- Marshall is given a very nice gift from a 10-year-old viewer of the channel, a Doxa dress watch from the 1950s! Alexa watches the videos here on the channel and thought I would like the dial of the watch, so she and her dad sent it to me. Even though they said Marshall could keep it, he has other plans for the watch :)

Hey All, I hope you enjoy the video! I got an update from Alexa and her father and they got the watch back and she loves it! As a reminder, I do not solicit through youtube comments, so if anyone contacts you via the comments here it's not coming from me, so please disregard and report! Thanks! Marshall
What is your contact information?
Great to hear! I'm wondering if maybe you'd be willing to do a service video on your dorblüth & Sohn please?
Hi Marshall! What’s the best way to contact you?
Geez, Marshal. Where else are we going to see the service on our own personal piece being performed so correctly.
Hi Marshall, love your channel. Your channel made get interested in vintage watches and watch repair. I find myself in a very stressing situation now. I recently acquired a Seiko bellmatic. I noticed the dial had some dust on it, so I wanted to clean it up. I was having difficulties removing the alarm button and thought that maybe the rotor was in the way of a lever. However, when I tries to remove it, I instead removed the screws of alarm plate and bump the wheels out of place. I believe fixing it goes far beyond my ability. I was wondering if you would be interested on it. I have asked watch repair places and they are not interested in working on it since it's a vintage watch.
You get many comments on the 'watchmaking', but few seem to appreciate the camera work that goes into these videos! The angles you use, the close ups allowing us to witness in real time what you are doing, the narrative, the end edit, often using 'before' and 'after' shots after getting a replacement part in an instant - sheer genius, thank you Marshall...
Here,here.
This right here. This is absolutely one of the best produced channels on UA-cam.
Very true!
I completely agree. I’ve tried to branch out and watch others. This channel is the first I ever watched. I guess I’m spoiled now.
Agreed. It's amazing how well he blends live and future shots and keeps the naration as if it's live all the time. Such q cool channel.
This young viewer is going to treasure this watch forever! She not only gets a fantastic time piece but also a video she can watch and show her friends. How cool is that?!
It's not all Gimme', gimme', gimme' in this world -- that would be a poor lesson to teach this child.
Giving it back to the family [and having this video] is a better lesson.
I think that was his intention.
[["Gimme', gimme', gimme'" = Give me, give me, give me -- Take, take, take, in other words.
That's a poor lesson to teach a child.
Ciao ]]
Brian Savage, no compassion there in other words.
That's a poor lesson to teach a child.
Cheers and Ciao
Perhaps this is this world now [take, take, take.. give me, give me, give me -- and step on your neighbor and everybody and everyone]
*SHAME*
Brian Savage, it just occurred to me,
I hate being the voice of reason.
[You had 50 likes before I even started -- you'd probably have a hundred in two hours if I didn't say anything]
Some folks don't think.
Do you think that child understands?
Those are ill-gotten gains.
Some people just don't think lol.
Cheers [
Having the "video" is enough.
What's a child going to do with an old watch.?
Give it back to the family [and return the favor -- "Pass it forward" in other words ]
Hate being the "voice of reason" though lol.
You are the “Bob Ross” of watch repair! You have a gift. It is quite soothing. Thank you!
"...and there we broke the irreplaceable hair-spring on this antique movement, a happy accident indeed. It will just become a part of this watch's unique characteristic. I shall now clean the brittle dial up a bit, and all I do is take it to the edge of the table and just beat the devil out of it. Makes go off all your frustrations in life..."
@@raven_of_zoso455 😂😂😂 It needs a polish with some Tyyyytanium whhyyyte.
welli would like a "repair" of that on my dial.
Also repair are much more complex than simple clean and assembly.
@@jamesrobert4106 noooooo dont paint the watch 😂
I'm 16 and have recently started getting into watches and watchmaking. UA-camrs like you truly help the process and open the door for this complicated world. I appreciate what you do, thank you Marshall!
You should not watch these videos as educational. He has terrible habits and sometimes just straight mistakes that would never pass quality control at either a basic watchmaking school or service center. Hobbyists are just that. They do it for fun, but its not of any quality.
@@antonsugar2535 Really? He seems to be a professional, I mean he has all the tools, boxes, cleaners, handles the watches with care etc. What is he actually doing wrong?
