When I saw what it looked like after the restoration, I had the feeling that I had traveled back in time! This watch is a capsule of time ... of the past.
I like videos with no talking. This one and camping videos. This is the first watch restoration video I've seen where the balance system was dissembled. Nice.
While i didn't blink for a moment i was thinking about people who made these marvels. I obviously can't comment on your craftsmanship but how patient are you!
What a fascinating peek into the world of watch restoration. What impressed me was the vivid detail of the close ups so I could see exactly what you were doing. I also liked your editing. It helped me easily understand the flow of what you were doing.
Very kind words of you Smart Hobbies, means alot, thank you. Glad you liked the editing and the flow, it's hard to have a good balance between fast and slow. See you later.
Hello Christopher, yes the watch doesnt grow on trees if you can say it like that =). Thank you for your kind words, much appreciated, see you soon again.
Well done you did a fine job and treated that old Tissot with proper respect. These old timepieces have to be serviced on their own terms so 30 seconds per day is an excellent result. Besides, there is no-one left alive who worked on them when they were new!
Hi James and welcome to the channel. Thank you very much, I'm glad you liked it. I have searched on forums, watched youtube videos etc so on that video about 1 year of doing a couple of watches. It's invaluable all information on the internet :) Have a good day!
I was expecting the movement to be A.S.1130. I also enjoyed watching without you naming the parts, as after seeing so many of your videos, I was telling myself what they are. You are teaching.
That was fascinating to watch, it gives me hope in humanity to see such knowledge and skill is still alive. I am also a craftsman, but I am a mason/bricklayer, these little engines have always fascinated me, I love watches and clocks. Sadly in my hands I wouldn't know where to start, they would remain a small pile of cogs and wheels. It's lovely to see these watches come to life, bravo!
Nice work. Not a week ago I just finished a teardown of a Tissot "Antimagnetique" myself although it has a center seconds sweep hand (27-2T) instead of the sub second your project featured. Serial Number puts it at 1948. The balance shaft needed replacing, as did the mainspring but all in all it came out gorgeous.
Hi there, ohhh that movement is very nice, that was some of Tissots more "finer" movements I guess. Glad it came out fine =). Thank you for the comment, Im very glad you liked my video.
Very nice stuff here. I learn something new every time I watch a pro do his thing! Too bad my first experience with a broken screw removal wasn’t nearly as efficient… I’ll try my staking tool this time👍
Hello Walther, nice to have you here. Broken screws can be very hard to extract, I got lucky on this one, but put some oil on it first, let say Moebius 9010, let it sink, then try a broken stake or something that fits so it can "fill" the broken part of the screw, hope it goes better next time =). Thank you for the kind comment Walther, have a good day.
Very well filmed beautiful closeups of the pallet fork. I would have liked short description of the different components as you removed or reassembled the watch as I am a novice but thanks for posting.
Hello Paul, thanks for commenting, I'll remember this and try to put in some more commenting where its empty "space". Glad you liked the filming, thank you!
Glad to see you here Yeti =), very kind words, appreciate it alot! Im a beginner so learning more each time but glad you liked it, thank you! See you later.
ah yes the classic when a part pings off from tweezer... when I saw you send the broken screw to fly I immediately had flash back of my pain, I was trying to hold the sweep pinion with my tweezer and oil it before putting it back to the movement but ping, ok stay calm dont get panic, I spend 2 hours after searching for it but nope. It went to a different dimension. Atleast I was able to order replacement part...
Haha yes this is pain. I actually needed to measure the size of this broken screw but I couldn't find it. Had to test a couple of screws in the hole to find a replacement. Someday we will have the right touch in the tweezer :D
Its really helps if you shape your tweezers correctly if you want to avoid that. Don’t know how to describe, but you might be able to google it. Otherwise ask a watchmaker. And a robot vacuum cleaner with magnetic strip underneath is perfect when you lost a screw :)

A fantastic restoration of a beautiful vintage Tissot! I've often wondered, if you wanted to, is it possible to restore the dial and hands to an excellent condition?
Hello Cris, thank you very much. I dont know if it's the same watch then. This dial has some value in its history I think. So if it's going to look like new you scrape it to bare metall and repaint it I guess. But it's possible to do in other ways also I guess. I'm not expert on this :)
oh boy, these movements have given me so much grief! I worked on like three of those, and all of them had problems: the plates/bridges are alumnium, so the steel screws get absolutely stuck in them over the years, the cap jewel plate screws were broken in the same way as yours on two out of three, and the hairsprings are so fragile that they sometimes get bent at the regulator arm by just removing the balance as usual. also, I'm honestly surprised the mainspring in yours was the modern S-shape - all of mine had the blue "kanelbullar".
I've also thought how good it would be to dip the aluminium plates in the (very) dilute hydrochloric acid to remove all the staining, but our nanny state does not allow regular people to buy "dangerous chemicals"...
Thank you for commenting, I agree, this was a bit of a mistace. I have improved this on my upcoming project that is soon finished so hope you like the light better on that one :)
