    Great video, I thought you explained the misconception of Mini LED always being better than regular FALD TVs quite well, I saw this first hand when the QN90A and Q90T were placed next to each other the Q90T showed more detail and slightly more blooming but the QN90A crushed details to hide blooming and get closer to acting like an OLED in most scenes I thought the Q90T held up better because important details got lost on the QN90A. Also its more about the algorithm than the the amount of zones and you covered that very well.

    • @birdtj82
      @birdtj82 10 місяців тому +5

      Q90T was d BEST. Its like ART. QN90A was nice tho. I did NOT have issue with it when I saw in store. Maybe u could try to tweak it.
      Seeing something in store is never accurate!!!
      I saw Hisense U8G 65” beside QN90A, LG CX, SONY A90J….the CX A90J looked AWEFUL AWEFUL AWEFUL, but Hisense LOOKED WORSE--at fisrt. I had to hunt down the employee to ask him to change to --STandard mode. He had on --Energy Saving mode. N back light on 💯, black level(brightness) set to 50%.
      And then i found d Samsung QN90A. I moved around its setting, it looked Great.
      N d doughy guy in store they were --really agreesive so bitchy that I went straight asking for U8G n QN90A. He kept berating the technology n brand, n kept trying to pulllme to look at OLED, n LG QNED. Ughhhhhh. 😮
      U might want to re visit the store, get remotes first. Cuz they really are trying to promote LG QNED(cuz they a re not selling). N some other OLED (they get much higher commission).

    If TV manufacturers were serious about producing LCD TVs that catch up with OLED displays, they would be implementing and improving the "Dual Cell" technology that Hisense introduced in 2021. In the Hisense U9DG Dual Cell TV, a 1080p black and white panel was placed behind the 4K RGB panel. This functionally provided the TV with over 2 MILLION "local dimming zones", and as the tests in the RTINGS review demonstrated, the results were spectacular. The Dual Cell TV nearly equaled OLED displays in Contrast, Black Uniformity, Blooming, and Wide Viewing Angle. The Dual Cell TV was discontinued (probably because it cost more than other Hisense models) but this LCD technology has the potential to be a highly competitive rival to OLED TVs.

    QUESTION: There is a a comparison between the Hisense UK7 model vs the Sony X90L online. In this comparison, there is a Starfield test. The UK7 model does not suffer from the "Too Black" problems the TCL QM8 suffers from in the FOMO video. In fact, the U7K actually has superior blacks that are deeper than the Sony X90L while simultaneously displaying more of the white stars - similar to the way an OLED is superior to the X90L. Can you confirm this, Fomo in the specific test you show here at the end of your video?

    As owner of Sony X900h ("55" 2020) 4k 120Hz model (FALD).. which costs $1200 back in early 2021
    I can say Sony TVs are superior overall, especially for 90 series & above..
    But their price is outragoues.. X90L (65 in) is $1800 in middle east, while TCL 745C (65 in) is like $900
    Videos always show cheap U.S prices.. while Euro, Asia, Africa..etc have always have higher prices for Sony
    I don't care what Sony could bring to the table as long their prcices are 2x, I won't buy from them again

    What a fantastic video. Its very easy to understand and very well produced.
    Anyway, this and a couple of other videos saying similar things is why the 98" X90L is in my top 3 TVs Im considering, along with the 85" X95l and the 85" Hisense UX which I hope you'll test.
    So putting price aside, if you were buying a TV for a room with a lot of ambient light (large windows), but no direct sun, would you be more excited to get the 98" x90 because its more than good enough and you get that unbelievable size, or would you want to close the gap even more with the superior, but smaller sized 85" x95l? 🙂

    I have an LG C8 and a G2, and will probably keep OLED for myself for the foreseeable future. However, I just convinced my parents to upgrade their Panasonic plasma's (one of them is from 2008!) to a set of 75" and 65" X90L's and for them I feel like they will be thrilled. For them I prioritized motion and dark scene details over true blacks, especially since they'll be streaming 100% of their content, to find a budget that made them comfortable. Hopefully they'll be happy, will find out later this week.

Oled was and will be the target but since im doing everything from pc,my only road is led tvs. qleds are great either mini leds or not mini leds just as we are on full array class but sony has that little something that makes things much better on picture quality and overall quality is at high level on everything and thats why they are more pricey.

      @@birdtj82 LOL let's get this cleared up. I bought the Sony X90L from Best Buy and most importantly, Sony has hated me ever since I posted the X900H VRR fiasco three years ago. Sony has never EVER sent me a TV for review - I've had to buy them all myself. The only TVs ever sent to me for review have been TCL (but not recently, I've also had to buy the QM8 and R646 from Best Buy) and Hisense loaned me the U8K, U7K (both returned). Believe me when I say that I have been Sony's harshest critic (or did you miss my scathing review of the X95K last year, which I also bought) and this is the first time I've liked the entry level X90 model! As far as LG, they definitely don't like me and like Sony, they also do not send me any TVs for review - I've had to buy those too. I welcome loaner TV units for sure, but I always say it as it is because I don't mind buying TVs when I need to.

