with wired instead of wireless.
@@AlexTeo orh. Thank you! Very deep
@@AlexTeo How are you so well-versed in this area? I watched already, 🤯.
You should make a video on how to prepare and clean a house for rental property. It would be great for people with a rental to have a checklist to see what they should do if a renter moves out
will take that into consideration!
very practical and sound advice! thank you :)
Thanks! 😁
Very nice video. Thanks Alex. :)
Truly an inspiration! did you incorporate feng shui principles into your home?
nope haha, maybe some are incorporated without me knowing!
Awesome and valuable video u sharing here...I've been staring (got indigestion from my ID's drawing and quotation) doing loads of 3D drawing and calculation$ for my coming new home next week as well. Now with all informative video by u, lightens off my doubts and I know better of what I want for new home. 👍👍👍👍

Power la most practical tips on reno in Singapore
subscribed because you give good tips! I'm renovating a terrace house in Malaysia now and on a budget so trying to avoid engaging ID for carpentry...but it's hard to find good ID just for drawings! I totally agree that I should try mapping out the electrical and network wiring myself, but I'm so worried of putting too few plugs! Also, could you explain a bit more on the network side of things? Especially for houses with 2-3 floors? Thanks!
edit : 1 more thing, would u suggest to just go for majority smart switches when im doing all the wiring?
Once I start home automation, there is no turning back for me haha.. All my future houses will definitely do home automation. I will do everything smart switches unless you are on budget, then the small bedrooms can do without. For network, you can do mesh with 1 satellite device at every level or those wifi access points mounted on the ceiling.
Thanks for the tips ! All your content are super helpful for a first time homeowner like me. Are most of your power point and switches using concealed wiring ? (e.g. no trunking)
thanks for the sub! yup as long as they are visible, they are concealed
Great video. Thanks for sharing
damn! this is super useful and good info! thank you :)
Very well explained, the quality of the underlining network cable Eg. cat 6a/7 cabling, are those in the package?
i use my own electrician so not part of the reno package

