Also, Iove Mapo's thrill at the idea of going to a ball and being announced with all his titles, his enthousiasm is lovely.
Agreed. I mean, Cassandra is an absolute sweetie and Bull's is just so very wholesome and funny, but Solas' is definitely the most interesting, especially when all the lore falls into place.
Don't worry Mapo, you won't regret your decision, if it's the elven lore you are interested in Solas is def the way to go. A lot to discover there that's exclusive to him. You can always make another character and ride the bull later hahahaha.

I'm glad you really like Hawke. I was excited to see your reaction to it. Da2 is underrated imo. Hawke was just a plucky refugee trying to take care of his family and he ended up at the center of world shattering events. I think it was a great way to add to this universe

While the frescoes can change, the two of them do not mean these things, sadly. Their meaning show a bit more of a Solas' cunning/trickery side. The birth of the Breach is always the same, and the fact if you say whether you are chosen or not, doesn't impact them. And then, this sneaky ass - the wolves with the twisted inquisition symbol has nothing to do with Inquisitor embracing their elven heritage - though perhaps you said that to avoid the spoilers? This fresco shows formation of the Inquisition... by himself, the Dread Wolf. We have wolves howling, and it is a nod to himself and his agents who already infiltrated the Inquisition. We knew from Tresspasser by both what he and Vidasalla say that it is him who guided the actions to the formation of the Inquisition, because he saw it as the only hope of stopping Corypheus - and we also know that he wanted his orb back, and at the end of the game we see that he was more devastated that it was broken, than he was happy that Corypheus was defeated. "You were people, and you deserved better, like all the rest I have used in one hopeless battle after another." In low approval he has a very interesting line he says to the Inquisitor about what guides him - "Pick your fights well, remember your goals, and do nothing that does not further them." - and that shows a side of him that many people won't get to know, because of how easy it is to get his approval in this game.
Dorian really is one of the best characters in the game. I'm very happy you pushed a bit with the Solas romance, it's a route I never took so it was very cool to see!
That brief conversation with Halisma always angers me, because I forget about it until I speak to her each time. She says she was made Tranquil "Due to a willful nature that made wielding magic a dangerous endeavor." which is a very thin euphemism for "I wasn't obedient enough for some Templars so they forcefully made me Tranquil." She is exactly the kind of mage that was failed by the Circle system and even as Tranquil she doesn't seem entirely okay with what was done to her, which is saying something considering they can't emote at all. The suggestion that Templars are there to "help" mages falls apart when you realize exactly how much power each individual Templar has over mages in their charge, and how little oversight is done on said Templars in turn. Give the wrong Templar too much lip and they'll have you falsely accused of blood magic- and whose story will be believed? The Templar? Or the mage? There are canon stories of Templars who made romantic overtures towards mages under their care and then turned on them when they were rejected. We've seen over and over that some Templars take the job only to enjoy feeling superior to other people. This is an example of why I disagree so strongly with Vivenne when she insinuated that mages were solely responsible for creating fear and misunderstanding of mages by the general populace- we have seen over and over again that it just isn't true. The Chantry preaches that mages are to be controlled by the will of Andraste, heavily implying that they're dangerous and should be feared if NOT under Chantry control. The Templars march around in virtually every city and hamlet in Ferelden outside Tevinter with the full support of the people- why? Because they've been sold this idea that if Templars aren't patrolling every street corner, an evil apostate is going to kidnap them and use them for blood magic. Building, maintaining, and selling the notion that mages are an evil, unchecked problem for every random person in Thedas is how the Chantry can leverage it's political, military, and social power across any nation claiming to be devout. If there were no fear of mages, the Chantry's armed soldiers might not be so well liked or unquestioned- and thus the power of the Chantry itself would be far reduced. The average person will likely never meet an apostate, much less an aggressive or dangerous one. However the average person will meet many Chantry members and Templars through their life- so whom is really teaching whom to feel the way they feel?
3:30 The way this game is constructed, I often felt like it's basically required to run around the whole Skyhold and talking with every single NPC after every single mission. You'll get really familiar with it haha
The other clues from a Legacy is that, before receiving the final blow from Hawke, the eyes of Corypheus flash and in the background you can see Larius reacting like getting hit with an invisible force etc.
For what it’s worth I think trying to look at all of your options is part of the problem at the war table. I would open a war table mission, read the choices and make a decision. That will get it going and clear it (except for repeatable operations).
I absolutely adore Bull's romance tbh, it's unexpectedly sweet and funny in equal turns (and not so unexpectedly kinky, lol), but the Solas romance is just perfect for an elf mage Inquisitor. I romanced Bull with a male dwarf (absurd height difference ftw) and meant to romance Solas but just never got around to it, but did watch videos and it's definitely the most lore heavy (plus interesting) one. Imo you made a good choice. If you ever decide to watch videos on other romances though, I'd be interested in watching your reactions!
It's worth doing Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts before Here Lies The Abyss for a few reasons. It won't make any real difference to the story but you'll get a couple of cool dialogues.
Believe me if you're into elven lore and are looking for more of that, Solas is THE ROMANCE option. You can ONLY romance him with a female elf and personally I think the payoff is amazing! I really hope you stick with him for this playthrough. But also, that Fade date is always so funny to me, because like... when did the dream start? Did the dream start before you walk into his rotunda? Or when he says "let's go somewhere more interesting"? Because that would imply he knocked you the f out to have a chat in the Fade. And the 'Cullen is ready to report in' popup, that's just Cullen knocking at your bedroom door like 'Inquisitor? In... Inquisitor? Are you asleep? I have a report? I'll just... leave it on the table here...'.

