Got a 75" for $750 which was a can't pass up deal, but I genuinely like it better than a lot of TVs supposedly above it, including the Hisense (I already own a U8G). The viewing angels criticism is way overinflated, and the XR upscaling / image processing is understated. It makes every source I actually watch, including UA-cam and UA-cam TV look fantastic. It punches way above its price point even at $900.
@@Yoga_Tv_buying the processing refers to the TVs ability to upscale less than 4k sources and make them look 4k. Watch the video. Sony is unmatched at that. No one mentioned contrast. Rtngs also rated the contrast levels as "excellent" and gave it an 8.6 score. Not that I care, but if you're going to do selective comparisons like that, contextualize it with their comments from the review. I would certainly say that the Bravia 9 is a better TV with a better picture, but in my opinion, it wasn't worth the 3x-4x price premium. You already get the XR upscaling on the X90L (unlike the Bravia 3), which is the best feature of the TV.
@ dude check the processing on Rtings . They r using 480P image 720p image . It’s fine if Sony does Better . I second that. The X90L is a beast for its tier but…. The Bravia7 is one of the best TVs I have ever seen. Currently rewatching my favorite films on it and I can’t believe it gets that close to reference monitors. It even outperforms the Bravia9 in some areas.
Ive only had the X90L for a little over 1 year. The only real downside Ive had with it is aging UI (something like an Apple TV resolves that), poor viewing angles, and the lack of two free HDMI 2.1 ports. Luckily my Sony AT-5000 has HDM1 2.1 passthru to let the PS5 still be connected but I will accept that short coming for the superior upscaling and motion processing. Seriously the Reality Creation setting under clarity can make soft looking games like Switch games (SSBU or MK8Dx) look crispy like its 1440p. And for streaming content, Cinemotion High or MotionFlow at 2 really helps make things look less juddery for 24p content. Its not soap opera effecty at all. Just smooth camera panning and movement. Not a perfect TV but very good. Also still gets mighty bright.
@Sarvesh_17 I wonder if I would be having sluggish behavior with some apps (like Netflix which literally sometimes crashes) if I never updated the TVs firmware. All the Google reviews of the store apps like Netflix, Hulu, UA-cam, Max, Crunchyroll, Prime, etc. all have under 3 star ratings. The only app I've had freeze or crash is Netflix. I'm just saying none of these issues would happen with an Apple TV 4k or similar
The viewing angles aren’t amazing but they are fine, they are actually better yhen most mid range led tvs. Also the UI is great, I prefer it over Apple TV it’s fast and snappy has all the apps etc

I looked at these two TVs for my living room. I ended up with the X90L. The Samsung's color was better, but that's about it. The Samsung stand was just too flimsy and the image quality was just much better on the Sony in my opinion. 1:10 in this video shows what I was seeing in the store. The color is deeper on the Samsung but loses so much of the image. I've only had the X90L for a couple weeks but I'm very happy so far.

Neither one of those TVs are lower mid range, they are both high mid range. TCL and Hisense TVs are nowhere near as good. I stopped the video after you said that and unsubscribed you guys don’t know what you’re talking about..
Just purchased the Q80d, 3 hours after using now havera pattern of squares 1.5 in ( about 12 in total) on each side of the screen. Bought this TV to replace 1month old Q60d that failed. That's up with Samsung quality. Going to try the Sony, hoping for better luck
Where I live, the 55” Samsung is much cheaper at around 750,- euros while the Sony is around 1050,- Even the Hisense is a bit more expensive than the Samsung. As a consumer I like the Samsung interface more than the others.
I got the Samsung. £600 difference here in the UK for the 85 inch model. That’s enough for a decent soundbar. I’m coming from a 1080p 55 inch 2010 Sony Bravia so I’m hoping it at least beats that into a pulp.

Seems an odd comparison for the UK at least here the Q80D is around £300 less at 55" (Q80D £699 & X90L is £1099) Depending on offers the Bravia 7 can be got for more or less the same as the X90L but is it a much better TV? Is the Sony better? Yes. at 40% more? Maybe not. EDIT: For Reference the 55" QN90D is £1099 the same as the X90L
@@ggnn630 thats it? you name the 2 areas that sony wins and thats the way to go? :D Dont even say a word about QN90 having better: contrast, brightness, reflection handling, viewing angles, less blooming, backlight control(not just more zones), gaming performance in almost any aspect (input lag, connectivity 4x2,1 hdmi, refresh rate, 144hz),
Same thing was weird for me in this comparison, even on amazon the X90 is 100$ more in general than the Q80, in my country its priced above the QN85 and i think that would've been a more fair comparison.. It felt suspicious from the start, felt Sony biased

Does the Q80D score worse for a 50 inch unit since it just has a 60Hz refresh rate (120Hz starts at 55 inch units). Then again, Sony X90L doesn't even come in a 50 inch size.
I wish the X90L had a center stand instead. I put my TV on a swivel stand in the main room. I use this on my QN90C in 85. I have a love/hate feel for the QN90C sometimes it looks so flat sometimes outstanding. If I could go back I would just spring for a 83 Oled.

