Underrated comment :D
bruh hahahahahaha
looked like he was doing his own personal haka.
Are we not gonna mention the fact that Kirk nailed the solo...
Good one. You already mensioned it
It’s kinda his job lol
Justin M. Woodward yeah Ik it is but sometimes he improvises them and sometimes he plays the solo but messes up. In this case he played the solo on the album and nailed it. ;)
Justin M. Woodward true but the Mcdonald cashier’s job is to hand over your order and how often do they screw up? These guys are amazing to be doing this especially at their ages! The precision and stamina needed for a full set must be immense. Enjoy pros being pros! Not everyone can do this
Dr. Loomis as I said in my previous comment... I’m not shocked that he can play the solo. It’s just that he doesn’t play the solo form the album all the time. He improvises a lot he’s even talked about it. And much like us he’s human so sometimes he makes mistakes wether he improvises or not. So the fact that he nailed the solo with no major screw ups was cool.
Was about to go to sleep but then I see Metallica
jokes on you, it's day in EU

At 5:02, the guy in the vest is Dave from the Jimmy Kimmel segment Metallica vs. the Superfan.
Dave was also 3 rows ahead of me at the Detroit 2017 show in the snake pit. His consolation prize on Jimmy Kimmel
I’ve seen him on a few other concert videos from the HW tour, can’t remember which ones tho
Really?, Amazing!
should've asked him if he got the guitar anyway.
Well spotted dude :)!
I always see this guy in all Metallica videos😂
I love Kirk's joy in playing - not just here, but in all the live shows - and all the ones I have been to, he is just always so happy! He just seems like one of those people that has life figured out.
3:55 That old lady headbanging on the left side... yeaaaah! 😂😂🤘
@ThatsRaidillonActually that was funny hehe^^
EPIC LOL Rock n Roll!
🗿🤟
This is the band that put me in to metal
xD same here
Metallica is what's known as a gateway drug. You think that you can get by with just a little Metallica every now and then. And...the YT feed gives you Maiden, The Hu, Bloodywood...all of which you find that you REALLY like . Then...somehow Nightwish is there and you are gasping in a ditch, struggling to find your teeth, your change, and oh, there's your knickers over a tree branch. A runaway freight train with the words Ever Dream on the side has just SLAMMED into you, and nothing will ever be the same again. Total, catastrophic, immediate addiction. All because I thought it would be OK to have a little Metallica. Guys, aren't you ashamed of yourselves? ;)
Me too
So, you're like Han Solo?
@@SandraNelson063 you couldnt be anymore correct i started with metallica and will forever love these guys, went from metallica to now the likes of Fear Factory lmao
How can James' vocals be better than ever? What amazing energy in this performance!
Six months without a drop of alcohol or constant touring allowed his vocal cords to recover so well that the voice re-recordings sound WAAAAY better than they could've been otherwise. That and the fact that they were all super amped-up for these particular shows gave them a special kind of energy for the live performances
Rafael Calderon Voice re-recordings? Did he record it all again? I know this was recorded in early September, a couple of weeks before he checked into rehab, so this wouldn‘t be too surprising ..
I went to the premier of this in theater... There is some definite post production magic happening here.
Don't get me wrong... There were some definite triumphs vocals, but definitely not this smooth... Also he entered rehab right after this hit theatre.
@Kuddl Muddl “live” albums more often than not contain lots of re-recorded sections because of many different reasons like missed notes, excessive ambient noise bleed, room for overall performance improvement and the like. The sound quality in the videos they’ve uploaded so far (this one, Nothing and AWMH) sounds way better than the original mix they showed in movie theatres back in September, that, the fact that they pushed back the release date six months (it was originally planned for a February release) and the band’s statements themselves that they were in the process of re recording various parts sometime ago makes me think that they indeed re recorded much of the vocal line
@@wheredidkrisko. I thought it was definitely good when I saw it in the movie theatre too but the sound quality is a lot better this time around
one thing i could see in this video specifically is the symphony members really enjoying their own concert when they're waiting their time to play. They seem to have fun watching James and Rob playin as in 3:25, 3:35 and 3:55. this is sooo cool!!!
When James jam along with the harp player. Priceless reaction 3:35
I saw somewhere in an interview that he was on harp at the first one too, and one of the only legitimate 'tallica fans at the time.
Fun fact in the original Metallica in San Francisco Symphony only one of the people in the symphony actually listening to Metallica and it was the harp player He even used a metallic a pic when he played the instrument
Just imagine telling 1989 James what a Metallica concert will look like 30 years in the future
31 not 30
Wahib Abada wrong it was filmed in 2019
more like 10 because the first S&M was only 10 years later
Well, in 1991 they were working with Michael Kamen on the black album. Cliff has already written or inspired several songs with serious classical influence. Everyone seems to forget that Metallica was called a sellout by some for “Fade to Black” as far back as 1984. They do what they want. And the narratives about the black album or their alleged narrow interests have never been true.
right? I get what you mean. I bet they never imagined this ever being possible or within their realm of interest.

