Step1: Build a complicated and diverse army to strategize against the enemy.
Step2: Lose.
Step3: Choose lizardmen and create a dinoball doomstack.
Step4: Alarielle declares war on you and bring 2 full stacks of sisters of avelorn
@@iamvan7243 He was talking about MP!
I’m new to the game coming from Rome 2 and other historical total wars, and I don’t really understand magic much. I tried to create a balanced army but it didn’t really go too well in battles against any quality armies. So I just started spamming lothern sea guard and put em in guard mode in checkerboard formation and it works wonders lol.
@@marcgw496 Thanks man, trying this :D
I feel it. Gor rok steam roll
I love how you don't teach a specific strategy or set-up, but instead talk about a mindset/a way of thinking that can apply to any situation. As a new player, I definitely needed this
Starts video:
Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen. I will not lie, the chances of your survival are small - some may even turn against your friends as living corpses... But you have my word that I will use my arcane gifts to ensure your bodies are given unto Morr's garden. This is the greatest reward, more than even gold, for the fate of your soul is an eternal concern! Now, come. Follow me, strike down the Undead that rise against us, allow me to find this eldritch amulet. I ask not for my own selfish studies, but for the good of the Empire!
You don't get to be grand-arch-wizard-mage-lord-magus-sorceror by being charismatic, you get it by being good at magic.
It's kind of like being head of the department of energy, an extremely complex job, vital to the nation, important decisions, you hire OTHER people to give presentations for you.
@@madlarkin8 Ironically it is implied that Gelt bribed his way into becoming the supreme patriarch, which is much more realistic.
Pog
Best shortcut / command most people don't know about is that you can select unit/units and then hold CTRL and draw a path with your right click on the mouse > which is especially great if you want to navigate some fast cavalry in between enemy units without engaging or colliding with them or also good for planning flanking path. Go try it out. I use it almost every battle if not every battle.
Thank you!
Thats what that is?! im flabbergasted, i was wondering why the hell there was a Hangman MiniGame in Warhammer lmao
To me, that little "Armour Piercing" symbol always looks like those winged turtle enemies from Super Mario.
I can't unsee it now
@@battleland7263 Sorry...
The koopa. :-D
Loops troopas too iconic
Oh, now that's engraved now
Me watching this with 500 hours in the game lol
I have 1.5k and I still watched it. I was going to point out things he could explain better or other feedback but I'm pretty satisfied with this video. He really did cover all of the basics real well.
same lol

The thing I took away from this video is that next time I play rock-paper-scissors, my artillery infused paper will win against those puny scissors.
"I'm gonna have to rush them, if I'm ever going to have a chance." Sounds like any balanced battle as Norsca.
Great video, btw!
I can never have enough of Zerks excellent guides. Thank you good man.
Greenskin cav: weak
Every competitive greenskin player ever when spamming spider-rider archers:
*UNLIMITED POWER!*
Bc you were once there too. Don't forget
Ohhh, a battle guide for 2021. I needed this XD
Got this game for free on epic a few months ago. I've never tried playing anything like this before, and this is easily the best series of guides.
One thing I would add is that not every winning Matchup is also a good one. Of course your Chosen will wreck Skavenslaves all day long, but it's still not a good Matchup when on the other side of the Battle Stormvermin chew through your army and your Chosen eventually rout. I find the newly implemented "damage value" extremely helpful for this.
Man, I really, REALLY wanted to see you try out that Dark elves vs Greenskins matchup. Fantastic video, learnt so much!
Gelt, random wizard, random witch hunter: walk 'n chill
Gotrek, random captain: guys slow down!
Great guide overall, however I do think it is very important to realize after some time that not everything is just about the matchups. Several builds are based on the concept of carry units and support units (like hellblaster - carry, empire knight - support for the hellblaster to slow down the advance of the enemy), and I think that this is an important concept to understand as a beginner especially in multiplayer.