@@antonsugar2535 Ahhhh yes, i guess you're a qualified watchmaker?
Keep it up Anthony!
@@antonsugar2535 results are results! But hey, if you can show us how it's done, we're all eyes!
Marshall, you seem to be underestimating your channel. My daughter and I watch it regularly and are always very excited when a new movie comes out. She is 7 years old. And today she was even more happy when she found out that there is a similar girl out there who watches your channel with her dad. Thank you very much and best regards.
What a wonderful rescue. And returning it to a young follower a lovely gesture. She will undoubtedly cherish it. Thanks for sharing.
I just wanted to say thank you for your videos. It’s not that I’m particularly into watches or restoring them, but your videos are really calming to me and I love watching them
Are you a vintage watch collector?
I was waiting for you to say that you would send it back to her. She will forever treasure this gift. You will give her a lifetime memory to cherish and share with her father. Keep up the great work.
Out of all the watches you come across, what is your daily wear? I still rock my great great grandfather's 1917-18 rolex. He lived to 95 and gave it to me when I turned 8. I know I shouldn't daily it but all I have to do is look at my wrist to know the time accurately and remember what he went through to be able to even give it to me, he was an incredible man and I'm blessed to have a constant reminder of what he endured in ww1. Keep keeping the past alive for more generations!
Pulp Fiction 😀
I would love to see this watch. That is a extremely early Rolex
You should daily a Rolex! That's what Rolex was designed for, to be robust, tough, durable yet elegant!
And it being a very early Rolex, it should be used daily... that also ensures it works as built.
That’s quality. Lends credibility to the saying the really don’t build them like they used to
You have a real knack for this. I stumbled on to your channel, and it was my introduction to watchmaking.
The way that every single one of your videos tells a little story about the watch and your process brings life to these little mechanical wonders I am now obsessed with.
Thank you for these, Marshall
every video Marshall puts out i thank the you tube algorithm for putting this as a "you might also like"
I mean this as the highest compliment. You're the Bob Ross of watch restoration and repair. So calm and peaceful and enjoyable content. I love watching your videos Sir.
Kind of you to send it back. Appreciating those that appreciate you. Good job mate 👍
I love the fact you often start replacing a screw by going in the 'wrong' direction initially to get the thread to align correctly. Shows great mechanical 'sympathy' and aligns with your other mechanical history. I was hoping you would send it back and hope the young recipient of it appreciates it and bookmarks this video. Always a pleasure to watch. It is unusual today that anyone will watch a 46-60 minute video but I find these mesmerising. Well done.
I learned to do that when replacing spark plugs on a car. If you cross thread them it's much harder to fix. So just turn it in reverse a bit til you feel it slot up. Then you're good. And with those tiny screws I can't imagine cross threading one. I still don't know how he knows where each go. They are so similar to me. Beautiful watch when it was done. Yes, his video may be 50 mins or so but enjoyable to watch and his voice is soothing.
We use this method in hanging TVs when we’re using snaptoggle drywall anchors, because if you misthread it it will break the apparatus off in the wall and will waste you several minutes cause then you have to take the whole bracket down and redo them… it was really cool to see him do it and kind of catch that, cause I used to be the least mechanically inclined person in the world before I started doing home theater install work and learned a ton of stuff and interesting to see other pros use some tricks of the trades.
I noticed that too; that's something I have always done when putting anything threaded back in.
Funny how we're never taught that but it's so intuitive to back the screw up until you feel it "click", then change direction.
Hi Marshall ! I am 24 and looking your channel from France since some months now. I am always impressed by your craftmanship and your ability to explain complex things of watchmaking in a really understandable way ! :)
I am enjoying every of your videos ! This channel is from far one of the best channel on UA-cam in my opinion. This kind of content is the best way for young viewers to became interested by this hobby ^^
Greetings from Paris 🇫🇷
I believe I've finally figured out what makes your videos so alluring. The fact that you have the ability to show your audience a process that is very tedious and frustrating to many, all the while showing us how to handle each unique situation with the patience and grace that such situations require. It's a simple recipe that you have nailed! Not to mention your obvious knowledge and skills with your cameras and editing, to which I have no idea.
Well said!
What a transformation! It is a privilege to see such a craftsman at work.
