"Beg that I succeed. For I have seen the throne of the Gods, and it was empty." This line remains burned in my head since the first time i heard it back in 2014, and his voice is so good in here compared to DA2. Also his theme music is incredible, makes the entire scene a ominous feeling.
What's crazy is that it's the same voice actor for both games! Just playing dangerous and imposing instead of old and confused (and with a nice filter on top to boot). Some great acting.
That line was definitely the highlight, but his whole monolgue has some great lines: "Words mortals often hurl at the darkness. Once they were mine. They are always lies." "Know me, know what you have pretended to be. Exalt the Elder One! The will that is Corypheus!" "I do not know how you survived, but what marks you as "touched." What you flail at rifts. I crafted to assault the very Heavens." I was so hyped with this encounter.
iirc, on launch the achievements spoiled it. I think they changed the wording after a while but it was rough back then with that massive of a spoiler in an unhidden achievement. XD
Same, he is so sharp and I was cheesing in his earlier Inquisition episodes as he mentioned all the clues that were laid. I’m so happy he is here hahaha

Oh Mapo, you really ought to go and re-watch the scene of Corypheus's death again. And the final dialogue with Larius. Very carefully. ;) They didn't really sweep anything under the rug, he was VERY much implied to be alive. There were several big fat hints.
How dare you!!! :D At last, I can say this: DA2 is a crucial part of DAI. It is a must-play! Besides Hawke, we learned about red lyrium, Corypheus, VARRIC, Cassandra and Leliana, the start of the Templar-Mage war, which is the reason for the peace talks in the conclave... Without all of this, you have a huge plot hole in the lore.
There is a hint for his possible return in Legacy, very end of it, but easy to miss first time around I guess. Like I would even encourage Mapo to rewatch 5 mins of his own playthrough, the tail end of the Legacy, the dialogue after C was killed, to put things into perspective

@@drshazbot6755 I actually like that DLCs are a pretty big part of the DA universe and it feels rewarding playing through them, unlike DLCs in many other games where there is no substantial additions to the story, cosmetics or you play with a completely different character unrelated to the main plot (those might be good, just not my cup of tea). I remember how I was agape playing through Awakening thinking it will be like a 2 hour story and getting a whole new crew and such a deep story

Man this game (and play through) is so good. You haven't even gotten to my favorite of the main quests yet, and already it's just such a well written game.

For real! I remember my very first playthrough thinking that I was close to the end of the game when i initiated "In Your Heart Shall Burn" quest 😅 I'll never forget the feeling the first time I layed eyes on SKYHOLD and my jaw dropped, this is when the game really becomes 🔥

The tying in of Hawke (and Corypheus) in such a way is not only worth it, but really makes you feel like you are IN the world. This is something I just dont feel in many other fantasy games and its so incredible. It's one of the things Bioware does too well.
I agree. I never had the DLC though. So the first time I played inquisition I lost out on a lot. I wish they had made legacy part of the actual game instead of locking it behind a pay wall 😢
this was the last really good game by "old" bioware IMO. theres just no other studio that is able to weave narrative elements over the course of multiple games like they were. Nothing that quite scratches the itch of Mass Effect 1-3 and Dragon Age 1-3. Really really really hope they prove us all wrong and DA4 and next ME game are a return to form. but im not holding my breath sadly
If you payed attention to the background and Corypheus eyes flashing when Hawke stuck him down in Legacy you would know how and why Larius spoke so weird.
True but its not like it matters on this difficulty - you barely take damage anyways. Admittedly I am glad we are on this difficulty since Mapo puts very little thought to leveling (admittedly he only now unlocked the point where the game gives you a direction to what each of the companions is about now that he reached Skyhold). It would be hell on higher difficulties without going for the efftive abilities like Fire Mine
44:50 actually if you aren't fast enough that is exactly what happens. You only save one and the other gets blown up. Also, to maximize your resupply, you should heal everyone up and then resupply.
Corypheus speech is excellent and one of my favourite BioWare speeches but Sovereign? Really? Corypheus himself should get chills speaking to Sovereign. This exchange is over.
I have hundreds of hours in Inquisition and multiple playthroughs, but this episode made me want to play it again. Can't wait to see Mapo's reactions to the rest of the game, this is going to be great.