Easy enough, High Tier is better than Low Tier
So why are Grom Gobbos eating my Hammerers?
Because Grom buffs the absolute hell out of of Gobbos.
Because Grom gobbos are actually Goblins (Chosen)
Same reason they were eating my chosen
Because they're hungry.
It's just how greenskin are man... You can't predict what could they do to you...
Q: What's a bad match up for clanrats?
A: Yes.
Not a beginner but just wanted to add a comment for support because your videos helped me become a much better at the game.
Looking forward to your vids on the factions in wh3 :)
Thanks! I just started playing and I am really struggling in combat. This is a big help!
I'm sure you're a true threat on the battlefield by now lmao
this was very helpful, i just started (as skaven cool rat people) and got clapped
i am now the lizard pepel and with some basic advice managed to do pr good, up til turn 25 or smth, weewoo lol
Wow what comes before beginner lol, so much to learn, thanks for the great video!
Did Zerk ever fight turin in multiplayer? Would be interesting to watch.
My money is on Turin. No offense Zerk, we love you. :D
That will be a good and more content since zerk love multiplayer..doesn't care who's win or lose.. that what multiplayer about.. win win situation in my opinion for zerk and turin..
@@mistercat141 Thats for sure.
@@stepanvejvoda2725 Not trying to show of but as it happens i have played both turin and zerk and i must say that the single match vs turin was harder. I also think zerk would agree from what he always says on streams he doesn't see himself as a top mp player atm.
I like Zerk, but it's just an objective fact that Turin would eat him alive.
Perfect content. Very nice smooth speaking. Always repeat what's important. Really enjoyable
Fantastic video my friend. Thanks for the education!
Dude. You are the fuckin man.
I’ve been playing total war since I was in elementary school (first Rome 1, then starting up again with shogun 2 in college when I rediscovered the game)
Do I love the games? Yep. Do I consider myself family with them? Sure. Will I watch this video anyway and take notes while I do it? YOU BET YOUR ASS!!
Seriously every time I think you’ve covered all the topics you need to... you release another video. This stuff for beginners, the quick battles, the why you lost videos, the faction guides...
You da real MVP
Thank you for multiple, clear examples of the Matchup Concept! Not a lot of tutorial makers do that
Tbh started multiplayer a month ago and don’t wanna go back to campaign. And no I am not good at all, but at least I enjoy it.
Thx for content Zerk.
Same lmao
Perfect video, very well explained thank you
The core strategy is to mix a few elite units with a bunch of "plebes" to spam and get in the way of the enemy. Eg 10 pikemen/swordsmen units mixed with cannons, handgunners, knights, Hippogryph lord, wizard. Just spread the pikemen all over the place while your firearms tear everyone to shreds. Same with 7 zombies, 4 skeletons, plus black knights, vargheists, terrorgheist, dragon vampire lord. Spread zombies everywhere, while your fast and flying creatures gang up on them from behind, routing them one by one. VERY fun 😂😂
Well now we have a video to recommend to every new player who asks for help on the reddit :)
finally a video that makes sense.. thank you
I think a really interesting series for yourself could be good and bad matchups with some tips and tricks for each faction. A lot of work though so I'd understand if you don't, I think that would be super useful for new players. Love the content pal, keep up the good work. 🙂
Love your content. What I would love to see more of:
1) Some online battles you play and loose. Even in defeat there could be much to learn from. Plus it makes your videos less predictable.
2) Some online battles you play as a good guy. It’s mostly Greenskins, Skavens, Chaos, Dark Elves all around. Not too much variety.
3) Some defensive builds you successfully deploy. Not every faction is best equipped for steamrolling over the oponent.
To be fair, you say the Chaos Marauders (and goblins and skinks, for example) are crap, but they are shielded and as such very good at running at archers and other missile units.
The number of games I've won by having my Marauders just off chasing some waywatchers while the rest of my army get to fight without being shot is high!