It's almost therapeutic to watch these videos. When I frustrated or depressed I just play one of these and just relax. Thank you for your content, it's really great. Ane it's cool that even such a young viewers is also enjoying these.
I can listen to you all day. Your camera work is underrated.
You are one of the few people that can resonate the true positivity through video.
Thank you so much!!!
What a nice restoration Marshall! Excellent band choice, IMO. And so nice of you to send back to Alexa...
I think you nailed it when you were talking about watching shows that you learn from. That's what so interesting. Whether it be watchmaking, engine rebuilding, steel making or how to bake a cake. Watching someone who's mastered their art and craft is very alluring.
YT served me someone making a custom classic PlayStation logo rug today. Favorite shows growing up were Good Eats, Unwrapped and How it's Made. Really shows now that I'm a 40yo Product Modeler/Production Designer that loves food.
So glad to have other younger viewers genuinely interested in the hobby!!!
marshall i adore your channel, your voice, your attention to detail, the obvious passion you have for the hobby and willingness to pass some of that love along to the world and the effort you put in to these videos. thanks so much for giving us all this gift of regular content to watch.
p.s. youre an excellent mtg announcer too ;)
I never put it together that they're the same person haha. Putting two of my favorite things together, cardboard and watches.
Love your restoration of ths vintage Doxa..and that Alexa is on board with this watch..and it's restoration. YOu did a great job on restoring that piece back to functionality...so it can be worn and appreciated within the family.. Excellent..!!
Marshall is the epitome of fine human character and much like a well constructed classic watch, he's bright, eloquent and highly reliable. I thought your idea to return the watch to your young viewer was very thoughtful. She will undoughtedly be a lifelong fan. Well done, Sir!
Love that you are sending the watch back. If you have any extra tools you don't use, maybe send a some sort of starter watch working set.
I am always just facinated watching you work on these things. A 40 min vid is nothing, and seems to fly right by.
How cool for Alexa to be able to see something she now has, in this video format. To see how it all was broken down, cleaned up and put back together.
It's great to see you work on a gifted non working watch and send it back to the sender in perfect working condition. My hat's off to you Sir.
Such a cool revival! I hope Alexa appreciates such a special gift; so good to hear of young blood taking an interest in classic crafts.
Keep well :-)
Wow, it really doesn't get any better than that!
Great back story, great video and a really great outcome. What a gorgeous watch!
I am a huge fan of your channel. I don't understand how you remember all the things to put back together. Insane.
By far the most professional channel. And when it comes to the topic of the channel, when it comes to video quality and when it comes to presentation. My respect.
Marshal , I really like that you made that watch absolutely beautiful and sent it back to them . Your a good man . If only everyone in the world had the compassion and all around attention to detail that you have . The world would be a better place . Pay it forward. Give back when you can . Even the smallest gesture can make someone’s day . Thanks for all you do !
That turned out great 👍 awesome to see younger people having a interest in stuff like this. I'm sure she will love the restored watch ⌚️ excellent work 👏
Marshall is a reassuring voice in turbulent times....teaching a wholesome pursuit
Nice work! And this gracious gesture will stay with these two kids their whole life. What a wonderful world!
Great work as always, so thank you very much Marshall. The 10-year-old viewer must be really exited to get such a beautiful watch and a video to go along with it. Very kind and generous of you.
This is hands down my favorite channel. I love your passion for what you do.
Amazing story along with the watch. Puts it into perspective and makes this restoration journey meaningful, interesting and fun to watch. Keep 'em coming Marshall!
Beautiful and inspiring for this young viewer! Bravo Marshall!
Marshal The absolute best watch revival channel on You Tube. I can watch and listen for hours. Your narration and explanation is spot on and you make every video as if it were the first time someone is watching. I know this must be repetitive for you but it is greatly appreciated. I introduced your channel to my son and he loves it as well. He was laughing at me because I was telling him all the names of the parts as you were assembling the pieces lol I am enjoying the education. Keep up the great content
This is a hilarious side effect of watching this channel, pretty soon you know your cannon pinion from your barrel arbor and you wonder how and why... 😂😅
The Bob Ross of watches is back everyone!
haha, so true. Some patina is just a happy little accident.
The "born-to-fly spring". Hahaha. So true! Wow, it's great that you have young viewers interested in your channel, but it makes a whole lot of sense. Lots of inquisitive minds out there. It would have been amazing to have something like UA-cam when I was at school. It's a whole world of science and creativity that is accessible to all ages.
