Кращі басисти епохи!
Дякую Вам!!🙏
Дійсно! Дивовижний талант тут! Дякую за перегляд!
What an amaizing duo !
Two of the best! Thanks for watching. Don't forget to subscribe, if you haven't done so already!
Jeff and Jaco. The two best electric bassists to ever do it. I studied with Jeff, and hung out with Jaco a few times. This video should be preserved in a museum somewhere. They rarely played together, yet they’re the ones who started the virtuosic bass style.
Thank you Steve!
I also studied with Jeff, at BIT.. He taught me chord melody ..He is the man.
This is "CUP-D", man! Thanks! In 1982, Jeff played his version of "Over the Rainbow" on my bass, that almost brought me to tears. in 1981 Jaco let me play his bass in a dive bar in France and he played drums (Good drummer!) when I was playing bass with Joe Cocker.
Great story, Arthur ! A couple of good players here !
Nice story. I never had a chance to play with Berlin or Pastorius... but with Jack Bruce in Munich, Germany. Not on stage, not as a drummer, but backstage in a room with a pool billiard after sound check. He totally destroyed me ;-)
Here's A True Story...Blessed Musicians...The Imfamous "Shawn Rickman " Referred me to The Imfamous " Marcus Miller"...Blessed Marcus Called me...A Dammm shame...I missed that call 📞...I'm 51 years of age now...just hoping for Another Exclusive High End Gig Oportunity...💜💯⭐⛪🕊🕊🕊🌎🙏.
Alas, I was never never a cohort with the likes of yourself and them - more's the pity.
I am so glad someone finally posted this, I always have heard just the segment where Jeff gets to solo….and then it cuts out and it makes Jeff look like he was the one moving around( of course Jeff posts that one) thank you!
Thanks for the nice comment! Two great musicians!
This brings back memories. I was at MI in the late 80s. I met Jeff, and he taught a class. Never met Jaco, but Jeff was a very intense guy and really inspiring to be around. I also met Norman Brown, a guitarist who taught there. He went on to produce many albums. Those were the good' ole days.
Hi Craig, thanks for watching. MI was a great experience, I guess for everyone who attended, with many inspiring teachers and students. Great times!
Jaco play great and so clean on the fretless here! He couldn’t ask for a better duo bassist than Jeff Berlin. A truly underrated master.
Thanks for watching Raymond!
This is unbelievable!!! Thank you!
Glad you like it! Thank you for watching!
Finally I got to hear this whole thing. THANKS!!!
My pleasure ! Thank you for watching Amar !
They harmonize incredibly well!
Real treasures you upload there! Thanks!
Thank you Andreas!
This sounds so cool! Two legends who dominated bass are jamming together! Insane talent.
I agree. Thank you for watching!
Awesome collab of two great electric jazz musicians 👍
Bass legends indeed! Thanks for watching!
This is really nice to listen to- love the work of both of these players, lots of music coming out of two four strings right here.
First and last time they got to play together!
both jam with their soul... amazing
Thank you for watching, Victor! Don't hesitate to subscribe and share!
Thanks a lot for sharing! Been on the lookout for the full length video for years. Maturity in Jaco's performance, Jeff trying to find his feet...
Thank you for the comment and for watching. Still remains a strong once in a lifetime encounter!
Petter, I have a lot of respect for Jaco and he was definitely a pioneer in so many ways on the bass, but you were apparently not hearing the same playing that I was. Most of the time, Jaco was grasping at straws to try to hear what Jeff was playing in order to play something that harmonized with it, while when the shoe was on the other foot and it was Jeff's turn to solo, Joco tried desperately to throw Jeff some curve balls to trip him up, but Jeff was able to hear and respond appropriately with complimentary passages. There were only one or two times where Jaco tripped him up, but for the most part, Jeff is the better musician of the two of them. I think Jaco is awesome and he will always be a bass icon, but I don't worship Jaco and think that he's the best player out there. There are so many other players that rival Jaco. But then again, music like any other art is very subjective.