(I appreciate you were simplifying for the video's sake, but I thought it was worth leaving this here in case anyone finds it useful.
Lets Appreciate
This Battle Guide really help a lot for those who beginner and professional Total War Warhammer 2 players, and for those who didnt want to read a lot of guidebooks.
Thank you for the advice!
6:28 Eleven lord: "Ok. My unit's going to lose here"
If you don't release the CTRL key after rotating your formation your army will walk. So if you want your army to run, either release control after rotating, or press R with your walking units selected
Outstanding videos! You make amazing content.
These are so good to watch! I'm getting the game for the first time, tonight! (With all the expansions). I've got an affinity with playing the Tomb Kings and Dark Elves - from what I've seen so far
I've seen all your beginner guides but by watching this will allow me to stray further away from a beginner.
I also started making save points every few turns, because i might 'blunder' on the campaign map :P
played the game for years, this guide is great!
7:01 - That Elf Lord going for glory! made me laugh.
Zerk! Thank you! This vid was sooooo helpful, as I am a new player and struggle with exactly the points that you addressed here. I do wish that there was a handy, well-organized pdf for keyboard commands that I could place next to my computer--something easier to read than the big list in the TW Guide. Also, spells! I get overwhelmed with all the overlapping ability and spells symbols at the bottom of a unit card. I hope for TW3 that CA reorganizes this and implements design changes tomake learning unit powers easier for newer players. Finally, were that it were possible for beginners like me to be able to simply hit the spacebar to pause the game in order to make sense of all the info on the battlefield. Is there a mod out there that would enable this? If not, could you use your godlike powers to influence CA for these improvements? I love the customizability of TW; however, the learning curve has been daunting, honestly. Thanks again for making these vids. Sooooo helpful.
unless you play on legendary you can just press pause and assign commands to your units or even queue up spells, just hit P
I started playing the campaign a little while back, but I still suck too much at real-time micro-ing to try multiplayer yet (fine with battles but I'm currently too used to being able to pause or slow to handle maneuvers). However, one other thing that puts me off multiplayer is the rules/etiquette. Cheese may be fine in campaign but there are various things that appear to be frowned upon in multi and I wouldn't want to unintentionally be *that* guy. Some may be obvious (corner camping etc.) but others less so setting up towards the back of the map is sometimes just to take advantage of terrain/max the killzone for artillery, but could also be seen as artificially preventing flanking. I see limits mentioned on the proportion of large single entities/heroes/missile units etc. within a single army, but have no idea what they are!. Is 'stacking' of a particular buff acceptable? I' gather it isn't for fear/leaderhip debuffs but what about e.g. physical resists, ward saves, dmg buffs etc? Is there a guide to this sort of thing anywhere?
You can always join the discords and arrange a match to learn, drive.google.com/file/d/1blvwkYSM3l7KW2Zf6t2Nra4eY7MSjP4d/view?usp=sharing are the banner rules many tournaments use
Don't mind the "etiquette", no-one bothers with it in Quick Battles. People only use rules in multiplayer lobbies (in which they will state their rules, but there are rarely any) or tournament/community Discords which use their own specific rulesets. Besides that anything goes in Quick Battles, besides the hard-coded unit limitations set by CA themselves- you wouldn't be able to breach them even if you wanted to. Basically just follow your own gameplan and don't run like a coward, but I can guarantee you someone will use some sort of abuse against you or complain about your legitimate tactics eventually. And no there are no rules that ban the stacking off buffs and so on.
1. Pick dwarfs.
2. BOX formation
3. Go AFK
Works 6/10 times
Thanks for making this one Zerk. I've been sending every new player I come across to your channel for your videos and I'm sure this will make a great addition to those.
Yesterday i have changed the fate of my army from Decisive defeat to Phyrric Victory.
Not a small feat i guess for a beginner.