I love this channel, and watching your process. I really appreciate seeing your thought process and not necessarily always wanting something to be perfect (outside of function) but accurate for the time period.
Recently found your channel and I am really enjoying what you do. I retired in 2008 and I had a job where I had to keep track of the time that certain tasks were performed, and note that in a journal. On the day I retired I took off my watch and put it on the handlebar of my motorcycle. I eventually sold that motorcycle and I insisted the watch go with it. I have to this day never again worn a watch. Cheers. ~ulrich
Thanks for creating this great content. I thoroughly enjoy your craftmanship and explanations. Almost makes me believe I could do this myself ;-)
What a beautiful watch and so enjoyable to watch the restoration process. Thanks, Marshall!
That is so absolutely gorgeous.
Your work was meticulous (as always) and the story was fantastic. What a gift.
I Love this video. The care that you put into restoring this watch and then returning it to it's new owner is at a level we should all aspire to. Alexa will treasure this for many years to come.
Stunning little watch, simple as it is. A very nice gift! Great work with the restoration, I think you did it just right!
Love your voice Marshal, it’s real soothing and enjoyable to listen to your descriptions. You are, as another viewer stated, The Bob Ross of watches. I’m now addicted to your vids.
Beautiful watch and such a lucky girl to have it. I love your channel because it’s one of the few watch channels that actually describes what you’re doing. I always get excited now when I see a new video is out.
Hello Mr. Marshall, I like your way of essembling and disassembling the old watches especially your comments while working on a watch. I'm enjoying it. I'm from Holland.
I love the machining and engineering that goes into watches! Thank you for sharing with us!
Your videos are a joy to watch. Your enthusiasm is contagious and your craftsmanship amazing. I can see the great amount of work and dedication you put into these videos. Thank you! Watched with great pleasure!
A great video, and so nice to see this lovely old watch restored, i am sure the young owner will appreciate its return, and treasure it foreever. Thank You 👍
Very very Cool! What a nice thing to do. I can only imagine how proud your young viewer will be to enjoy this little time capsule of history.
The attention to detail is absolutely amazing!! I know how you mentioned how much more time you can spend on this because it is a hobby, you would think the ones who get paid would care as much as you. Absolutely love your videos. Also loved see the plating.
That watch is absolutely beautiful and the band you chose absolutely sets it off. It has that antique look yet an new watch look since you redid the case. Fantastic work! To bad you can't buy new watches that have that appearance.
I am always impressed about how a watchmaker remembers how parts go together when putting it back. Marshall often works on watches that are one of a kind and he had not seen before. Yet, he is able to take them apart, fix them and put them back together.
A treasure.
Simple elegance that she can be proud to own and wear.
Even as a bigger watch, women can still wear them.
Wonderful work sir.
Wow, wonderful transformation in your excellent hands. That young lady will scarcely recognise it and no doubt will treasure her 1st watch for ever.
Great video Marshall.
Glad your sending the watch back to Alexa and her family. Another cherished family heirloom back in action.
brilliant restoration Marshal , gorgeous watch , something to be proud of , you do such incredible work my friend .
I love watching these videos. I make knives by hand and yes the sanding can be very soothing. I pop on an audio book and sand away until I'm satisfied
New sub here , I really Enjoy repairing things as a kid I got so bored at school I use to take my watch appart in class and put it all back together and it always ran fine . I made my Dad so mad when report cards came out ! This little girl is going to be so happy .. I so Enjoyed , Thanks
I absolutely love your Chanel. I can't get enough of it. You have taught me so much. It gave me the inspiration to restore my great grandfather's trench watch. it worked out better then I I could have ever emagened. i will pass it down to my son eventually. Huge thanks. Keep up the great work.
You are a true artist! Incredible work and, a joy to watch! I'm sure Alexa will always remember you! 😀😀😀
I appreciate the way you care for the community and teach and share
You have inspired me Marshall. I’m going to undertake Mark’s courses, as you did, and dip my feet in this wonderful hobby! Great video too, as always. I hope to be able to help you on Patreon soon too. Take care.
I would love this if I were her. This channel is so fun to watch with all of the different variety of watches. We have a 1914 zenith pocket watch that I got some photos of and this channel helped me figure out how to get into it. Also it teaches me on what the little dates and initials from watch maker that have gotten into it. I love this channel!
