@@onedriftyboy Its also about time! If 3d Artists had 5x more time to spend on their environment, lighting, and modelling, games would look alot better. But as of right now, its not justifiable for the company to spend that much time and money on their art.

As a local lofoten resident, this first came to my (weird) mind: No one would build a cabin of this type here. Perhaps if it stood on pillars and been properly anchored. This cabin would probably have been washed away by big waves or wind in the first autumn/winter storm, it is located without shelter from the wind (trees, outcrops etc) on a small very exposed islet. And the cabin is too far down to the sea, indicated by the seaweed. Normal high tide is too close to the cabin. If there is a large high tide, the cabin would probably be under water. (Sorry to say that..).
But.. it LOOKS extremely good!! Very believable and beautiful! Impressive how meticulous you are with the details, fantastic job! Thank you so much for this gem of a video!! :)

My grandfather was born on the Skrova Island, Lofoten in 1926 I believe. He used to tell stories, life was as hard as you could imagine for a society like this one back in the day but he was also blessed to have been able to grow up in such a special place in that specific time. He later became a pastor and the best of men. Their childhood home is still standing and my parents visit sometimes. Hopefully I'll be able to go and check it out one day myself but I can assure you that there's no doubt that anyone who makes the journey won't regret it.

I need to comment on this. I'm 49 years old now, but many years ago I secured a place at a Univesity in the UK to study Game Design. I told my parents at the time, and they immediately shut me down, and told me there was no money in it. I wasn't concerned about money. I felt I had a real passion for it from playing and marveling at graphics from thousands of games starting with the ZX81, Atari ST, into the PC 486 towers with voodoo 3d cards, up to the latest PC hardware.
I didn't take the course, I was living at home at the time and didn't have much choice in the matter. I'm happy with what I do now, it's not much but I get by. When I watched your video today I felt that pull, and imagined that I could possibly do what you are achieving if I had just stood my ground all those years ago. I have never come across your Channel before, it just appeared on my home page and i'm glad I found you. To you young un's out there, if it feels right and you have a passion for it whatever it may be, chase it down and do it. You will regret it later on in life I promise you.

The best water so far I have seen in UE, still somehow weird at costal line (no waves breaks, no foam, no wet spots after withdrawal, too fast animation). And yes, I know water is ultra hard to simulate in 3D. Problem is anything else in UE looks almost real, water is like a fist in the eye by default.

Coming from TV, I knew nothing about how those renderings were done. I am blown away not only by the end result, but by the artistic process involved. In the end, the only thing that really gives this away as a synthetic creation is how the water looks at the very edge, where it interacts with the rocks. I suppose that's a limitation of the technology used. But if that's all that is missing to create truly photo-realistic renderings, I think we can all agree the technology has matured extremely well!
Thanks for introducing me to your universe and sharing your artistic process. This is inspiring for a lot of us creators, be it in the real world or the digital realm. :)

agreed, and the camera shake makes it look artificial too, anyone shooting with a gimbal or slider and a 50mm and 85mm lens is going to use native camera stabilization to get rid of exactly what he put back in the shot. The camera shake on his render doesn't make it look real, it makes it look like a video game.

@@thecalloftheroad it’s not that people that use those lenses would get rid of the shake irl, I think it looks “fake” because well 1, the shake itself isn’t very human like, probably better to actually capture human camera shake and import that to the unreal camera instead. Then also the camera shake is not really motivated, especially the medium shot with the title card. because of the drone shot it kinda made it look like the medium shot was being shot from the middle of the air / water but somehow we’re supposed to believe a person is holding it.

Man, im not an 3d modeller, a graphical design or something like that. I dont even have a high end PC to do things like this.
But i can watch these kind of video's for hours! it's so intressting to see how every thing come toghther from 'just' a 'few' pictures!
    Thanks for this video!!!

We often take these graphicdemos for granted, so thanks for showing the process behind a seemingly short clip. I can imagine for you its an amazing way to keep a memory of that place which makes me wonder what 3D scan-devices are gonna do in a few years.

Props to UA-cam's algorithm for sliding this into my recommendations since I'm a machinist at work and when I get home I'm mostly a consumer of digital creations like video games and movies.
This is somewhat mind-bending to me, honestly. I love it, but I doubt I'll ever use any of this myself - apart from the basic concept of framing a photography subject, maybe 😀
Solid explanations of the different software choices and settings, though.
I've been to Norway many times in my life, but it's been 90% skiing, so I haven't spent a lot of time in the coastal areas even though they are gorgeous.

I don't know why UA-cam recommended this video to me (I mostly work in music and sound production) but I watched the whole thing and found it mind-blowing! Also, I lived in Sweden for many years and the look/feel/color ("falu rödfärg") of the cabin is just right. Really great video.

Huge thanks for the immense effort you put into your tutorials and videos. The clarity of your delivery is outstanding, and your ability to de-techify complex concepts makes your content incredibly accessible. It's rare to find tutorials that strike the perfect balance between technical depth and easy comprehension, but you've nailed it. Your approach not only makes the information easier to absorb but also makes learning genuinely enjoyable. Whether tackling advanced topics or breaking down the basics, your videos are a go-to resource for anyone looking to improve their skills in a stress-free, engaging way. Keep up the fantastic work!
    Diolch! (Welsh for 'Thanks")

Fantastic tutorial super inspiring. For those wanting to quickly check their image alignment while on site. Set you camera to shoot RAW and a medium JPG output. You can then just copy only the JPGs from your SD card straight into Reality Capture to check only the alignment. This will help you fill in any gaps you may have missed or rescan an location that needs some more overlap. With the low quality JPGS it shouldn't take long to process on a regular laptop. You can also downscale the images before alignment within RC alignment settings to between 2-4. Happy photogrammetry-ing.

UA-cam recommended this video to me. The quality of these clips and of course the video itself is insane! Great video! If I were a 3D artist myself this channel is propably a must have. I am a software engineer so it is not necessarily my field, but I used to use unreal engine and Unity3D, so the concepts used in this video were familiar.