hahah thanks!
hi!
new subscriber here. this is really informative as my fiancé and i will be getting married soon but we are not in a hurry to get a house yet. this does helps us to be well-prepared with the knowledge shared. is it possible if you could make a video of tips/guide of buying a house? bto/re-sale, financial planning & what to expect & etc. Thanks!
thanks for the support! For the video suggestion, the topic is a bit off of what my channel is about, but I will definitely think and consider about it :)
Hi Alex, thanks for the advice! have been watching your videos and really enjoying them. could you recommend a good electrician? also do they have to be licensed? Some of the people I asked gave mixed answers.
u can DM me on IG for electrician contact. I think whether to get a certified electrician is up to individual, if you are looking at wiring for the whole house i will say having the assurance is important for me. But if it's just a very simple work like tapping wiring, changing switch then I will close 1 eye
Hi Alex! Really enjoying this series as we begin our reno journey. Would you say it’s possible to stick to non smart switches etc first since we are tight on budget? Might we be able to switch it later on say a year after moving in? Thanks!
ya definitely, but for electriccal wiring you will want this done during renovation
Hi, any tips on replacing parquet with laminate flooring?
Hello Alex, i saw your electrical power plug are nicely done. I wish to have my additional power points done like yours. But my ID's electrician has advised that conceal wiring is not allow in HDB flat. Is this true? Is there a HDB rule on this? I really cannot accept wires running in casing with protruding power socket box.
sorry i replied to your email already. But ya, I totally cannot accept those big switch box with wire trunking and casing everywhere man
V. Useful tip esp. the data and power points. How did you conceal all the wiring for the data points across your living room and the various additional power plugs. Well done👏
just tell the electrician you want conceal wiring, they will find the easiest way to do it. Maybe some overlay from the floor, from ceiling/walls
@@AlexTeo , did HDB changed the rule for conceal wirings in the wall? My understanding is from a few years back it's not allowed.
Very nice, thank you. :D
thanks bro!
I thought I saw mirrored walls. I love this feature. Where did you get this done?
mirrored walls? which part of the video?
Very informative
Hi Alex, thanks for sharing the renovation tips, they are very useful especially for 1st time house owner. I am interested to get the model u have for kohler washroom vanity cabinet, notice the model is only available in Taobao CN and not kohler SG. Checked in with kohler Taobao flagship store and they do not ship to sg.
1. How do u handle the logistic to SG?
2. What if the items receive is not in good condition, what’s the return/ refund policy?
Looking forward to hear from you:)
I first saw it at bathroom warehouse, you can go check it out if you don't want to deal with Taobao. For taobao, such big bulky items you need a 3rd party forwarder, I use ezship for that but you can check out others too
Hi, Alex. Thank you very much for your videos. I would like to know more about ordering a sofa from Taobao. Does it come in single piece in a wooden crate? Do you need to install it yourself. How do you know if the package can fit in the lift? Thanks for your time.
mine comes in 2 pieces, there isn't much to 'install' a sofa, just fixing up the legs for mine that's all. Check with the seller for anything you want to clarify
Very informative thank you! Could you reference how to get a good contractor or could you refer a good contractor.
the contractor that I mention in this vid is not referring to those main contractor, I am referring to carpenter/plumber/electrician/tiler
good stuff!
i absolutely agree on wall hacking. Really think hard b4 doing it.
i would only invest a good flooring (for resale flats), only going for neutral colour, median tone, avoid white.
Remember peoples life style change.
lifestyle change at different stages of life, also think of how long you intend to stay in that property
Thanks for the great tips. May I ask what material is ur floor? Did u source it from China? Thanks!
hey fellow alex, the flooring is vinyl, its part of my renovation package
Hi Alex! Can I know where did you get the silver ledge shelf in your common bathroom from? It looks so sleek and minimalist! Thanks!
from taobao, tons of bathroom accessories to choose from
Hi Alex, great content! How much was the reno, including stuffs u bought from taobao etc?
reno itself is about 40k, all in should be around 65k
Hi Alex, you have any suggestions to conceal all the pipes inside the bathroom.
box it up?
Hi Alex, do you mind to share more on TV feature wall? Is there any storage inside? If yes, how do you open the door, as it seems blocked the TV.
DM me on IG, i can send pics to you
Bro, like very much your videos. Thank you so much for sharing all these. I am about to renovate 4-room BTO, with 94m2 only. I like your study room and I want to copy it. But I worry that my living room will be left with no space, especially as I have 2 sets of desks with 2 and 4 monitors respectively. Do you think I can have study room as nice as yours with such small house I have?
You will probably have to hack one common room else you have to sacrifice dining or sofa area
Do you mind showing us how you hide your tv console wires? and cable management tips and tricks? , what if you have ps4?
future videos i will see any chance to mention about this
My take on cove lighting that’s quite popular in living and dining rooms… if decor style does not suit it … it certainly can look “orbit/O-piang”. Plus added bonus of having a haven for lizards to colonise in your home. Yucks.
Same, I also prefer Taiwan ID
Hi Alex, can you share all the videos from the TW youtube channel which inspired you to design your house this way? Curious to find out about the original video. Thanks in advance!
i didn't have the links already, in the future i might do a video on this then i go search
Hi, may I know what application do you use to draw your floor plan digitally?
Yo Alex! Saw your house @ HomeTrust.
Home trust?!?!?
Thanks for sharing some useful tis for home renovation.
I myself engaged a contractor for my 3rm flat that really helps me to save some cost.
As I'm currently still working from home, would like to know if your computer desk is adjustable(with height)?
I'm wondering if it's a good choice to invest in an ergonomic computer chair with better support or a desk with adjustable height which allows me to stand and work at the same time.
I heard some reviews online that SecretLab chair's cushion is made of PU leather, and it is not durable as it peels under such humid weather in Singapore.
if you need to make a choice between chair or table then I will say chair is more important. Adjustable table is good when you are feeling sleepy haha. I'm a supporter of secret lab, finally settled down with this chair for more than 3 years already after trying so many 'office' chairs. They now have a PU leather 2.0, I guess that's more lasting. It is also how you maintain and take care of the chair. Let me know if you are getting one, can use my affiliate link lolx
@@AlexTeo thanks for the advice.
I’ve seen some manufacturers trying to sell the idea of having an adjustable desk to allow people who are sitting too long to stand up and to maintain a good back posture. Anyway, I do agree that having a good ergonomic chair is highly important. My other question would be since Secretlab chair is made of leather, do you feel warm after sitting for a few hours?
Coz leather material tends to feel a little bit warmer compared to mesh material.
@@davidtan260 mesh will make you hot and itchy, and all sorts of nonsense dirt will get stuck on the mesh netting. I rather take fabric than mesh. But definitely leather all the way for me
Hi Alex, can give me some suggestions as my tiler insists that I must make curd for the shower which I really don’t like. I like your one without curb. Will the water splash out or zip out from the silicone?
nah no such problems
thanks!
Nice home & handsome owner
you are too kind haha
You mentioned the ID is more of a technical advisor and project coordinator. In your case, were the designs and color choices primarily by you?
ID will give u the selection choices from their suppliers, give their suggestions but in the end you have to make that decision
1:00 haha guilty as charged. We are converting our 4R BTO into a 1BR. Somehow nothing anyone says about resale value will change my mind. In order to get the kind of space we really want, we'd need to move to a landed house, but we'd need to be so much richer to afford a landed house that I don't think the 100-200k difference in resale proceeds from our BTO will be our primary concern. On your channel you (rightfully) advocate practicality, functionality and cost-effectiveness. But I need to feel an intensely personal connection to my home and I don't think I could be happy knowing I could have done something really interesting with the floor plan but chose not to because of resale value.
how about a 5room BTO? haha no need to feel personal, I am just giving my 2cents based on the general public, of course there can be some unique exception like your case
@@AlexTeo Oh of course, I'm not taking this personally! "But what about the resale value" is an objection we get all the time so I'm just sharing my own feelings. We did seriously consider 5R, but they weren't an option in the areas we were considering (either too expensive or not available) so we went with 4R instead.
Thanks Alex!👍
Can I please have the ID details? Your design really turns out so well in your hdb flats! I tried giving ID the design I want but they ended up changing quite alot to the "sg template"

Hi Alex, can I kindly ask how many routers are you using in total? Understanding that you put your router in study room, are you able to receive signal in the master bedroom as it need to go through 3 walls?