Battling is always good. Auto resolve is just bad...
even in a clearly unfair advantage for your own side, auto resolve is just too much of a wild card lmao
That: o Scheiße, caught me off guard xD
Thank you for this video. I have watched several videos like this on battle mechanics and tips in Warhammer 2 but this video stuck with me the most because of how you clearly broke down battles as a series of matchups.
ALT+LMB
You are my hero.
Can you do another whos the best for ranged units? Wasnt sure where to ask this at
Thanks for the Closed Captions.
Zerk this was a pretty good video my man. Keep up the excellent work.
This was so helpful thank you for making this video.

*Laugh in skaven slave*
Great video dude, thanks
incredibly helpful guide, thank you so much. really really upset you didnt show the fight between the dark elves and orcs though
Thank you, this video was superb
Love your work by the way. Good
Luck in the new year.
Quality stuff zerk!
Step1: Make a complicated optimized formation
Step2: Rigth click my entire army without locking formation
Step3: Line formation bois!
Really nice and logical explanations! Many thanks!!
Strategy vids are always good for new and old players
Its the replacement of the battle line mechanic with match ups that takes away a lot of the sense of satisfaction and achievement in modern TW titles for me.
Great vid as always though Zerk.
What do you mean?:)
@@MasterChiefPettyOfficer
That essentially it now feels like a series of little isolated scraps taking place rather than an actual battle.
8:45 'they hit so goddamn hard they can beat the crap out of a dragon ' lol
i love the minotaur's for flank
This could help thank you
Love this video and your content! Thanks
Thanks for this! Very useful
Although I have 500+ hours I still watch it.
Okay, the only problem is I don't know all the good and bad matchups. I'm super new so Idk the names of the soldiers I'm sending out lol
I love your vioce - I love your videos- I just love you as a person - pls keep doin this videos I love them
10:10 XD as a german that was a nice one

Nice guide.
Good stuff. Thank you.
great vid thanks
Insanely helpful video with a ton of useful information for a noob like me.
Does anyone know the mod he is using to draw those lines on the map like that?
Aaand there is high Elves wihch have
Good Infantry
Good Missiles
Good Cavalry

Dragon Royale
Star of Free HP
this games so freakin cool lol
The "Oh Scheiße" made me Laugh so hard haha
Thanks for this guide. I'm playing TW since Medieval, but never played multiplayer. Just playin around in the campaign and most of the things i have learned by myself. But most of this information in this video i just doesnt know.
I was alway afraid to start multiplayer matches but i think i will start soon. Thanks for you very informative channel!
Nerf Skavan!
No one race should have all that power.
T. Bestmen.
Yeah, Skaven are broken. Such a pain in the ass to invade their territory when you can march in there with 3 armies clustered together but they can move into just one of them, ambush it, take it out, rinse repeat. It's stupid. Makes fighting them an absolute slog.
Oi thanks for teaching me total war warhammer 2 from scratch
I do have 180 hours but this is still useful as I'm rather poor at playing anything other than Tomb Kings
17 hours in. I have no idea what's going on. :D
You didnt cycle charge Chaos Knights in to Silverin Guard you just left them there. But then vs Swordmasters you did and you specifically say to cycle charge :P
Cycle charge the silverin guards is useless because they've got a defense versus large foes's charge which means that large opponent charging them don't get their charge bonus when charging them from the front.
Great video!
Thx alot for the video.
I need an advanced battle guide!!
Had to watch it twice
Look..
The video was ok showing some counters tho idk how to spot counters
But obviously most strategy games are about getting more good matchups
Thats not the gimmick and issue people have
Morale.. the last mini part
That's the main issue
You should do a video on seige battles specifically. They are seem much harder and annoying to me as a newer player than they probably are.
Siege battles are annoying to everyone and are generally avoided outside of campaign, in single player it's mostly about tricking the AI into spreading out before focusing your forces on 1 or 2 gates.
This should be an official video
Oh, bless you for this.
