    One of the things that really puts Solas' experience with the world he created in perspective happens when you travel to the 'bad future' with Dorian. Every other party member is traumatized and confused when you find them, but Solas behaves exactly the same as always. To him, there is no difference between the current Thedas with the Veil and the future where Corypheus wins - they are both horrible, fragmented versions of the world he used to live in. Like, the desperation that we feel as the inquisitor going around in the 'bad future' desperately searching for a way to make it back in time, to make it right... that is Solas. Every. Day. For the entire. Game.
    And then imagine, that when going through the bad future with Dorian, that the Inquisitor met a person and fell in love, but knowing that that person would cease to exist when they went back in time to stop Alexius. Like, Solas is just such a tragic character...
    God I love this franchise so much, loved your playthrough and I can't wait for Dreadwolf to continue this absolute banger of a franchise!!

      Whilst this is a good perspective, I dont think it's a fair comparison. It's solas fault the world he doesn't recognize exists, he made his bed, he should lay in it. The inquisitor and dorian didn't make the alternate future, so they shouldn't have guilt about 'reseting' it

    Hey. Remember when Solas asked you what you would do with the power after Coryfish gone.
    You said you would try to make the world better
    and Solas kinda got upset there and said something along the lines of "what if what you thought was good for the world is acutually horsedung and the world ends up worse than before"
    And inquisitor told him to keep on trying until you get it right.
    I think you might give him a bit of encoragement there :3
    None of his plans ever work out the way he wants and yet he still keep on trying... This genius megamind egg man...

      It's the power of the Well for me because I drank from it, and my Inquisitor, who used to be a First, do want to "restore what was" but as restoring the truth about her culture, and I think it might have been encouraging him too. 😹

    I think I actually prefer the line you get when choosing to redeem Solas if you haven't romanced him.
    Inquisitor: "You don't have to destroy this world. I'll prove it to you"
    Solas: "I will treasure the chance to be wrong once again, my friend"
    He so badly wants to be convinced not to do this, and it's so tragic that he's going to do it anyway.

    When he says "It was like walking through a world of tranquil" I never interpreted it as him not seeing any value in the currently living. On the contrary, he's always looking to help people, spirits, animals and generally ease suffering throughout the entire game. I think he means it in the sense that the tranquil feel no pain because they're unaware of what could be etc. Thedas is currently clueless.

    • @thesunisup_

      I mean he is willing to sacrifice them all for the sake of bringing the old world back so it's pretty safe to say that if he cares about them, they really are nothing more than Sims to him at the end of the day.

    • @adrianbrodin1319
      @adrianbrodin1319 11 місяців тому +11

      @@thesunisup_ I don't think that's safe to say because he's very clearly conflicted. But the dude just woke up so for him the "old world" is probably pretty much just as important as the current one.
      Solas views spirits and the like as equal to people and considering how modern Thedas consistently treat them it makes sense that he would view the current system as a broken one.
      Not to even mention that he looks forward to being proven wrong by the inquisitor.

    • @thesunisup_
      @thesunisup_ 11 місяців тому +1

      @@adrianbrodin1319 I do not deny that he is conflicted, it just doesn't mean he cares nearly enough about the current world. Indeed, he is conflicted because he knows what he is about to do is wrong (I mean mass murder is objectively wrong) and therefore seeks a chance of being proven wrong, it makes sense, and yet he is still about to do it. The old world isn't as important as the current one, it's way more important - that's why he is ready to sacrifice the current world as a whole, it just doesn't mean as much to him. For me it's evidence enough that he views the people of the present (including the elves) pretty much as animals - yes, he cares about them and it would be painful to end them all but he will do it because at the end of the day they just aren't that important.

    “Dark Solas” and “Lost Elf” make me cry when I hear them, I love them so much. Solas is one of my favourite characters from anything and I love how it really encompasses the race to get to him before the viddasala and the emotion that comes from the final scene with him. I love that you think sollavellan is tragic too because it is and that’s why I love it; solas being in love with a woman who comes from the broken remains of his people is soooo good. Watching this play through has been amazing and I’m so sad it’s over but I know I’m definitely going to be rewatching from origins countless times. IMO I think It's less about 'Solas seeing us as insects' and more about 'him not wanting to perceive this world state as a real thing'. Just like how the inquisitor and Dorian treat Redcliff's dark future version in mage recuiting quest, we kinda pressed the 'reset button' on that world too. Inquisitor with the anchor might be the only person in that world capable of saving it, instead, we abandoned everyone there to die.
    There's a banter between Cole and Solas post-breakup scene that further explores more of this idea.

