    I'll tell you a trick for off road longevity on your back wheel. Big tires anywhere from 2.25 to 2.6. The bigger the better and the thicker the better. This trick will prevent damage to your rear wheels and make them last longer. I tested this for over 15 years and it never fails to save a back wheel from damage.

    I got one of these kits a year and a bit back to upgrade a 250w geared hum motor and out the box i was not overly happy, the sw800 screen it came with was not able to show true wattage as it only counted up to 999w and anything after sat 1200w would look like 200w and battery indicator never worked properly and no mater what settings i set in it the controller never followed the settings plus the included controller was square wave so incredibly noisy, for this reason i upgraded to a KT 1000w controller that peaks at 1200w also got a LCD3 but then replaced with a colour KT-LCD8 as the combo was far better to program and control and also since it is sinewave it is utterly silent. power wise for me it is not that fast to accelerate but it gets up to 31mph on a flat and about 20 into a strong wind, over all its good and i use it daily to commute to work. The battery i got however is less than impressive, the one i went for was a 48v ( supposedly ) 17.5ah using ( supposedly new ) Samsung 35e cells in a 13 by 5 config, a year later and only around 300 charge cycles it is getting mad degradation to the point it sags to 44v - 45v after around 9 miles, after opening it i noticed the cells had other weld marks indicating that the cells were not new but repurposed, so word of warning that not all new battery's have new cells in them and its probably better to make your own if you know how to.

    I bought a front wheel 1000w Voilamart kit off eBay nearly 3 yrs ago, have used it most days since then for my commute to work & performs faultlessly. Was £115 at the time , they are now double that , I paid £200 for a decent battery & that has performed well & still holds charge as good as the day I fitted it, the only thing I regularly replace is brake blocks as they soon wear out going from 30+ mph quickly down to zero 🤣

    Great Video! Looks like you have a Very Nice Bike. I was surprised to see that you are not even running shifters to make gear selections.
    I recently got one of these Voilamart kits and am yet to put it on a bike. I'm still saving money to buy the batteries.
    It's good to hear that you are happy with the hub motor after a whole year of using it. I'm hoping to build a Ebike with this to use when I don't need a car.
    The bike I am using has good working V-brakes that I will start off with, but the frame and forks both have disc brake mounts so that I can upgrade later.
    I have not decided if I should use the brake levers that came with the kit that have switches to shut off the motor. I see that you are not using them, so maybe they are not necessary? Also did you ever try to use the cadence sensor that mounts down by the cranks?
    My understanding is that the kit's PAS (pedal assist system) only delivers full throttle when the cranks are turning so a twist throttle affords better variable control of the motor. Thank you for making a video of your experience! I have found it very useful in the planning of my own Ebike conversion.

      Be careful with battery's as it is a mine field, most of the ones out there are using cheap china cells that do not have the capacity the claim or the nessesery amp out put to run safely, add to that most ebay sellers use recovered cells but sell as new, of the 4 i got on ebay and one on amazon all of them used recovered cells, so if you are confident it might be better to make your own, its what I did and it was way cheaper even factoring in buying a small spot welder

    Where was this video a few months ago when i got mine! So far so good with mine, put a few hundred miles on it already and no complaints.
    My advise to newbies...INVEST IN MASSIVE TYRES and/or AVOID KERB JUMPING!!! The weight on the back tyre has meant I've had 3 pinch punctures because of jumping kerbs. This happened using the in box tyre and even a 2.1 x 26" tyre i had on another bike. Im now running Maxxis Hookworms which are 2.5 wide and its running amazing!

    • @robotbroken

      @HabZ Rahman
      Thanks for the advice on running fatter tires. I'm not sure if my older frame will be able to clear a 2.5 inch wide tire, but I will be sure to pack it with the widest that it will accept. I've looked at the hookworm tires before but have never tried them. The idea that you've mated them to an electric hub motor sounds pretty tempting. That tread pattern on a large casing seems like it would turn an electric mountain bike into a bit of super moto that would stick well to the pavement at higher speeds.
      Did you use the PAS (pedal assist system) that mounts down by the cranks or the brake levers supplied with the kit?

    • @habzzz
      @habzzz 4 роки тому +1

      @@robotbroken Tbh, my frame is a Diamondback from 2012 and just about had enough space. 2.5 isnt a "plus" sized tyre so theres a good chance it'll fit. I was worried about running slickish tyres in rainy old Britain but this week has been wet and cold and theyve held up really well!
      In terms on brakes, ive gone for the sensors used for hydraulic brakes. The connectors matched on the voilamart controller and used the 3m tape with super glue to secure them to the brake/gear combo. Best of luck!

      I am going to have to try a set of those Maxxis Hookworms at some point. I've been tempted to try them before but was scared off by them weighing a bit more than most tires. I think that the extra material would be a benefit on an Ebike.
      Are you using the crank cadence sensor that came with the kit or are you mostly using the throttle to supplement your own efforts?

    • @habzzz
      @habzzz 4 роки тому +1

      @@robotbroken When thinking of weight and ebikes, the trade off is worth it for durability and convenience! With a torque arm and a not very long phase/hall wire cable and cable tied cable management... Changing a rear hub inner tube ain't fun!!! Besides, they look great! Supermoto style is exactly it. I think more like a motorcyclist than a bicyclist (if that is a word) when it comes to ebikes now in terms of weight.

    • @robotbroken
      @robotbroken 4 роки тому +1

      @@habzzz I just had a chance to look at the bike again that I'm planning to use. It's a pre 2010 alluminum Trek that was built before tire companies offered larger sizes. The front suspension fork has plenty of room for a 2.5. The rear triangle currently has a 2.2 inch Michelin knobby that I find the actual measurement to be 2.25 inches. leaving barely an eighth of an inch on each side of the tire and the chain or seat stays. that is a 3.175 mm gap between current tire and tubing. Maybe I could do the big Hookworm up front and something slightly smaller in the rear. I think that I have an old Maxxis Holy Roller around here somewhere that is 2.30 or 2.40. I should put that on the back of the bicycle to see where my clearances stand.
      Your point is well taken about trying to prevent flats. I live in the Arizona desert with lots of stickers and thorns, so I will probably use tire sealant (slime) and tire liners to fortify the tires. Thanks for all the tips! If you ever happen to get close to your bike with a ruler, I would be curious to know what the actual width measurement of your Hookworms in either inches or millimeters?

    Probably a good idea to stick to back roads and English country side. I know how much your British UK police (im Canadian are cops dont really care) have a hard on for sticking it to illegal ebike riders. Best to stay under the rader with these things.

    I’m considering Bufang for my long tail cargo bike to transport kids. Its a Surly. These sounded appeasing for cheap, there’s a used kit for $120, well.. still on package, I don’t want Junk, though?

    Hi wondering if you can help me I have the same kit on mine as soon as it goes over about 30mph the motor starts vibrating every time I built one a few years ago and don’t think that one did it it doesn’t do it if you lift the back wheel up and test at full throttle just when your riding it. Do you know if yours does the same? Thanks

    • @KF1
      @KF1 2 роки тому

      sounds like it's slightly out of alignment. the faster you spin it, the more the vibration will become apparent. Maybe take it to a bike shop and ask them to true it up by adjusting the spoke tension? Not sure, but sounds like that kinda thing.