      Samsung miniLED is definitely not "better" - having reviewed the QN90A, QN90B, QN900B, QN95C, I can say that the additional miniLED did not make the Samsung "better". The QN90B had worst contrast and slightly lifted black bars compared to the QN90A - yes, specular highlights were a touch brighter but the compromises were unacceptable. QN95C was definitely improved but only to match the QM8 - this is why the QM8 is my current reference miniLED TV (until next year!). Hisense surprisingly added miniLED to its U6, which was completely unnecessary as the Q7 without miniLED beat both the U6K and U7K. Personally, I believe that a TV does't need miniLEDs unless they have more than 400 dimming zones.

  • @bpowick
    @bpowick 4 місяці тому +1

    I've been watching a few other channels that have also discussed Sony's X90L as well as their top tier mini LED the X95L and how they out perform most other mini LED TVs even though they both have less dimming zones than most of the competition and it all comes down to their processing and dimming algorithm. Sony revealed just before CES this year that they use their own proprietary tech to better focus their dimming zones as well as better control the gradient of light each zone needs rather than simply being on or off. It's actually pretty cool seeing how it works and because of it they don't need as many dimming zones. Apparently their 2024 mini LED TVs will have an even better version of this tech and some tech reporters that have seen pre-production TVs in action say it rivals current OLEDs in terms of picture quality and deep black levels.

A recent poll found that 50% use subtitles, and I'm not surprised as there are so many articles explaining why dialogue is not clear either by design (looking at you Nolan) or by choice in many movies (looking at all the crappy directors).

      The issue is cost, it gets exponentially more expensive to up the dimming zone counts supposedly. I doubt we'll ever see an LCD TV with over 900,000 dimming zones tbh. It would either cost more than OLED by a wide margin, or by the time we'd get there, MicroLED TV's would probably be getting cost competitive and readily available, and superior to LCD in every way.

      @@shugo7337 I'm saying it would be a cheaper option to manufacture than direct view MicroLED, especially for future 8K resolutions in TV's 65" or smaller, because they wouldn't have to get the individual LED's so small, but still have a near perceptible contrast. Having 900,000 individual LED's will be a lot easier to achieve than 33 million.

    Mini LED can tend to crush a lot of detail in favor of getting an inky image. Sony's approach is subtle. Sony isn't the brightest or blackest, but there's more information in the image, so the result is an image that stands out and has more depth.

      Exactly correct. And, just as Sony will always tell you, they make their design decisions with the creator's intent in mind. If you watch a lot of CNN or Fox News all day, you will eventually end up with "Burn-In" from those colors always being in the same spot. Second, the "Fast Response Times" of OLED helps the videogames with "High Framerates," such as First-Person Shooters and Racing games. However, the "Fast Response Times" of OLED actually has the inverse effect that HURTS the low-framerate movies on Blu-ray, which run at only 24 frames per second. Hi Fomo, we really love your views on TVs and your interaction with Brian. However, I would like you to put the Sony X 90l, Hisense, and TCL with lower diming zones up against each other. I bought the QM8 85" and for the most part delighted by its performance. I have been waiting for the Hisense 85" U8K but it has not been released. We have a budget, that prevents us from considering the very top-of-the-line TVs. It's fine with me if you use an OLD tv to use as a standard but for me, it clouds the issue. When Brian says the Hisense Q7K blows him away, what is he comparing it to? Is it the Sony x90l?

      No. The Qm8 will look better in many ways, but the q7 is no slouch. Qm8 will get much brighter, and colors will "pop" more. However, the contrast in both TVs is similar, and in dark scenes, the q7 will not crush blacks as much as the qm8, for example.@@tomtube1012

    I spent this past weekend shopping for a TV. I ended up ordering an X90L. At a Best Buy where they had various test videos you could display on the 5 different screens and pause, I saw shockingly little difference between the X93L (not 100% it was an L) and the X90L. The salesman was able to find 1 frame where hte skin toens were better on the X93, but on scenes where there was blooming, frozen n 1 frame, looking carefuly back and forth between the two, I could not see any difference. Really, I thought the blooming was minimal overall. I really wonder if the video world is too obsessed with the deepest blacks. To me, the brightness in daylight scenes of the X90 over the A80 made a big difference in the movie-watching experience, whereas the darker blacks of the A80 were more of a novelty, especially since there was far less detail in shadow areas on the A80.

      These "deep blacks" are only visible in a dark room so BB showroom is not always the best, and more importantly, it depends on the content. For example, in the movie 1917, shadow detail together with deep blacks really make some scenes pop whereas in Aquaman or Infinity Wars? Deep blacks not as important.
