  • In this episode the new 4Runned gets its first major offroad mod, a Bilstein 5100 Suspension Lift. The kit is made to lift the Toyota 2.5 inches, and that's exactly the result I got. The front shocks use a snap-ring to hold the weight of the vehicle, which doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. but having now tested it myself it seems to hold up fine offroad.
    All this and more, this time on Full Tilt Drift!

    I also have a 4runner the same year and I would like to let the public know just because you purchased the front control arm your lift is still incomplete. With bigger springs in the rear and stock rear control arms with stock track bar it sucks the tires towards the rear door and changes your wheel base and pinion angle. So with the same kit shown in the video you still need a front diff drop sway bar drop and adjustable rear arms along with adjustable track bar or bracket for track bar and measure your wheel base before you lift it and measure you pinion angle and try to match the best you can to save your ride quality and wear on components...and curb appeal,I find it funny when I see the back tires looking like the truck trying to poop 💩 haha 🤣🤣 all love great video just passing the information

    What spring did you use in the rear?

    Looks good. Did the ride quality improve?

    • @fulltiltdrift
      @fulltiltdrift  2 роки тому +1

      Define "improve." It got taller so the handling isnt better and it will lean over more in turns. It feels kind of stiff mostly over speed bumps and such. Where it really shines in on the trail. Easy and smooth 40-50mph, completely controllable on some rough dirt roads.

    Hi, i Have question about the rear part, I'm thinking getting bilstein 5100 for my 4th gen 4runner but can I using OEM spring and will it compatible with this longer body struts? Thanks

    Nice job!! I just brought a 2004 4runner with a set of Bilstein 5100 on front and rear. I would like to change the rear air bag suspension to spring in the further, do you have any suggested spring?

    hows the alignment ? did you need and upper control arm for the front?

    • @fulltiltdrift
      @fulltiltdrift  Рік тому

      If i drove it a lot i would go with the upper arm to save on the tire wear. I went without it and it has been fine for me. there is some increased outside tire wear but nothing dramatic.

    which spring did you use in the rear?

  • @CBW0314

    Has the ride quality suffered due to the front spring being compressed on the maximum front shock setting? Also what spring did you use in the rear?

    • @fulltiltdrift
      @fulltiltdrift  2 роки тому +5

      Thats not exactly how it works. The spring remains compressed the same amount it just starts at a higher point on the shock body. Thus the lift

    • @CBW0314
      @CBW0314 2 роки тому

      @@fulltiltdrift wow I did not know that, so what you’re saying is the spring remains compressed the same amount even at 1.75 inch setting compared to the 0 inch setting?

    • @fulltiltdrift
      @fulltiltdrift  2 роки тому +3

      @@CBW0314 yup, spring compression when the car is on the ground is the same amount no matter what setting you have it on

    I have 2008 forerunner and I wanna replace the X-ray as delete it and put on new shocks front back now I'm hearing if you lift it too high you could damage the U joints from the front drive system out of the transfer case is that true I will not set it that high I'll keep it on the low setting Was your ride height set to specs will it will not mess up the OEM drive train🤔🤷

    • @fulltiltdrift
      @fulltiltdrift  Рік тому

      nope at 3" lift you shouldnt hurt anything in the drivetrain.

  • @kennyfoster4733
    @kennyfoster4733 Рік тому

    I forgot another question so these are good shocks to do for me I really don't do off routine but I love my forerunner and the suspicion needs to be deleted and replaced

    • @fulltiltdrift
      @fulltiltdrift  Рік тому

      if you dont offroad it, I don't recommend lifting it. it will be far less enjoyable ton drive and get worse gas mileage

    With the suspension already shot (like my xreas) did you regret putting the snap ring onto the top setting? I heard people complain about the roughness of the ride and going down one. Thanks!

    • @fulltiltdrift
      @fulltiltdrift  2 роки тому

      No regret at all. I wouldnt call the ride rough, but i might have a skewed opinion considering i like my cars lowered usually

    Don't you need to change the upper control arm now that the angle has changed?

    • @fulltiltdrift
      @fulltiltdrift  2 роки тому +2

      Not unless I want a really perfect alignment. A little bit of camber wont hurt and the tires dont seem to mind it in 10k miles.
