  • A very deep dive into the Sorlock (Sorcerer and Warlock Multiclass), one of the best Multiclass combinations in BG3. The guide includes optimization for all levels, from character creation all the way to level 12, as well as an in-depth look at recommended magic items and where to find them.
    EDIT: Please be aware that I made an error in this video when saying that Warlocks get Medium Armor proficiency. They only get Light Armor proficiency. My apologies!

    pick mage hand as your high elf cantrip and firebolt as one of the four cantrips that way it scales of your CHA modifier.

    To be fair, Magic Missile is far more useful than "It hits multiple targets". First it uses force damage which is rarely resisted and it always hits so you don't need the to hit roll. Also it does not require line of sight like many spells. So in those ways its lower damage is offset by its utility. I also would take Chromatic Orb but just saying.

    • @Player_1_Gaming

      Totally. I love the fact the fact that you don’t need line of sight and yes force damage is rarely resisted. The thing is, sometimes I just need to give a quick summary of things otherwise this video would go from 47 minutes to a couple hours. I try and do my best to be thorough while still remaining succinct but it’s a delicate balance.

      One more thing tho. I’d love to see a short video (5-10minutes) how to use this build effectively. I mean why to multiclass? Eldrich blast is kind of unknown for me, because WL is not appealing for me at all, so I do not get why I’d need it at all. I think Dexterity is better than Constitution for Sorcerer because:
    1. Sorcerers get Con proficiency so the -1 isn't as impactful
    2. Draconic Sorcerer effectively gives you +2 Con in terms of HP so that's also an offset of the lower Con.
    3. Initiative and AC have good returns for a +1 increase, and since you're using effectively Mage Armor from Draconic feature Dex is better. Also if you don't get hit due to your AC then you won't need to make a Concentration save.

    • @Player_1_Gaming
      @Player_1_Gaming  9 місяців тому +5

      You make some good points but you really can't go wrong with either one. Going with CON is the standard choice in 5e, it's even what's recommend in the Player's Handbook and it's the way I'm used to going. I built this particular character to have a good balance of AC and HP but as I mentioned in the video you can prioritize either CON or DEX and either build will work well.

    I’m planning a Psionic Sorlock for my next game. Githyanki for Astral Knowledge so he can be the party face, plus mage hand, once per day enhanced leap, and misty step. Warlock 3 Great Old One for Eldritch Blast, Agonizing Blast, Devil’s Sight, and Darkness. Now you have a character who can hide in darkness immune to spells and ranged attacks, shooting out at targets with advantage. Then one level of Wizard for utility spells and learning scroll spells, and 8 levels of Sorcerer. You still get up to level 5 spells, and you can learn pretty much all of them. Only problem is that you need to either budget some points for INT or wear the Headband of Intellect.

    Cantrips scale up at levels 5 and 10 (unlike 5e's at 11). Fiend doesn't offer Armor of Agathys, just Warlock in general does. However, you could say you don't want AoA because the temp hp that Fiend can get doesn't stack with it, but AoA is much stronger than the few temp hp you get from Fiend. Also, a Careful Spelled Fireball still hurts your allies, they just succeed on the save and take half damage. It's good for spells like Faerie Fire or Hypnotic Pattern. Only Evocation Wizard can make your allies take no damage from AOE damage spells.

  • @Ner0sys7
    @Ner0sys7 7 місяців тому +4

    I feel like people are REALLY underestimating storm sorc...taking fiendish vigor in a couple of warlock levels will give you a spammable cast that will pad your HP and let you fly places...without a cooldown. This is SUPER useful for positioning in fights and makes you borderline untouchable in some situations. Not to mention navigating the map is a breeze. You lose a LITTLE bit of damage because of these choices but I believe the utility outweighs this.