    • @Citizen_Nappa23
      @Citizen_Nappa23 11 місяців тому +4

      He explains it pretty easily he didn't receive them as people because the world he was from imagination defines reality the world is so much worse than before the fall of Arlathan he sees beings as shadows of what they could be, him being forced to create the veil caused much to be lost. I don't entirely agree with his sentiment on that but I also understand why. I don't see him as one that needs redeemed because I don't find fault in his thinking. All land in Thedas was stolen from the elves,they were treated like property even the early imperium days before Andraste used them for blood sacrifice and sport,Even after helping her the elves were betrayed and conquered by the ones they helped because they refused to submit to human religion and rule. Game on the outside tries painting a beautiful picture, but are the humans the heros really? Blades stained with the blood of the Elves says otherwise. Even considering all that Solas cares about people,he hates organizations that control people and doesn't allow them to choose for themselves. If game gave the choice I'd definitely side with the Dread Wolf, a reckoning is due not only to the Evanuris but also against Humans for centuries of enslavement and torture of the true owners of the lands of the story.

      @@Citizen_Nappa23Totally get where you’re coming from, but it calls into question the Dwarves/Titans who are heavily hinted at in codexes and lore snippets to actually be the ones indigenous to the lands that came to be Arlathan with codexes of Elves begging Elgarnan to smite them and “tame the land” that would topple their building efforts. Who knows? We do know that Elves drove them underground, so they were either there first or coexisted before they were pushed out of the land. Next game undoubtedly will explore this huge “war” that the Elves fought against some unstated enemy before the Evanuris rose to false godhood. I’m of the mind that war was against the Titans unless it’s already been confirmed/debunked, I would have to go back and see.

    At redcliff, we had to erase a world to save ours. Now Solas seems to be attempting the same thing. As Leliana herself says "We suffered. The whole world suffered. My pain was real" when we tried to talk about fixing things. Now we are in the position where we ourselves might be erased, so another world replaces our own. A world where we might not exist. I can't really fault Solas here, since we ourselves did the exact same thing. I don't like it because our characters and friends were part of this world, but I understand why he feels it is necessary. We have no idea of the real immensity of what was lost, to give it any value. Still, that doesn't mean will idly wait for him to click the reset button.

It's a nice callback here to have him foil the Qunari plot despite his own apocalyptic ambitions because of that disdain.

      @magicdog9523 11 місяців тому

      And you can definitely see why, too - This man is a literal freedom fighter, and the Qun (despite professing to do it for people's good) is a system *absent of* personal freedom. It's like the antithesis of what he stands for.

    I just wanted to say thank you. This playthrough series has become an important in my week since it started. I am honestly a bit sad, now that it's over.
    Your love for this series is very much felt. I myself love it so much and you truly did it justice. I honestly think, this playthrough is the best DA playthrough out there.
    I look forward to future adventures (baldurs gate trilogy maybe, pretty please?) and can't wait for the day Dreadwolf releases, and to watch you experience it. ❤

    From the very first episode, (which, ironically, was uploaded right after I was like: Huh, I wish Mapo played DA. He's gonna absolutely love it) it was a pleasure to wake up to these episodes.
    A whole year! Can you imagine?
    I've been waiting in fear for Inquisition's end because your playthrough has become a part of my daily routine (welp, almost daily). And this dragon age journey is special in every way.
    Thank you, Mapo! Thank you thousand times for work and love you've put into this series😭
    I will never forget the moment, when you, in Keep wrap up mentioned that you wanted to reach out for Varric's voice actor to make it more personal. It just caught me completely off guard and showed HOW MUCH you care for this game😭
    upd: Words cannot express my appreciation for this. Why am I crying lol :

    I've had access to this episode for a considerable amount of time. I held back on watching this one. I simply have not wanted to complete the journey we have all been on together. This game, and the Trespasser DLC especially was a love letter to those of us who have been here from the beginning, the lovers of lore. It completely upended everything we thought we knew. I first found you through searching for Dragon Age Origin puzzle help [I am hopeless against them], and it was then I decided to look a bit more carefully at the world we each found ourselves in. Having completed Inquisition a few days after its launch--things that utterly befuddled me made so much more sense as I played through Origins and DA2. The pacing of this game isn't easy, especially those of us who are completionist minded. This ending, that scene with Solas was absolutely heartbreaking. He doesn't want to do this, he knows he must. My own theory is that ultimately, he will perish in his fight--I don't know if we'll see our Inquisitor again, but if romanced I do believe she will play an integral role in his, and likely her own mortal downfall. I think Solas will succeed. And we'll have an entirely new universe in which future games [if there are to ever be any] may be set. I'm all for DA: Evanuris.
    I have a deeply personal connection to Inquisition in particular, and its not lost on those who were involved in its creation of your love and dedication to this game. You have most certainly done it justice.
    As a fan of Dragon Age, as a fan of this channel and a gamer myself--thank you Mapo. This was beautiful, and I am honored to have been along on this journey with you.
    Some final words...Blackwall was right all along. DON'T PLAY DIAMONDBACK WITH SOLAS.