"how is corypheus here?" Well, to put it in a very simple answer, think about previous examples of similar things... How is flemmeth in Da2? There are ways, if one knows what to do. It has been proven before. 😊 In addition to that, there were a lot of hints peppered through da2 regarding corypheus being "impossible to kill", so they had him imprisoned instead. Rewatch the dlc carefully, and you will see lots and lots of foreshadowing.
Its so good seeing you play in your heart shall burn, one of my favourite main missions of the game purely for the punches it throws at the players just one after another. I cant wait for more!
AMAZING episode, so many cool reveals. The music when you discover Skyhold is *chef's kiss*, gets me every time. Can't wait to see you explore the place :)
I forgot how much they spoil you in this part. Huge boss fight, getting Skyhold, meeting Hawke, setting up a meet with Alistair all within an hour. I swear, the joy in this episode has made me a few days younger. I'm so glad you didn't let the people telling you to skip DA2 (a great game with a few missteps) convince you.
....the first time I played this game I was baffled about the cinematic clips. It felt like a movie, but I was sooo hooked on the story! That is why can't wait for Dragon Age 4 to arrive! Man love many RPG-games but this game or the DA-game series are one of the best story in my opinion. It's like reading a fantasy book visually! Since I have started watching your play-through - I have started to play it again, and I still love it! Funny thing, but Sera would've approved if you decided to set an example as a mage, despite her being afraid of mages and magic. I honestly thing that if there was an option to play as a City Elf, if a City Elf chose that elf-specific option, she would've approved in that case. Her dislike isn't towards elves and the idea of an elf standing for all of Thedas, her dislike is specifically towards Dalish (and them seeing themselves as the only 'true' elves). It's more of a cultural disagreement.
That scene in the snow camp when everyone starts singing and the journey/introduction to Skyhold is just epic. Even after all those years it hasnt lost of its amazing feeling.
I commented in one of the playthrough videos that I was overwhelmed and kind of stopped playing this game for a while, but have to say that Mapo playing this game makes me want to go back to my playthrough too. ☺️ I love how he is always so invested in games he play and it is really great to listen and watch his videos. ☺️👍 Keep it up, Mapo. ☺️
I was one of those poor sods who completed the Hinterlands before I moved on, so I had a really long trek to get to this point of the game, but when I did, it went from being a fun game with a lot to do to an unforgettable and epic experience. It is a huge turning point, and I am so happy you enjoyed it as much as I did!
I'm honestly surprised Mapo didn't realize Corypheus was alive. I though the way that DLC ended made it pretty obvious. Glad he wasn't expecting it though, it made his reaction here much more entertaining.

