Hello fellow sua kus! We share more about Marble Gum vs Epoxy Grout, and tile suitability in our Bedroom episode here: ua-cam.com/video/H8UstyNBPEM/v-deo.html
thanks for sharing this! the floor really looks super duper nice~
Thank you for sharing this video🙏it is sure very useful🙏
Hello there! You are most welcome!! 🥰
Thank you so much got sharing. I don't even know this thing exist!
You are most welcome!! 😀 this is still our best reno decision!
Looks great!
Thank you!! 🥰 We are a huge fan of your vlogs!! 😍
Looking great! Lets wait and see when the whole house gets smart.
Ahah thanks Rennie! Yes, we'll be introducing our smart home set up someday 😀
Wow!!! I want to do this too! ❤
Yesss marble gum is one of our best reno decisions! 😄
Hi!! Love your videos! Have been very helpful :) May I ask about how much did this cost you?
Hello there! Thanks for your support. It is about 1.4k for a HDB 4-room living and dining area :) You can reach out to Mr Siah for more info!
This is so cool. Thank you for this video.
🤩 Thanks for watching!!
Looks great! Based on your video, it seems that it is 1 big seamless piece. Will we still see grout lines or it just blends into the background?
Hello! If you look closely, grout lines will still be visible (some areas more obvious than others) but the most important thing is that we can no longer feel the lines, it is one big seamless piece.
Ahh i see... based on video it seems like no lines... so there still is..
How is the maintenance and shine so far?
@@tornados117 Loving it every day 😀 One of our best reno decisions made! Shine can last for years (subject to your lifestyle / pets) and we will prob just let it dull off naturally with time.
Any where able to see the faint lines of the grout?
Hi, thanks for sharing. Can i check if it is lasting?
Hi! Yes one year in and it is still as good as new. Naturally the shine will dull off in 5 to 10 years but you can always choose to repolish it or live with it 😃
Hi, i have a few questions to ask and hoping you could share more with us. Your videos are very informative and helpful.
1. Is your living room floor finish polished porcelain tiles and you applied marble gum to your living room?
2. What is the reason for doing the marble gum first before all the renovation works commence?
3. We observed that you removed the vinyl strip flooring for the 2 bedroom. Did you requested Riche Stone Care to come back a second round to do the marble gum for these bedrooms?
4. If yes to question 3, why did you not considered removing the vinyl strip flooring first, lay the floor tiles for the bedrooms and do the marble gum for all the living room and bedroom floors at one go?
Thank you for taking the time to read and answer our questions. We are in the midst of our renovation journey and would like to take your pointers in our planning as we have just began.
Hello there! 😀
1. Yes, we shared more details about suitability in our Lemon8 post here : s.lemon8-app.com/al/mbpUhvykQR
2. It is advised to do this first when the home is bare and "clean". When you have carpentry in, the machines movements will be limited and also the wet process may damage your carpentry. Also, those areas under carpentry won't be marble gummed so one day if you dismantle the carpentry, the floor will look different
3. Our bedrooms do not have marble gum. They are epoxy grouted. No point doing marble gum for bedroom as the visible floor is minimal and you can't achieve the nice effect 😀
Hiii. You mentioned that the process took away the silicon for ur skirting. How did you resolve it? Did the riche stone care team redo it for you or had to inform bsc? Or diy?
Hello! Yes, forgot to include in the video but Mr Siah immediately scheduled for the workers to return the next day to redo the silicon skirting for the entire living/dining room. BSC unlikely to help since this is caused by reno works :)
Hi there! Am interested in getting this for my house, but am concerned and what the final feel will be like. Can you share more about that?
Hello! This is the best reno decision we made. No regrets till today :) It feels like one big seamless floor, and is not slippery unless there is a puddle (which would be unlikely if you use a robo cleaner!)
Will marble gum polishing compromise the durability of the tiles? Eg if it is contact with harsh chemical like bleach or pet vomit which is highly corrosive. Will it erode more or less easily than the original tile?
Thanks.
Hello! So far no issues for us 😀 Doggo pee and vomit have been on it for hours before and it is all good. Our robo uses biohome floor detergent which is pet and baby safe with no harsh chemicals!
Hi Suakus, my BTO is polished porcelain floor tiles from OCS, is this the same as yours? We want to get the same effect as you but not sure if our tiles can do marble gum.
Hello there! To be sure, you can contact Mr Siah and he will come down to do on-site assessment FOC 😃 if you look at the side of the tile, so long as the surface design is at least 3mm (i.e. half body homogenous) it can be marble gummed. We explained more in our Bedroom episode (timestamp 3 : 37) so do check it out!
did u get any answers? mine is polished porcelain too
Will Marble gum overwrite the existing patterns on your tiles (if any) after the final polish?