This commment should be on every Metallica video 😂
Thank you
even when they’re older, metallica can still kick ass on stage
3:34 so cool to see James interaction with the orchestra member
Imagine being in that orchestra and you get invited to play with Metallica
When recording S&M 1, only one member of the orchestra knew Metallica
@@nakulsprakash1640 Now I'm sure everyone knows who they are.
It’s kinda sad rlly that they don’t know they’re just like get this over with. shame 😞
1 member of the original S and M symphony was a Metallica fan lol.
It'd be interesting to see an interview with them to see what their reaction was to this and the previous experience.
The outlaw torn, and Memory Remains 🤘🔥🍻🤘🔥
best outlaw torn performance hands down
Also when the people in the symphony have a smile on there face playing you know some shit is going down.
My favourite moment from this concert - James singing - Moth into the flame!!!!! BURN!!!!!

HELLO FROM UA! Metamily
James is killing it. He's singing with such an enthusiasm and energy!
I've watched this band since 1983. Seen them at least at least 50 times. This band has NEVER ever disappointed me when I went to see them NEVER!!!!!!!!!🤘🤘🤘🤘☝👏👍🎸🎙🎶
3:35 So cool to see the same guy at the harp since 1999! I think is the same!
Yes bro same guy s&m 1
Too strong Metallica Forever !!
No matter what people say, no matter how much people criticize them , they were, they still and will always be the BEST HEAVY METAL BAND IN THE WORLD
at this age still playing arenas and pulling off concerts like this , oh METALLICA I FUCKING LOVE YOU.
You can tell at 5:05 the old lady cellist is enjoying herself!
Man, watching a Metallica video like this is never disappointing. The sound is amazing, as always.
Can't wait till the DVD and album comes out
You can order now.
I'm waiting for it to hit shelves I dont like ordering

better on blue ray ;)
4:26 PERFECT DOUBLE BASS!! Well done my bud' Lars
That's something I was saying to myself. Lars seemed to be unusually clean in this song.
@@etherrunner6635 Probably sound engineering had a lot of work to fix Lars's drum tracks to seem more "clean", as you said.
@@lorenzobarichello5180 yeah, probably. But atleast it sounds good
@@etherrunner6635 That's all that matters. But by the way, in my opinion, Lars played the whole set well

Ok, Gojira just unleashed a brand new song an hour ago and now Metallica unleashes a new track from S&M2, this morning has been so fucking amazing
New mastodon too
Gonna be honest, this has to be the best thing Metallica has recorded in a VERY long time
Well, that's not saying much bc this is dogshit
@@chriscrook7865 how so? The performance by Metallica sounds quite good to me
@Chris Crook ugh. Of course there has to be someone to hate on Metallica. Sounded amazing to me.
That's actually not a good thing to say lmao
An evening full of music - and in the end, I watch this video thinking "oh wait, this is how it's supposed to sound, to be, to feel". You guys make a big difference in the ways I experience music. It's a better life with you in it .
Only the Gods of Heavy metal can incorporate a concert with a beautiful symphony like San Francisco symphony. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
It's a good day when both Gojira and Metallica post new stuff
THE BEST BAND OF THE UNIVERSE!
I wish I was between audience! Absolutely astonishing performance...
Kirk's smile makes me smile even more and feel better
This was the first Metallica song I listened to, and it definitely did not disappoint
I love their S&M songs. Such an amazing mix of hard rock and classical.
5:07 that lady and that guy are having a blast, look at the big smile on that old lady's face and how the dude headbangs
You know Metallica have risen over just heavy metal nah nah I wd call this Universe Music for the entire universe to enjoy God bless us all
Lets be honest. This is one of their better songs they’ve done in recent years and woulda been so sick on Justice. Underrated imo.
Thanks to the mighty Metallica for giving us so many free content to enjoy! Awesome video from an amazing, epic concert. Thank you guys, so proud to be one of Metallica family
I don't understand how people DON'T like this album
It's everything fans wanted, Isn't It?
I feel like James vocals are even better in his older age. Or is that just me?
Its the alcohol
They Rerecorded a portion of the vocals.
Working with a vocal coach helps
Totalmente de acuerdo
In S&m 1 I think his vocals was better and powerful
When the notification popped on my screen, I came here faster than James' right hand on Spit Out the Bone
Lol
I'm afraid that's not physically possible...
Best fucking comment ever 😂
Or his right hand on Hardwired... amazing too 😊
Music from the Gods played by the Gods!
2:58 For some reason whenever I see a guitarist and a bassist or 2nd guitarist play off of each other in a sort of beautiful standoff. I always feel like its the most beautiful, expressive, and impressive shit you can do with another human.
i absolutely love that the symphony is having so much fun that they’re smiling when playing. like. i’ve played in several symphonies... and you can tell when someone is having a ton of fun doing what they love. 💪🔥
I’m so excited for the full album!