Mapo you could do a stream reading the Dragon Age books - you know most of the voices and you could react to them or maybe react to audio books of them. They're great for more sweet sweet Dragon Age lore. Trust me if you read the books you'll be glad you saved her.

ive always loved Hawke. one of the best voiced protagonists ever. its a shame that people have discouraged others to play DA2, it's a hole new experience by itself, and inquisition kinda like a mix of 1 and 2. regarding all the reading, im actually here for that so thanks mapo! c:
1:02:05 - Skyhold got cleaned up because you 'left.' The first bit of repair progress is programed to happen upon leaving and returning, and you happened to do the Solas fade conversation dialogue which has a loading screen, thus counts as leaving Skyhold, so the game updates the location when you return.
I believe the murals are: 1:21:40 1. The large explosion and rift at the start of the game, from where the inquisitor was seen walking from 2. The Inquisition is formed, the wolves howling are probably not so representative of a literal pack, but more of an idea of people coming together as one 3. Redcliff. The man is the magister, mentor of Dorian, and in the back are the two castles in different times 4. Closing the rift, the fall of Haven and Corypheus
14:50 Gaspard will always be Celenees Opponents. I recall Gaspard got some extra Dialog with the Inquisitor if you helped his cousin against his other rivals.
Nothing comes to mind where you meet a character you’ve created. But as far as meeting a characters you’ve played as in previous games, there’s the Trails/Kiseki series. We’re talking A LOT of characters there too, since the series has gone on for a long time. Always gets me excited to see them again.
The way I screeeeamed at my phone for you to pick iron bull LMAOO but if I’m being honest, I love a solas romance story, it always leaves me feeling all warm and fuzzy 🥲❤️
I would also suggest not worrying about reading every mission at the war table before you make a decision. Choose one or two missions that sound interesting, read them, and make a decision.

Re: Fiona in Val Royeaux, Dorian basically says when you first meet him that it was because of time magic-you encountered Fiona, and then at some point later Alexius went back in time so he could get to her first. Of course, that raises the question of why you and all your companions still remember it happening. The real mystery isn’t how you talked to Fiona, it’s why your memory wasn’t reset when time itself was. Maybe something to do with the anchor? I wonder if anyone who was with you would actually remember it firsthand, vs. knowing because you told them it happened.
Duke Gaspard is a different character from that war table mission, Jean-Gaspard. The Frostback Basin (Jaws of Hakkon) and Deep Roads (The Descent) Areas are DLC. Frostback then The Deep Roads, but those are better tackled at the suggest level or higher. Near End Game. Sees Protect Clan Lavellan Again, ...... Also, kissing Egg Man.............................
1:08:40 Fun fact, Solas romance is available exclusively to elven female, and it does actually add quite a bit of content and context to some scenes. I'd say it's definitely the most plot relevant romance in the game, so good choice. Even though Solas is far from my favorite characters personality wise
I think my favourite part about it is that since he is an elf here, whenever elven text comes up he can understand it and won't have to just look at it and be confused.
I didn't use Solas first 'cause I didn't think I'd care for him, but when I eventually did he turned into my favorite character. I think he *destroys* the other members *with facts and logic* whenever they have a discussion. (sorry for memeing)
I hope this doesn´t count as bad kind of backseating. :) Duke Gaspard is not the same guy whom you chose to rule in the war table mission. And don´t worry about progressing with romance(s), DAI fortunately warns you if you are about to be locked in with someone. Enjoy the flirts! :D
As someone who lucid dreams a lot, like, A LOT, since I was 12-13, the depictions of walking the fade in DA to be very close to my own personal experience. Conversation with Solas never felt weird. Often they are my exact experience with dreams. Guess I would have been born a mage there.
Ah, the repairs were so quick due to a 'bug', I wish someone had warned you. Skyhold's repairs advance when you leave for another map, and the game mistakenly treats Solas' cutscene as you having left, moving time forward. So if anyone else is reading this and thinking of replaying/playing the game, talk to everyone else first and leave Solas last.