@@Steveleter I get your point. But please bear in mind that this was Jaco on meds, and practically brought on stage directly from the street. Apparently Jeff was acting like an a***** this day and was trying to throw Jaco off, begging him to play with him. He had also warmed up prior to this performance, while as I said, Jaco did not rehearse or warm up beforegand. This should have been recorded in 1975, before Jaco’s downfall began. Jeff is great, world class, and one of the greatest as well. Kudos to him for his tremendous personal growth I might add. But he did not compose orchestral music, teen town, havona, portrait of tracy etc. Listen to Criteria Sessions from 1975, on YT and Spotify.
@@SteveleterI do see some of your points regarding the right hand work and chord navigation.. but there’s really no comparing these two like as if it were a sport. Jaco, albeit at a more tumultuous time in his life, is still hanging right in there and playing innovative ideas. Jeff may have “outplayed” him at this time, but Jeff, during this period was teaching these tunes everyday whereas Jaco had not been. If they had a competition to see who could fill and entertain an auditorium of people with only original tunes…. you may say Jaco “won”
When Jaco went into that right hand tapping thing 😮
He could do it all. Thank you for watching!
Wow! I have been wanting to see this for almost 20 years. Until your posting, I have only seen a 2 min clip that Jeff Berlin showed in his instructional bass VHS. Thanks again!
You're welcome CF! I worked hard to put my hands on these tapes. Thanks to Musicians Institute!
Master & Grand Master
A couple of pretty good bass players indeed! Thank you for watching!
Absolutely top world class level.
Thanks for share!
Thank you, Moritz TV !
AWESOME!
Thank you !
Jaco e Jeff, dois monstros absolutos.
Absolutamente! Obrigado por assistir. Não deixe de se inscrever e compartilhar!
Excellent! If this happened just one year later...I would have been there to witness the event! I was a BIT student 1986-87.
One year too late ! But hey, catch it up now ! Thank you for watching!
Kurt, you were in my class!
@@michaelsinclair2165 Hi Michael! Wow! That was quite a time, wasn't it! Hope you are doing well and still playing the bass! FYI, Thank God, I no longer where my hair standing in a six inch mohawk! LOL!
@@Bassmint44 I'm too young to have been there but alas I am another Morrow, greetings.
Sweet. 2 of my faves.
Indeed! Thanks for watching!
Loved your drumming for the jazz and funk jam with Frank and Jaco...
Thank you so much Francesco Antonio!
bro the e jam is so killing sheesh
Thanks for watching! Don't hesitate to share and subscribe!
FANTÁSTICO!
Gracias Eduardo!
9:52 one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard
Soooo melodic! And all improvised...
Very cool. Thanks for sharing. Great drumming man
Thank you Guy !
Fantastisk!
Thank you Melis !

Thanks for the comment and for watching!
I love Jeff's playing on Allan Holdsworths Roadgames.Jcsx
Jeff is amazing in his own way (water On The Brain). Thank you, John!
The Road Games tour was astonishingly good. Jeff’s harmonic counterpoint against Holdsworth’s was something to behold. Chad Wackerman lyrical drumming helped make this power trio sound like an orchestra. They were so good.
@@patrickbuchmann-sdinganuff
I transcribed Water on the Brain way back then with my cassette tape machine and pencil and paper. I think I still have it somewhere. A great Jeff Berlin solo from that era indeed.
@@TheSteveSteele go find this transcription!
@@patrickbuchmann-sdinganuff I’ll look for it. I definitely have the notes from our lessons and a recording of one lesson. I also transcribed a couple of solos from Jeff’s first album Champion. Dixie was one for sure, but I’m guessing that’s been published by now in some form. I think the other one was the solo from 20,000 Prayers, or maybe it was another song. It’s been a long time! 35 years? 😳Oh yeah, I also did If You Can’t Stand the Heat from Bruford’s first album. The harmony was simple but his speed and precision is on that track is incredible.
Wow! Jeff Berlin is the" most underrated bassist ever"...His comping is world-class, its piano-like...Just like his solos. He is the master, and I am a big Jaco fan. But Jaco got schooled here, to my ears. I didn't think this could happen, had someone told me this, I wouldn't believe them. I had to watch it 3 times.....Yes, I'm smoking something.