Hello!)
Holy shit... this kicks ass. The symphony hits hard here. The emphasis they place on the opening notes gives the song a whole new power.
Love Metallica. First saw them 1996 I'm 39 now. Best band in the world.
Love seeing the older people in the orchestra just jamming out also!
We are waiting for The outlaaaaaww toorrrnn!!
This Is SYMPHONIC METAL 🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘
Wow!!! This is spectacular!! James and Kirk and Lars and Rob with the symphony!! All jammin together!!! Love S&M Metallica style!!! Woohoo!!! Beautiful!!
The lady smiling at 5:07 exudes pure joy, and I love it!
Yeah 🙌🏼❤️
I've had the privilege as a teen to see in 97 banned in Philly concert, right at the front of the stage. Then 20 years later got to see you at Lincoln financial. You will always be my favorite band! 🤟
Man, I'm feeling old. Saw these guys back in '05 and it hit me like a ton of bricks that was 15 years ago. Still getting it though. Thanks for the years of music!
James guitar is sic. Watching the orchestra members enjoying the hell out of the experience and watching Metallica play is amazing. This is the most metal/R&R thing they can do. It is absolutely beautiful
The main riff of this song is quite similar to wherever I may roam. I always have a hard time choosing between these two songs
Wherever my moth roam into flame.
@@ther701 Wherever flame may the Moth roam
Both are really well done in the S&M shows
Nigel MT Productions F
They rip-off their own riffs all the time
To me, this version IS the definitive version. Them string section are front and center in this song.
Lars looks like about the luckiest person alive here. Completely surrounded on all sides by who and what he loves. Good on him.
That was really amazing on 100 levels.
Music evolution blending metal with symphony right in front of your eyes.
I can’t believe how far they’ve gone.
Inspirational to the max
I love it at 3:00 when converge together. I love when bandmates do this, it's cheesy but cool.
I'm 9 years old and I love this stuf. And I know thar songs really good.
THIS concert is one of the Earth shattering ones. I'm old, and I have been lucky enough to see some of my fave performers in live shows. Get the DVD of this and enjoy it. You will, of course, be measuring every other show you see against it. Be kind. I think only Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band will be able to match it. Very FEW groups or single performers will ever have the skill or experience to reach THIS level of profound mastery of their talents. I am SO grateful that they decided to do this NOW, while they STILL have all their physical stamina. Lars can't keep up this level of performance for much longer, neither can the others. Drumming takes a LOT out of a body, and the joints just can't do it any more. In an interview, Kirk has said that because of all the guitar playing he has done, his shoulders, back and arms have pain from the constant strain of playing.
Now, go check out The Hu, Bloodywood, Maiden and my particular favorite, Nightwish. Metallica just opens the door to so many other bands and genres. Enjoy the journey!
Sandra Nelson I am old , too! And I agree with you. I have been lucky too, to see Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Metallica of course, and a few other of the ‘’old’’ heavy metal bands. Some day they will not play anymore, but their music will continue. It has been a hell of a ride all those years!
Stay in school, kid. Your spelling and grammar are atrocious.
Maximus Max And you should grow up!
Your parents raised you right, little dude
I was but a wee lad when S&M came out... and it was my introduction into metal. Life‘s been a wild ride since.
Favorite song on the album and it is awesome with the symphony!!
Never got to see it in cinemas... Damn I can't wait
James looks like the lion from the wizard of oz. Lol. Metallica still kicking ass after all these decades. 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Metallica was one of my first cassette tapes. Still love these guys to this day! They never disappoint. I’m addicted to the GOATS! 🔥
Can’t wait for this to release and relive this night. Most epic concert I’ve ever been to.
For people worrying about the orchestra being too quiet, you have to consider that this is a UA-cam video so heavily compressed and reduced in quality compared to what a BluRay or CD can offer! I've seen the case numerous time where the sound on a live video is pretty disappointing on UA-cam but sounds awesome on a BluRay. Also I've seen S&M2 in theater and it was absolutely perfect, I'd consider myself an audiophile, even being annoying with my friends about this kind of details :p and I loved the mixing there.
But what scares me is they announced that they remastered the concert for the BluRay/CD release... that's a point of worry.
I'm not an audiophile, but in the theater you don't listen in stereo, you have a bunch of speakers. It's different, right? And I agree, it was fantastic! Probably everyone will hear this in 5.1, which is much better, you will hear more instruments. Now, what you're saying may be true, but I don't even know how much it will differ from the stereo mix of the blu-ray or cd.
For example, when Alter Bridge posted, here, previews of their concert with the orchestra, everyone said the same thing as you. However, on cd/dvd/blu-ray, the orchestra remained the same as in the previews, buried in the mix, much worse than this.
They remastered the original concert for dvd and cd release as well I wouldn’t worry
You define yourself an audiophile and you also think thst the work they did for the "theater version" was good?
Are you drunk?
I saw S&M2 and the first part was so badly mixed and fucked up within levels I was tempted to ask for a refund.
The theater show was annoying for the following reasons:
1- Lars fills are obscene and the drums sound, on the kicks especially, is lifeless
2- The orchestrations on the new pieces are quite bland while on the others they have recycled the work from the original S&M
3- Hetfield vocals are clearly altered and they sound pitch corrected
4- The mix is subpar both on levels and EQ, that's why the orchestra can't cut thru
5- The first few songs are mixed so badly that it is very difficult to understand what is happening in the background
@@francescopanciroli1382 1. Sound, like any art form, is still highly subjective, I thought it was a great mixing, but it's totally fine if other people who know about sound engineering think the opposite.
2. Did you thought about maybe the theater you went to was the problem? I mean depending on the country you live in, theater can hugely vary in acoustic and such, as they're often configured for big block busters rather than concert screening. Not saying it was the problem, but its 100% sure that we hadn't the exact same sonical experience for this reason.
3. Well there's no 3, I agree that the mixing was a bit mushy at the start of the show for some reason, and obviously Lars's voice was pitch corrected, as 99.99% of live blu-rays are nowadays. Appart from that, it thought it was great. If you think it wasn't, fair enough!
A melhor Banda de todos os tempos Metallica 🎉❤️💃🎊🎶
Carl!!! Love that guitar!
God, James is so on point here. So bloody good. Saw this in theaters in Halifax, NS. It was EPIC!
Top demais ficou muito legal a música!! 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
James looks so old, but his vocals are getting better and better.
also: was Kirk stepping on a trumpet or what? xD 0:39
It's just the haircut that makes him look old :D
Dude seriously?? I thought all hell broke loose and Lars was singing....whoa! Ouch
James is almost 60 and is a life-long drunk. Whaddaya expect him to look like?!
Maximus Max wow I had no idea he looked so bad
@@maximusmax4557 Yeah but still, just look at him at around 2018, or 3 years ago. The haircut, the moustache, and the buttoned shirt which is tucked in, make him look 70.

