@@kyeshayne A fundamental difference between those two and DA is that the latter doesn't mock and overly criticize Faith and Religion or condemn it as inherently illogical and evil. Dragon Age establishes very realistic and nuanced portrayals of Faith and Organized Religion with in-game facts supporting the faiths as more than just words. Then there's the whole Magic angle...Dragon Age portrays a magical system with serious consequences from day one. Where Mages aren't praised or in charge but condemned and ostracized simply for existing in the first place. While in the other two the main heroes are only such because they're aided by mages or are inherently magical while the Mages are praised and in some cases directly in charge. Given the very realistic portrayal of how indeed Humans would react to Magic existing and how the Faith isn't portrayed as nonsense but taken seriously are key factors that make it unique and in regards to those two themes better. Witcher is better at moral ambiguity overall examining what even is a monster or evil while asking if they even exist or if humanity is inherently selfish and corrupt, Game of Thrones does a realistic portrayal of medieval politics and nobility.

The more I listen to the lore of Dragon Age, the more I think the "Old Ones" are simply the Elvenari. There were originally 9, Mythol was murdered, and the dread wolf would have protected himself against the corruption as he caused it with the creation of the veil. Furthermore, he may have even cursed the Evenari into dragon form as punishment for the murder of Mythol. This would even make sense within the rest of the Dragon Age lore. The floating city, or the black city, would have been the fortress of the Dread Wolf. The Tevinter Mages attempted to break into the Black City at the behest of the Old Gods, who are trapped in the Fade. That would have been punished harshly by the Dread Wolf. That would also explain why the old gods are always the arch demons, they are taking their revenge against those that The Dread Wolves defends. The question then would be, why are there physical forms of the old gods on Thedas, and spiritual forms trapped in the Fade? That could have been a result fo the creation of the veil. It separated spirit and physical bodies, so their spirits could still be trapped in the fade and their physical forms trapped on Thedas. Perhaps dragons are the elvenari's natural physical form, that they kept tempered with magic when the veil did not exist? So many questions, but I'm willing to bet we'll get some answers in the Dread Wolf entry up coming. I have not looked into the lore of Dragon Age since I was 16, but I'm really glad I'm getting back into it. Can't wait for answers! Awesome videos by the way!

@@galleo9462 yes. 2 dragons/old gods remain. Solas is not a dragon but a wolf/old god. Flementh is a dragon but not the old god, only an avatar carrying a piece of her.

Thank you so much for putting this together. I know a lot of this lore is in the games, but it's all piecemeal, and this makes it so much easier to learn.
I love your work. Let us hope the 4th Dragon Age game first comes out, and secondly concludes the history of Thedas satisfactorily. That being said, might I suggest that once you embark on a series, you complete it rather than go back and forth between themes and universes? For coherence' sake.
Nah, profitable series rarely conclude these days. If DA4 would be good they'd make sequels/prequels/sidequels till Maker's Coming. If it would be bad they'd abandon it abruptly.
I might be wrong but i think the Templars were a new order founded by the Chantry and the Inquisition of old transitioned into The Seekers instead. At least according to Inquisitor Ameridan and Cassandra respectively. Also Emperor Kordilius and Inquisitor Ameridan were friends. Halamshiral only became isolationist after Ameridan's disappearance.
Nope the Templars where from the First Inquisiton as well (it is where they got their logo while the Seekers took the eye.) Aslo the Dales where Isolationist before Ameridan disappeared as they didn't want human Influence.
I really enjoyed this. As far as I can tell, it is very accurate and well detailed. But I do have one criticism. The pronunciations of various terms and names. Many of them are off, most only slightly, but I thought it was worth pointing out. Or am I going mad? Does anyone agree? Still, great video, you've got yourself a subscriber.
Incredibly well done! I love these "History before the games" concepts. Especially with RPGs I like knowing a bit about the world before diving in. This allows me to develop a story for my character that is grounded in the game world. It also allows me to feel like my character exists within the world, as they have a general understanding of history. For example, it doesn't make sense for a Human Noble in Dragon Age Origins to be oblivious to major historical events and concepts like what a Teryn and the political structure of Ferelden is.

The video is amazing it seems almost as a real documentary of our own lore in the real world especially with the narrator he sounds exactly as any narrator what you'll find on television documentaries like on the history channel.
With them already try their hand in making the animated series like Dragon Age Absolution. Now I kinda want to see something more epic... Something that's not just a focus on group(s) of event(s) here and there... But something Grand. With so much lore that was shown here, They should be able to make the stuff that's not only cannon and didn't have significant complication(s) that would effected the games but also enhance the overall series even more. For example... - Something like... "Thedas through Times", A series of important chain of events that telling story of the history of Thedas like the video here. - One of (or even all) the story of the Blights before the fifth. You know... Wars against the Darkspawn, Politics of uniting people to fight for great cause, The Rise of the Wardens, etc. - The life of the key figure of Thedas history. Hessarian, Shartan, Kordillus Drakon, Caspar Pentaghast, Asha Campana, Calenhad Theirin and so on. Any one of these people life story could be make in such a epic series if done right. In short, I really do hope they put their vast sum of materiel of lore especially those epic parts to use more...