ive always loved Hawke. one of the best voiced protagonists ever. its a shame that people have discouraged others to play DA2, it's a hole new experience by itself, and inquisition kinda like a mix of 1 and 2.

The first bit of repair progress is programed to happen upon leaving and returning, and you happened to do the Solas fade conversation dialogue which has a loading screen, thus counts as leaving Skyhold, so the game updates the location when you return.

Just in case nobody else has mentioned, I'd recommend looking up a guide for the Clan Lavellan table missions. It's very easy for those to go bad.
Nothing comes to mind where you meet a character you’ve created. But as far as meeting a characters you’ve played as in previous games, there’s the Trails/Kiseki series. We’re talking A LOT of characters there too, since the series has gone on for a long time. Always gets me excited to see them again.

I would also suggest not worrying about reading every mission at the war table before you make a decision. Choose one or two missions that sound interesting, read them, and make a decision.

Re: Fiona in Val Royeaux, Dorian basically says when you first meet him that it was because of time magic-you encountered Fiona, and then at some point later Alexius went back in time so he could get to her first. Of course, that raises the question of why you and all your companions still remember it happening. The real mystery isn’t how you talked to Fiona, it’s why your memory wasn’t reset when time itself was. Maybe something to do with the anchor? I wonder if anyone who was with you would actually remember it firsthand, vs. knowing because you told them it happened.
I figured that Mapolas would be making babies with Solas right from the start.

Duke Gaspard is a different character from that war table mission, Jean-Gaspard.
The Frostback Basin (Jaws of Hakkon) and Deep Roads (The Descent) Areas are DLC. Frostback then The Deep Roads, but those are better tackled at the suggest level or higher. Near End Game.

1:08:40 Fun fact, Solas romance is available exclusively to elven female, and it does actually add quite a bit of content and context to some scenes. I'd say it's definitely the most plot relevant romance in the game, so good choice. Even though Solas is far from my favorite characters personality wise
I think my favourite part about it is that since he is an elf here, whenever elven text comes up he can understand it and won't have to just look at it and be confused.
I didn't use Solas first 'cause I didn't think I'd care for him, but when I eventually did he turned into my favorite character. I think he *destroys* the other members *with facts and logic* whenever they have a discussion. (sorry for memeing)

Not gonna lie, i've squealed like a little girl when i saw hints of possible Solas romance.
As much as i was hoping for the glory of the Iron Bull romance, Solas is definitely the most fitting and suitable choice.

And don´t worry about progressing with romance(s), DAI fortunately warns you if you are about to be locked in with someone. Enjoy the flirts! :D

If you like Elven lore, Solas is the best romance by far! You find out many things you wouldn't otherwise. It's also exclusive to Lavellan
Just a suggestion but Iron Bull, Solas, and Sera make for the funniest companion banter while hunting.

As someone who lucid dreams a lot, like, A LOT, since I was 12-13, the depictions of walking the fade in DA to be very close to my own personal experience. Conversation with Solas never felt weird. Often they are my exact experience with dreams. Guess I would have been born a mage there.
Borderlands 2 has all 4 main chars from the first game in it doing their own things. Only time I can think of.

Ah, the repairs were so quick due to a 'bug', I wish someone had warned you. Skyhold's repairs advance when you leave for another map, and the game mistakenly treats Solas' cutscene as you having left, moving time forward. So if anyone else is reading this and thinking of replaying/playing the game, talk to everyone else first and leave Solas last.
No spoilers but I think you'd like some interactions if you do Wicked Eyes Wicked Hearts before Here Lyes the Abyss
