The alternator on my 04 tundra just went out as It just turned over 350k. I can’t be mad at her for that. Thanks for the video. Big help.

Many THANKS for this video. I would have torn much more apart without you passing this knowledge on. New alternator installed in a fraction of the time it would have been. THANK YOU!

Thanks for the video... I've gotten good at removing the radiator (8 bolts and the 2 hoses) and preserving all the fluids (coolant and transmission). Makes toons of room to work in there.

Thanks for the step by step removal and installation of the alt man. I really appreciated this. It was a pain on my back but it really saved me some money. Cost me 60$ to fix it at a shop.

Great! very helpful, glad I watched this first.
Those 3 bolts and 2 nuts were very difficult. Wish I had a 14mm deep socket. I was able to loosen most of them with a box wrench and cheater and then finish with a regular socket.

    Thanks for video, much appreciated
Would the alternator cause a crank no start? I’m not getting fuel, checked relay and pump, it’s good, checked crankshaft position good, just running in circles, not getting a signal at FPR pin (red green wire that goes to FPR) at PCM but I’m getting Power at the FPResistor
Feeling a bit defeated on it

The battery light on my 2006 4runner 4.7L ( 211,000) went on today , after setting for 6 months. I guess it is time for a new alternator. Can you recommend a good alternator source?
    Thanks for the video.

Thank you for the great video! My 2003 Tundra has 185000 miles now and I have been wondering about the life limit on the alternator?? According to your video, it gives a few warning signals when it is about to fail?

    • @chadhouse1375

phil kite I have a 2006 Tundra and the alternator just went out at 232,000. It gave me warnings on the charge gauge. It began flickering from half to quarter for months, then recently stayed at a quarter charge and I knew that it had to be addressed. The original alternator is a great one. I would recommend at the time of issues to remove it and have it rebuilt ( new brushes) for around $50 bucks and know you still have the original piece of equipment. What he does in this video for removal,I would amend and remove the whole air box assembly. I also removed the six mm stud behind the power steering pump on the top so I could swing the power steering pump to the side. There’s also a rubber shroud in the drivers wheel well that has four plastic clips. Remove that to remove 10mm nut of of the alternator power supply and then swing alternator down, unplug and remove out the top.

So in replacing my timing timing belt with the engine in the car on my wife’s ’06 Sequoia, as I was putting the alternator back on, I had my torque wrench set at 29 ft/lbs for the top 14mm nut, and was just wrenching away when I heard a pop, and only then did I step back and notice the whole alternator, when viewing it from dead ahead in front of the vehicle, had started to twist to the left, so that its pulley was a good bit out of line with the rest of the pulleys - and this was with the bottom bolt and smaller 12mm nut in the middle at least snugged up. How is that even possible? Does the top back portion of the alternator not actually rest or get pressed up against the engine block?
I took the bolt and two nuts back off and slid the alternator back off the studs to get a look at everything and nothing appeared to be obviously bent, so I put it back on, torqued the lower bolt and middle nut to spec, and then basically just ran down the top nut until it appeared to be in line with the rest of the pulleys (basically right up to where it wanted to start twisting again), and am hoping that will be good enough when I get the belt back on and get ready to fire it up. Have you or anyone else ever heard of/seen anything like that? Thanks for the videos and your insights!

If you pull the PS pump its not that bad. Then remove the alternator from the top.

A public service announcement for everyone who will be attempting this job: REMOVE THE RADIATOR! I repeat...REMOVE THE RADIATOR!
I replaced my alternator this morning. removing the radiator took me 30 minutes, after that, full replacement of the alternator, reinstalling the belt, and reinstalling the radiator took an hour and fifteen minutes...including trips back into the garage to get more tools. It was so fast because I had almost a foot of clear space in front of the alternator and power steering pump. Draining the coolant from the radiator (use this as an opportunity to flush your cooling system if it needs it) is the longest part of the job. The rad is held on by 4 bolts and the lower part of the fan shroud unclips so you can lift the rad out shroud and all.

Lol, that comment about the destruction plate. I had a Honda hybrid that I did an oil change on. The filter screw was chunked and I didn’t seat it all the way home unknowingly. Put the bottom cover back on and customer drove away, catching all the oil before I saw it. That one cost me an engine.

What about the sway bar that's on my truck? I tried to remove it and there's no way to hold onto the nut inside of the frame! Now I have an alternator stuck in the bottom with no way to get it out the bottom!

Question. I am a new subscriber. I have an 02 Tundra 4.7. I replaced the steering rack a while back and forgot to center the wheel and tires before removing. I busted the clock spring and now have no horn and no cruise control. I replaced clock spring and still no worky. I've seen videos on the steering shaft bearing getting Rusty and resulting in a bad ground. I have also checked the fuses and relays. Any thoughts? Thanks!!