I kept that family sword and used it until the very end. Didn't care how much harder it made some fights. Winning them was epic anyway.
I just used it and the shield as a secondary weapon.
I started the game with a great sword, by the time I was at the end of the game it was an arrowhead..I haven't lost a game of D&D or bay blades my whole life
Watched this series last year as I was curious about DA but never played. Your videos convinced me to play them. Loved it. And now watching this again after finishing DAI and everything has a whole new meaning to me. Thank you.
Very glad to hear that!
Dude this has to be the best lore video I’ve ever watched. You had me enthralled for the entire 2 hours. This is amazing. Wanna give credit where credit is due!!
This is one of my favorite videos on yt. It is calm, good to listen to in the background, it is informative, it summarizes the DA lore almost perfecly, the visuals are not canon to the franchise, yet look amazing, the animations and music are excelent too. 10/10
I never knew dragon age lore was so good. The qun or the chantry, their followers and motifs are very realistic and a bit of reflection from this world.
as someone with thousands of hours in the games, who has played them through dozens of times each and has a deep understanding of the modern day lore, this is THE most well done and comprehensive video on thedas history i've ever seen. fantastic job. i would do damn near anything for more longform dragon age lore videos. pls do mass effect next lmao
This pieces together a couple holes in my DA lore knowledge. thank you for putting all this together
So, you didn't decide to release Ferelden backstory as its own video?
It's been their habit to wrap up universes with the last episode folded into a compilation.
@@westrim Damn, I thought there were just compilation of the already released episodes. Guess I'll have to go back and check out the parts I missed.
Just fired up DA:I for my 5th play through. I absolutely love this series. Thank you for the lore! Much appreciated.
Watched the whole 2 hours so I could sneer and say "typical Orlais" every few minutes. But in all seriousness, this was a great vid. Very comprehensive.
This is incredibly well done, it makes me want to start a new playthrough. In fact, i think I will
Enchantment?
Enchantment!
Enchantment?!
Enchantment!??!
Enchantment
the amount of work put into these lore videos is astounding, thank you for sharing them with us!
This video is a gem for old and new players alike to get lore in a visual as well as an informative way! Would love to see you making a "part 2" covering the plotpoints of the tree games in preperation for Dragon Age Dreadwolf! Altho it might be hard narratively..
Ayyy youre the kings and generals guy, hello there
Thank you for taking your time to make this happen. Really love the series.
This must have been SO much work. What an absolutely amazing video!
Just saw this and honestly think helps me understand the whole Dragon Age series and helps going into Veilguard.
Im loving dragon age lore especially being released in some type of order, make understanding it so much better!
Excellent work, this really feels like a legitimate history documentary on any real world nation. I suppose it is a legitimate doc, just the subject matter that's different. Great stuff!
I've never been intrigued with lore so much since Tolkien's novels. Dragon Age is amazing.
I consider myself a lower head. And this is hands down one of the best lure description videos I've ever seen for a game.
Furthermore this is almost better than the party conversations!!!
You did amazing work! Thank you for creating this!
I appreciate this cuz I’ve never had the stamina to read the codex entries.
This is great. Cover the Mass Effect universe as well if you have time
9 elven mages becoming gods
They solas starts rebelion.
They kill mythal, solas creates the veil.
7 elven gods are stuck in the fade.
Elf mages stuck in the fade cities turn into dragons.
5 blights come and pass.
2 old gods remain.
Solas the dreadwolf and flemeth avatar or mythal.
are u saying Solas and mythal are the only 2 remaining? or that theres 2 old gods in fade AND then solas and mythal? bc theres 4 old gods left total
@@galleo9462 yes. 2 dragons/old gods remain. Solas is not a dragon but a wolf/old god. Flementh is a dragon but not the old god, only an avatar carrying a piece of her.
I REALLY loved this video. Now I feel like I have an even better appreciation of DA history even though I’ve been playing the games since 2012. Thank you for this!
I appreciate this video, and the amount of research and effort that went into it. That being said, these pronunciations are absolutely killing me.
Not paying attention in school, but dedicating hours upon hours studying the history of worlds that don’t even exist. Worth it
Thank you so much for putting this together. I know a lot of this lore is in the games, but it's all piecemeal, and this makes it so much easier to learn.
This is by far the best dragon age lore video i ever seen, and i've seen quite some. Congrats!!!
🎉 this one or the best video I've ever seem from a history point of view of dragon age, greeting from Colombia friend love this one hope I can find more videos in your channel 😊
Just watched the whole thing! Fantastic video
Essential video! Important work! Apart from some weird pronunciations (Qun, Orlesians, Calenhad, etc) it’s a perfect intro to the world of Thedas.
Great video, would be neat to get an update with current information.
*"Yo K&G"* 👋👋
When we gonna see thr next mongol Alternate History video
I swear those videos are probably one of yout best fantasy videos on this great channel
Take is 👂 out
Jesus, the Qunari invasions were an awesome bit of lore, I hope we see more of the Qunari in the future.
This is one of the best lore videos I’ve ever seen! Absolutely amazing
Great lore video man,I love the deep history of certain games. It gives you the sense of realism into an otherwise very fantasy world.
On a separate note: You kinda sound like Stolas. I just picture him lecturing at a college.
Masterpiece of a video! One of the best videos I’ve ever watch on UA-cam. Keep up the amazing work, man! God bless!
I love listening to your videos until I fall asleep. You're voice is just so calming for me.
One thing I got from this:
Qunari to all of Thedas: Karma sends her regards.
Ahh i just finished my dragon age triology, replaying all of them after understanding the lore better is way more fun. U can smug on Solas because u know more than he did hahhaha
I just love both of your guys channels. Thank you so much for all you guys do for these videos, here or on kings and generals.
Such a great video, Dragon Age has one of the best lore in the Fantasy genre. 😊
This series deserves a tv series
You make fantastic listening while at work or home, the detail and seriousness you take on fantasy worlds is enthralling.
Never knew anything about dragon age. Wow! What a nice story and history of the universe 😁
Amazing video i started dragon age 2 when i was 12 my cousin had gotten it for my birthday it has such epic lore thank you for making this video
The blight sounds so horrifying
This was really great, haven’t even played the games even