Nope, this is why only homogenous tiles should be marble gummed (minimally half-bodied) 😄
Nice👍🏻
Thank you!! 🥰
Hi Sua Kus, thanks for the sharing, it’s wonderful. I have a qns to ask, as I seen you did the marble gum polishing as the 1st step before the other renovations.
1. Is it good for this polishing to be done most initially?
2. Would you have arranged the polishing at another stage of works?
This is because I am also planning to polish my floor. I am not ascertain at which stage should I plan it.
Just hope to hear from your experience! Thank you! 😊
Hi there! Glad you found it useful :)
Yes, for BTO with HDB OCS tiles, it is highly recommended to be done right at the start because the house is empty (you can see the amount of machinery and water used)
For other cases (if you can time it well), you can do it right after tiling works and first round of general cleaning (i.e. house floor has to be free of reno waste and foreign objects like screws lying around). Just make sure it is done before carpentry is installed.
can check so far any issues? i heard from feedback that there are some small black spots spotted?
Hello! So far so good no issues at all! :)
Hi, does the marble gum treatment make the floor slippery ? we have older folks at home.
Hello! Actually, in terms of slip resistance, we couldn't really tell the difference before/after :)
How is it after a few months? I heard from others who did it, the tiles become very sticky and frictional after some cleanings.
I don't think its meant to ever become sticky or frictional 😅 Perhaps their contractor wasnt skilled. We run our robo every day and its as good as new - one of the best decisions we did for our home reno!
Hi, will there be any visible swerve circle mark especially under lighting after doing marble gum and polishing on the tiles?
Hello there, mmm not sure what you mean! 🤔
@@thesuakus Meaning to say under lighting are there any reflective swirling circle on the tiles? Cause they are using the heavy machine “disk plate” to do the polishing on the tile.
Is it possible to lay marble gum on non beige tiles? Like grey homo tiles?
Is maintenance troublesome? Will it scratch the flooring if you use Dyson or robot vacuum?
Heya! Yes, all glossy homogeneous tiles can. My friend (who was the one who introduced Mr Siah) have it for some 3+ years now with vacuum, robo and all, no maintenance issues 😀
Hi , may i know if the original OCS tile you have is "polished porcelain tiles with laminated UPVC skirting (optional)"?
Yes! So long as it has at least 3mm of surface design, it can be marble gummed. :)
@@thesuakus Sorry. A bit new to BTO reno topic. Does it mean I have to let the HDB officer know that I need 3mm of surface design for my OCS flooring during my BTO flat selection unit?
Nooo, all OCS tiles are fixed. You can't change it.
On the topic of marble gumming, not all tiles can be marble gummed. Only full-bodied homogenous tiles or half-bodied homogeneous tiles with at least 3mm of surface design can be marble gummed. Tiles that are printed cannot be marble gummed as the design would be grinded away. We run through this in our Bedroom episode so do check it out! 😃
Hello! Can I check if you had also replaced the skirting in the living room? If yes, what did you replace with? Thank you
Heya! Yes we did :) we used the same HDB tiles to make the skirtings and definitely one of our better decisions made in this reno journey 😀 do check out our tiling episode to see more!
Thanks for your reply! Did your ID help to do the replacement or Riche stone care? Also, did you used the spare tiles? Were there enough for the living area? :)
@@luminaryxx this would be by ID! They will source for the extra tiles
@@thesuakusi, did you just say you had replaced the original laminate skirting with porcelain tile skirting? How did you get rid of the tile grouting line on the skirting? Marble gum again? Thanks
Hi! Mr Siah kindly did epoxy grout for the skirting too whilst they were on-site doing the epoxy for the bathrooms, kitchen and bedrooms 😀
possible to have a matte surface after marble gum?
Hello! 😀 Marble gum polishing is typically for glossy homogenous tiles. After 5-10 years, the shine will gradually fade and polishing can be done again
Hi, curious if this can be applied for kitchen and toilet tiles as well
Hello! For most kitchen and bathrooms, usually the surface area would be too small for the Marble Gum effect. Also, the tiles used in kitchen and bathrooms are usually the matt / non-glossy types. We will be going for epoxy grouting instead and will showcase it in a later video 😃
Hi! Did your vendor charge you for touch up post reno ar? Cos if so before carpentry might have scratches right?
Oh and also, if he touch up, he will bring all his equipment and repolish from scratch?
Hello! No extra charge 😀 We asked the vendor before engaging them. They will use handheld tools~
How is the floor holding up?
Hello! As good as new 😀 this is still our best reno decision!
Is this allowed for BTOs or will it void the warranty?
Yes, allowed :) The waterproofing system warranty (5-years) is only for kitchen and bathrooms to cover your liabilities in the event there is a ceiling leak in the neighbouring unit below you, caused by your unit.
@@thesuakus nice. Can't wait to see the final look!
So can we enter the unit after the whole process done end of the day or we can only come in the next day?
Hi! Yes at the end of the process the floor is actually cleaned up and steppable but encouraged not to do any works for 1 or 2 days at least!