I am so happy you made it here. I knew this part of the story would be extremely exciting for you and your reactions to the various events did not disappoint (reveal of Corypheus and the fall of Haven, the discovery of Skyhold, the meeting of Hawke, and all the lore that comes with it). I remember the first time I played this part, I had chills the whole time, from the moment Corypheus walked through those flames to talk to me, until I met my Hawke on the battlements. I am a little worried about quests/war table operations you may have missed out on, but I don't know for sure if there were any, because I don't remember if this was one of those points of no return. But whatever, I am looking forward to your exploration of Skyhold and your conversations with your companions.
we made it to the big one! great episode man! Ya I'm sure others have mentioned it but I highly recommend going back and rewatching the cutscene at the end of Legacy and see if you notice anything peculiar ;)
i still can't believe they relied on a dlc to influence the main story here, i played the base game at launch and didn't know him until much later. and still people told him to skip da2 lol...
Well, it’s the same old story of people complaining why the second game is not exactly as the first one, and why the main character is not “the chosen one”. While DA2 has its faults, it serves as a great set-up for Inquisition, along with Origins, and has the best companions and character development. You have basically a single companion in DA2 for whom you don’t care at all (or hate him), and he is even from a DLC (though Inquisition establishes him as canon). I do agree that having such an important story hook as Corypheus in a DLC is not great, but let’s not firget that DA2 was made in between 15 and 18 months, which was insanely short even back then, let alone now.
The moment we are all waiting for! In Your Heart Shall Burn is such a tremendous moment, and an emotional rollercoaster. They really highlighted the theme of faith, both inside individuals and among a group, with that singing scene. Can you believe that scene was (and probably is) mercilessly mocked for "cringe" and "cheese" by many gamers back then? Almost like some people can't even for a second let go of cynicism and be moved. And I love how Mapo is so excited about Hawke and Alistair showing up. I simply love it! Oh and I see Mapo has already discovered the best traveling method in Skyhold, by jumping right on top of Solas' bald head. One last thing, the completed quest messages are bugged. You have to manually go into the quest log and click on each completed quest, so their stars go away.

Ah yes, me jumping on my chair out of excitement for Mapo's reaction on this part of the game. Where it really begins lol. Pure..JOY😋 It's kinda sad than when I played dragon age from dao to dai I didn't have Legacy dlc, so I wasn't that shocked about Corypheus revival. But it was still such a powerful moment, ESPECIALLY when Inquisition stands to sing together. I cried the first time I saw this scene. Damn, I have chills running down my spine EVERY time I hear this song ever since. YUM🤌🏻

And then getting up and dancing when Varric revealed everyone being inspirational “jogged his memory…” seriously, your joy is contagious and brings life to this game that has too often been overlooked. The most annoying thing in my play through was that a lot of banters started a fraction of a second before clicking the horse and being mercilessly canceled because of it
This being the first dragon age game i played led to a feeling of a depth of world building that I was staring at- like the game was a single page of a enormous history book. Your reaction is so entertaining, seeing you react to characters returning i had no idea were in previous games to begin with is such a unique experience!

Immediately going into In Your Heart Shall Burn, that's a choice. I'm not sure if anything of significance has been cutoff since you got all the companions already. I guess the stuff in the Chantry's Dungeon. *Oh and congrats on saving everybody. I've rarely seen first playthroughs where everyone was saved (Even though saving Seggrit required a reload) just because it's not very obvious that you need to save them unless you're paying attention.
The table operations to investigate Therinfall Redoubt. You can unlock them by talking to Krem between In Hushed Wispers and In Your Heart Shall Burn. He didn't, so he missed his chance to find and kill the envy demon in the prime timeline.

*See's Corypheus" He's BAAAAAAAAACCCKKK!!!! At the end of the DLC he was physically killed, but his soul possessed that Grey warden Commander who was suffering from Blight sickness. He even gloats and thanks Hawke for freeing him. This means he can do what the ArchDemons can do when they're slain by anyone who's not a Grey Warden. The song part with Giselle is probably the best scene of DA:I Imo Its so amazing how well put together it is.
This is my favorite quest of any video game I've ever played. I know everyone talks about Mass Effect's Suicide mission- but nothing got me like it did when I stepped out of that Chantry into the flame engulfed Haven ready to die so these people could escape. I felt like a real hero, and it felt like fighting in desperation.
This is one of my favorite missions out of all Dragon Age games, maybe even in the top of RPG quests. The atmosphere and the twists are sooo good I couldn’t wait for you to learn everything!!
Now that you know who the antagonist is, I must say it's great that you managed to figure out that you'll be dealing with one of the ancient magisters in advance
Fun fact: in the multiplayer for DA:I you can see Isabel as one of the characters you play as. If I remember correctly, she is helping out the inquisition with her whole armada thing and other stuff in the background. Which is just cool little detail. And yes, she has oversized feathery hat lol

A lot has been said about Cory and while I still think he was very underutilised, his re-introduction in this game gives me full-body tingles.

