- I was able to do a full ASMR restoration of this vintage 50 years old watch and decided to make a ASMR video with captions out of it since i am not good with talking on videos :-) I bought this watch from Ebay and tried to find spare parts for it online. the setting lever spring was brocken and thats why you could not turn or pull out the crown to adjust the time. also on timegrapher i was not getting any rate and the amplitude was very low due to mainspring which was coned and also shorter than original. so I decided to do a full restoration giving the movement a good clean lubricating the jewels and changing the mainspring and the watch came back to life. I was able to get a rate of -2 to -4 seconds per day and an astonishing amplitude of more than 200 degrees. which is awesome for a 50 years old watch.
Here is some history about the Glashütte movement:
A number of different factory versions of the calibre 60 are known. In early works from the first half of the 1950s, the minting of the caliber and Work number and the GUB logo only on the gear bridge. From this time, silver-plated works can also be found to a small extent. For later, usually only nickel-plated works, the GUB logo is embossed on the barrel bridge, while caliber and Work number was also embossed on the gear bridge. In very small quantities, early works were also decorated with a strip cut. The installation of shock protection was only started in 1954 with the Inca-bloc shock protection imported from Switzerland. At the same time, the angled rear pointer was used. Since there was no own shock protection manufactured in the GDR until 1961 and the Inca-bloc shock protection for foreign exchange had to be introduced, it was mainly used in the more modern or higher-quality calibers 60.1, 60.2 and 60.3 inserted.

Incredible attention to details. So nice to see how an old broken watch comes alive again! Well done. 👍🏽
Thanks 😊
Wow!! Excellent and educational video! And, love your high quality watch tools and organization. Looking forward to more videos, and thank you for taking the time to make great watch repair content.
Was für eine wunderschöne Uhr ! Sehr gute Arbeit! Danke.
#75 thumbs uP I noticed when you were putting in the train of wheels, there were many fibers on the main plate. I was surprised to see them after the cleaning. Those risk getting into the movement. Of course, under the macro lens they are easy to see. I also was aghast to see you remove the hands without any dial protection.
Hi Steve
You are correct. Fibers are enemies for the watch and very difficult avoiding them. I did not protect the dial because it had so many cracks and scratches from before so I took the risk. Thanks 🙂
Also I love these videos where there's no man talking upon these tingly sounds that make the video sooo relaxing
Extremely impressive!
Thank you
Love ASMR restorations. Great video. Keep them coming.
Thank you. 🙏 Will give my best :)
Im glad that watch movement survived. Its a good looking watch.
Yes they are good looking and robust 🙂
A dream of a watch! Gorgeous!
Thank you
Great job vintage watches are amazing have several Zenith‘s from the 50 and 60‘s chronometer grades 40T and 133.8 movements love to see a Zenith sometime !
Beautiful
Thank you
Subscribed! My type of watchmaking!
Thank you. Will make more. Doing it for you guys. Hopefully everyone likes them. 🙂
Typically the pallet fork jewel bearings are not oiled - just FYI. I also echo the concern about not aligning the hour hand. You can see quite plainly that when the minute hand strikes the hour, the hour hand is noticeably behind the hour mark.
Don't want to sound too critical here, any attempt at restoring a watch is well worth it and you are on the right path.
Good point Slim about the hands. Didn’t know about pallet fork jewel. Thank you!
Good job remember love this caliber.
Thank you. Yes I also think it’s a very well made watch for it’s time.
Great work👍
Thank you 🙏
Many Thanks Sir
Very nice work. Subscribed.
Thank you Dave 🙏
Nice 👌🏻
Nice video. Where and how did you get the replacement part?
Фантастика!!!
Thank you!
Great video! Thank you so much for sharing. Where do you get the spare parts for GUB Watches?
Easiest place would be eBay
Sir how to enhance power reserve in old watches by maintaining original main spring
Hi. That was great - thanks. I'm fascinated by watch restoration and have now watched many (many) videos of experts like you work your magic. You mentioned in the intro that you wouldn't mind a few questions. Could I ask a couple as I'm considering taking the plunge and starting this as a hobby:
- I imagine disassembling the watch is the easier part. How do you keep track of where everything goes / which screws to use on reassembly?
- how do you source spares for such old watches and end up getting the correct part?
- Is there a basic set of tools as a kit that you can purchase to get you going or did you buy everything individually. If individually, is there a list of what a budding amateur would need to get started.
