      Nice review but couple of things I would add from my experience and why I choose the Sony qd oled. The LG brightness comes at the loss of color volume, in very bright scenes with lots of colors red, green etc the the LG colors looks a bit washed out compared to the QD OLEDs.
      The low quality content is actualy over done by the LG processing, if you look at the original image on a CRT you see that some of the details are missing which is why Sony pulled back on over smoothing the image.
      Dolby Vision is actually a major loss if you are a purist, HDR movies tend to have a over brighten look to the entire image, the DV version is like you are watching a SDR movie expect for when the highlights pop its a more cinematic feel for movie buffs.

    The LG G4 is the "best of both worlds" and is the model I purchased. I upgraded from the LG B8 OLED (which is now my bedroom TV), and I could not be any happier with it! It's great at gaming (the best, tbh) and its fantastic for content. If you have a lot of DVDs and a reasonable PC , buy Topaz AI , in output select 2x Proteus Auto , should bash out a pretty good upscale , much much better TVS , then run output through handbrake at at quality rating of 18 or 16 . Use makemkv to turn video into effectively a playable one file solution , for Topaz to work on . Topaz is not cheap , does have a sale , still not cheap

    • @nimblegoat
      @nimblegoat 5 місяців тому +3

      @@RonnRicco pretty much , my solution is easy as without thinking , will give you a 720p or 960p file . You can upgrade it again to 1080p with another model like iris . My solution allows many DVDs to be done quickly without too much or any AI hallucinations. Topaz AI has a learning curve to really get it to work well
      I think my solution is fine , TVs can do the rest and they will get much better in future with AI upscaling a std feature in a few years . If you get too aggressive in your settings you can get a plastic look , or if you ask some of the more AI models to create as much details as possible if can make movies seem weird and glitching . My solution is less is more , without knowing how to really use Topaz AI , you can even run denoise higher then add back noise to stop plastic/waxy skin look . You can not take a 240p file and turn it into 4K , so limitations . Topaz cleans up blockiness, noise, softness, banding , compression and "recovers" some detail - results can be ok to amazing. Edit just doing what I say is the quickest. to take a 1080p to 2160p will take easily 3 times longer . I suppose some people use to re edit and colour grade movies like Stars Wars , as originally shown in theatre or something, that must of taken months

However, as a LG C1 owner I'm going to wait until next year to see what they come up with as there's still room for improvement in all of them. Bought the Sony 77" A95L last year along with the Sony 7.2 receiver and Klipsch 7.2 Atmos speakers. Wow, what an experience! For Movies, I put the TV on Vivid and take down the brightness considerably but still brighter than Standard. The images are amazing, especially Horror movies which tend to be too dark, lacking in contrast and detail. New movies are amazing in that they look better than anything I've seen in a movie theatre. I do a little gaming but only on my computer/monitor setup so gaming is not an issue. Nice to know my Sony still holds up with the new leading models.

    Remember, "put trash in, get trash out". Anyone holding onto their DVD collection, such as myself, is probably better off upgrading to a high quality Blu-Ray player that has good upscaling such as Panasonic's UB820, or the UB9000 if you want the slightly better best for twice the price.
    This will allow you to get a better TV than the Sony feature-wise while still having great upscaling and image processing of SD and other lower resolution content.
    If Sony has bothered to put their high-end image processing tech in a Blu-Ray player then that might be a good alternative, but as far as I'm aware their players simply don't upscale as well as their TVs or the Panasonic UB820.

    I know everyone has million dollar sound systems- but the Sony sounds superior to these. For anything but games, the A95L is the crystal clear winner. She didn’t even touch in motion, which Sony also excels at. For gaming, it’s a more difficult choice if the matte coating isn’t a deciding factor. Qd-OLED is superior to the G4, but the G4 has better processing.. so what you watch on the tv may help make your choice, unless the coating does it for you. The Sony gets my pick.

