I prefer your videos to basically all of the other watch restoration channels. The way your videos are produced is phenomenal. I've watch most of your videos 2-3 times, they're great. Thank you
All my life I have been fascinated by mechanical devices , so much so that in young age I started to learn and finally had a successful business and skills in automotive and engines . Now I see these videos in older age and I say to myself what was I thinking ? I could have simply put my effort and learning instead of a huge , heavy and greasy engines which comes to life after assembly , just learned and studied watch movement and master that . Oh well I will catch it in next life around . By the way thank you for great and satisfying learning videos .
I've watched quite a few of these videos and each one is as hypnotizing as the other. As someone with a less than lengthy attention span and also plagued with OCD, you manage to keep my attention and relax me simultaneously.
Very impressive video and a really beautiful watch. In my oppinion your decission to keep the goldplating as worn as it was and only slightly polish it was right. My 1963 Dugena Super Automatic with a microrotor-movement was regularily revised but never was the goldplating renewed. So the watch has his wellworn look and lots of character. I like your work of art very much. Thank you.
Such a beauty watch. Did not have disturbing big size like today's watches. Nice video that you worked hard to prepare and take time. I would love to see the restoration of the WW2 hamilton field watch.
I really appreciate that you kept the case original, just slightly polishing it. I like to say, every scratch has a story. The 2.8 ms beat error was disappointing though. Hair spring work can be very tricky though, I wouldn’t have tried to fix that either.

A very professional restoration of the watch. Experience, patience, a steady hand and professional tools give a spectacular effect. You are a master in your trade. I watch your movies with great interest and watching them lowers my pulse. This is an added value. Regards, Master 👌👍
That is a really beautiful looking watch. There is something about that this champagne coloured type of understated face that I find so appealing. Superb work here, as usual.
beautiful job, i have never held my breath as much as when you were manipulating those tiny components. So nice to see it restored properly whilst retaining the patina of use and age
Thank you very much for posting, very inspirational, i have spent the past few years repairing quartz watches, I now work for myself once again, can't wait to get some vintage under my hands once again Dusty
I have to say, I really enjoy your channel and very impressed with your skills. I love watching you work. But also, I love the way you edit so that we see all the steps but you speed up anything we don’t need to see. Great work!!!
... this caliber gives a clear example that you don't need so many mechanical parts to be able to offer a stopwatch performance, that's what makes it captivating, other than that this vintage piece presents a clean and legible dial design, in turn beautiful and very prominent ... congratulations, as you have always shown us a great machine and a job that must be respected ...
Such an awesome watch. They may not be as pretty to some people as a Suisse is. But no one can say these are not a very robust watch. The Germans sure know how to build a great time piece. A. Lange & Sohne is a fine example. I believe they rival most Suisse brands.. But this is my opinion.
Beautiful to watch and admire...would love to have seen it on the TG after you had fixed the beat error, or even seen how you did so. Congrats & Thanks
OMG, I am so glad you posted this. I made a comment on your NY004 video about my problem with the stem stuck in my crown. I will try what you did here with the alum.
25 bucks does sound like it was a bargain back in its day, but inflation adjusted that would be $194.55 or 166€, which still isn't luxury but certainly a solid price.
I remember back in 1980 when l started work aged 18 l took home about £350 per month. I was interested in getting one of 3 watches, a Rolex submariner £360, omega speedmaster £300 or Tudor snowflake submariner £210. Those were fair sums of money back then but still achievable. Since the millennium watch prices have sky rocketed even if you were on a very decent salary it would still be a struggle to buy a premium brand such as a Rolex. Something is not right somewhere. When you look at Longines for example or Seiko they are respectable brands but have remained relatively affordable.
Err... for a chronometer-certified mechanical watch, that's still a bargain, even with inflation. Show me a chronometer-certified mechanical today for ~$200. One probable reason why they were so "cheap" is that Glashütte (the town) is in East Germany and thus belonged to the GDR/DDR back then. Quelle (a huge, W-German mail-order business) was known for buying all sorts of consumer goods for very low prices in (then) communist E-Germany and selling them in the West at a highly competitive price.
@@MichaelWilliams-mo1vv Because nobody actually needs them any more. 18€ Casio World Time is more accurate, takes more punishment and has more functions than the best Rolex ever will. Premium quartz watches with solar, radio control, more sensors and high finish usually peak somewhere around 500€.
@@MichaelWilliams-mo1vv You don't have to go back as far as that. A friend of mine bought a (then new) Subbie in the mid 1990s and it cost him 4,500 German Marks (DM). At that time I was taking home DM 3,500/month after taxes, which was a pretty decent salary but nothing too spectacular. So with one annual Christmas bonus (which was a full month's salary) and a couple of months of saving, I also could've afforded a Subbie back then. Still kicking myself for not getting one at the time ... :) Plus he didn't have to wait around for the watch or anything like that. A couple of phone-calls and visits to two or three ADs and he had his watch on the wrist.
The quality of the video is exceptional (I have not seen better), the work absolutely perfect, but in the field of watches, I prefer videos with oral commentary.