One area the Sony X90L beats Hisense and TCL is pre-calibration color accuracy. If either (1) I made enough money to upgrade to a Bravia 7 or Bravia 9 and sell my X90L to a local buyer, or (2) the Hisense U8N or TCL QM851G matched or beat the X90L in other areas of performance, I would have sold my X90L and bought one of those because of its Quantum Dot mini-LED display technology for better brightness and less blooming. However, between my financial situation and Rtings's measurements for the Hisense U8N and TCL QM851G, the Sony X90L sits in my sweetspot when it comes to performance, size, and price.

@@Yoga_Tv_buying I've been using an X90L for what will be a year three weeks after this comment. After owning a Samsung 768p plasma, as well as a laptop with a budget 4K LCD display, a high-performance 4K LCD display, and a 4K AMOLED display, believe me. I know the X90L's limitations. The elevated black levels from blooming aren't as elevated as turning local dimming off. Its peak brightness for small highlights, and even its sustained full-screen brightness, are brighter than my plasma and even the best laptop display I've ever used. If money was no object, I'd own an 85-inch Sony Bravia 9 QLED for daytime use AND a 77-inch A95L QD OLED for night time use so I can have the best of both. However, being limited to $2,000 when I bought my X90L, I had to choose what areas of performance were important to me and be willing to compromise on other areas. While it's not perfect, I believe the 85-inch X90L falls within that perfect sweetspot in my situation when it comes to performance, size, and price.
@ Thank you for your explanation and curtsy. I recognize I was harsh and I am truly sorry . You did your research and $2000 is hard earned money take anyone a while to save up for it . That you should be happy with the effort n annoyance to acquire the tv n having it set up ! Since lately tvs are getting brighter , I can at least help u that to enjoy TV at fullest experience. If u have had plasma before , you might have gotten used to having tv play show in pitch black . Plasma and those theatre film are dim also low in color . That’s why it squires us to sit in pitch black . There r 20x -- brightness sensors in the eye ball than color ! So we could identify objects don’t step in to cliff or river . Watching 85” tv in pitch black will cause eyes Auto bloom up already brightened image . Modern TVs we have to watch with medium to dim lit room for most comfort for eyes , to ease the Over sensitivity to brightness , allow Color Cones to max capture the color . So just keep in mind :)
@@Yoga_Tv_buying Don't get me wrong. I KNOW QD mini-LED and QD OLED are truly where it's at. I hope some day, I have enough money to sell my X90L and go one of those routs. But after collecting lots of 4K Blu-rays with 7.1 audio and getting a player to play them, I felt I should upgrade my display to something which would allow me to take advantage of the 4K resolution, HDR10, and Dolby Vision. While maybe not at their fulest potential, considering I think the experience with these formats on the X90L is still better than with my plasma and even than my best laptop display, I am happy enough with my X90L to move on to enhancing my audio setup, and then maybe later on down the road, saving for a QD mini-LED or QD OLED and selling my X90L.
Hisense and TCL still very young Chinese companies. I'm certainly not going to gamble being the ginnea pig hoping their 5+ year reliability measures up to established brands.

There is no discussion. Not having DV is absolutely abysmal. They all want to harp on 2 hdmi ports in the comparison, but DV is absolutely a huge noticeable difference. I love Samsung as a company, have many of their products, cannot purchase their TV’s as a result unfortunately.
I've seen many people changing their minds in front of me when comparing HDR10 S90C vs DV G3 but keep trying tell yourself its a "dealbreaker" :D DV is not as of a big hit as Atmos, Dolby tries to make it as big, but many brands have bad implementations of DV despite having the badge on the product, then what is better in DV?v Even if its the correct way DV is just different, not better.

In 2024 I don’t know anyone has Blue Ray player if they don’t have them left at parents house when they moved out already . :)
Ps the sony reviews In all online r in cinema mode -- All upscaling up. All Hisense /Samsung (only Hisense n Samsung has that ) -- KILL switch called “Film Maker mode” it’s a button to Shut off 100% Processing or Upscaling . N Actively Down scale Hisense / TCL to look like 70s film .

I was thinking about getting a bravia 7 but the x90l seems like such a good deal!

I second that. The X90L is a beast for its tier but…. The Bravia7 is one of the best TVs I have ever seen. Currently rewatching my favorite films on it and I can’t believe it gets that close to reference monitors. It even outperforms the Bravia9 in some areas.
@@benscalise2749 reasons why you didn't go for an oled tv ?
@@Sweet-Tooth31 UI is literally the best lol ur high

One area the Sony X90L beats Hisense and TCL is pre-calibration color accuracy.

SONY is very good with a sense of depth to the image.
Furthermore, when gaming, the local dimming works well when VRR is turned on with a 4k120hz connection, and the image is very clear.