Hello! May I know whether the works were all done within a day? Did you have to leave the floor untouched to dry for a few days after it's done?
Hello! Yes it was done within a day. It is technically dry and steppable immediately after, but advised to leave it alone for 1 day. 😀
@THE SUA KUS I see thanks for the reply!! Cuz I have furniture from taobao on the way so I'm in a dilemma on when to do marble gum grouting 😪
@j0celyn94 ahah definitely better to do it when the house is as empty as possible as there are alot of equipment and wet process.. maybe shift everything loose to the other rooms first 😀
Hi, does doing marble gum void the hdb flooring warranty?
Nope, of course not.. 😁The BTO 5-year warranty is voided only if floor tiles are replaced or waterproofing tampered in bathrooms or kitchen.
@@thesuakusSo if we do marble gum for kitchen does it void the flooring warranty? Haha.
@@han9492 nope, the waterproofing is quite deep beneath so the only way it is tampered is the actual hacking and removing of the HDB OCS tiles. also, suggest not to marble gum in kitchen because of the small surface area once your carpentry is in (minimal effect) and also HDB OCS kitchen tiles are usually matte.
@@thesuakushi! may i check if your tiles are the original hdb tiles? i.e. Polished porcelain tiles?
Hi! Yes, the HDB OCS tiles (semi homogenous)
Hi. Can i ask how did you coordinate marble gum with the ID?
Hello! We self sourced so this was not through our ID~
@@thesuakus thanks for replying! i'm trying to self source too. So you got the marble gum done before getting the ID in to measure etc? was there any issue with scratches to the floor after reno? thank you (:
Yup! Marble gum can be done either at the very start or at the very end. Both options got pros and cons. There were equipment, screws and nails all over our house during reno that pierced the protection paper and heavy tiles thrown around. When we saw these, we knew once we start cleaning we will surely see dents or scratches in our tiles and we were right. We have asked Mr Siah to help touch up after reno is complete!
That being said, if don't have marble gum right, the same dents will appear on the original tiles also so its quite inevitable.
@@thesuakus hiii. So you paid extra for the touchup?
So this last only 3-5 years only? After 5 years what will happen?
Hello! Just like marble flooring, it will just dull over time and it's optional for you to polish it to restore the shine 😃
will the floor be slippery?
Hello! Actually, in terms of slip resistance, we couldn't really tell the difference before/after :)
Do u have the contact for marble gum flooring
Hello! Yes, you can contact Riche Stone Care (Mr Siah: +65 9367 8828). Don't forget to quote { TSK5OFF } for 5% off!
You can also watch the previous episode for the step by step process of marble gum 😀
Can marble gum do with hdb tile ?
Hello! So long as glossy, homogenous tile / tile surface at least 3mm design, then no issues. Mr Siah's team will come on-site to assess prior so no worries there.
How you rectify the skirting silicon? Because obviously bsc won’t do it as it’s not a defect
Hello! The vendor (Riche Stone Care) came down the next day to redo the silicon for the entire area for us 😄
@@thesuakus oh phew! That’s a relief to hear! I was considering of doing this and after seeing the silicon situation almost thought of not getting it done. Good to know they will help rectify the skirting silicon! Do I just give the promo code to their sales rep?
Aha should have mentioned that in the video.. Yes! You can contact Mr Siah at 9367 8828 with the quote TSK5OFF 😀
Looks good but it doesnt last forever one
Aha the marble gum can last but it's shine will fade and may require you to optionally polish it again in say 10 years time
Hello may I know how much does it's cost
Hi! We share more over here on our Lemon8: s.lemon8-app.com/al/mbpUhvykQR

Hi, May I know the price for doing this 🙈 thank you!

I would suppose not all tiles can work with this.
Yes, glossy homogenous tiles with at least 3mm surface layer
@@thesuakus how long will your marble gum last? does it need any repolishing a few years later?
what material/compound is used?
@@shurakishi4707 The flushed grout-less finish won't change. As for the shine, would say around 5 to 10 years before it gets dull? Can choose to live with it, or put in a couple hundred for simple repolishing🙂
As for materials, typical mastic and marble polishing creme were used.
@@thesuakus the problem then will be once you start living in the flat and place other items or furniture around it won’t be that easy to move them around for the repolishing. From your video, it seems that quite abit of heavy machinery is needed for the work
Don't think it would be an issue as the polishing/buffering machine is the smaller, more mobile one which is used for marble polishing in most homes. In hard to reach areas, they would use the handheld one 😃 that being said, we will probably just let it dull naturally over time
omg, this is really chio..
Yesss it really is one of our better decisions so far! 😍
@@thesuakus the grout line totally dissapear or ? able to have a more zoomed in video haha
@@tjyd2a3 Aha if you squat down and look closely, you can see the lines but you can't feel it anymore. PM us on IG @thesuakus and we can share with you a vid! 😃
