VINTAGE: German Elegance || 1970s GUB Glashütte

In this video we take a look at a 1970s vintage watch from East German watch company GUB Glashütte, the predecessor of Glashütte Original (also Lange). This is a reference with the Caliber 74 Spezimatic automatic movement. There are a number of GUB references available second hand priced generally between $200-$800. Thanks so much for posting this video, well done. 30 years ago I bought a watch at a garage sale for ten dollars and never really looked into it until just this year. Turns out it is a 1964 GUB Glashütte Kaliber 68.4 Automat. Bit of a rara avis as it turns out.

Wow, I had previously removed the back and the rubber ring crumbled, oh well, an easy replacement. The automat pendulum was moving freely as per design. I thought that some previous owner had possibly over-wound this watch and broke the mainspring or something as I noticed that there was no rotational pressure being put to the escapement. I removed the gear on the mainspring and the small support bridge over it where the pawl resides. I was able to extricate the mainspring assembly gear only to see that a very small barrel screw must have liberated itself years ago from it's threadwell right by the winding/setting stem on the edge of the movement and it jammed the mainspring gear. I can see where it came from but have no idea what it's purpose is. Re-assembled and away she went! I have not put the movement back into the case yet. I can send you a photo of that teeny barrel screw if it would help you to know what I found. @@watch_please

i love the companies that supplied our reich. i have an 1815 but its hard to keep adding watches like that but i want some sport GUB.