    Excellent video, very useful! I do have one question though that I'm hoping might turn into a comparison video somehow: Since you mention that Dolby Vision doesn't matter too much on TVs as bright as these OLEDs, can you objectively demonstrate that? I think the perception is that since Dolby Vision is the default HDR mastering technology for Blu-ray and a number of streaming services, you're missing something if you get a TV that doesn't support it. I can think of any number of variables that might need to be controlled, such as image processing by the TV (does DV even look the same on different TVs using the same panel?), but I think it would help to show how important (or not) DV is for a TV. Thanks!

      Dolby vision honestly doesn't matter much. If you've got any one of these TVs including the Samsung HDR is going to look outstanding and very similar on each regardless of whether it's Dolby vision or just normal HDR10. What matters far more is the TVs capabilities. If it were that big of a deal in PQ Samsung would go out of their way to add Dolby Vision but they know it doesn't make a huge difference despite what any fanboys of LG or Sony are going to try and tell you.
      Those same people will tell you you should be watching your HDR content as accurately as possible in filmmaker mode but anyone that thinks for themselves that strict accuracy and a TV's filmmaker mode gives you an extremely tame and boring picture.
      Picture quality snobs are the absolute worst. Just like audiophiles.

      For gaming on an Xbox in 2024, I can say that Dolby Vision has changed the way I view and play video games.
      My last Samsung died early and their support was awful. I can’t bring myself to deal with them ever again.. however this is an easy choice as they choose to not support Dolby and they don’t pass through DTS codecs which is also a dealbreaker for anyone that watches Blu-ray content. Some games are also mastered for DTS (Tiny Tina’s Wonderland being one of them).

    I ordered a 65" LG G4 a few days ago through B&H on sale for $2,800 and is going to be delivered on the 29th (would be delivered a lot sooner, but I'm going out of town for an annual convention). I can't wait to get it and hang it on my wall! I really wanted the A95L, but it was so much more expensive (smaller discount) I couldn't justify the extra cost.

      I went for a 55" S95D and it's simply stunning. I wall mount too so the One-Connect Box makes it easier and far more accessible...
      The Matte screen certainly isn't noticeable in my room when it's on at all - but then I don't shine direct light on my TV, even with curtains open, it's not affected and bright enough for daytime viewing or 'playing' as its a superb gaming Display too...
      The G4 does look I nice TV and Versatile too - probably the best 'Bang for Buck' TV, but the S95D suits my needs perfectly and lack of DV, low bitrate Content upscaling, DTS passthrough and/or its Matte screen don't affect me in the slightest but I guess would be nice to have, just in case LOL...

      Why A95L is worst for gaming? It's about quite bad Game Mode? I think for console-gaming level it's good tv with 4K/60fps and fullHD/120FPS (most 4K/120FPS games are really unstable), for more sophisticated experience/"serious" PC gaming it's better to get lesser monitor, with (much) lower input lag than qd-oled TVs.
      In my country I could get A95L quite cheaper than s95d and over 1000$ cheaper than g4.

    • @BeatelementhePiH
      @BeatelementhePiH 5 місяців тому +1

      @@sp3ctr478 It isn't "worst" in gaming. All three TVs are great for gaming. There is no real spec you are missing in game mode (for console) on the A95L and with reality creation it also looks really beautiful. What I don't like is the dimming in game mode on the A95L. If you don't mind that and you don't need the brightest picture (still very bright) you're getting a great gaming TV...