Rtings doesn’t consider price in tests. But I noticed it’s included in UA-cam TV comparison reviews.
Could you share why that’s the case? Is there any plan to include price in future tests?
How does Samsung stay in the debate. They don't support DV or proper HDR10, and they don't support DTS even for pass through.
There is no discussion. Not having DV is absolutely abysmal. They all want to harp on 2 hdmi ports in the comparison, but DV is absolutely a huge noticeable difference. I love Samsung as a company, have many of their products, cannot purchase their TV’s as a result unfortunately.
I've seen many people changing their minds in front of me when comparing HDR10 S90C vs DV G3 but keep trying tell yourself its a "dealbreaker" :D
DV is not as of a big hit as Atmos, Dolby tries to make it as big, but many brands have bad implementations of DV despite having the badge on the product, then what is better in DV?v Even if its the correct way DV is just different, not better.
Sony is just the gold standard
They r not . Especially reference monitor as hoax. The reference is used as comparing . Its developed in 1952 by RCA “CT-100” 😂funny little 8” tv . It had low Color . So they used to make film blue tinted n put warm lights on ppls face to make contrast .

Wondering if there’s a difference between the q80d in uk and us as q80 d gets rather good reviews in uk this is the problem it’s all subjective
I'm from UK Q80 isn't a great TV I work in retail the Q80 is a glorified Q60 get the X90L it's smashes the Q80 in every department
Error in comparison. x90l should be compared with qn85d.
Absolutly not. I have 2021 Hisense U8G , 65” i paid $1450 USD after tax still look SIGNIFICANTLY better ( glossier screen, 40% higher contrast, 40% higher Color Volume/ Density, 4X Local Dimming zones, Absolutely better Blooming control , More vibrant vs SONY X90L pestle very odd)

Its MADE sure to explained to US that--Concept cars/ Reference MOnitors n Flagship SONY TV are Made to make Brand LOOK GOOD. 👍 their AIM is SELL AS FEW as SONY Flagship TV as possible because they LOSE money selling Flagship. Producing 300 Farrari a year will COST 💯 X price of producing 60000 Units of BMW X3. But they can NOT charge Flagship CAR/ TV 20X price of low end . What they will do is THEY MAKE d MOST MONEY on Entry level tv to pay back the Lose they have in Flagship. But they will USE flagship (Concept car, or SONY Flagship TV) to promote the low end entry to charge --2X price. N ppl will Enjoy in PLACEBO. N sine everyone’s brain going thru d SAME placebo , announcing d WOW. Because if u buy Flagship, u will NEVER buy low end tv EVEr again. By Aggressively promote ppl to buy low end, mid range SONY, ppl will have URGE to UPGRADE in 3 years rather than 5-6 years, driven by launched of d NEW OVER PRICED SONY flagship. So ppl would once again pay 2-3X price buy an kinda not so hot tv thinking they are best. Rinse n repeat.
U willl formulate Echo chamber and baked in it is d BEST u can GET. This is REAL Business stuff they were teaching in Toronto Canada about HOW SONY Tv riding 80s 90s Wave but NOT as hot. However seen as BEST by aggressive Marketing.

As much as everyone in these comments say the q80d and x90l are good for the buck, theyre simply not. They are def good TVs, but you really cant beat the mini LED tvs that Hisense and TCL are putting out in terms of performance/price/size .
If money isn't a determinant,Get the Sony.
I would avoid X90L. The TV space has Sky Rocketed Since X900H or X90K.
Because X90K has 37000:1 contrast. The X90L 42000:1 its NOT even a decent upgrade since its been over 2 yrs since X90K.
When U can get ---FULL GLOSS VA panels from Bravia9, U8N , Qm851 for actually just little more.

Comparing sasmung with sony is a joke. Sony is king in TVs
Ehh, no? Comparing a 1,2-1,8 times (depending on country) more expensive product with an other, and calling them the same category is a joke.
X90L is priced to QN85-90 level so put them next to it.
-Sony will be better in upscale
-there will be parts where the perform similar and
-Samsungs have better: contrast, brightness, reflection handling, viewing angles, less blooming, backlight control(not just more zones), gaming performance in almost any aspect (input lag, connectivity 4x2,1 hdmi, refresh rate, 144hz)

Full array tvs are a dime a dozen.
It just doesn’t make sense to buy these tvs over the Hisense U8. Plus when you compare current Black Friday prices you can buy the Samsung s90d OLED 65 for just $100 more than the 75in Sony. I will GLADLY pay an extra $100 for OLED even if I sacrifice 10in.
That Samsung OLED has pretty bad motion handling. Constant stuttering in faster moving scenes.
@ that's just the blur/judder reduction settings. Turn them off and it's fine.
Hisense looks great but from the only one ive used , had bugs from time to time. Turns green, menus freezes, volume wont work until you power cycle it etc. Im sure most people will have zero issues though.
After having sony tv's for 2 of my past three, I won't ever buy one again unless they fix their absolutely horrible UI! It's so, so bad!

To be fair, the X90L is priced between the Q80 and QN85. Especially in my country, where its in many retailers even more expensive (65QN85 449900 / 1090€ vs 65X90 499900 / 1210€) than the QN85D so, i think that should be its pair of comparison. That would even out some odds...

IN fact that SONY LEDS have Flopped by Samsung n Hisense for Decade. SONY n LG ACTUALLY gave LED a BAD rep. SONY’s LEDS in 2010-early 2010s were produced by SHARP / Samsung. Hisense Bought SHARP tv brand in 2015.
