@@EnigmaEngineering was this car tuned? Could you do a video on the gas mileage? Was it just headers? Or full exhaust and x pipe. What year is the 4 runner?
Just a side note that is important to know. Those extra ports in the new exhaust gasket is for the 2UZFE's that has the secondary air pump. They introducted the air pumps on the 2005+ year cars. If you plan on getting aftermarket headers, make sure the headers DO or do NOT have the piping for the air pump. They are built into the new headers. It will depend what year engine you have. Dude. I'm shocked no one has done this video before and you did an outstanding job. I will be needing to do this for my car soon. Does the new exhaust set up effect passing emissions?
The Gibson exhaust does not affect the emissions. But, if emissions is a consideration, go with the "shorty headers" that re-use stock cats or upgrade to high flow cats. Email for a better explanation: enigmaengineeringllc@gmail.com
Excellent job. I have a 05 V8. I'm a Machinist also and it was pleasant to see you take care of the details. Did you put new heat sheilds on or consider wrapping the headers?
I hope you change the timing belt since you said you have around 200,000 miles on it the timing belt should be changed and water pump gas I see you put the spark plugs and just saying sometimes you can put new coils in it and that would help to for more power and a supercharger good video keep up the good work can’t wait to see you next one thank you
In the wiring part of the video it would be best to use splices crimped in with barrel connectors then a better choice of the kind of heat shrink is adhesive lined SCL which isolates the rigged areas from flexing. SCL should always be used over solider joints to reduce flexing of the joints
Great video! I have an 08 that hopefully will get the shorty headers with new cats at some point soon. The Gibson cat back is great! One recommendation that might be worth looking into, later model v8s have a plastic intake manifold that beyond saving a few pounds, allegedly makes more power.
My 09 is worse every skid plate bolt broke after spraying for a week in advance. I’m at a crossroads idk if I should invest in upgrades only 90k NY is tough with the salt great video!
Great job. I''ve got an 08 V8 and also considering doing the DT headers. I would love to get a lift in my garage though...that makes it soooo much easier. haha. Again, great job.
Great vid! How is towing now? Debating about getting one and moding it for a few more ft lbs of torque to help tow a bass boat. That's how I stumbled upon your channel. Def subscribed just to see what's next!
When you add an extension to a torque wrench you throw off the reading based on how long the extension is. Good work, ive been looking for a install video for these to see how bad it will suck on the ground. The stock exhaust manifold is known to break and these headers are the best replacement option. Thanks for the video.
A wicked angle of approach can throw the torque off a lot too. A swivel connection at a severe angle might only be putting 50% of the torque into the plane perpendicular and concentric to the bolt, and 50% of the torque might be just bending the bolt. Torque wrench is nice for a sanity check (and humor) tho. Thank you for the comment; good luck on the installation!
This video is really well put together and something that is going to be extremely helpful for the 4th Gen 4Runner community. Any plans for suspension? I have been using mine as a dedicated tow rig and and want to improvement over the X-REAS as well.
Hi Nicholas, thank you! I have been eyeing up this job for a while and hope it helps people out. Although lifts look great, I am probably going to just keep it at (or near) factory height. My plan is to replace the X-REAS with Bilstein B6 4600
@@EnigmaEngineering I replaced my X-REAS with Old Man Emu - have probably 3000 miles off road on it - including doing the TAT. Went with medium duty springs in the back b/c I also use it a tow rig. Hi James - thank you so much for the comment! I really appreciate it. I have been working on cars for 18 years (self taught), but took a 5+ year break for a career - but got back into the garage this past year to stay sane. Most car projects seem daunting in their entirety, but breaking them up into smaller little jobs and keeping a process around critical path "points of no return" makes jobs like the header job manageable. Good luck with your 2007 - keep us posted with your work!

Excellent job. I have a 05 V8. I'm a Machinist also and it was pleasant to see you take care of the details. Did you put new heat sheilds on or consider wrapping the headers?