    • @Taric25
      @Taric25 5 місяців тому +2

      I also came here to say this. Also, level 9 in Warlock is underappreciated, because you get two level 5 spells per short rest, including the Song of Rest. If you have people in your party who can play the Song of Rest, that's (2+s)×2=4+2s level 5 spells you can cast per level 9 Warlock per day, where s is the number of people in your party you have who can play the Song of Rest. As an extreme example, if you have 4 level 9 Warlock level 2 Bards, that's (4+2×4)×4=48 level 5 spells per day, up to 32 of which can be cast in a single battle. Admittedly, that only gives you one more level to put into sorcerer at that point, which doesn't allow for flying, in which case you could go level 7 Warlock, 2 Bard, 2 Sorcerer to allow for flying as a free action after casting a level 1 or higher spell.

    Spineshudder Amulet also synergies with Eldrich blast. Once you hit level 10 you get 6 reverberation per casting (2 per bolt) which procs ( procs at 5) giving another 1-4 damage and knocks target prone so know you have knock back with prone and more damage. That or hit multiple targets per debuff 2-3 for 2 turns which then synergies with thunderskin cloak which dazed reverbed attackerst.

    As you say with "careful spell" your allies will succed their saving throws but that doesn't mean you dont have to worry about your teammates when you cast your aoe spells because they will take a half of the damages anyway..
    Second point, it is a bit surprising to build a blaster mage without the feat spell sniper which multiply your chances to get a crit with your spells by 2.
    Personally I would take one level of wizard to get acces to all the situational non-offensive spells and focus my sorcerer spells on the damage dealing ones.

    My build is 6 Sorc 5 Lock and 1 Rogue. Rogue interaction with spell casters is surprisingly flexible and so powerful, you can play it so many ways. 6 Sorcerer and 1 Rogue is superior because it offers both elemental affinity and sneak attack, 5 Warlock giving you 3 short rest lvl 3 spell slots and EB. Rogue adds it’s sneak attack damage to our attack roll spells. Most cantrips can get a sneak attack bonus Including Fire Bolt and EB. Sneak Attack adds 1d6 of damage to our spells and attacks once per turn.
    Combine with 3 pieces of gear makes all your cantrips deal crazy amounts of damage.
    1. STALKER GLOVES - Skullduggery Attack: Your Sneak Attack Sneak Attack deals an additional 1d4 damage.
    2. NECKLACE OF ELEMENTAL AUGMENTATION - Elemental Augmentation: When one of your Cantrips deals Damage Types Acid, Cold, Fire, Lightning, or Thunder damage, add your Spellcasting Modifier to the damage dealt. Sadly does not work with EB.
    3. POTENT ROBE - Gregarious Caster: Your cantrips deal additional damage equal to your Charisma Modifier. Does work with EB
    Its worth going to level 4 lock for Scaling Cantrips: Your damaging cantrips gain an additional damage die. And Improved Warlock Spell Slots. Sorc 6 still allows you to twincast haste, fireball fire wall. Coruscation Ring & Callous Glow Ring are an amazing Ring Combo for massive damage. It also adds it’s damage to Sneak Attack, Stalker Gloves, Phalar Aluve: Shriek and more.

    Appreciate the effort. That said, mainly sorcerer and a bit of warlock doesn't really offer much for BG3 in my opinion over pure Sorcerer. In D&D it works because of spell+quickened EB etc, but in BG3 you 're not limited to a cantrip after casting a spell so Eldtitch kinda loses its value. It's still decent if you want to save some spell slots but not strong enough to go on par with what you 're losing from pure lvl 12 Sorc imo

    Imo dex is way better than con, 1 extra initiative actually makes a huge difference, and if enemies miss attacks that means you don’t have to bother with any saving throws associated with those attacks. Also dex saving throws for aoe attacks.
    At the end of the day, you lose concentration less by just getting hit less rather than having +1 to that saving throw.

    That odd point in charisma is really annoying me. If you're playing through those early levels, that extra point does nothing. You can take charisma down to 16 without any penalties and increase one of your dump stats by 2, improving one of your saves. Once you get something (an item or feat) that gives you +1 to charisma, respects are so cheap, you can redo your build at that time.

    • @Semiba

    • @Player_1_Gaming

      I always max out the primary stat to 17, then get it to 18 as quickly as possible. However, after I finished this video I realized that I should've recommended when you take the ASI to put +1 in CHA and +1 in CON the first time around so you're not stuck at 19, then take the +2 CHA the second time. That said, as mentioned, there is indeed a in game item that can give you a +1 in any stat. If you get that then I would recommend taking a feat at some point instead.