Its so good seeing you play in your heart shall burn, one of my favourite main missions of the game purely for the punches it throws at the players just one after another. I cant wait for more!

I forgot how much they spoil you in this part. Huge boss fight, getting Skyhold, meeting Hawke, setting up a meet with Alistair all within an hour.
I swear, the joy in this episode has made me a few days younger. I'm so glad you didn't let the people telling you to skip DA2 (a great game with a few missteps) convince you.
To understand how Corypheus survived, rewatch the end of the fight Corypheus quest and remember what makes archdeamons so terrifying.
....the first time I played this game I was baffled about the cinematic clips. It felt like a movie, but I was sooo hooked on the story! That is why can't wait for Dragon Age 4 to arrive! Man love many RPG-games but this game or the DA-game series are one of the best story in my opinion. It's like reading a fantasy book visually! Since I have started watching your play-through - I have started to play it again, and I still love it! I am btw. so happy you read aloud the Lore.....love that! ❤ ...and I so much love all 3 DA games! The DLC's for DAI are awesome!👍👍👍👍👍
Funny thing, but Sera would've approved if you decided to set an example as a mage, despite her being afraid of mages and magic.
I honestly thing that if there was an option to play as a City Elf, if a City Elf chose that elf-specific option, she would've approved in that case. Her dislike isn't towards elves and the idea of an elf standing for all of Thedas, her dislike is specifically towards Dalish (and them seeing themselves as the only 'true' elves). It's more of a cultural disagreement.
Yup. She hates the bigotry and self-righteous attitudes of the average Dalish, not specifically elves.
That scene in the snow camp when everyone starts singing and the journey/introduction to Skyhold is just epic. Even after all those years it hasnt lost of its amazing feeling.

I commented in one of the playthrough videos that I was overwhelmed and kind of stopped playing this game for a while, but have to say that Mapo playing this game makes me want to go back to my playthrough too. ☺️ I love how he is always so invested in games he play and it is really great to listen and watch his videos. ☺️👍 Keep it up, Mapo. ☺️
I'm just 8 minutes in to this video, but will watch this through today. Sadly I have things to do soon so I have to watch the rest of it later.
I was one of those poor sods who completed the Hinterlands before I moved on, so I had a really long trek to get to this point of the game, but when I did, it went from being a fun game with a lot to do to an unforgettable and epic experience. It is a huge turning point, and I am so happy you enjoyed it as much as I did!
I'm honestly surprised Mapo didn't realize Corypheus was alive. I though the way that DLC ended made it pretty obvious. Glad he wasn't expecting it though, it made his reaction here much more entertaining.

I am so happy you made it here. I knew this part of the story would be extremely exciting for you and your reactions to the various events did not disappoint (reveal of Corypheus and the fall of Haven, the discovery of Skyhold, the meeting of Hawke, and all the lore that comes with it).
I remember the first time I played this part, I had chills the whole time, from the moment Corypheus walked through those flames to talk to me, until I met my Hawke on the battlements.
I am a little worried about quests/war table operations you may have missed out on, but I don't know for sure if there were any, because I don't remember if this was one of those points of no return.
But whatever, I am looking forward to your exploration of Skyhold and your conversations with your companions.
Back in the Hinterlands i have a head canon that someone took pity on that poor woman and went to the cult to get that potion for her.
we made it to the big one! great episode man! Ya I'm sure others have mentioned it but I highly recommend going back and rewatching the cutscene at the end of Legacy and see if you notice anything peculiar ;)
I absolutely LOVED the music after Haven and when they found Skyhold. It was magnificent!
i still can't believe they relied on a dlc to influence the main story here, i played the base game at launch and didn't know him until much later. and still people told him to skip da2 lol...
Well, it’s the same old story of people complaining why the second game is not exactly as the first one, and why the main character is not “the chosen one”. While DA2 has its faults, it serves as a great set-up for Inquisition, along with Origins, and has the best companions and character development. You have basically a single companion in DA2 for whom you don’t care at all (or hate him), and he is even from a DLC (though Inquisition establishes him as canon).
I do agree that having such an important story hook as Corypheus in a DLC is not great, but let’s not firget that DA2 was made in between 15 and 18 months, which was insanely short even back then, let alone now.
Congratulations, you finally finished the prologue. Now this is where the real game begins.

