    This repair would've taken me an hour or more if it wasn't for your video, factoring in the time to figure out the correct allen key size and where the bolt is located, I would've probably had to remove the expansion. It took me only 15 minutes thanks to your video, it would've taken me even less if there was no blue loctite on the bolt. Thank you for sharing : )

    Thanks for posting this! The Bentley manual doesn't show where this sensor is nor did it mention the ring or cleaning out the site before installation of the new part. This video was SUPER helpful! Got it done in 15 minutes. :)

      You're welcome Morgan! Happy this worked out for you. I would recommend replacing the intake sensor at the same time if it's original to your car as well. Here's a link to doing the intake side: ua-cam.com/video/yVayKZKqkBw/v-deo.html

    Thank you great video. Question, will you please show us how to do the crankshaft position sensor under the vehicle without removing the starter? Also will the engine light clear on its own, once the faulty part is replaced??

    just a tip for everyone if you are unable to remove the viscous fan on some models (no 32mm wrench) you are able to remove the front right headlight and it will give you clearance to access the bolt underneath the sensor i did it this way.
    Edit: I have to note this only applies to right hand drive models, as I noticed in the video the expansion tank is blocking access to the sensor in the left hand drive models.

    The code for this part should be P0340. The bolt should be torqued to 7 Nm which is about 5,2 ft lb. Thank you for the video.

    I couldn't push my sensor back in fully do you have to apply a lot of pressure? The old sensor went back in nice and easy.

      My friend said the same thing. He said if i use red, it may never come back out. I bought red because i can see the red on the bolt. Does Germany have different colors than America for locktite? I don't know which way to go 🤷‍♀️

    My X3 was throwing an intermittent P340 code, Gas mileage decreased and was running not quite as smooth at idle . Will do the change in the next couple of days, do the plugs at the same time, NGK going in, Bosch out

    Hi i recently changed my camshaft sensor and after changing got a code saying the sensor is too advanced, then right after started to get misfiring codes and fuel too rich followed by fuel mix too lean. Also to note the too advance code went away but the other codes remained along with misfiring fuel cut in cylinder 4,5,6 which caused the check engine light to come on for the first time since owning the car.. Also to note once reusing the old non-working camshaft sensor the check engine light went off and all the above codes went away with just the camshaft position sensor code present.

    I got a problem with my 01 530i, it has low power bellow 3k and exhaust vanos faults. I replaced solenoid, did Vanos seals, PCV and still no results. Only thing that has worked is when I blip the throttle on startup that very second engine starts it all works fine and I got tons of power from low end! Could it be faulty camshaft sensor that throws no faults?? Thanks!

    Just did mine. Code went away 12hrs after I ordered a new sensor. Started to think that I should have taken a reading with a voltmeter. We will see if this is the end of it. No other issues, noises, etc suggesting otherwise.

    Question.. i followed your other video for the camshaft position sensor, which btw was great also. I replaced it but I still got the P0014 after i replaced it. I got this sensor also but wanted to know would that code also be because of the exhaust sensor going bad?

    • @BIMMERZEITT
      @BIMMERZEITT  6 років тому +2

      Hey Ron, unfortunately it is possible to get a dud for a new part. Happens to me once in a while, repair shops see it more often because of the volume of repairs they do. I would first check your work, make sure the contacts are clean and it's plugged all the way in. If that's the case, order a new sensor and swap it out for the old one. They're very sensitive cars when it comes to these sensors.

    • @ronfowler9563
      @ronfowler9563 6 років тому +1

      Thanks for responding. I ended up putting in the exhaust sensor, reset the code and the light went off. Drove it and it stayed off until I start the car back up and the SES light came back on instantly. I've seen some forums whereas the vanos solenoid(s) can seize, giving off this code. Have you heard that before?

  • @markdonovan4157

    Oh yeah just reach under and squeeze the clip and casually take the connector off... of course unless it has never been removed and then you have to move the coolant reservoir to the side spill a puddle of coolant on the ground remove the sensor with the plug still on get the sensor out in the open still struggle with the plug for another 5 minutes and finally you got the plug off.