Flipping INCREDIBLE
Making great music like always. The audio mix is perfect
The arrangement for this song isn't my favorite, it sounds the most to a regular live performance. Although the band plays it really tight.
Yeah I was thinking the same, I miss the depth that was present on s&m1
Agreed. It's not that orchestra is too quiet in the mix, it's missing some good arrangements/melodies. This sounded like they are just playing along with the band.
totally, dont know why... moth into flame is such a weird choice to play along with the orchestra
You are right. Just wait for the whole blu ray it's an epic master piece saw it in cinema. They are just not gonna upload those special moments ofcourse that would take away all the excitement for buying it couse you've already seen the highlights then.
When the song is weak like that you can't expect much from orchestra.
The orchestra is very quiet here. It's weird to see their bows move at certain times and not hear it.
Absolutely, they really butchered the mixing. I have been hyped for almost a year now after seein it in cinema thrice and now I am getting more and more disappoiinted...
If it's like the S&M DVD, you'll able to turn up the orchestra track yourself. Also I'm sure there will be fan mixes with more orchestra audible.
@@LoganCovers91 Oh I didnt know that about the DVD! I only had the CD for S&M but I preordered this time, so that's good.
May b that's the reason i didn't get that feel this time. Only highs in the orchestra that too the loud ones are being heard. Metallica is awesome and Metal af but the orchestra here didn't seem to fit in except where the song goes Moth Into the Flame
I can hear them. I can even hear the inhale of the winds.
Giving this song the S&M treatment was itself worth revisiting the idea. The orchestra adds such a cool dimension.
All around kickass concert, man.