Seeing a gleaming, restored case with a gorgeous old dial like that is really a sight to behold.
Wow! Just wow. This one looks amazing!!! All your restorations are great.
Lovely job. I think the young lady will treasure it. A very nice gesture by you to return it. 👏 👍👍
There’s just something about the appreciation for quality, tolerance (as in how things fit together), patience and taking your time to do it right that I really enjoy as I get older.
Such a beautiful watch, it's a real pleasure to see the full restoration. Extremely well done Sir, keep up the good work. Greetings from Mexico.
WOW what an amazing gesture from an amazing person thank you for sharing your passion with the world Alexa now has a beautiful vintage time piece and a story and video to go with it
After watching most of your videos I'm becoming more and more enthusiastic about dials with patina, what a cool watch and a very nice gesture from you Sir, Thank you very much .
What a watch! So nice that you are returning it. Great work as always Marshall! Love your channel.
You are such a good person. Thank you for doing this for the young viewer.
What a great looking watch! Thank you for sending it in for us to watch.
Thank you for the detailed story. You broaden my horizons and allow me to gain new knowledge about different brands of watches that exist and have long disappeared.
I saw your video post yesterday and I was waiting for time to watch it. But into every life chaos creeps so it wasn't until today that I could. You are going to make a young fan very happy with the restoration that you did and returning to her a watch that was so obviously part of the original owners daily life for decades and now that bit of history belongs to her. Another excellent video. BTW the reverse thread screw reminds me of a squad of soldiers in my platoon trying to change a flat tire on an old Nash Rambler and they couldn't get the lug nuts off for some reason. They had never heard of reverse threaded lug nuts before.
I really appreciate your simple and practical explanations. Your humility shows. I love your channel.
I’m so glad that you sent this back to her! I was wondering what you were going to do.
Thanks for sharing, it’s so interesting!
Splendid work on a lovely watch. I wish I'd had more teachers with your patience and curiosity.
What you did to that case was incredible. I am so happy you have all the electroplating gear. It didn't look new, but with a dial like that, new would have been weird. I also loved that strap you put on. It paired so well with the dial. Thanks for the great content.
Great channel, love to observe (avoided saying watch 😂) your work but your narration is what makes them just that much better than all the others.
Nice job as always and thanks for bringing us along for the ride
Wow! There is no other UA-camr I can watch do the same thing and explain it all over and over again.. keep it up 👍🏼
Beautiful watch, wear it well Alexa!!
As usual, you have given us a great lesson and entertained us grandly as well. The watch reminds me of a beautiful Lanco IWC my uncle Lucio Santander gave me for my 15th birthday. He owned a jewelry store but his passion was being a watch maker and I heard from others that he was one of the best. . Thank you and please keep up with the dedication and humor that comes, seemingly, so natural from you.
That is a lovely dial! I particularly like the minute markings on the far outside. Very classy, with a touch of technical precision.
Love that dial! The re-plate really made it pop. Another job well done!
Congrats my dear Marshall, it's nice your channel influences the future generation of watch makers!
I love watching you work on these beautiful old watches. Something I would never attempt. Wish I could send you my dad's old Bulova watch. It doesn't run, has no hands anymore, but it is a special watch. He wore it for years and years.
I always used to go more for chronographs the more dials and buttons the better, but these days I prefer a watch just like this one, and a very nice one it is with a lovely story to boot. I think Alexa will be over the moon with it. Great video as always Marshall.
This … elegant process, with the description of the restoration… concerning these precise, mechanical instruments is fascinating. Oddly, it’s the art and human interaction and it’s representation of the bond between wearer and timepiece ….and in turn, as generations pass….. it’s new path and journey…that is sweet. It’s beyond me to put in words how kind and responsible and gracious this is to me. It also is really cool that these mechanisms, when cared for, last a long time and positively augment peoples lives.
A lot more wordy than I intended, but this channel is quite the bit of entertainment …. In a very unexpected fashion.
Thanks and Congratulations.
Excellent video! And an excellent viewer as well!
May she treasure this watch and be inspired by it!
Currently in the process of getting some stuff you recommended and I love watching you in the process 🙏🏽. Keep up the great work!! Thanks for all you do.
