Can't believe James managed to pull this off. Kirk just trying his best to encourage him and stay positive, while he can see his friend is in pain. Kirk is ever the unsung hero of this band.
If I could like this comment more than once I would.
damn straight
Yes man you are very right
You could see how reserved he is. It kills me. I'm so glad he went for help again. Dude is my idol still even at 30 lol. This band is everything to me
What James did?
2:30 yet another Kirk's joke that goes unlaughed. this man is a legend. imagine telling jokes nobody find funny for decades and keep em coming. hats off!
He is. But imagine this: Hearing the same sort of jokes for almost 30 years every single f-in day xD
Lmaooooo poor Kirk 😂😂😂😂😂😂
what does he say? I thought I heard rock it like Dokken, but I doubt he said that? :D
Rockin' like Tocchet. Referring to Rick Tocchet, a former NHL player from most notably, the Philadelphia Flyers.
@MrBrenman let me check...
Poor James, he looks like he’s really struggling, I can’t believe he was able to put on one of the best shows ever that night. My first night in rehab I laid in bed and listened to Outlaw torn all night, cried like a baby. Metallica has gotten me through some good times and some bad.
I want to believe Lars called outlaw torn so James could live in those lyrics a bit and sing to himself. Have that same shared experience the audience does hearing it as you.
Some layers of you think about that.
@@admiralthex for sure. I hope James is doing better.
I hear ya bro. Outlaw torn is a katharsis. I hope you're doing well now!
A few shots usually helps 😎
@@dowens3781 yeah ok d
7:34 You're a good motivator, Kirk.
2:27 Kirk: Rockin' like Dokken?
Gotta love Kirk's dad jokes
Kirk jokes are not to be confused with dad jokes...Kirk jokes have their own flare...or lack thereof..LOL
They always ignore his jokes lmfao, I remember there was one that was actually pretty funny he made when they played battery in the tuning room, he said something along the lines of "you think elon musk has heard this song before" and they ignored lmal
no one ever laughs at his jokes, it's so funny xD
@@malcolmkyeremeh5444 Do you think Elon Musk knows we have a song called "battery". Was what he said
Love Kirk but it's not like they're all that funny and I don't think he tries to be. lol
James: I‘m pretty good..
Lars: you fcking rocking it!
We love a supportive brother
2:27 ^_^
I love how Gregg is telling Lars to smile and try to cheer James up behind his back. That's not just a producer, that's a friend right there.

Krook 10:46 James pours a drink and immediately notices a camera behind him. Greg is watching the whole time and noticed something was up and then tells lars to smile and act normal to james
@@cm9342 thank you. So sad to see James like this and so glad he's better now

Andriy Vasylenko Agreed!
The struggle in James' face is so obvious. It's good to see him healthier and happier this year
to be fair, they were coming off a nearly 3 year tour cycle and James voice, although improving in aggression, was showing signs of fatigue already

How humble, even Metallica still gets nervous before a show. But they never disappoint

You just exploded my mind with this statement. Holy fuck it actually was :D
Damn
Metal Puppet what in the fuck happened in 2020. i swear the world had to have been sucked by a wormhole or something and were in a different dimension now.
It is and if you look at James now and how much better he looks you can see that one year can make a huge difference..so glad he is doing better.
Todd Roy facts. He was hanging on to get this done you could see the struggle.
7:00 Kirk sings "It´s a long way to the top" Lars immediately "Why isn´t the orchestra playing ACDC?"
Looool
Outlaw Torn is my favorite song. Period.
I know it's boring to play, but the song is so important.
To know the struggle James was having and to be able (for one night), push it aside and pull through this set/concert… it just shows how strong he really is. And he needs to know that he is. His friends can see his pain, love how they know how to treat James in his struggle. That’s love… his brothers for real.
What was wrong with James?

Love or hate Metallica you cannot deny that this is one of the hardest working bands on the planet. And they are still working hard after how many years??? Most bands would have hung it up a long time ago to relax in their mansions. These guys are still pushing and pushing til the day they just can't physically push anymore. And as a musician, to me that is inspiring as fuck.
Still get hate They are the only band for my ears that each album are never the same others it's same sound every album
10:47 to 11:17 how Greg is watching James doing something "not that right" (drinking or something) or being sad and wave to Lars to tell him to make James smile ? That's Epic I don't know of someone saw this ! This is priceless
that is Mate a root drink from Argentina and south america
That's yerba mate. Similar to a tea, it is taken in South America, it is planted in the north of Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. James's wife is Argentina, from the city of Rosario, birthplace, for example of Messi.

So awesome to watch. I got such a rush hearing Kirk speak in their huddle then watching them walk out into the hall just seconds before playing. Man it must be so crazy for them! Radness.
Lars worrying about everything before they went to the stage got me LOL specially when he said what if there's an earthquake!🤣😂

3:15 that intro riff to outlaw sounds so good, crazy how Metallica can make standard tuning sound so heavy in today’s world full of drop g and whatever else

Standard tuning, but down a half step. So Eb/D#.

Age is inevitable to us all, but it still does not stop the pain you feel when you see the people you adore looking old. I have grown up listening to this band and watching then live. Have grieved for members lost, have felt the pain of Jame's meltdown. I am now in my late fifties and I still love what these guys are doing.
Metallica is still so fucking cool after all these damn years.
I love near the beginning when Lars says “come on guys talk to me, anything” Kirk says Halo and Lars says right Outlaw Torn. 😂
I think he was really trying to reach James as a friend in that moment
Seeing the way James looked a year ago and how he looked on that Howard Stern thing you might think it's two different persons... So happy that James is doing better!

im so happy he made it through and got some help again he looked off, hes usually uplifting and happy around his bandmates but here he genuinely just doesnt seem like he wants to be there
I will say he looked pretty normal for the the first show out of the two, I kinda have this thought process of, if maybe they didn't play with the symphony for a second night, maybe he wouldn't have been the way he was, but either way he was battling his demons and other stuff that was going on in his life, who knows how bad he withdrawled but we in the metallica family are all so proud of him for getting help and battling and defeating his demons for good (hopefully) and very happy to see him back doing his thing in Metallica
It’s cause he knew he was going to rehab again in the next week, and that would be his last show for a while.
I think the really sucky part is the fact that I think the guys new something was wrong but didn’t know what exactly. He didn’t seem like himself as you said he’s normally goofing around a lot in the tuning room but he seemed over it. But yet when they walked out he slapped on a happy face fooling the audience into thinking he was okay. Either way he looks much happier and healthy now and that’s all that matters!

When you get sober off something like that, it is always tempting after, even nearly 20 years later. 20 years of sobriety, after nearly 20 years of serious addiction is very commendable.