    Ya....about the narrative thing, though I agree with the concept, min/max is not realistic at all for example: 8 in Intel means you have a 80 IQ, meaning you are just above being mentally handicap (75 IQ) 10 is actually the 'average' stat.

    For anyone who doesn't want to pick dogshit cantrips, if you're going with a CHA caster, don't pick a damage cantrip for your race cantrip. Those use INT. Take Mage Hand or something like that.
    Also, just dont take Fire Bolt. Fire Bolt sucks. It does okay damage, but if you are planning on dipping in Warlock or taking Spell Sniper, you'll already have the best damage cantrip.
    Take something that provides some sort of utility on top of damage as well, like Ray of Frost (halves movement) or Chill Touch (prevents healing).

    • @jacob6885
      @jacob6885 8 місяців тому

      I would second this, but for different reasons.
      Sleep has no save and can be upcast, which makes it good for a quick sure shot removal of threats. Twin for more fun.
      But the chromatic orb, when set to lightning, leaves an electrified puddle behind. Which becomes normal water the next round. The electric puddle synergies well with the lightning charge set boots, and the water puddle with cold/lightning spells.
      Basically a level 1 slot for a smaller water source than create water.
      Also, the ice patch from an icy orb may be more useful than the damage itself. 😅

      While a 2 level dip in fighter can be helpful for any class, I think in this case you’re giving up too much. By only taking Sorc to 8 then you’re losing access to level 5 spells. That’s a big sacrifice. Ultimately it just depends on what kind of PC you’re building. If you want more of a gish type then taking fighter is fine. But if you want more of a straight spellcaster, I think this is the way to go.

      I think if you go draconic you give up being able to cast call lightning based off CHR, Tempest Cleric gets it but based on wisdom and between the limited items that boost wisdom and CHR your spreading too thin cause all draconic will give you is adding Chr to your wisdom based lightning spells while storm gives you call lightning based on chr and you can focus on getting one stat to 20+. I personally enjoy 6 storm/6 tempest. Draconic bloodline just ensures your low rolls are not super low as a 20 in Chr is a for sure your doing 6 damage off that element of spell

      It depends what’s important to you. The big thing you get with adding Warlock is Eldritch Blast with the invocation bonuses. This is especially powerful in BG3 if you use my recommended magic items. Even though it’s just one spell, the fact that it’s a cantrip and you can just spam it is huge.
      If you go pure sorc then you’ll get an extra feat at the end of the game as well as Lvl 6 spells. Both are good options, just depends on the PC you want to build.

    • @donkeysunited
      @donkeysunited 9 місяців тому

      You could use the extra Sorc feat to get the Warlock cantrips and spell. You get EB and can take Hex, while also getting the extra sorcery point. EB will level up but you won't get the invocation bonuses.
      You'll get L6 spells with both builds as they're both full spellcasters.

    • @gharn2594

      @@donkeysunited As @Player_1_Gaming points out you won't level 6 spells on both builds. Warlocks are not full spellcasters, they use pact magic, it's completely separate. For @mar3x268 the reason to go this build is to get the extra damage on eldritch blast. Just as @Player_1_Gaming once again points out. IMO it's a strong choice. Having a 50+ damage no resource cantrip, that you can easily cast twice per turn as you are a twin spell sorcerer is great. The choice of which is better, well that's an argument for the ages.

    • @samuraidoggy
      @samuraidoggy 9 місяців тому +2

      Dipping into multiclass is always better than getting 1 feat more. And if it isnt, its a bad multiclass to do anyway. 1 feat is way less than what some multiclasses allow at 2-3 levels.

    • @Player_1_Gaming
      @Player_1_Gaming  9 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, what @samuraidoggy said. There's always an opportunity cost to multiclassing and losing a feat is often one of them. However, if the multiclass build is a good one, the dip you take in another class should more than make up for losing a feat. In this case it definitely does. For this build to work properly, you must take the two levels of Warlock. That said, as mentioned in the video, you can stay single classed sorc and be just fine too.