A unique encounter indeed. Two of the greatest bass players united for this historical jam! Thanks for watching.
Super ! Ca doit te faire bizarre de revoir cet endroit Patrick... ;) Je me souviens quand on s'est vu que tu m'as dit que tu y étais allé... Super expérience, isn't it?
Jaco has HUGE hands. Also, what is with the Kellogs pick guard?
Thank you for watching. It's jut a Kellog's sticker on this Fender fretless bass that was lent to Jaco that day, along with with a Jay Dee bass earlier on. Jaco didn't have his own basses with him..
@@patrickbuchmann-sdinganuff Thank you for posting this very cool piece of history
I haven't seen as good a fidelity version of this before and people talk about it being disappointing or competitive, but I'm not getting either.
Thanks for the comment Joanna. Two great players!
Yeah I’ve read a lot of idiotic comments about this video.
This is the first time I’ve ever seen the full video. Previously, I’ve seen just the part where Berlin is soloing and some trolls said dumb stuff like “jaco is past his prime here, he’s just playing behind Berlin who is clearly better at that point”. Such unbelievably asinine comments.
Well, the previous clips of this always seemed to present Jeff in a grander light. I never saw this clip with Jaco soloing like this. The other clips would make you think that Jeff was SSSSO much better technically and inferred this competition. However, as you can see here, that was clearly not the case. Also and at least n this video.., you can see the difference as it relates to presence.
@@skineyemin4276 This is a dozed Jaco on meds, practically brought on stage directly from the streets. Not even his bass. Check out Music Universe, a channel dedicated to rare clips of Jaco. Also, I recommend you to listen to Criteria Sessions, a compilation of sessions conducted in 1975 (before Zawinul talked him into having his first drink…).
Jeff Berlin is pretty fast, but he's not feeling it like Jaco. Great jam!
Two different talents! Thank you for watching, Ailish Beth!
@@patrickbuchmann-sdinganuff don't get me wrong. I love Jeff Berlin. He's a great player. I saw him in 79 with Bill Bruford and i was blown away. He's very technical though. I just prefer Jaco's playing and his tone.
@@ailishbethd4033 No problem, I love Jeff's work with Bruford. Jeff's chops are amazing and so are his sight reading skills. I saw him play with many guests at Musicians Institute where he'd sight read 6 pages charts (watching it from right behind him!) and it was mind-blowing! And Jaco, well, no need to discuss...top of the tops!
Agreed. Love Jeff but the melody seems to disappear a little when he's shredding
Only Jaco has groove here
One out of two is better than one out of three!
Berlin lo destrozo
Dos jugadores asombrosos!
ja ja ja... Ridículo....
@@Carehuea Tal cual, lo dejo en ridiculo
Not really.
There's no competition.
Berlin trying desperately to impose his stiff calculated "theory" hang ups on Jaco and failing miserably. 🤣 Jaco just takes off and plays his ass off brilliantly!
Still, a unique moment. Thanks for watching!
Berlin speaks to the fact that Jaco was far beyond him ... Jaco was a rare breed... Genius in the true sense of the word, as was Jamerson... Very few of those...
That does not diminish Berlin as an exceptional talent!
And, I guess you imply that your chops are above Berlin's...
Lets see your vid to compare!
Wow , how can tell if it's jaco or jeff. Answer, the sounds kinda of like a fart.....it's jaco. It's a great example of two bass guitar gods cutten heads but, it's musical.
It's a korn flakes fretless bass... Thank you for watching!
Мурку
Why not?
Jeff has a bad tone on the bass, all mid and high frequency .Jaco is fantastic on fretless bass, the best ...❤
It's probably because he wanted to make a tone difference between the too basses so it wouldn't sound "mumbly" together! Thanks for the comment and for watching!
Jeff is a great bass player, especially for his technique, but in this video the artistic difference between the two is evident. Jeff has technique, but his phrasing has no personality, it is anonymous. You recognize Jaco immediately, for the touch, the sound and the unique phrasing among electric bassists.
It's like everyone is sniffing their farts talking about how great they are.
Aren't they? Thank you for watching.
