  • After reviewing several different videos, and researching how to change the alternator on a 2004 Toyota 4Runner, 4.7 L V8 I finally getting the confidence to dive in
Every Bolt that was removed had to be heated up with a torch to get it out. One bolt I did not heat up and it broke.
The power steering pump pulley was removed along with the front passenger tire, Radiator water overflow reservoir, and sway bar to provide access to remove the alternator.
This was very time consuming although I am glad I was able to get it completed because the dealership wanted four hours labor which was about $600. It actually took me 4 1/2 hours to do the entire job from setting everything up to cleaning everything up .
I hope this video helps someone else over come the fear of changing the alternator on their 4.7 L V8.

Appreciate the positive feedback. Take your time and go slow. I thought it was an impossible job but after the dealership wanted over $1000 for labor only I was motivated. I thought the pulley on the power steering would need a puller but it comes right off easily. Just heat up them bolts. I broke one thinking I was ok. I heated all the rest. Let me know how it goes. Thank again for the feedback

@@jakemir wow dealer wanted 1000 just for labor!! That’s insane. I was just quoted 675 out the door at Toyota of Cleveland. But I’m still here seeing it I wanna tackle this job myself. Thanks for the video.

@@alexg3204 it’s not bad just time consuming. I am glad I used heat because I only broke one bolt and it was the one 10mm I didn’t think was an issue. I was still use an OEM alternator so you never have to do it again. I only removed the alternator pulley and it was enough to reach the bolts

Hoping to do this next weekend. I think my mechanic was reasonable at $476 for parts and labor, but we are going try it ourselves.

I like that you gave us a very detailed real experience with a rusty car. Might not be the video for me bc it’s way too long but I do like how real it is! Try doing some cuts perhaps, might take your time down and your views up!

I do not edit most of my videos. I just make a recording with my phone and stitch them all together. I try to add chapters. I do not plan to monetize, I just want to try and help others. I am amazed at other UA-cam videos and just don’t have the time to spend editing. I really appreciate the feedback!

I was able to get mine out the bottom without removing the sway bar. Instead I unbolted most of the hose brackets and moved the hoses out of the way. Wasn’t easy but it’s possible probably took similar time as well. Thanks for the video

Did you have to get the tire back on and get off the jack so you can get the sway bar back on?

I left the passenger side tire off and use the small bottle jack to realign the sway bar in both back in