    • @BAMozzy69
      @BAMozzy69 5 місяців тому +1

      @@sp3ctr478 Why? Because its objectively worse than the other two. Not only does it have more input lag, it also dims HDR so has less impact too. It also only has 2 HDMI ports suitable for 4k/120hz gaming but one of those is also the eARC port so if you wanted to plug in Both a Series X and PS5 whilst also passing the Audio to your Surround Sound system, you can't with Sony...
      Most Gaming monitors tend to quote Pixel Response times - not input lag. Pixel Response is NOT the same and as 'OLEDs' have near instantaneous pixel response, they are much faster than LCD monitors quoting 2mss Pixel Response that may also have 10-15ms of Input Lag too - and Gaming monitors are not that great for HDR either - so buying one will have 'less' impact, won't offer the Contrast, the range of Colour etc. The reason they cite Pixel Response is because of Scrolling up/down through Web Pages or Documents would be much more blurry and difficult to read with more smearing in motion caused by slow pixel response - often it's quite difficult to actually find out what the input Lag is on a Gaming Monitor as they only quote Pixel Response times.
      So not only is the Sony limited by a 120hz panel, its limited on HDMI ports for Gaming and 1 of those options is 'lost' if you also want to game with decent 'external' Audio options as these Flat TV's aren't the 'best' quality for Audio (hence its recommended to get a Soundbar). Its 'worse' than the other two on HDR and input lag (even if still 'decent') and unlike the other two isn't able to appeal to PC gamers.
      In other words, Sony's A95L looks more suited to the Film buff who may dabble with a Console (ideally for Sony a PS5 for 'best synergy') with the 'eARC' port used for Surround sound Audio systems. The other two are designed for those with more than 1 gaming Device - inc PC's as ALL their Ports are suitable for Gaming so better for Gamers....

    Since I want both gaming and movies for my TV (slightly biased towards gaming), I'll likely do the LG G4 once a massive sale happens. Even though color and image processing is a bit better on the Sony A95L, the worse input delay and lack of 1440p mode make it not as desirable for me as the G4 (even though it's close). As for Samsung, no DV makes it an automatic no for me (that and I don't like the idea of the Samsung One Connect box as that leads to a single point of failure if the port ever breaks).

    who among Sony, Panasonic and LG performs the best upscaling and who has the best motion processor for SDR streaming content?
    I would like to get the best live viewing for streaming sports content compressed with h264 and h265 codecs for example.
    Panasonic has now improved with the new MZ2000 models and with the new mk2 processor on Z95A on this side and I've seen LG has also improved...
    Sony still remains a point of reference or have things changed? I saw that Panasonic uses an IFC Accurate for Upscaling. In conclusion, how are Sony Panasonic and LG positioned in this area?

      LG G4 won by the collection of all merits no doubt. However, this class of TV has a clear use case: home cinema/entertainment enthusiast. The gaming issues called out for the A95L absolutely do not matter. Yes, video game consoles are connected to TVs and competitive gaming exists, but they do not intersect like we think it does. I care about both and built a high end gaming PC where I “try hard” and run ~120fps. However my TV connected PS5 experience does not care about anything over 60fps, even if I “try hard” there. It’s far more about the image, audio quality, and immersion.
      Even if I pretend I needed to use one TV and gaming screen for multiple consoles, movie watching, and PC while competitive gaming mattered, then 10ms input latency is still hilariously bad, but sure…take the LG G4. 98% of people buying a 55” or bigger are 100% not playing games competitively on these things.

I’ve heard most either recommend Apple TV 4K or Nvidia Shield. I just purchased a S90D tv and would also be curious if these streaming devices provide an upgrade in quality to high end smart TV’s. Lastly if a TV does not support something like Donny Vision but I were to stream from an Apple 4K tv which does support such a feature would the streaming devices support translate to the screen?

Because the panels themselves are pretty comparable and the LG is a better gaming TV.

    Sony A95L won the tv shootout in USA, making it the only tv ever to win 2 crowns in a row. A95L is now the king of 2023 and 2024.

    In a dark room that a95l and s95d are superior in color and contrast.when you turn on the lights the g4 beats them both in color and contrast making the other two displays look like LCD panels

      How much is it in Germany? I bought one in the Netherlands for 3195 and will get a 400 cashback from LG. So in the end it's 2795

    How long will these TVs be lasting physical and morally? Where do they go after that?

    Huge question here. Would a 1080p blu-ray look significantly better upscaled on the A95L over the G4? Or would it be almost impossible to tell the difference? This will determine which tv I will buy. For the 65 inch model.

      I think that might be a close one but I think Sony will slightly be better. Just remember sony only has 2 120hz inputs compared to lg has 4 hdmi 144hz
