I have been collecting these for several years now. They represent an amazing value in the vintage watch category. Interesting to note that the Spezimatic and the Spezichron models are included in the company history of the current incarnation of Glashütte.

I'm so glad I found your video. I inherited my grandfather's Glasshute Spezimatic from the 60's. His name was Ludwig and he was a engineer at the Junkers plant in Dessau. It's such a beautiful watch

Very beautiful watch! Just as reference, Alex Skarsgard also wore a gold dial version of this GUB in the movie: “Mute”(2018).

I've kept an eye on these watches for the last year, and now at the threshold of 2023, there are some excellent deals to be had on these. In fact, I have found one today that looks to be the same design as the present day Glashutte Original Sixties Annual Edition
1-39-52-14-02-04. It has a black dial and is a beauty, for the price of $325 USD. It is noted that it has been serviced, which would make the deal even more desirable. I've noted it as a watch on my list to keep an eye one, since I could afford this one but the new Glashutte Original version is selling for $6700 USD.

Great video summerization of both watches, I always liked the Glashütte Original more than Omega , and now I like the Spezimatic even more.
It's the first time I hear about GUB Glashütte (apart from your IG). My knowledge of DDR watches was limited to Ruhla, which was on a completely different level. This watch is stunning - I will think about getting one.
I don't really like gold watches, except for a couple. I've thought for a while I'd like a black dial gold watch. This is right up my alley.

Great video! I own a Spezimatic myself with stainless steel case.
Great video. The thing is that those watches werent actually easily avialable for most GDR citizen without connections or D-Mark, so most of them actually wore Ruhla, which were produced in masses and actually inferior to the GUB watches. GUB also made some cool chronograph watches. Best regards.:)

I remember the first time you introduced a Spezimatic, so I thought "that could be a good watch for me." Now that I know the price I am sure it is for me. Unfortunately ne poljot24 no longer have a model like the one you presented, dated, I will have to wait.
Great video. Get them while they are still relatively cheap. When Omega started to edge their brand and prices up market, the price of vintage Omega went up with it. A similar thing is happening with Glashutte Original and Glashutte GUB. Glashutte Original is embracing it's lineage with GUB (putting out some heritage homages and keeping the cursive Glashutte style font as GUB). The rise of the Glashutte Original brand includes the rise in prices of Glashutte GUB.

Essentieller Inhalt zur Uhr und der Geschichte von Glashütte, in einem sehr angenehm, entspannten Vortragsstil. Ich finde es übrigens schön wie du auf das Geräusch des Rotors eingehst und würde mir wünschen das sowas öfter gemacht wird. Warum geht eigentlich niemand auf den Klang der Uhren ein? Vielleicht ist das zu nerdy doch ich fänd's toll. Bin gespannt auf deine anderen Videos.

I recently found an old swiss watch from a relative, I would say 1960s era, polished it and gave it a new croc strap. This thing fits and looks like a million dollars. I think without this happening, I would have missed out on so much about the watch collecting, because I was convinced that sub 38mm watches are just old fashioned and not worth the hassle.

Does nowt for me tbh, tho I like the Gold and Black, reminds me of the old JPS Norton rotary racing bikes (or the 70s F1 cars if that's your thing). For me I'm not a fan of vintage (too small, too fragile) but love a good modern retro reissue.

He should put a batterfly clasp on the strap in order to prevent demaging.
As far as I understand bebore 1967, all GUB watches were branded as GUB, and after 1967, models are branded as Glahutte. so your sample most likely is produced after 1966
I have 2 watches I bought in UK in the mid 80s that have made in GDR on the dial, they are branded as saxon and are inexpensive probably non jewelled movements,they still work ok though.
HY , I recently bought my second GUB spezimatic . In order of my research about them I found that you are maybe mistaken about the refurbishment front plates , as far as I seen on all spezimatic in black and white , furbish is on all the sides of numbers and parts placed on that plate. I think GUB correctional sprayed after the placing of the parts on the plate . Maybe you would like to look in to that .. Regards Kay

I’m not much of a fan of dress watches, but that’s certainly a good looking piece.
Tipp: Du kannst das Alter dieser GUB Uhr innen am Rand des Uhrwerks ablesen. Da ist eine drei- oder vierstellige Zahl eingraviert. Jahr+Monat. Bei meiner 661, also Januar 1966.

These pieces seem like such a good value! Does anyone know if they made any stainless watches? Everything I can find seems to be plated, either chrome plated or gold plated...
Stainless steel might apply to the watch that was made just after reunification, albeit those would have ETA movements in them

They made a very similar no date watch with with the 70.1 cal. movement. The nice thing is they are usually cheaper then the Spezimatic version.
Do you know if GUB watches ever came with a porcelain dial? I have one that appears to have a porcelain dial, but not sure. Perhaps it's enamel because there is an old glossy sheen on the surface .

Glashütter Uhren wurden sogar in den Westen exportiert. Man konnte sie im Quellekatalog unter dem Markennahmen „Meister Anker“ für ca. 40, 50 Mark bestellen.
Aber Meister Anker stand dann nicht auf dem Blatt, oder?

I dream of being able to buy a clean, real GUB Glashütte Spezimatic at an affordable price. Prices are rising, and online, there are fakes to watch out for.
U missed an opportunity to call Swatch a "Heuschrecke".
There is a polish lad on ebay selling a few of them for around 220 euro are they worth it
I think those are refurbished. Not sure how original they are

Why the seconds hand is so short? She is even shorter than the minutes hand! Because of that, the entire handset looks like it's from other watch.