It's so fun experiencing this game for the first time again through your eyes. Your delight is delightful.
The moment we are all waiting for! In Your Heart Shall Burn is such a tremendous moment, and an emotional rollercoaster. They really highlighted the theme of faith, both inside individuals and among a group, with that singing scene. Can you believe that scene was (and probably is) mercilessly mocked for "cringe" and "cheese" by many gamers back then? Almost like some people can't even for a second let go of cynicism and be moved.
And I love how Mapo is so excited about Hawke and Alistair showing up. I simply love it!
Oh and I see Mapo has already discovered the best traveling method in Skyhold, by jumping right on top of Solas' bald head.
One last thing, the completed quest messages are bugged. You have to manually go into the quest log and click on each completed quest, so their stars go away.

It's kinda sad than when I played dragon age from dao to dai I didn't have Legacy dlc, so I wasn't that shocked about Corypheus revival. But it was still such a powerful moment, ESPECIALLY when Inquisition stands to sing together. I cried the first time I saw this scene. Damn, I have chills running down my spine EVERY time I hear this song ever since. YUM🤌🏻
The face you made when the biggest reveal this side of KoTOR happened! And then getting up and dancing when Varric revealed everyone being inspirational “jogged his memory…” seriously, your joy is contagious and brings life to this game that has too often been overlooked. Thanks for playing it!!

You get horses, which can help you move faster - but you "loose your companions" while you ride. So you miss out on banter.
The most annoying thing in my play through was that a lot of banters started a fraction of a second before clicking the horse and being mercilessly canceled because of it
He won't be any faster on the mount since he has a sprint mod installed.
I honestly can't recall any introduction to a villain I felt more ominous than this one. It was so well done.
This being the first dragon age game i played led to a feeling of a depth of world building that I was staring at- like the game was a single page of a enormous history book.

Immediately going into In Your Heart Shall Burn, that's a choice. I'm not sure if anything of significance has been cutoff since you got all the companions already. I guess the stuff in the Chantry's Dungeon.
*Oh and congrats on saving everybody. I've rarely seen first playthroughs where everyone was saved (Even though saving Seggrit required a reload) just because it's not very obvious that you need to save them unless you're paying attention.
The table operations to investigate Therinfall Redoubt. You can unlock them by talking to Krem between In Hushed Wispers and In Your Heart Shall Burn. He didn't, so he missed his chance to find and kill the envy demon in the prime timeline.
I actually loved the fact that Corypheus mentioned that ''The throne of the Gods'' was empty. It reaffraid my belief that there wasn't a Maker.

At the end of the DLC he was physically killed, but his soul possessed that Grey warden Commander who was suffering from Blight sickness. He even gloats and thanks Hawke for freeing him. This means he can do what the ArchDemons can do when they're slain by anyone who's not a Grey Warden.
The song part with Giselle is probably the best scene of DA:I Imo Its so amazing how well put together it is.

This is my favorite quest of any video game I've ever played. I know everyone talks about Mass Effect's Suicide mission- but nothing got me like it did when I stepped out of that Chantry into the flame engulfed Haven ready to die so these people could escape. I felt like a real hero, and it felt like fighting in desperation.
This is one of my favorite missions out of all Dragon Age games, maybe even in the top of RPG quests. The atmosphere and the twists are sooo good I couldn’t wait for you to learn everything!!

Fun fact: in the multiplayer for DA:I you can see Isabel as one of the characters you play as. If I remember correctly, she is helping out the inquisition with her whole armada thing and other stuff in the background. Which is just cool little detail.