I hope you change the timing belt since you said you have around 200,000 miles on it the timing belt should be changed and water pump gas I see you put the spark plugs and just saying sometimes you can put new coils in it and that would help to for more power and a supercharger good video keep up the good work can’t wait to see you next one thank you
Did your under hood temperatures go up? My old truck melted the upper control arm bushings. Did you install new heat shields?
At 18:59 you are explaining the wye pipe but why are there two oxygen sensors side by side. How can they operate without throwing the P0420 and P0430
Thanks for this. Watching this really prepared me for what i want to do. And was that Tool and Puscifer i heard playing in the BG?
Great video! It sounds great as well!
Thank you! Let us know how the shorty installation is on the 08! Your intake solution sounds like it might be better than the Volant
@@EnigmaEngineering you can still use the volant intake with the other version if the intake manifold, unless I'm mistaken
Thank you very much! The headers are awesome - on a new 08 it would be worth the effort. Lol the lift is cheating I know
@@EnigmaEngineering Wish I lived closer....I would be a great friend...I have beer. LMAO
Great video I will be doing this to my two wheel drive V8 4runner!
A 2WD 4runner is a tempting candidate for an LS swap - just sayin
Except the V8 ones never had 2 wheel drive, the V8 always had 4 wheel drive
@@flipperbooch2194 I have a 2wd 4runner?
@@flipperbooch2194 That is incorrect. Most of the V8s were AWD, some were 2WD.
@@flipperbooch2194 My 05' V8 is 2wd
This video is really well put together and something that is going to be extremely helpful for the 4th Gen 4Runner community. Any plans for suspension? I have been using mine as a dedicated tow rig and and want to improvement over the X-REAS as well.
Hi Nicholas, thank you! I have been eyeing up this job for a while and hope it helps people out. Although lifts look great, I am probably going to just keep it at (or near) factory height. My plan is to replace the X-REAS with Bilstein B6 4600
Enigma Engineering how many hours do you think you put into the install for the full exhaust?
For the exhaust by itself, around 3 hours. For this entire job, I think 12 hours (1.5 days) would be a good budget
@@EnigmaEngineering I replaced my X-REAS with Old Man Emu - have probably 3000 miles off road on it - including doing the TAT. Went with medium duty springs in the back b/c I also use it a tow rig. Hasn't missed a beat. Total bolt on installation, too! If its good enough for the Australian Outback - it's good enough for the USA! LOL
Thank you so much for this video! I've got the gibson catback but I'm going to need to install headers and y pipe aswell. Not excited at all but I love the car so I'll get it done lmao
No problem!! Good luck with the installation. Budget some breaks in on the install and you'll be alright
Hey man, this was so interesting to watch. I don’t know much about anything related to mechanics but you made it easy to follow and understand, at least what I can understand haha I have an ‘07 4Runner V8 and it’s inspired me to learn more so that I can do amazing things to the rig in the future. It’s videos like this that fuel the fire! Where did you learn how to work on vehicles and how long have you been doing it?
Hi James - thank you so much for the comment! I really appreciate it. I have been working on cars for 18 years (self taught), but took a 5+ year break for a career - but got back into the garage this past year to stay sane. Most car projects seem daunting in their entirety, but breaking them up into smaller little jobs and keeping a process around critical path "points of no return" makes jobs like the header job manageable. Good luck with your 2007 - keep us posted with your work!
good job, dude. i love my 06 t4r with dt shorties. you'll love the new and improved rig too.
Thanks. Awesome. Did you run your OEM cats on the shorties?
@@EnigmaEngineering correct, factory "first" cats welded inplace where the "second" cats were
17:23 holy mother of extensions
WELL DONE ! subbed ...thank you for doing all this including the dyno..
Hi Ringer, thank you so much! Nice GX470/miata/s2k!
Amazing video and guide! Love my fourth gen. I don't have a lift or half the tools but I want to do this now
Great video!! I also have a v8 2004 and did the exact mods, except my Y pipe is custom and used a magnaflow muffler. Did you tune your 4runner yet? URD makes I believe it's a aftermarket AFM so we can tune them. Wondering what kind of extta power is gained by tuning. I contacted them since I'm not far from them but seemed they are very busy
That does sound awesome