I hope that isn't too many questions! And I look forward to the next video.
Hi Phil,
The best for remembering what goes where is to take pictures or video.
Also for some movements you might find data sheets by searching on google.
Also when you have done 10-15 movements then you get a feeling of the screws. For example: the barrel bridge and train of wheels bridge have exactly same screws.
This gets much harder when the movement gets more complicated and has 10x more screws than usual.
But then you could keep the screws next to corresponding parts in a dust tray while you are disassembling it.
I bought my stuff individually. But for Start and practicing you don’t need much. Just tweezers and screwdrivers, and movement holder and then you just keep buying a bit more like mainspring winder, etc.
Yes the harder part specially for more complicated movements are putting it back together and not loosing and breaking parts.
For Spare parts the best address would be eBay and google but this is a luck task.
Thanks for watching. Would appreciate if you could subscribe as well.
Thanks
@@wristwatchobsession5585 Thanks so much for the detailed response. That's very much appreciated. I've liked and subscribed - and look forward to the next one.
Wow great restoration! I wish I could start doing the same. Where do you buy replacement pieces? Or how can you get them? I want to restore an Omega Teddington from 1952 which minute's hand is missing as well as the glass
From different sites, Google and also eBay. You can also look at cousins site for many parts.
@@wristwatchobsession5585 thank you so much!!!
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Very nice. Great methodical restoration. It was so therapeutic to watch. Thank you. Is this piece for sale?...
Thank you Kevin for watching!
No, most probably I will keep it because it is the watch that I did my first video on YouTub 🙂
thanks again
Very nice restoration video and also very nice music in end, can you please tell me from where you got this music video or what's the name of that video ?
Thank you Samad!
The song is called „Voices“. It’s a mp3 file not a video.
Thanks again
i found that instead of using water to clean parts use white vinager it gets rid of rust and i have a channel about watches.
Don’t know I never tried it!
i work on watches as well i am restoring a cocktail watch at the moment.
Around 13:07 there seems to be rust forming on the ratchet wheel, click, and winding wheel.
Hi BlueCube,
Thanks for watching so carefully.
Yes it might be a bit of rust.
Thanks
Not only there also inside screws slots and on some other places as well. It should be cleaned manually and carefully.
I'm puzzled that you did not cared to align the hours and minutes hands. You just pressed them into place on the position they felled in...
Hi Pedro
I didn’t mind it, because the watch didn’t have a calendar. I would have align them on 12 after changing date, if it had a calendar . 🙂
P.s. I just found out regardless if the watch has a date function or not, I should have aligned the hands on any number.
Thanks
Where were you able to find that new setting lever spring?
EBay
A watch I would suggest you getting and fixing would be a hamilton 987.
I love Hamilton watches.
Will look into it. Thanks
The error is almost like a chronometer
would you be able to do a video on a hamilton 987 f?
Hi Colton,
Unfortunately I don’t have the watch!
Thanks for subscribing
what is the next watch you are working on next?
A Japanese watch
Hi Colton,
I just uploaded my next video ua-cam.com/video/gf90OljXeY0/v-deo.html
Hope you like it. As mentioned before a Japanese watch “Citizen” Please comment if you liked it or not!
Thanks
when did you start working on watches?
Doing this couple of years now
Awesome work. Out of curiosity, do you have a white beard?
Thank you J
No I don’t have a white beard. You can see me on my Instagram page. 🙂
how much did you pay for this watch if you dont mind me asking?
I think 60-70 euros. But usually is a bit more around 150 to 200 euros.
I got it cheaper because it wasn’t working.
what would you want for it ?
I will think about it and let you know. But I might also keep it. But will let you know.
what kind of japanese watch?
I can’t tell now. You will see soon 🙂
The hour hand is not in the correct position, my friend...
Thank you for pointing it out.
I learned it from other comments and did it correctly on my next video ua-cam.com/video/gf90OljXeY0/v-deo.html
Please have a look. Thanks again
Please DO NOT use "auto-focus" on your videos. The subject (the movement) keeps going in and out of focus. Backs of your hands look great..... Makes the video unwatchable. Put a plastic bag over the dial before using the lifting levers to protect the dial. WEAR FINGER COTS. To protect the movement plates from the oils in your finger prints.
beautiful work, you followed me on Instagram, I have to thank you for that. I'm looking forward to this channel, posting regularly will bring you more success!
OMG and you play beautiful violin 🎻 will try to upload my next video in couple of days. Thanks