    This was a wonderful journey! I finished DA games like a year or two before this series began, and ever since you first heard of the Dread Wolf in the first game, I was excited for this very moment. I prayed that no-one would spoint Solas for you, and I am glad you were able to figure it out/see it for yourself.
    Your playthrough was truly blessed by choosing to play as Dwarf in the first one, as a non-mage in the second, and as a mage in the third one. A female elf age at that. I was so thrilled beyond belief when you decided to romance Solas, for this very reason. Your playthrough of Dragon Age was indeed very special!

    Welcome to the party, pal. You felt all the emotions and had all the questions we have had these past 9 years. I also feel that disbanding the Inquisition is the right choice, although I choose the middle response because our Inquisitor actually thanks their troops for their efforts over the years. That just feels right to me.
    I was especially moved to disband the Inquisition due to the dialogue we have with the male Inquisition guard that uncovers the elven servant. He was completely disdainful to the authority of the Orlesian nobility and flaunted the authority of the Inquisition, even threatening the noble. And this happening all while I'm there. Imagine what other Inquisition soldiers are doing behind our backs with the authority and belief in us.
    I knew then we had become too big and could not be as effective as needed to combat Solas. I figured it best to disband and build back up a small outfit of trusted individuals to combat Solas.

Such careful approach, attention to details, characters, lore, and you seemed to love this world as much as we do! When i saw you picked female elven inky, and then initiated Solas romance, i couldn't even believe it at first. I honestly never hoped, because there were so many worthy options to choose from. I think this romance gives a great perspective into Solas, elven lore and it also gives unique flavour to the next game. Like, i need serious continuation after this, even if we're gonna play a different protagonist. So many things could happen... So yeah, we warmly welcome you, i hope you won't need to wait another 9 years for a closure 😂

    Thank you so much for reliving this journey after playing it myself countless of times but you made it fun again. I don't comment much but I watch and I absolutely love your immersion and passion for the game and story :) your understanding of story and lore was amazing. Elven and ancient lore is my absolute fave as well and I could nerd over it for hours.
    I cant wait for next game to drop even with all studio controversies... Been waiting and replaying these games for years!!! And I highly recommend you read all 6 Dragon Age novels. (written by game writters) The first 5 seriously expand your knowledge of world and lore and known characters and events, and make you see thins in new light, and the last one, Tevinter Nights, literally sets up world state leading to next game. they are great books and worthy of reading. And I hope you play other amazing new games like BG3 you'd enjoy it and it would be a great playthrough :) 💕

    Thank you for this excellent playthrough! Now that we are through there are few interesting Solas facts across the game that I want to share since they are really cool.
    Remember all the random "Solas Dissaproves" questions out of nowhere? It was every time you caught him slipping up. For example "I missed the court intrigue!" "When the hell were you ever at court Solas?" "Oh, uhm never I mean in the Fade and..." :D
    Also if you recall how Solas asks you about what you are going to do with your great power after Corypheus is gone? You say "I will make the world better." to which he responds with "How can you be sure you wont just make things worse?" "If that happens I will just try again." At this point he thanks you - you basically just told him "Ey, yo, your whole Veil thingy might have been a massive fck up but all you need to do is to hit the reset button."
    Also the arm you lost - you can see Solas cast a spell to remove it. Unfortunately its much less visible in the romance version.
    Looking forward to seeing DA4 on the channel once it comes out! :)

    First of all, thank you Mapo for bringing us to an incredible journey! While I have played all these games for the first time quite a while ago, it was great to get your insight and sheer enthusiasm :) I feel the Dragon Age series is a lot like the Lord of the Rings trilogy, where I have often seen people saying they envy those who read them for the first time.
    One small note about the timeline - I believe you got things backwards. The creation of the Veil came first, which coincided with the arrival of humans to Thedas (which was apparently in -3100 Ancient, i.e. three millenia before Andraste), or it happened shortly afterwards. Then, elves started dying from old age, and being clueless about what really happened, attributed it to the arrival of humans. The destruction of Arlathan came later (-975 Ancient, i.e. about two millenia after the Veil was created), when it was likely already in decline, due to denied access to the Fade. There are codex entries that speak of how the Arlathan elves called on their gods for help against Tevinter, but the gods remained silent, being banished by Solas somewhere in the Fade.
    Anyway, I am happy that you loved the series, and now you see how we, who played the game upon release, have been feeling for almost a decade. The next game is unlikely to arrive before the end of Q1 2024, judging from EA's financial reports, but let's hope it can be here next year ... I do feel it will be the final Dragon Age, and I can only hope that Bioware has made a deserving farewell at least.
